Editorial Review

Divorce number 2 is immediately on the cards as the fifth season opens with "The One After Ross Says Rachel." As of this point, Ross's character undergoes some extreme personality changes (which apparently lost David Schwimmer many female fans). His incessant whining drives all the Friends to distraction, especially in "The One Where Ross Moves In" with Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Joey (Matt LeBlanc). Later things get uncomfortable both at work and at home when he goes through a period of rage ("The One with Ross's Sandwich"). While all this downplays his failed relationship with Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), the real idea is to allow focus on the secret pairing of Chandler and Monica (Courteney Cox) after a night of passion in London. This made for a return to the show's appealingly silly atmosphere as poor Joey is caught in the middle of everyone's secrets. Building to "The One Where Everybody Finds Out," the silliness pauses for some genuinely touching interplay between Perry and Cox. The previous year's semi-serious thread about Phoebe's (Lisa Kudrow) birth gets forgotten fast: to distract the viewer she's introduced to Gary (Michael Rapaport) in "The One with the Cop." This leads to some hilarious parodying with Phoebe interrogated about apartment hunting, and the guys excited and then scared in "The One with the Ride-Along." She's more than over him by the time of the two-part finale, "The One in Vegas," though, especially since she missed out on London. Just in case fans thought Chandler and Monica had permanently stolen the spotlight, a cliffhanger shocks expectation again with Ross and Rachel bursting out of a chapel.... --Paul Tonks ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Friends Season 5: The Ballad of Chanlder and Monica
Even though Season 5 is not my favorite season, Season 5 will always be special because it has my all time favorite episode of the series which is: TOW Everyone Finds Out. This is possibly the best episode of the series ever. Lisa Kudrow was just pure genius, she was perfection from start to finish, this is just the most laugh out loud episode of the series..

Other standouts episode are The One Hundredth (another great Lisa Kudrow episode, hilarious and moving), TOW the Kissing (Perry and Cox were great in here, not to mention that Aniston was moving here), TOW All the Thanskgiving, TOW the Cop (another great episode for Kudrow, but the real standout here is Schwimmer I swear the word PIVOT!!! will never be the same after you see this epsiode), TOW the Resolutions, and TO in Vegas

MVP here is without a doubt Lisa Kudrow. With episodes like The One Hundredth and TOW Everyone Finds Out, she gave 2 of her best performances in the series. This season is also notable for the official start of the Monica and Chandler's romance thus producing classic episodes like Tow Ross' Sandwich and TO in Vegas. This is also the debut of mental Gellar. The return of the Ross that we've come to know in the past season will only return in Season 8.

Grade: A-

5-0 out of 5 stars Consistently one of the best TV shows of the 1990s...
Along with Seinfeld and Frasier, Friends dominated the must-see TV of the 1990's. Winner of innumerable television awards, the show features the lives of six friends in their late-twenties/early-thirties living in New York City - Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), and Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry). The six friends spend the majority of their time in a coffee house named "Central Perk" or in either Monica's apartment or Joey and Chandler's apartment.

The Friends (Season 5) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere in which we learn that Ross and Emily's wedding continued despite Ross's accidentally saying Rachel's name instead of Emily's. However, Emily is not happy, and Ross cannot seem to make it up to her. Meanwhile, Monica and Chandler go to great lengths to conceal their newly blossoming romance from the rest of the friends. As the season progresses, the various friends learn one-by-one that Monica and Chandler are an item. The season finale follows the entire cast through Las Vegas (where they followed Joey who went there to shoot a movie). While in Vegas, Chandler and Monica agree to get married, but when they get to the chapel, they find that Ross and Rachel have beat them there...

Below is a list of episodes included on the Friends (Season 5) DVD:

The DVD Report

5-0 out of 5 stars Friends: The Complete Fifth Season (1998-1999)
When we watched Ross and Emily tie the knot in the final two-part episode of the fourth season, we did not expect Ross to do what he did. It looks like Ross might be seeing Divorce #2. But there's more laughs for you as the actors head into their fifth season.

Picking up precisely where the fourth season left off, Emily and Ross tie the knot anyway, in spite of Ross saying the wrong name. At the reception, Emily hides in the bathroom and refuses to come out. Ross tries desperately to get Emily out, but she continues to tell him that she refuses to even look at him, where she then leaves the reception. Monica and Chandler try to hook up again, but they can't find a place to be alone.

Phoebe is still at Monica's waiting for Monica, Chandler, and Joey to return. They come in and greet Phoebe. Joey goes across the hall to unpack as Phoebe goes home. Chandler and Monica then decide that they should become a couple, but vow to keep it as a secret from the others. Ross sits in the airport, hoping for Emily's arrival. He sees Rachel as she tries to get a ticket back home. But Ross is convinced that Emily won't show, so he invites Rachel to go with him to Athens. As Rachel boards the plane to Athens, Ross goes to get his jacket, but winds up chasing Emily, who bailed after seeing him with Rachel.

Phoebe then goes into labor and gives birth to the triplets. When Phoebe was pregnant, she was told that the triplets were two boys and a girl. Frank had named one of the boys, Frank Jr. Jr., in other words, Frank III. Alice had named the girl baby, Leslie. Being that Phoebe was doing them the favor of carrying the babies, they allowed Phoebe to name the second boy baby. She named the second boy after Chandler. Frank Jr. Jr. was born first, followed by Leslie. Chandler was born third, but Frank and Phoebe were shocked to find that little Chandler was a girl. Frank and Alice decided to let the name stand, despite the fact that the third baby is a girl.

Monica and Chandler continue their relationship. They plan to go away to Atlantic City for a weekend together. Being that it'll sound suspicious to the others, Chandler tells them that he's got a business meeting there, while Monica tells them that she has a cooking convention there. They go out to AC, but they come back early after a little argument. The next day, Joey gives Chandler a message from the hotel in AC, saying that there was an eyelash curler in his hotel room. Chandler lies and says he knows nothing about it and says that he saw Donald Trump getting on the elevator. Everyone then gathers at Monica's apartment. Monica reveals that she too saw Donald Trump. Joey begins looking suspicious. Monica then asks Rachel if she could borrow her eyelash curler, since Monica lost hers. After hearing that, Joey finally realizes that Chandler and Monica had lied about their business stories and went to AC together and realizes that they are dating. Chandler and Monica swear Joey to secrecy. Joey agrees.

Ross continues to call Emily, but cannot find her anywhere. Emily finally calls him. She promises to move to the states with Ross as long as he promises to never see Rachel again. Hurt by the decision he has to make, Ross is desperate to make this marriage work. He agrees to do what Emily wants, as well as moving out of his apartment and getting rid of all his furniture and buying new furniture and a new place with Emily. While having dinner with Monica and the gang, Emily calls. Everyone covers for Ross by saying that Rachel is not there, even though she is, but Ross knows better and says that Rachel is there, which leads into his second divorce.

Rachel, later on, finds out about Monica and Chandler, but they have no idea that Rachel knows, but she agrees to help Joey keep it a secret from the others, but she cannot tell Monica and Chandler that she knows. But soon, everyone finds out, except for Ross, who is busy trying to get Ugly Naked Guys apartment. Ross finds out, but winds up being happy, for Monica and Chandler feel love for each other.

The season ends with the gang going to Vegas for the weekend. Monica and Chandler are so in love that they decide to elope. But they are in utter shock when they find Ross and Rachel, who are more drunk than they could imagine, come out of the chapel a married couple.

Shocking, isn't it? But you'll laugh and laugh and laugh until your heart stops as this season unfolds. All the laughs are worth the money when you buy the complete fifth season. Guest stars include: Helen Baxendale, Jennifer Saunders, Michael Rapaport, Christina Pickles, Elliott Gould, & Morgan Fairchild.

Editorial Review

Cosmopolitan (or as it's affectionately known, Cosmo) has sex on the brain. Hugh Hefner is a monk compared to the Cosmo Girl in the fun fantasy world conjured by the magazine. The naughty cover headlines ("151,497 of You Begged to See THIS Guy Butt Naked") are legendary, veritable haikus of horniness reportedly perfected by David Brown, the movie-producer husband of Cosmo's most famous editor, Helen Gurley Brown. Inside, lots of articles will warn you that "names have been changed"--and you won't complain, considering that anonymity frees people to reveal what goes on behind closed doors in the lives of celebrities and average women. If you're the slightest bit curious to find out, say, what "shocking act" 41 percent of American women have tried, or which attribute Leo DiCaprio flashed in an interview, or what sort of "sexified" look might "melt his ice-cream cone," perk up your life with Cosmopolitan. --Bob Brandeis ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Late Delivery
I have to agree with an earlier review.I assumed since that by subscribing I would get the magazine earlier.Every month the magazine hits the stand days before I get it.I feel if I take the time to subscribe to this magazine I should get it before it hits the stands. Also many articles do show promise on the cover only to leave me dissapointed as to what they deliver.

2-0 out of 5 stars Make sure it's worth it
I got an amazing deal for a Cosmopolitan subscription.Little did I know that every month I would get it a few days late. That may not be a big deal for most people, but I work in a grocery store, so I know when new issues come out. You would think that with a subscription that meant you would get your copy a few days before it came out on newsstands? But as of yet, it hasn't.Currently I am waiting for the newest issue to come to my door, it's been out for 8 days now.So be careful, if you don't mind getting your issue days late every month, then it's well worth it.

3-0 out of 5 stars too much sex!!!
It seems like there is only topic in the magazine now. I'd rather see something interesting than sex positions and sex talks, how to get a man... blah blah blah.. it's nothing new to read anymore. Well, but the fashion part is still okay. Some beauty tips are really worked. However, i'm still a fan with more expectation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the VERY BEST of Sheryl
I got this for my birthday, and I love every single song. This is a great complication for every fan, and every person who just likes the songs "All I Wanna Do" and "Soak Up The Sun". My favorite songs? "Steve McQueen" and "Picture". There are great dance songs and some of the songs are decent for karaoke.

4-0 out of 5 stars YES A GOOD ONE
I have SC greatest together with live in Central Park and the DVD with the videos.

My edition does not have "Steve Mcqueen" which one of my favourites.

In general and after Amazon sent me all Sheryl's cds - Live at Buddokan is on its way - i can say that this greatest hits is a good one but if you can buy all of them it is FAR MORE BETTER.

Be cause Sheryl is not an artist for having just a greatest hits cd and that's all!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Only some of the very best...
It goes without saying that any 'Best Of' collection reflects the indiviual preferences of the compiler(s). By commonly accepted standards, such a compilation is supposed to include (at least some of) the greatest hits along with some otherwise widely popular tracks. In addition, album tracks of lesser popularity are picked according to the aforementioned individual preferences. As far as my individual preferences are concerned, any Sheryl Crow collection that omits 'Sad Sad World' can by no means be entitled 'Best Of', let alone 'Very Best'... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Magazine, but missing something...
The InStyle Magazine is a very good magazine whether you are into style or are hopelessly trying to understand the definition of the word.I will give InStyle this:they do not just cater to the Oscar-rich type stylish people. They also cater to the not-so-rich stylish people, and even if you are not as rich as the not-so-rich folks, you can take the basic principles in the magazine and go garage-saleing in style. You really can. Why?Because they usually look at every celebrity they're featuring and break down their method of style, from hair to makeup to clothing. The reason I say it is missing something is because they don't really give you the meat and potatoes. They don't really tell you HOW to apply the makeup or HOW to do the hair. They just give you basic guidelines, like what hairstyle and makeup looks good with what face type and what style of clothing best flatters what body type.If you're looking for ideas, subscribe. If you're looking for the HOW, don't bother.

There is plenty of articles about traveling style, Oscar/Red Carpet style, party style... all the styles you can imagine. The issues are usually thick, although you only get 10 per year.It is a feast for the eyes, but again, for the know-how specifics, it falls short.

If you are interested in just learning the basics of style, such as what clothing article looks most flattering for your body type or how to buy your clothing to ensure quality, or how to care for your clothing, I would highly recommend their book: InStyle: the Secrets of Style. There might be better books out there, but I haven't run into any.Once they cover the basics, the go step-by-step style, for each article of clothing. It is not a bad investment at all.If you pair their book with a subscription to their magazine, you are likely to develop a sense of style if you don't have one, and you'll become much more confident in developing your own style without having to depend on what others think is stylish.

Last thing:I like to collect clothing catalogs like Spiegel or Victoria's Secret or Eddie Bauer or companies that I am more likely to buy my clothing from in addition to reading InStyle. That way, I can come up with my own style using the articles of clothing that are actually available from my clothing retailer without having to go way out of my league to get a specific look or dress.

5-0 out of 5 stars Instyle Is InCredible
If your looking for the ins and outs of celebrity fashion and lifestyle, this magazine has it all. It has great photographs of your favorite stars (and what they're wearing), interesting articles, and fantastic fashion and beauty tips. I look forward to reading this magazine every month!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Subscription
I subscribe to a ton of magazines, and this is definitely my favorite. If you are looking for in-depth articles on different issues, subscribe to Vanity Fair (another great magazine). But, if you are looking for lots of celebrities, lots of fashion and beauty, and great tips, this is for you. What I like most is that it doesn't have all of those stupid articles on how to have sex, or how to trap and keep a man (i.e. Cosmopolitan). I think we all got past that content in high school? INSTYLE is a great buy!

Editorial Review

Vogue lives by the maxim that you can't be too rich or toothin--or have too many ad pages. But the glossy spreads of broomstick-thin supermodels draped in Prada and Chanel, and the endless pages of ads for the finest clothes, accessories, and makeup the beauty industry has to offer, help make it the leading magazine of women's style. Fashion is the main event, but every issue attends society parties, goes inside the home of a celebrity designer, and travels to an exotic resort or vacation spot. Like Playboy, Vogue is a magazine you can claim to read because the articles are good. Famously, the September fall fashion issue can easily top 700 pages. --Katherine Koberg ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars #1 for fashion
Not for the interviews. Vogue is about fashion. I read it to stay up with what's what.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Highly Sought After Collectible
If it is in Vogue, it IS in fashion! This magazine, which has existed since 1892, is one of the premier magazines for women. It is an American magazine, but also has Australian, Brazilian, British, French, German, Italian, and Spanish Editions. It covers fashion, beauty, health, fitness, celebrities, movies, art, and other topics of interest to women. Vogue is mainly directed at the Jet-Set, but anyone will find its pages both entertaining, and informative. I have a subscription to it, and I collect it on the basis of its collectibility. Mine arrive in clear plastic bags, which are never opened (unless of course one of my favorite celebritie's is on the cover). I wish all magazine publishers used the clear bag method of shipping, because an subscription label directly on the cover of a magazine is frowned upon by most collectors. So unless you buy it right off the shelf, or it is bagged, most collectors will not be interested in it. Getting back to Vogue, if you want to keep up with what is IN in fashion, this is the magazine to have. You know those $1,000 dresses you've heard about? You'll find many of them modeled in here! Fashions photographed by some of the world's most renowned photographers, are featured in the magazine. If you're someone who enjoys reading about the Elite in women's topics, you'll want to subscribe to VOGUE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read it for the interviews
The clothes are fun to look at too - even though most of us can't even dream about buying stuff by Prada or Carolina Herrera. Maybe that's WHY Vogue is so much fun. This mag evades the snob category by covering very serious subjects in its articles and interviews, and they do slip in affordable fashions for the average woman.Fun, so it rates a five for me ... Editorial Review

Call him the retro Sinatra, the keeper of the big band flame, the swingin' piano man, but Harry Connick Jr., remains one of New Orleans' treasures. His second Christmas CD is as much a salute to his hometown musical roots as it is to the season.Filled with second-line arrangements and fierce horn charts that could blow all that holiday chill back to Canada, Connick's latest revisits upbeat standards such as "Frosty The Snowman," "Blue Christmas," "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," and others. Most swing and romp, but the hymns are given the reverential vocal treatment that Connick is known for on his more secular love ballads. Surprises include a quirky arrangement of "Silver Bells," in what sounds all the world like a Henry Mancini score for an action film. And there's four Connick originals that don't quite match the level of the covers, except for what must be the oddest pairing of talents all season, the duet with country singer George Jones on "Nothin' New For the New Year," an inspired tune and performance from two master stylists. There's nothing quite as lasting as the chestnut he penned on his first Christmas CD, "I Pray on Christmas," but for fans, here's a merry Harry N'awlins holiday love fest. --Martin Keller ... 1-0 out of 5 stars horrible band
First heard this on Oprah and the band used on the show is not the same as the one on the album. Wish it had been. I haven't heard such crash and ugly lead trumpet playing in a long time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work on computer players!!
We use our computer to play all music, and this CD comes with its own software - so you can't direct your computer to play it through Windows Media Player or any of the common audio players like Winamp. In fact, after about 20 minutes of my computer trying to open the CD, freezing, and having to be re-started I gave up and sent this CD to the car-music box - only to be played on a dedicated CD player.Although I can understand why companies bundle software into their cd's for computer playing, its tremendously inconvenient for the listener who just wants to hear some music. So what did I think of the music?Don't know, I was so irritated I haven't listened to it yet!

1-0 out of 5 stars LISTEN TO AMAZON SAMPLE TRACKS
Others have liked this one. I have not. The Amazon sample tracks may be your best indicator, as to whether you'll enjoy this CD. I found the arrangements ill-conceived, like having someone read from the Bible while playing Monk or Charlie Parker loudly in the background. The subdued jive gospel organ on Silent Night coupled with Connick's uninvolved singing can twist the stomach of large dogs and cause a spike in the holiday suicide rate. Connick shows no mercy on the track running it 4:52. I am not trying to be spiteful on this. It is just an album for very narrow tastes or super Harry fans (which I have been on some of his previous efforts). ... Read more

Round, pure white, and cleanly devoid of decoration, this four-quart slow cooker appeals to those who like unfussy kitchen appliances. Wraparound heat ensures that meats and stews left all day to cook won’t overheat in some spots and undercook in others. The four-setting dial rotates from the off position to a keep-warm function for serving, and low and high temperatures for cooking. With this versatility, chocolate fondue and cheese dips can be cooked and then kept at just the right temperature for nibbling right out of the pot. The cooker’s ceramic crock, with interior dimensions of 6 by 7-1/4 inches, features flared handles which allow easy removal for table-top serving or refrigerator storage. The glass lid sheds light on the cooking process, and is domed to drip moisture back into the crock. Both the crock and lid are dishwasher-safe. From the bottom of its four feet to the top of the lid knob, the slow cooker measures 11 inches; its diameter measures 10 inches, excluding the two plastic sure-grip handles. Recipes for Hawaiian Chicken, Texas Chili Soup, Sweet and Pungent Meat Balls, and more are included in the user guide. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars hot cooker
I love cooking meat in a crockpot because it breaks apart, but no matter what temp I try cooking at with this thing, even keep warm, it comes out like shoe leather. It cooks so hot the lid bounces up and down and the liquid boils.I don't recommend this.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great value!
I paid $5.99 and think it was a fabulous buy!It is a little smaller than most slow cookers - but the perfect size for our family. Also, because the heating elements are on the sides instead of the bottom, it does get hot.But since there's really no need to touch the sides while it's on, that's no big deal.I do wish it had a power indicator. That said, I LOVE that it doesn't take up too much room on the counter and is completely devoid of hokey decoration. We had Coq au Vin last night, and today we're cooking lamb with olive oil, lemon, garlic, rosemary and potatoes. The house smells like heaven!I'm hoping to buy several more at this price for gifts!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best stew

5-0 out of 5 stars More than just a magazine
Woman's Day has the feel of a community with its intensely personal warmth. From parenting advice, health, cooking, crafts and homemaking and more, it bonds its target audience together whether you're a single mom, happily married, or even single. I enjoyed this magazine as a teen with my mom and love it even more as an adult. Highly recommend!

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful Articles
Woman's Day is a good resource for women. It covers a variety of topics, including health/beauty, diet/exercise, relationships, children. There are tips for getting organized, recipes, crafts and decorating tips also. There's a Tip A Day Calendar as well as a Day to Day meal planner. It relies heavily on reader's tips which are scattered through the magazine and in the various articles. Each issue tells you how to join the Woman's Day Readers panel to submit tips and maybe win a prize. And even if you don't want to join the Reader's panel, there are plenty of other prizes given away by Woman's Day.

Woman's Day is well worth subscribing to!

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring, Really Boring
....The articles and spreads are not at all remarkable; there's nothing here that will blow your mind. The projects are fun but they don't look good at all.The recipes are ok but nothing you couldn't find in any cookbook.I understand that for a very low price you get 17 issues but if you actually hold an individual issue, it's incredibly thin.I noticed that even the binding is bigger than the amount of paper!.... Woman's Day is the school marm of the bunch. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Is Sarah McLachlan a secret punk rocker? To be sure, her rebellion is hushed. On Afterglow, her first studio album since 1997's Surfacing, McLachlan’s music is as tempered as ever; at times even the piano chords at the heart of the sound are tucked neatly beneath layer upon layer of strings and overdubbed voices. Listen to what’s being sung within this soothing aural bed, though, and hear the just-before-sleep murmurings of the quietest riot grrl: "I’m a train wreck waiting to happen.... a wildfire born of frustration," "How stupid could I be.... you’re no good for me, but you’re the only one I see," "I have to push just to see how far you’ll go." The latter song ("Push") resolves itself with the assurance, "You complete me." Ultimately, McLachlan fans will be comforted again by what turns out to be her reliably untroubled aesthetic. --Rickey Wright ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Afterglow
I loved this album. When I listened to it for the first time, I was very impressed by her music. She puts a lot of a emotion into her lyrics and music. I like World on Fire. That song is excellent. There is not much more I can say about this album. I can sum it up in just one more word. Amazing!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Rocks
A 6 year wait, alright for me. Because this album rocks. It has a perfect balance for everything, excellent track order, the flow is brilliant. I love this album.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not worth the six year wait
Sarah McLachlan's latest offering, 2003's 'Afterglow', features more of the same blandness featured on her 1997 blockbuster album 'Surfacing'.Only this time it isn't nearly as good, but it's still good enough for me to recommend it.Teaming up yet again with her longtime producer Pierre Marchand, McLachlan offers fans what could be described as 'Surfacing Lite'.While 'Surfacing' did suffer from a few bad songs, McLachlan's lyrics were at least more heartfelt than anything that's on this record. You know Sarah is running out of ideas when she comes up with trite lyrics like "there are times I can't decide when I can't tell up from down" and "'cause I'm a train wreck waiting to happen/waiting for someone to come pick me up off the tracks."Despite a few corny lyrics and some boring arrangements, 'Afterglow' is a good album even if it offers nothing new from Sarah.I just hope that in another six years (or even longer) she'll release an album that's truly worth waiting for. ...
