    Editorial Review

There are certain dishes that absolutely require cast-iron cookware, and others that just simply taste better when made with it. Just try throwing an aluminum pot onto the campfire and watching the blisters form or sampling a hearty spoonful of jambalaya that wasn't made in a cast-iron kettle. Fancy alloys and coatings on other types of cookware are simply trying to emulate the innate qualities of properly seasoned cast iron: heat retention, even heat distribution, and a scratchproof nonstick surface that will never warp. Since 1896, Lodge has been steadily producing the world's most extensive selection of professional cast-iron cookware, lovingly poured one piece at a time. Cared for properly, these products will last for generations. --Dominic Johnson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NO Complaints, Tiny Bit of Advice
After reading the other reviews, there's nothing I can add to better describe the quality and value of this pan.It is HUGE, works great, and is inexpensive.

My ONE bit of advice, spend the extra $4 on the pre-seasoned version. My house smelled like a foundry for days after the seasoning process was done on this pan, it is WELL WORTH $4 not to have to put up with that stink for a few days. Its not a horrible smell, but it lingers.HOWEVER, if the pre-seasoned pan is sold out, dont wait, buy this pan and season it yourself, its not that big of a deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you know what cast iron cooking is, there're no negatives
I am surprised by some of the comments here cast as negatives on this pan:
It rusts if left in the sink too long.
    It has to be seasoned.
    I couldn't season it.
    It's so heavy.
    It's not really black, it's a silvery-grey.
It comes with complicated instructions about how to season it.

Well, all of these things may be true. But you know, it is _cast iron_. You really have to want to use cast iron to use this pan at all, and you use cast iron because of the advantages it has--all of which are mistakenly cast as negatives by a few reviewers.

Of course it rusts if "left in the sink too long." It's unfinished iron (before you season it), and iron rusts. You do not leave unseasoned cast iron cookware in the sink at all, ever, for any reason (or in any other constantly wet place). Toss any of your unfinished iron stuff into the sink. It'll rust. Your kid will wrinkle up if left in the bathtub for a couple hours--is this a deficiency in your kid? No, it's the nature of the thing. You're not supposed to leave the kid in there that long! Your nonstick Calphalon will become very sticky, losing its finish, if you keep washing it in the dishwasher. Is that a deficiency in the product? Well, no--as Calphalon says, DON'T DO THAT. "Doc, it hurts when I do this." "Don't do that."

Of course it has to be seasoned. It's... cast iron. And the instructions are a lot more involved than "fry up your bacon and wash any which way." But do you want cast iron or not? If yes, accept that it has to go through some seasoning. And only the first couple treatments are artificially administered as treatments per se--the majority of seasoning comes very easily through normal use and normal washing (for cast iron). So anyone can season it.

(Remember to coat the WHOLE PAN in shortening when doing the oven-seasonings, not just the interior. I have a feeling many complaints about rust, especially on the bottom, are from people who are seasoning only the cooking surface. [And then soaking it in a sink, which you NEVER do.] You need to season the whole pan, inside, outside, handle, everything.)

It's not black? Well, yes--when it's not seasoned. Seasoning improves with use of the pan over time (and proper care), and that black color develops. It starts out grey; after the first oven-seasoning with shortening it may be a brownish color; after a few months of use a dark brown; eventually nearly black--and that is beautiful.

So how do you care for and clean it? Well, until it is fairly well seasoned, you NEVER let it sit in water for any amount of time. ANY TIME AT ALL. You don't soak it. You don't dishwasher it. You don't suds it up. You don't set it in the sink.

You let it cool, and then you clean it with very hot water and a brush--a plastic brush should do--to scrub the food off. (Not a hard abrasive plastic or steel pad or brush. Just a good stiff plastic bristle brush.) If you need any extra abrasive power at all (rarely will you), use salt as a scrub. Then you towel-dry it well, and then put it on a burner at medium for four or five minutes (I always set a timer). Occasionally, you may want to give it a fine coat of oil or shortening; I put a little on, let it sit, and then wipe it clean.

Over time, the iron will become pretty well sealed and the pan nearly black (the cooking surface will be black). And it will be nonstick.

This is cast iron. It's great stuff. And yes, there is some user-participation involved. But for the benefits of cooking with cast iron, they're worth the trouble to many who cook.

5-0 out of 5 stars The pan to end all pans
I have one of these and it's my favorite piece of cookware. It's durable enough that it will last you a lifetime, so it's about the best value you can find in a piece of cooking gear. I use mine just about every meal I cook. There is a 'grill pan' version of this that is also quite useful.

    Pros:

    - you can use it both on the stovetop and in the oven
    - after a few uses, it's basically non-stick
    - retains a lot of heat, meaning it's great for searing, stir frying, etc. other pans lose all their heat on contact with the food
    - no teflon, which is harmful to humans and pets
    - heavy, so it stays put on the stovetop

    Cons:

    - you MUST season it
    - it's heaviness means it is not good for cooking omlettes or anything you might want to flip in the pan
    - it's cast iron, so it will rust if left in the sink too long
    - not dishwasher safe ... Read more

    Editorial Review

The bestseller among All-Clad's renowned cookware collections, the Stainless line provides serious and professional cooks all the virtues that make All-Clad's worldwide reputation unsurpassed. Key to its high performance is a three-ply, bonded construction. Sandwiched between layers of stainless steel is a thick core of pure aluminum that spreads heat evenly across the bottoms of pots and pans and all the way up the sides. The interior is highly polished 18/10 stainless steel, so it's stick-resistant as well as stain- and corrosion-resistant. The exterior is gleaming, magnetic stainless steel that works on induction as well as conventional stovetops, and, with care, remains beautiful during this cookware's lifetime warranty against defects--and beyond.

This nine-piece set of Stainless cookware consists of a 10-inch fry pan, a 2-quart covered saucepan with lid, a 3-quart covered sauté pan, a 3-quart covered casserole pan, and a 6-quart covered stockpot. Polished 18/10 stainless-steel pan and lid handles are riveted for strength and grooved on the top for comfort. The pans' long handles (holed for hanging on hooks or pegs) stay cool on the stovetop but won't be harmed by an oven's highest heat. Although Stainless cookware is dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended. --Fred Brack

    What's in the Box
10-inch fry pan, 2-quart covered saucepan with lid, 3-quart covered sauté pan, 3-quart covered casserole pan, 6-quart covered stockpot

    From the Manufacturer
    All-Clad Stainless Construction
Each piece of All-Clad cookware features a unique metal bonding construction. All-Clad Stainless cookware sandwiches a thick core of three separate layers of aluminum between an easy-to-clean, highly polished 18/10 stainless-steel cooking surface and a magnetic stainless-steel exterior. The aluminum core retains heat and evenly distributes it along the bottom and up the sidewalls of the cookware. The stainless interior is stick-resistant and cleans easily. The magnetic stainless-steel exterior gives the cookware a gleaming finish. All-Clad Stainless also features the company’s signature "stay-cool" long handles, lids fashioned from gleaming 18/10 stainless steel, and highly durable stainless-steel rivets. All-Clad Stainless cookware is one of five collections from All-Clad Metalcrafters. Designed to work on conventional gas and electric ranges, as well as induction cooktops, All-Clad Stainless cookware is the best-selling collection in a full line that includes All-Clad LTD, Cop-R-Chef, Master Chef 2, and Copper Core.

    Features and Benefits
All-Clad pans with a stainless interior cooking surface are oven-safe up to 500 degrees. All-Clad pans with a non-stick cooking surface are oven-safe up to 400 degrees, but should not be used under the broiler. We recommend using a low to medium temperature when cooking with All-Clad. Higher heats are not necessary and may cause discoloration (see cleaning instructions below). Other features include:

    • Beautifully polished, magnetic stainless exterior layer.
    • Pure aluminum core that not only covers the bottom of the pan but also extends up the sides. This allows for great heat conductivity as well as an even heat distribution so you won’t have "hot spots" when cooking.
    • Stainless-steel interior layer/cooking surface.
    • Long, polished stainless, stay-cool handles.
    • Sturdy, non-corrosive stainless-steel rivets won't react with foods.
    • Polished stainless-steel lids fit evenly with the pan’s edges to seal in flavor of your foods.
    • The All-Clad Stainless collection is compatible with an induction stovetop (with the exception of a few pieces) in addition to gas and electric stovetops.
    • The Stainless collection is dishwasher-safe, excluding pieces with a nonstick cooking surface.

    Warranty
From date of purchase, All-Clad guarantees to repair or replace any item found defective in material, construction or workmanship under normal use and following care instructions. This excludes damage from misuse or abuse. Minor imperfections and slight color variations are normal.

    Cleaning Instructions
For daily cleaning, warm soapy water is sufficient. Clean your All-Clad thoroughly after each use. Food films left of the pan may cause discoloration and sticking. To get rid of stuck-on food or discoloration and stains from using too high of a heat, we recommend cleaning your All-Clad with a product called Bar Keeper’s Friend. To use the Bar Keeper’s Friend, simply use a soft cloth or sponge and water and make into a soupy paste. This can be used on the interior, as well as the exterior of your All-Clad (excluding the Cop-R-Chef). The Bar Keeper’s Friend can also be used on the exterior of the All-Clad Stainless collection, LTD collection, and MC2 collection. For cleaning of the Cop-R-Chef exterior, simply use a brass/copper cleaner. If your water has a high iron content, you may notice a rusty discoloration. Use Bar Keeper’s Friend to remove it.

    All-Clad Stainless Selection
In recent years, a professional-size 14-inch fry pan was added to the Stainless fry pan assortment, as well as several popular specialty pans, including: the small-size petite brasier with a dome-shaped lid; petite roti roasting pan; and the beautiful, large-capacity Dutch oven and French oven oval roasting pan with roasting rack. Both of these one-pot comfort food specialty pans comes with All-Clad’s popular high dome-shaped lid. Other specialty pans include a larger brasier pan with domed-shape lid; a complete family of round-shaped saucier saucepans for versatile stove-top cooking; a flare-sided Windsor pan in two sizes, designed for reduction and the creation of rich sauces; and a contemporary "Soup for Two" 3-1/2-quart soup pot; casseroles; an open stir fry; a versatile wok-style chef’s pan; and a "Pasta Pentola" 7-quart stockpot with colander insert and lid. 2-0 out of 5 stars Looks Awesome! Not sure I get the performance difference...
For years I have used the Calphalon Stainless pans (I think they are named Try-ply)... They have the aluminum core all the way up the sides.Regardless, I thought I should take the step up to "the Best."

I'm not sure I get the difference...

They look incredible!I have always loved the classic cookware shapes (I almost gagged when I saw this "toss-and-turn" pan advertised from a budget cookware maker... but I digress).I have always followed the directions of warm over medium heat, never use cooking sprays, don't submerge hot pans in cold water, etc.I also never used the diswasher to wash my pans before (a little clean up to take care of an investment is okay with me).

All the things I used to cook in my old try-ply stainless cooked great in the All Clad:the really delcate sauces are a litte different becasue the other pans I had heated up quicker, but nothing I couldn't get used to.Great visibility on changing colors and a little olive oil almost negates the need for nonstick (sans overeasy eggs).Really some great cookware, but I don't get it... maybe becasue I've never been a brand name guy.

All-in-all an Awesome looking and performing line of cookware, but I don't think it's worth it to pay twice as much for the same performance.I know a lot of people like the name, and that's what got me in, but I really didn't experience anything to show me it was worth it.Overall, it may be that I still am a die-hard Calph One user for most of my cooking and I use stainless for things I need (changing colors of sauces, etc.), so you may have to take this into consideration with your cooking style.

5-0 out of 5 stars nice pots
I've used circulon and caphalon....both ok, but the exterior rubs off after awhile, and if you mistakenly put them in the dishwasher....(one time during a dinner party, a guest put them in and ran it without telling me, i opened the dishwasher to find ruined caphalon, yes it takes one wash to ruin them, circulon interior are brittle and will break off into your food!)all-clad is the way to go, great cooking as long as you preheat.scratches happen...a sponge that picks up grit from somewhere could scratch the interior alittle, but you can't expect it to look brand new forever...it's minor and doesn't affect the cooking, and it still looks presentable.

5-0 out of 5 stars I own almost every piece All-Clad manufactures!
I started with this set more than 10 years ago after many decades of buying inexpensive cookware. Once I bought this, there was no going back. I admit, I originally tried the LTD line, but I wanted something I could use in the dishwasher. I find the stainless cooks just as evenly as the LTD and is much easier to care for. Since buying the set, I have bought almost every piece of All-Clad stainless manufactured.
I will never buy another brand. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars meh, they're ok, i guess
I mean, they're definitely holding up better than my LAST bakeware. That's not really saying too much, though. I baked lemon bars and then a cobbler a couple weeks later in the brownie pan and the nonstick coating is already wearing off. I am really disappointed, but I guess I shouldn't expect too much of nonstick bakeware. From now on I'm buying glass.
If you're a college student, or grad student, who'll share these with roommates who can't treat things how they should be treated, buy these. If you're a poor person living by yourself or with a significant other, invest in glass. It'll last much much longer. I'm quite poor, actually, and thought I'd save money buying these. It was definitely a mistake I've learned from.

    1-0 out of 5 stars Non-stick?!Hah!Should be re-named "All-stick"!
My husband bought these for me for Christmas last year because I love to bake and I'd bought some "non-stick" baking sheets from Wal-Mart that were a real disappointment, but according to the reviews of this item, these were supposed to be fabulous.

Not so, I have had them for about 11 months now, I still use them because we're trying to save up money for our first house so I don't want to spend the money to buy MORE baking pans.I end up spraying of non-stick cooking spray on these pans just so I can still use them. After the first 2 or 3 uses, these pans were fine, they didn't distribute heat evenly, so some areas would be burned and others would be under-cooked, but they WERE non-stick.After using them for a few times though, it was IMPOSSIBLE to get ANYTHING off of them!!!"Non-stick"?!!What a JOKE!!!One of the cookie baking sheets I soaked for a day, scrubbed with soap, hot water, AND the scrubby side of a Scotch brand sponge.Nothing came off.Soaked for ANOTHER day, scrubbed, nothing. After the third day, I just gave up and now there is stuff permanently STUCK to these so-called "NON-STICK" pans!

I am VERY unsatisfied with these items and if I could, I'd rate the set at ZERO STARS!THE WORST!Do yourself a favor, invest a little more money in a baking set and avoid the frustration, because you get what you pay for, and these pans are crap!

2-0 out of 5 stars small

To roast is to surround food with dry heat. Covering a turkey or joint of meat steams or braises rather than roasts, and placing it into a pan without a rack causes the lower part to boil in juices--that's why a rack is essential for proper roasting. This 12-by-9-inch rack ensures a holiday turkey, duck, chicken, or rib roast will emerge from the oven evenly browned and fill the kitchen with an irresistible aroma. It's nonstick, so poultry skin shouldn't tear when the bird is lifted to a carving platter. 5-0 out of 5 stars easy clean up, and YES - non-stick!
Elevating your roast while cooking it is essential for even-cooking and keeping it out of the fat-ladened drippings. This rack accomplishes that nicely when used in a small size roasting pan (we have the "Calphalon Professional 14" Small Commercial Roaster").

Typical of the Calphalon quality that most people expect from their products, this rack will not disappoint. When they say "non-stick", they mean it!We use this rack over and over and it is still as easy to clean as the day we first used it.Excellent price for an excellent product! If you have a small roaster (or like to use the store-bought disposeables), then this is the perfect addition to your kitchen.

As a brief after-thought, this would make a good little "bonus", along with a set of lifters and maybe a flavor injector, if you are giving someone a roaster as a gift.:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential
If you don't want to spring for a roasting pan, no problem - the disposables do just as well. There is no question, however, that your bird needs a lift out of its own juices. There is no better way than with this rack.Large, sturdy and truly non stick, this rack will ensure even cooking by exposing all sides equally.

4-0 out of 5 stars OK product, but not what is shown
The actual cooling rack is very different from the picture shown. As others have noted, it doesn't have rubber feet. Of course, when you get down to it a cooling rack is a cooling rack, and this one certainly looks built to last.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Cooling Rack!
I like this cooling rack because it's very sturdy.I also like the grid design instead of just the single wires across, because, as other reviewers have noted, cookies and other things won't fall through.I've been looking for a good grid rack for a while, and I've seen similar ones for at least twice the price. As for those people who commented that they didn't get the protective feet, I just called Nordic Ware (you can check out their website) and a very nice woman said she would mail me some replacements.I am sure I will get a great deal of use out of this cooling rack, especially when I make my candies at Christmas.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fine, altho small and no protective feet

Ideal for family cooking and entertaining, this beautiful 12-inch electric skillet is made of 18/10 stainless steel, so it retains its mirror-finish luster even after repeated trips through the dishwasher, where it's safe after the temperature control is removed. The control adjusts to temperatures ranging from 200 degrees F (for serving, say, pasta in four-cheese sauce at the table) to 400 degrees F (for browning and pan-roasting veal chops, for example). The skillet's lid is tempered glass, allowing easy monitoring of cooking progress. Two big handles facilitate carrying from the kitchen to the table, which makes the skillet a handsome serving piece. Sturdy feet lift it so counter and table surfaces are protected. The skillet has a two-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

Hey Amazon, what are you doing?Yesterday there were 2 reviews for this product and I submitted a third, which was very unfavorable. When I checked this page today, I found the notification that there were NO reviews for this product. Is this some kind of shell game that you are pulling? So much for Amazon's credibility!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I've found that this skillet heats unevenly, therefore making it necessary to frequently stir things to assure uniform cooking. Moreover, there is virtually no "simmer".If a low temperature is set, the heat goes off and eventually comes on again briefly.Cooking items that require simmering requires close monitoring and regularly reseting the heat, a real irritant.

Needed to replace 6 month old, unattractive Black and Decker teflon skillet.Read Amazon reviews on 16" version of this skillet.Decided to get the 12" one.Skillet and probe arrived in perfect condition. 16" skillet would have been HUGE. It's a beautiful appliance, but I wish it were deeper for larger capacity and to help contain splattering. So far I've fried chicken and the next morning I did pancakes.Took time to season the skillet and carefully followed instructions for first time use.Found it easy to clean, cooks evenly, and if it were DEEPER, I'd rate it 5 stars.Rival, please make one. ... Editorial Review

The Cuisinart Mini-Prep food processor stands 8 inches tall and just over 4 inches wide. Don't let the size fool you. The black base houses a motor so powerful that you need to stabilize it with one hand when using the high setting. You can whip up a strawberry-banana smoothie for one in less than a minute. The clear plastic prep bowl locks into place with a simple twist. The blades can be set sharp side up for chopping onions or grating Parmesan cheese, or turned blunt side up for making walnut pesto or whipping up chocolate frosting. The set includes a spatula and a cleaning brush to remove coffee grounds.

For best results, cut ingredients into small, even pieces--about 1/2-inch square or so works well. In general, use the sharp-edge approach for low speed and the blunt side of the blades for high speed. If you need to run the motor for longer than one minute, pause and begin again. The bowl, cover, and blade assembly can all be run through the dishwasher. Watch your fingers when dissembling the machine, as the blades are extremely sharp. --Irene Svete ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars 3rd time is not a charm
I have owned 3 of these little processors, problem is the motor keeps going out. After 3 dead motors, I've decided to move on to Kitchenaid. Sorry Cuisinart.

    1-0 out of 5 stars a lemon?
I make yoghurt smoothies everyday and bought this mini cuisinart processor to use as a spare when my old mini Krups is dirty. The cuisinart mini is a TERRIBLE machine. It has too many safety features, making it more difficult to position the bowl correctly than the Krups. Spills happen. Also, it is incredibly noisy. This is a significant problem in itself, because you have to run it for what seems like forever to get it do its job, because the cuisinart cannot even puree a banana. After a few minutes of processing, big chunks of banana still remain. I don't have this problem with the Krups. Maybe mine is a lemon, but based on my experience, anything is better than this. By the way, now when I want quicker results with the banana I mash it with a fork first.

4-0 out of 5 stars great for pesto!
A few years ago a friend gave me a hand-me-down full-size food processor, but I had never used one before and was intimidated by the size and all the different blades, and never used it.This summer, with my basil and parsley growing in unprecedented quantities, I discovered my blender was not adequate for making pesto so I purchased the Cuisinart Mini-Prep.It's easy to use and not intimidating at all.I will second what one of the other reviewers said, though: it was not obvious that the lid had to be locked in a certain position as well as the base, and the first time I hit the Grind button and nothing happened, I thought I had bought a dud. With a little fiddling around, I finally figured it out, and the pesto that came out was of uniform consistency (unlike my chunky blender version) and delicious. ... Equipped with an exceptionally powerful 280-watt motor, this versatile appliance is a combination hand mixer and hand blender. For mixing, beating, and whipping, there are two cunningly designed beaters that produce volume while reducing splashing. For kneading, there's a strong dough hook, and for blending, there's an attachment that can be used in the accompanying 2-cup container (or any container) for small jobs like salad dressings. For chopping, the power unit attaches to another container with its own blades to make quick work of nuts, onions, hard cheeses, herbs, garlic, and meats. (The container's base serves as a snap-on plastic lid for storage.) The mixer/blender has three speeds and a power-pulse button for working through tough jobs. It stands upright on a nonskid base, and its power cord pivots to stay out of the way or can be locked in place. This appliance carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great all around mixer
I purchased this mixer before Christmas and from the first time I used it I was impressed with its power and versatility.I save so much time now that I can easily switch between mixing batter and chopping nuts or chocolate.I can attest to its durability as well as I dropped the mixer on the floor the second time I used it and there was no change in its performance. While I was considering a KitchenAid stand mixer before purchasing this, I see no need to do so anymore. This mixer works great for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
I needed a little hand mixer for whipping cream and egg whites and occasionally mixing cake batters or creaming butter to make cookies and this works perfectly for all those jobs. It's small, fits neatly back into it's box and it is not unnecessarily complicated. It has an attachment that blends shakes and a mini food processor that I used to chop vegetables. Great value, no problems.

You don't need a 6- gallon oil vat to enjoy deep- fried foods at home--this petite deep fryer makes four big servings with just 4 cups of oil. A compact 7 inches in diameter, the fryer features easy controls for precision frying: it automatically maintains the proper frying temperature, letting you focus on cooking instead of fussing with the controls. The fryer features a snap-on lid, so you can store oil right in the fryer for reuse. All surfaces are nonstick for tidy cleanup (the fryer is not dishwasher-safe and should never be completely immersed in water). A hand scoop is included with the fryer for easy stirring, lifting, and draining, and the 120-volt AC cord unplugs from the outlet, while the attached handle makes the fryer easy to move around the kitchen. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Fryer at a Great Price
This very easy to use fryer cooks food perfectly. The only reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 are the very hot exterior when it is being used and the scooper it comes with.Get yourself a pair of tongs and you are good to go, JUST BE CAREFUL AND KEEP IT WELL OUT OF REACH OF ANY CHILDREN AROUND THE HOUSE!!!!We use it at least once a week to make various types of shrimp as well as fish and even eggrolls. It cleans up very easily. We never save the oil because it tends to get gunky fast because there is not much oil in there.I would purchase this fryer again.

1-0 out of 5 stars absolutely horrible
Worst product I ever bought, also the most dangerous.I have three small children and this is not something you want sitting on your countertop without a lid.Brought it home and used it to deep fry mozzarella sticks and my whole house smelled like a greasy restaurant kitchen for 2 days. The body gets VERY hot, due to no insulation, takes forever to cool down, and it comes with a puny little slotted spoon to get your food out, where the food falls off as you're lifting it and plops back into the fryer and splashes oil all over. The worst $15.00 (Walmart) I ever spent.Brought it back the next day

5-0 out of 5 stars The best fryer I've ever used
I love my Fry Daddy. My husband and I received it as a gift for our wedding 7 years ago and it is still as good as the day we got it.I love the easy storage and the frying quality. We actually have the grandpappy fryer which allows for a bit more room but we have fried everything from chicken cutlets, to wings, to fried zucchini and everything comes out perfect. The only caution we have is that the outside does get a bit hot and can stay pretty warm for some time so be careful even after you pull the plug. ... The paddle-shaped boardhas a flat side for prep work or slicing and serving bread and a sidewith a channel to catch juices when carving meat or poultry. Theboards contain Microban, an antimicrobial agent that inhibits thegrowth of bacteria that can cause odors and stains in the boardsthemselves. I love these cutting boards -- clean up a breeze too. Rock solid quality boards won't slid when you use them. Quick cleanup. And unlike the wood boards, these won't get "greenish" -- since they're make of plastic. I used a coupon from UnderTag.com, so it was almost free for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cook's Illustrated rates this #1
The only other reviewer gave this only two start because they said that meat getting in between the two blades rendered the knife useless for cutting meats.I am going to purchase this knife based on the following review from Cook's Illustrated and I quote word for word:"The Black & Decker EK800 Slice Right is every bit as good as its predecessor (the Ergo). It exeduted all tasks perfectly."

    2-0 out of 5 stars A disappointment
We wanted to buy the B&D "ergo" electric knife, but we could not locate one in time for Xmas, so we bought the EK800.

The first time we used it, the knife sliced a standing rib roast into beautiful thin slices. The second time we used it (on a baked ham) food stated slipping in between the two blades. This is the problem with the EK800, the slicing blade is actually two thin blades that sort of lock together. When we attempt to slice meats, thin slivers of meat get in between the two blades, making slicing impossible. We thought it might be our "technique", but we tried it on several more roasts nd no matter how we use it, food gets between the blades. It's too late to return it, so we'll keep it for slicing homemade bread, but we'll be looking for another electric knife for carving meats. ... Read more

This professional mandoline slicer for slicing and shredding potatoes and other vegetables comes with everything you need: a 4-quart stainless-steel bowl, a plastic storage lid, four interchangeable cutting blade cartridges, and a cutting slide with a safety guard. Just slide in the cartridge you need--thin slice, thick slice, julienne (1/8-inch), or french-fry cutter (1/4-inch)--press the safety guard with sharp prongs onto the end of the vegetable, and slice away. The safety guard rests on side rails over the blade so your hand can't slip, and the entire cutting slide apparatus snaps onto the top of the bowl. The stainless-steel bowl has four rubber grippers underneath so it won't slide while you're slicing. Pop the plastic storage lid on top and put leftovers in the fridge. 5-0 out of 5 stars It's simple mechanics, folks
I bought this item about 2 years ago and use it mostly for slicing potatoes and making cole slaw.It is very easy to use, and despite what you may have read from others, it is easy to remove the blades as well.I understand the problem well.If you grasp the edge of the blade without really paying attention to how it is designed, the tendency is to pull down a bit. This puts pressure on the small piece of plastic that is designed to lock the blade in place, thus causing you to fight against the "lock". If you pull the blade slightly upward and out, it slides out very easily. For that matter, straight out works, too. It may not be fancy, but for my needs, it works great!

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this item!!!
We received this mandoline as a Christmas gift, so we cannot return it without risking hurt feelings. It is cheaply made, has few cutting options, and worst of all, the blades are extremely hard to remove, resulting in a badly cut finger!

Hoffritz is apparently out of business (Salten has a license to sell some of their products, but not this one), and I can see why.

This 6-inch professional-grade cleaver is an exceptionally strong, fine tool for chopping through bones and joints in meat. Or, with an eye on versatility, turn it on its side, and crush peppercorns or cloves of garlic. J.A. Henckels has been a knife manufacturer since 1731. The name is synonymous with quality, and this cleaver holds to the company's high standards. It is forged of high-carbon no-stain steel and offers an ice-hardened, laser-controlled edge. While well balanced, it feels heavy, which is a definite benefit in a knife that must hack through tough sinew and bone. Altogether, this is an excellent kitchen tool. --Maria Dolan ... Read more

Our J. A. Henckels cleaver is perfection with balance and heft that provide the leverage to cut quickly and cleanly. It makes short, easy work of cutting up chickens and preparing soup bones.

Now that we've become more adept and I've overcome my timidity at using it I can even do an almost professional job of chopping vegetables!

The user friendly handle, ergonomic, if you will, is made of high impact polypropylene. Thus, it is not only long lasting but dishwasher safe, breakproof and the crisp black color is as intense as ever after many washings.

A cleaver is an indispensable tool for every kitchen, and we're glad we chose Henckels. It's made us believers in the quality of cutlery manufactured by this company.

5-0 out of 5 stars the only kitchen scissors you'll ever need
A pair of these scissors came with a set of Sabatier knives that I ordered, and I liked them so much that I bought a second pair separately. They are easy to use, easy to clean, and easy to store. The high quality of the construction ensures that they will last for years, and I find the design to be ergonomically suited to the hand as well as pleasing to the eye.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Durable, Low End Sabatier
As part of purchasing multiple Sabatier knife sets over the years I've come to own two pairs of these shares.

They are decent low end shears, mass produced in China.I am surprised these shears are getting such great reviews.I was AMAZED someone was using them to cut food, but I've since learned for delicate herbs such as fresh chives, this is actually recommended.Still, these are kitchen shears not poultry shears.I don't reach for these shears when food is involved.

I keep a pair in a kitchen drawer and use them for "light duty" jobs such as cutting off basil or thyme leaves.I can't imagine using these shears to open a bottle since mine have visibly bent from light duty.

Low end shears by Henkels International will last much longer AND many of their shears can be taken apart and sharpened.

These shears are made of the same medium quality steel Sabatier uses for their Chinese knife sets and this steel will rust if left wet of if food remains on the blade.

Of course, you should always hand wash and dry knives and kitchen shears but these will rust more easily than the high end German and French steel products (which cost much more of course).

You'd be better off with one of the higher end shears sold on Amazon. ...

1-0 out of 5 stars An Inhuman Egg Slicer
What separates human beings from animals is the egg slicer. The Norpro Stainless Steel Egg Slicer does not reflect human dignity in the way that a good egg slicer should.Any good egg slicer radiates truth and grace with each slice. The Norpro Egg Slicer does not.

What we need is an egg slicer that is less functional and more profound. We need a more human egg slicer.

Do not purchase this item---it reeks of animality.

2-0 out of 5 stars Functional but ugly
Don't wash this thing... the shine comes right off and it becomes dull dull dull... but hey, it cuts eggs.

4-0 out of 5 stars mushrooms no problem
I use this slicer to cut mushrooms around 2-5 times per week.I've had it for less than a year.It works great. The slices are nice and uniform, it is easy to use.I bought two on a Friday sale because I had concerns about the durability after reading the other reviews and the product was so cheap. After much heavy use slicing various types of mushrooms I feel this slicer is durable. And yes, it does sound nice when played like a little harp. ... Editorial Review

Whether peeling a Granny Smith apple or a fruit with an even tougher skin, the swivel peeler by Oxo is an essential tool in any kitchen. Its flexible, rotating stainless-steel blades make peeling simple by contouring to almost any surface shape. The built-in potato eye remover is durable and can easily carve out blemishes without digging.

The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip, flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands while still providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material as dishwasher gaskets, the handles are slip-proof--wet or dry--as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, Stylish and Durable
I couldn't tell you exactly how long I have owned my Oxo vegetable peeler, but it's a long, long, long time. The peeler looks as good and works as well as the day I bought it.

The tip of the peeler has a tapered, indented area perfect for quickly removing the eyes from potatoes and other similar little chores when preparing vegetables.

To keep the peeler working perfectly, I sharpen the facing blades with a diamond hone about twice a year.

I'm left handed. The tool is perfectly ambidexterous.

For the price, a terrific value of enduring quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good cooks know the value of a good peeler
I bought a Henkels peeler online and while waiting for it, I saw the Oxo and since I had nothing but good experiences with the brand, picked it up too, since there's always a peeler in the dishwasher when I need one anyway...
I have poor quality peelers I got as bridal shower gifts that came in sets with other gadgets and you can tell the difference between the Oxo and them. I love this peeler and it's just as sharp and even more hand friendly than the Henkels, which cost nearly twice as much.
You know it's good when a tedious chore like peeling potatoes is pleasurable. Oxo is a reliable brand. They've never let me down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly the best
I first bought this peeler several years ago and thought it was great. Then I lost it (threw it out with the peels!) and had to go back to a 'regular' one. Ouch! Now I really appreciate my Good Grips peeler.

The big handle truly is comfortable and the blade never seemed to dull, even after four years of steady use. One reviewer mentioned how hard the peeler is to clean - but a swipe of a vegetable brush gets in the nooks and crannies nicely, so I disagree.

It's so easy to peel vegetables with this thing, and you don't have to worry about taking the skin off your knuckles along with the peels. The eye-remover is a bit harder to use, but you can't slip and jab yourself with it either, which I really like.

I love this peeler. I'm not peeling potatoes again until I get my new one!
