Harold Stainless Steel Corn Cutter list price: $19.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review When sweet corn grows as high as an elephant's eye, you'll want to pull out this corn creamer. Millions of households use it to extract the full flavor of sweet corn by shredding the kernels to release their milky juices and to "milk" corncobs of even more juices. Because it has a cutting blade as well as little shredding knives, the corn creamer can also be used to cleanly slice whole kernels from ears of corn. Either method produces corn immeasurably tastier than the canned version. The 17-inch, stainless-steel creamer is simplicity itself. Place it over a pan and butt the long end against a wall or other backstop. Place an ear of corn in the groove and push it over the shredders six or seven times. To slice kernels off a cob, raise the cutting blade by adjusting a screw, cover the shredders with the removable guard, and push the corn over the blade once. Add any combination of milk, cream, butter, salt, and pepper (maybe a pinch of sugar or cayenne, too), and heat either creamed corn or whole kernels gently. --Fred Brack ... Norpro Pineapple Cutter list price: $8.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Except for its perky yellow plastic handle, the Norpro deluxe pineapple cutter is a formidable weapon, resembling something a member of the Coast Guard might carry to investigate a shark attack. A muzzle of spiked teeth, just shy of 3-1/2 inches in diameter, the cutter looks vaguely evil. The package directions make it sound easy: Slice the pineapple top 1 inch below leaves; press down with even pressure while turning the cutter to the left until you reach the fruit's bottom. But pressing down and turning against the resistance of fibrous pineapple pulp is harder than it looks. The cutting blades are not adjustable and won't cut through rind, so you must use a pineapple measuring at least 4 inches in diameter. If you are soft of heart and weak of muscle, just switch to cans or pay the extra bucks for presliced pineapple chunks in the produce section. But if you don't mind wrestling with your food and you want an alternative to the challenges of hand carving, your efforts will produce a spiffy hollow tube of juicy pineapple flesh ready to slice into rings or chunks for fruit salads, desserts, or baked-ham garnish. Pineapple juice is highly acidic, so follow the care instructions strictly. --Carol Gnojewski ... Read more Features Asin: B00004UE7X |

Norpro French Bean Slicer list price: $5.00 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review This little tool--5-1/4 inches long--makes preparing string beans a snap. At the top of the hard-plastic slicer is a razor-sharp, stainless-steel cross blade; use it to remove a bean's top and tail. Then feed the bean into the slicer's funnel, which is spring-loaded to hold the bean firmly, with the bean's string to the outside. Push the bean firmly against the four sharp, stainless-steel blades until the bean slices emerge underneath. Finally, grasp the slices and pull the bean through. Voilà! The string is removed and the beans are cut, French style, into neat slices. --Fred Brack ... Read more Features Asin: B00004UE6S |

Norpro Stainless Steel Egg/Mushroom Slicer Average Customer Review: Kitchen list price: $10.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (12)
What we need is an egg slicer that is less functional and more profound. We need a more human egg slicer. Do not purchase this item---it reeks of animality.
