Editorial Review

Functional as well as beautiful, the 13 pieces in this cookware set will bring joy to any serious cook. The set includes a 1-quart covered saucepan, a 1-1/2-quart covered saucepan, a 2-quart covered saucepan, and a big, 8-quart covered stockpot (6-1/2 inches high, 9-3/4 inches in diameter). Also included are 8-inch and 10-inch nonstick skillets. (The stockpot lid fits the larger skillet.) Finally, there are three mixing bowls--1-quart, 2-quart, and 3-quart--with snap-on plastic lids.

Except for the plastic lids, all pieces are made of heavy 18/10 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. The saucepans and stockpot have aluminum cores in their bases to spread heat quickly and evenly. The cores are completely clad in stainless steel for corrosion resistance and easy cleanup. Thick rolled rims add durability and make it possible to pour without dripping. Because the handles are safe to 350 degrees F (they stay cool on the stovetop), the pans, pot, and skillets can be used in the oven. The entire set comes with a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

3-0 out of 5 stars Avoid "Non-Stick" cookware.
Unless you find a bargain like this; then buy them and invest some of the savings into a breath-mask and a wire-wheel brush for your drill to remove it.

Otherwise, the coating will scratch, or burn. That means that at some point during the liftime of the product, you will be eating or breathing a flurocarbon compound that is more than just mildly toxic.

However, at this price, you could simply give away the skillets and keep the rest. You could easily pay $68 dollars for the stock pot alone.

Replace them with cast iron (search Kictchen and Housewares for cast iron skillets) and you will find many bargains on cast-iron cookware. (Check my other reviews for personal picks.)

Editorial Review

Ideal for breakfasts, this electric griddle is the perfect solution for the family cook who is tired of spending brunch in the kitchen while everyone else eats: The griddle can be used right at the table (although we recommend putting a wood cutting board underneath it to protect your tabletop). At 21 by 10-1/2 inches, it's large enough to feed the whole family. The edges stay cool, and the Dupont Teflon nonstick surface is easy to keep clean--especially since the griddle is completely immersible. Also great for summer meals outdoors, the black griddle includes extensive instructions, recipes, and a one-year limited warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NOT JUST FOR BREAKFAST
Seems like most of the reviews for this item all talk about it's use in doing breakfast. And it's true...you can do loads of pancakes, a full package of bacon along with sausages or eggs, and so much more.you could do your entiire breakfast on it if you choose. But it's not just for breakfast.I've used it as an indoor grill to grill boneless chicken. You can also do a ton of burgers on it as well with room to toss on a few dogs or brats.Don't limit yourself to just breakfast.

Comes with a drip catcher which is fed by drip gutters that go all along the sides and front of the griddle.Clean-up is really a snap with the very good non-stick surface of this one. Most of the time it can be just rinsed clean. It's big and takes up space so make sure you have enough counter space for it.If I would say there is one minor complaint it is that it seems to cook faster on the edges more than the center of the griddle so just move the food around a bit. It's not way off...just slightly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cooks fine, but poorly made
I used the griddle for two weeks, cooking pancakes, eggs, burgers, etc., and it worked great, as long as the temp control was turned way up, almost to the max. But this morning, while I was washing the griddle in the sink, one of the legs snapped off without any noticeable cause: I grabbed it to move the griddle for rinsing, and it broke off in my hand. Since the legs are part of the griddle's molded-plastic frame, repair means bringing out the glue and hoping the plastic is a formula that accepts adhesion.

I haven't contacted the company re: warranty yet, but will do so tomorrow, when the work week begins. I'll update this review if I find any joy there.

At its price, I didn't expect the Rival griddle to be a top-quality item, but I did think it would last longer than two weeks. On the other hand, also given its price, I'm not going to get as bent out of shape over its failure as I would if it cost $100 -- one advantage of buying cheap.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I registered for this electic griddle for our 2003 wedding. I love it. It's just me and my husband right now, so you'd think it would be too big...but it's not. I can make hashbrowns, sausage and eggs all at the same time (or 8 pieces of french toast). We're in our first home, so it is tough to find a storage place for it, but we keep it in our storage room and I bring it up at least once a week. It cleans up very easily, too. ... Read more

Editorial Review

If you've ever had a slow-cooked chicken, you'll no doubt remember the savory juices dribbling down your chin. Similar to a crockpot, a slow cooker uses a low-watt heating system to gradually bring your meal to excellence, and you don't have to hover over it as the food cooks. This stainless-steel version from Faberware features a tempered-glass lid and an oval-shaped pot that can accommodate larger cuts of meat--even a whole chicken--easily. Measuring 11 by 15 by 13-1/2 inches, this cooker doesn't take up much counter space and frees up burners, a must when preparing holiday dinners and buffets. Although not a requirement, you can add to the overall succulence of your slow-cooked dishes by stirring them a few times as they cook. Nothing is better than juices drizzled over the top of a chicken while it lazes in the pot. --Thom Arno ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Exteriorexposed lip reaches 250 degrees on auto setting
I returned this the day it arrived. I heated the obligatory 4 cups of water as per instructions. Left the room and came back in 20 minutes. The warning light was not lit. I moved the crock to the side to see if I had not properly plugged it in since the light was out. I brushed my hand against the exterior lip and received a first degree burn. Farberwear company customer service said "the light is a little dim" but you should be able to see it. Yes, you can see it if you look up from below the crockpot you will see a faint glow. The crock pot sits very loosely in its container leaving a large gap between the food container and the heater housing.Heat escapes through these gaps which accounts for the overheated exterior. I would advise those with kids, especially, to find another slow cooker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product!!!!!
I received slow cooker for Christmas. It cooks very quickly. It blew my old crock pot away. The food was done in half the time of the crock pot. It's very attractive too.I love it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Adequate Cooking Ability
I bought this slow cooker about two years ago. After reading the reviews, I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thinks this machine gets too hot!I guess other slow cooker don't get that hot?I'm not sure since this is the only one I've owned.

Also, I found that even though I follow the recommended cooking time with all the recipes I've tried, most of the meats finish quick.I've talked to my mom about it, and I honestly think that the low 200-degree setting is higher than 200 degrees.I've never cooked anything on high, but I really think the low setting is messed up.

Over all, I've never had disastrous results with this machine. However, since there are other cookers on the market, I won't buy this Farberware one again. ... Read more

Editorial Review

When the aroma of freshly brewed coffee--from freshly ground beans--wafts into your bedroom in the morning, you won't need your alarm clock. Preset this coffeemaker for your desired wake-up time, add coffee beans to the grinder, and in the morning the beans are ground to a medium grind and hot coffee awaits in the 10-cup stainless steel, double-wall insulated thermal carafe. You can also program the machine to start brewing at the end of a dinner party to avoid having to get up from the table, or to have hot coffee waiting after a brisk winter walk. When making fewer than five cups of coffee, use the 1-to-4-cups setting to improve extraction and heat; coffeemakers without this setting often lack the time to heat up properly, and coffee comes out cooler. A disposable charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors from tap water, improving coffee flavor, and should be changed every few months. Other features include a gold-tone commercial-style filter (or use No. 4 basket-style paper filters); capacity to use preground coffee instead of beans; 30-second Brew Pause, which allows a cup be poured before brewing is complete; and an audible tone to indicate the pot is ready. The grinder removes for easy cleaning, and all removable parts can be washed safely in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The Cuisinart Grind and Brew measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches, and comes with a three-year warranty. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Overly Complex Design
Coffee makers with a built-in grinder are a good idea.I bought this one to replace a Toshiba model that served us well for many years and made great coffee. In the Toshiba the grinder was in the filter basket allowing you to control the coarsness of the grind by setting the grinding time with a little spring-loaded timer. This Cuisinart has separate grinder and filter basket so the grinder has to blow the ground coffee into the filter basket as well as grind it.Because of this, you have no control over the grind. You also have more parts to clean.Other pros and cons of this machine are well stated by other reviewers.Bottom line: It makes mediocre coffee. It's not worth the money.Buy a separate coffee grinder to use with your coffee maker if you have to.Back to the drawing board, Cuisinart.I want my Toshiba back.

1-0 out of 5 stars high maintainence
If you like a great cup of coffee, and love spending lots of time cleaning and maintaining a coffee maker, then this product is for you. I would not recommend this machine to anyone, and I am taking my time here to discourage people from buying it. It has too many parts that need to be cleaned every time you make coffee (the internal grinder gets steamed up in the brewing process and gets caked with thick coffee muck). In addition, a coffee tar build-up coats the entire inside of the machine and causes all the little mechanisms to stick. For instance, the button release for the filter gets jammed and you have to reach up underneath to pull it out manually.I also had the same experience as one of the other reviewers when during the grinding process, the filter door popped open and brewing coffee spilled everywhere. The grinder also gets stuck in the machine in the coffee sludge. To keep the machine in working order, once a month, I find myself scrubbing it with a toothbrush under running water (not recommended by manufacturer). Also the carafe spout pours at a snail's pace, so you have too unscrew the lid anyway. Like I said earlier, it makes a great cup of coffee, but this grind and brew should have been engineered and designed better, especially with its high price tag.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst coffee pot I have ever owned
Buy this one only if your hobby is cleaning up coffee grounds and spills for about 30 minutes a day. This morning, the front door popped open during the grind cycle and blew coffee grounds all over my white counter tops and floor. This is a regular occurrence. This also happened in spite of the duct tape wrapped around the machine to hold it closed.Avoid this coffee maker...run for the exits...call in the experts for an exorcism.(Need I say more?) I Have taped this Cuisinart to the top of my outside garbage can to serve as mute testimony of lousy workmanship and design. The garbage man may not even take it!!! ... Read more
