Editorial Review

Tall enough to open a 7-inch-high can, this electric can opener is aspractical as it is stylish. It has a knife sharpener in the rear as well aspush-in cord storage, allowing for tidiness on the counter. The cutting leverremoves for easy cleanup. Clad in gleaming black plastic, the opener measures8-7/8 inches high, 4-1/4 inches wide at the base, and 3-1/2 inches deep. Whenoperating, a magnet flips down and grips the top of the can, then lifts it offwhen the can is removed. --Fred Brack ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Get Out The Sponge
Every time I open a can the magnet on the can opener grabs the can lid and lifts it off so hard that food splatters on the counter.Whenever I want to use the can opener the first thing I grab is my sponge so that I can be ready to clean off the food from my counter.

The can opener works but it is messy, it also is the noisiest can opener I've ever had and as stated in a previous review you have to really apply pressure to start the opener and you have to make sure the lever is aligned correctly, plus it doesn't work well on large cans.

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks Great ..Works Not So Great
This can opener looks great, it has a tall sleek contemporary
black body, but that's about it.Yes the attachments come off easily, in fact too easily.I found myself having to aline the attachments every time I used it.Then I had to mash down really hard for it to start working.I thought it was tall for big cans, but it doesnt seem to support the weight of big cans, plus the cord is not very long.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice and Tall
Pretty nice and works well. The attachemnts come off easily and folds down for storage. ... Read more

Factory-Reconditioned Ronco Inventions ST4000R Showtime Indoor Rotisserie and Barbecue
by Ronco Inventions
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $319.99

Editorial Review

An inexpensive introduction to the delights of rotisserie-roasted meats and poultry, this countertop device is large enough to spit-roast two chickens, a 15-pound turkey, a leg of lamb, or a rack of ribs. Place the spit through the wire food basket that accompanies the rotisserie, and it will rotate chicken wings, salmon steaks, or other foods through the roasting cycle. Meanwhile, place the enameled-steel steaming tray atop the rotisserie, cover with its plastic lid, and the rotisserie will steam vegetables or shrimp.

At this price you wouldn't expect the rotisserie to be restaurant-sturdy, but it's not flimsy, either. Measuring 17 by 15 by 13-1/2 inches, it delivers 1,250 watts of cooking power inside an enameled-steel case with a tempered-glass door. Three spit settings permit normal rotation, no-heat rotation to keep juices distributed evenly until serving, and pause-to-sear so meats can be browned. 12 elastic ties to bind foods, a pair of heavy synthetic gloves for removing items from the unit, and $100 in coupons for other Ronco products accompany the rotisserie. Because it stars in an infomercial, the rotisserie also comes with an excellent instructional video. --Fred Brack

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned small appliance. Reconditioned generally means that the appliance has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the appliance back to like-new condition. Some appliances may contain cosmetic blemishes. Includes a six-month factory warranty. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars No heat shield needed....Hope this puts issue to rest!
On 5/2 After querying Popeil via email a couple hours earlier, I received the following:

(...)

"It was previously believed that the heat shields were necessary for safe use of the Showtime Rotisseries. This has recently proven to be untrue. The only machine that truly requires a heat shield is the model 6000 Pro. As such, Ronco has discontinued the heat shields. I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to give us a call should you have any further questions or concerns."

(Amazon eliminated the customer service rep name and phone number.)

Now, I had other questions that have not received answers (like "How do I get the door off to clean since the slot opening is smaller than the door pin?"), but for purposes of thie brouhaha, the answer was clear, concise and fast!

P.S.Did I mention mine was shipped with a heat reflector shield?:0)

1-0 out of 5 stars I should have listened
I can't believe that Amazon continues to offer this product.I received the first with heat reflector missing.I had a replacement sent with the same part missing.I should have paid more attention to the reviews about missing parts.I couldn't wait for the shipment to arrive and then to be so upset. Why offer such a product!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars A BARGAIN BY RONCO A DISASTER FOR THE CUSTOMER
I PURCHASED ONE OF THESE UNITS ONLY TO FIND THAT IT WAS MISSING PARTS. I HAD A HEAT REFLECTOR FROM A MODEL I BOUGHT YEARS AGO SO THAT WASNT THE PROBLEM. WHEN I TURNED THIS UNIT ON TO COOK A CHICKEN I HEARD A BUNCH OF CRACKLING NOISES AND WHEN I LOOKED AT THE OVEN DOOR IT WAS SHATTERING INTO HUNDREDS OF PIECES. THE GLASS STARTING FALLING EVERYWHERE. NEEDLESS TO SAY ROASTED CHICKEN MIGHT OF BEEN A GREAT DINNER BUT I HAD TO SETTLE FOR A CUP OF SOUP. NOW I CANT EVEN GET RONCO TO RESPOND ABOUT THEIR SO CALLED WARRANTY. IS THIS BREAKAGE OR DEFECT????WHO KNOWS BUT STILL NOONE RESPONDS TO MY NEED TO REPLACE THIS GLASS DOOR. HELP ANYBODY?????? ... Read more

Rival GR100-SG 20.5-Inch by 10.5-Inch Electric Griddle
by Rival
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $44.99

Editorial Review

Ideal for breakfasts, this electric griddle is the perfect solution for the family cook who is tired of spending brunch in the kitchen while everyone else eats: The griddle can be used right at the table (although we recommend putting a wood cutting board underneath it to protect your tabletop). At 21 by 10-1/2 inches, it's large enough to feed the whole family. The edges stay cool, and the Dupont Teflon nonstick surface is easy to keep clean--especially since the griddle is completely immersible. Also great for summer meals outdoors, the black griddle includes extensive instructions, recipes, and a one-year limited warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NOT JUST FOR BREAKFAST
Seems like most of the reviews for this item all talk about it's use in doing breakfast. And it's true...you can do loads of pancakes, a full package of bacon along with sausages or eggs, and so much more.you could do your entiire breakfast on it if you choose. But it's not just for breakfast.I've used it as an indoor grill to grill boneless chicken. You can also do a ton of burgers on it as well with room to toss on a few dogs or brats.Don't limit yourself to just breakfast.

Comes with a drip catcher which is fed by drip gutters that go all along the sides and front of the griddle.Clean-up is really a snap with the very good non-stick surface of this one. Most of the time it can be just rinsed clean. It's big and takes up space so make sure you have enough counter space for it.If I would say there is one minor complaint it is that it seems to cook faster on the edges more than the center of the griddle so just move the food around a bit. It's not way off...just slightly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cooks fine, but poorly made
I used the griddle for two weeks, cooking pancakes, eggs, burgers, etc., and it worked great, as long as the temp control was turned way up, almost to the max. But this morning, while I was washing the griddle in the sink, one of the legs snapped off without any noticeable cause: I grabbed it to move the griddle for rinsing, and it broke off in my hand. Since the legs are part of the griddle's molded-plastic frame, repair means bringing out the glue and hoping the plastic is a formula that accepts adhesion.

I haven't contacted the company re: warranty yet, but will do so tomorrow, when the work week begins. I'll update this review if I find any joy there.

At its price, I didn't expect the Rival griddle to be a top-quality item, but I did think it would last longer than two weeks. On the other hand, also given its price, I'm not going to get as bent out of shape over its failure as I would if it cost $100 -- one advantage of buying cheap.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I registered for this electic griddle for our 2003 wedding. I love it. It's just me and my husband right now, so you'd think it would be too big...but it's not. I can make hashbrowns, sausage and eggs all at the same time (or 8 pieces of french toast). We're in our first home, so it is tough to find a storage place for it, but we keep it in our storage room and I bring it up at least once a week. It cleans up very easily, too. ... Read more

With 100 shapes to choose from, this cookie cutter set offers kids the perfect combination of fun and education. Placing the cutters in their various categories, for example, is a playful exercise that teaches abstract logic and builds confidence. Categories include letters, numbers, geometric forms, animals, plants, vehicles, symbols (such as adollar sign and a question mark), seasonal themes, and miscellaneous shapes such as an umbrella and a bell. The cutters are formed of stiff, durable plastic, are colorful and fascinating enough to be used outside the kitchen, and are dishwasher-safe. A tip to grandparents: keep this set handy as a special treat, unique to your home, for little visitors. --Fred Brack ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth the money
these are not worth it. the dough get stuck in the cutter and it is very hard to get the dough out. I had to stop right in the middle of baking and go and buy metal cutters to finish my holiday cookies.I will now give these to the day care next to me for the kids to play with.

5-0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY VALUE FOR MONEY, unlimited by imagination!
Hmm... Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set - simply value for money!

If you have kids below 16, go for it.
As for me, I am forever young at heart especially with this 100 cookies cutters!

As for baking, some of the cutters are so BIG (so will be the cookies! I have to watch my weight!), unless you have a baking party for kids.
Each kid get to choose their favourite cutter to bake the cookies. Parental supervision is a must since the cookies dough do get stuck on some cutter.
At the end of Baking Day, each kid get to bring home - their prized cookies of the favourite shape! Hey MUM, LOOKED! My football cookies!

Another option, kids can draw outline of the various cutter on Art and Craft Day, and PAINT their Mona Lisa masterpiece!

Whatever you want to do with this cutter, simply limited by ones's imagination!

Exploit and explore.
I am sure many did especially with the alphabet and number cutters.

psst...the cutters occupy reasonable amount storage space.

2-0 out of 5 stars Big ones
The cookie cutters are good... that is if you like to make cookies the "american" size!! Boy! They are BIG, so not only the cookies are going to be huge but you need a lot of space to store the whole collection. As for the shapes I was dissapointed with the selection, it is not that great. I love the complete alphabet though. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars They keep breaking!
I've been making pizzas for about thirty years and have yet to have a Sassafras stone last for more than a few months. They work fine at 350 degrees but pizza is better baked at higher temps. Seems to me that Sassafras stones must be fired at too low a temp or something. Anyone know where to get one that doesn't break at, say, 500 degrees?

1-0 out of 5 stars 1. . .2. . .3 uses your out of a baking stone
We had a RECTANGULAR baking stone form Sassafras and loved it. It did not break under normal use. We had to replace it only after it was dropped on the edge of the sink. We thought the ROUND one would provide the same durability. WRONG!!! On the third use we suddenly had 3 baking stones but not a one we could use. I have never been more dissapointed in a kitchen product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Watch for the crack
It works beautifully.
Upon the 3rd use, I heard a terrible snap.
The stone broke in half.
Of course, I followed the directions.
Perhaps it is just too thin for real world usage. ... Read more
