Quick Reference for Tourists and others
Ok, I'll admit it: I've been to New York over a dozen times but I still can't find my way around perfectly. Its nothing to be ashamed of, the place is enormous. So I needed a good map of the place without blatantly looking like a tourist. I had tried a few others, and this one was definetly the best.

There are two maps: one of all the streets and then a subway map. The map of the subways is easier than the ones provided at the subways, which is nice because since I refuse to step into a taxi. Then there's a basic map, with important places written directly on it.

The second half of this has recommendations and locations on places to check out. Museums, food, shopping, etc. The food isn't really that helpful simply because there is soooo much to gorge on in NYC, and I recommend the Time Out NY Eating and drinking guide for that. Other than that, its nice to have all the big locations in one booklet.

It also comes with a compass, which is fabulous (if you've ever been deposited off Canal st. and can't figure out which direction to go in, you'll understand). It has a pen too and a spot for notes, but I can't really comment on that since I bought mine sans pen. I'm sure its great though. Best thing of all, it'll fit in your clutch. None of those horrible maps you've got to unroll and unfold and turn this way and that, this one's a pop-up. Just be careful with it though, if you close it wrong it'll take you a half an hour to close it right again.

I definetly recommend this to anyone who is new or semi-new to the city, and you want to check out all the great things the most fabulous city in the world has to offer.

Unique and Helpful Guide
Before my trip to New York City, I have looked at many guide books. This one is the most unique. It could fit in your pocket. It has two fold out maps of Manhattan (Midtown-South,North-Midtown). It has a pen inside. That's right I said it has a ink pen inside. It also has a working compass in the spine. The packaging is totally unique and effective. Inside it gives a general overview of goings-on in the city. With many of the descriptions of places it includes a website address. It is relatively cheap ($11.95) It is very cool. Awesome! Finally, a pan that the teflon doesn't flake off!
After searching for some good pans, I wound up with this one and boy, am I glad that I did!Don't EVER buy Cook's Essentials on QVC - they're horrible!Had to toss those things after TWO months from the flaking teflon.This Emeril pan is just the right match for my household.Nothing burns because it has all the right "stuff" in the middle, and nothing sticks.It's just fantastic - I baby these pans too. They're not made for the dishwasher and so therefore, greater care is required.I plan on using these for a very long time!

AWESOME!
I bought this pan a few months ago after picking up an All-Clad 8" stainless steel pan.This pan had so so ratings but I decided to go with my gut and purchased it.This pan has been flawless.I love cooking my breakfast, lunch and dinner with this pan.It is like I said, amazing.I'm looking forward to purchasing the 12" pan to make a complete set.

Nothing sticks!
I LOVE this pan! I've made everything from jambalaya to omelettes in this pan, and I can attest to the fact that it is the best frying pan I've ever used. Never in my life have I made an omelette without making a mess, but in this pan I can cook like a pro! The omelette flips over & slides right out with NO breakage.Bacon, frozen hashbrowns, pancakes (can you tell I like breakfast?) all cook evenly & quickly. Buy this pan if you want no mess, no fuss food preparation! One thing though: I'm not a big person, and the slim handle combines with the weight of the large pan makes it a little unwieldy. truly impressive

My #2 book I carried in London out of the 5 I bought
This book is a great size and sturdy for use while out on the streets of London.I was there 8 days and used this book second most.My #1 choice was the Knopf Map Guide London.This book, was very good though.It has a mini built-in compass and fold away pen for making notes.The map pages "pop out" and then fold back in.Maps highlight major tourist areas and attractions.Sometimes the map is a little tiny to ready, the Knopf was sometimes easiser to read.This book had 2 map sections: one of all of central London and then a more detailed one of Mayfair/Soho/Westminister areas.There are also a few pages on what to see/do/eat in London but not very detailed.I used a larger travel guide to help me plan out what I'd do while in London.I used this for out on the town to keep me from getting lost.The size of it can't be beat, easily fits in a large pocket or purse or bag.

How to be an inconspicuous tourist
This book is great and the tiny size makes it easy to check your map without looking like a lost tourist (even though you are one)! The subway map was unbelievably accurate and the suggestions for things to see and do was very helpful. But again, back to the map (I'm slightly obsessed), it was a great help in navigating the city and had all of the neighborhoods and major sights clearly labeled on it. Super maps,great guidebook
I took this guidebook on a recent trip to Venice, and can't tell you how many times I referred to it. The Waterbus Service map alone is worth the price of the book: we always knew exactly where we were going, and frequently shared it with other tourists! The city map is nicely detailed, and the guidebook section covers quite a bit of knowledge is such a tiny space. The size of this edition is wonderful: it fits in a shirt pocket easily. And the little compass in the spine was priceless in those rabbitwarren back streets (which is every street in Venice). Great Florence Guide
I lived in Florence and this guide fills a much needed niche. It has excellent, easy to use maps, and a good selection of restaurants, hotels. Great information on shopping, especially hard to find information on the discount outlets of Gucci and others. It's a guide for the returning traveler. (There is no point system.)It's the guide to put in your pocket to consult as you walk around. If you want the best comprehensive guide, the one to buy (if you plan to be a culture vulture for a few weeks or months) is the Blue Guide. The ULTIMATE, pocket guide.....
My husband and I have just come back from our first trip to Paris, and used this guide in conjunction with the DK Eyewitness travel guides to plan our trip.This little book is a JEM!It is small enough to fit in an inside coat pocket and keeps you from looking like a total tourist dragging around a large travel book everywhere you go.This book has it all-two fold out maps that detail the city center that we used extensively.The maps are small, and pop out and then neatly fold back.Inside the spine of the book is a small pen that slides out, so you can take notes as you go along-the note section could have had a few more pages, but this is such a small thing, it almost isn't worth mentioning.The book itself includes sections on what to see, that includes short descriptions and the location on the accompanying map as well as opening and closing times on many of the sites; where to eat, including prices and short descriptions; places to shop, a directory of hotel listings with prices and short descriptions; entertainment, and where to buy tickets for events; a practical information section, which include numbers for transit, car rentals, embassy numbers, medical care information, tour and cruise numbers, a listing of annual events, and at the back a small metro map, which is extremely important and a one page section on useful phrases, including the numbers, days of the week, words that you would use or hear daily and words that you will see in restaurants.Talk about a comprehensive little guide.Oh, and it has pictures to boot!!!!The guide is approximately 3x5", about half an inch thick, and also includes a pop out compass. You couldn't ask for a better guide to take on the streets with you.

I most definitely will seek this guide out the next time I travel in Europe or in the states.I understand that these guides are available for many major US and European cities.

My recommendation is buy the DK Guide to read in your hotel and plan your basic trip and then buy this little guide which gives you a very good value for the amount of information and guidance you will receive, and you will have everything you need to create your own adventure.
