1-0 out of 5 stars Unhappy with this pan
I have found this pan much too difficult to care for.Food tends to stick in the grooves and burns on. I have also found that the non-stick surface is not as effective as that on Calphalon or other pans.I complained to Circulon about a different pan that had food stuck on and worn off non-stick.They refused to honor their "lifetime" warranty claiming that I must have abused the pan.Buy with caution. Also the pancakes come out with what looks like a big thumbprint on them. I would not receommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent weight and balance - highly recommended
This is the second pan of this type I have bought.Heavy weight will not warp when used as recommended.Perfect for grilled sandwiches, omelets and quick searing.I use this pan more than any other skillet I own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for all types of cooking
I enjoy cooking with this one. The 12 inch is excellent and also with the Indian cooking that I have to do, its still perfect. I gave this as a gift to my mom and she loves it too... ... Read more

Editorial Review

The small size and sharp point of this paring knife make it ideal for handheld and other small or intricate cutting chores, such as vegetable peeling or mincing small amounts of parsley. An obligatory kitchen addition, this knife carries its weight mostly in its extremely comfortable handle, which allows you greater control.

Part of the Classic series, this knife represents two centuries of unexcelled Wüsthof craftsmanship. Like other cutlery in the series, it's hand-forged from a single piece of stainless steel for maximum strength; the hand-polished blade is exactingly calibrated to be hard enough to resist dulling yet soft enough to take a keen edge when it's honed or sharpened. Dishwasher-safe and with a traditionally shaped, ergonomically designed handle that is triple-riveted for durability, this knife brings a guaranteed lifetime of low-maintenance cutting to any cook who owns it. --Arthur Boehm ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A superb knife
I received this paring knife (included in the course fee) when I took a Wusthof knife skills course at a local shop. It's everything a knife should be - sharp, solid, well-balanced, and a comfortable fit in the hand.Wusthof got the proportions of the classic-style handle about right; not too fine, not too chunky... just right for comfort and control. After the course I gave it to my mother, who was surprised at its sharpness.(I already owned a Henckels Pro-S 3" paring knife, which has a slightly longer handle... IMO the two knives are similar in quality.)

This is also the knife that inspired a friend who finally bought one to exclaim, "I'm surprised you didn't say, 'You call that a knife?????THIS is a knife!' when you were using my (old, stamped, serrated) knives!"She now understands my addiction to forged German steel.

As always, it's best to try several knives in person and see how they fit your hand before buying, but it would be hard to go wrong with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wusthof Classic 3 1/2 inch paring knife
This is a great addition to any kitchen.I think it will last for the rest of my life!Soon I hopefully can add more of this brand to our kitchen.I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality makes a difference
I've got a cheap-o chef's knife and I've got this little 3 1/2" Wüsthof paring knife. It's a testament to the quality of the Wüsthof that I'd rather use it, even for big knife jobs like chopping vegetables or cutting meat. The quality of the blade more than makes up for the lack in size. ... The straight, serrated blade of this 5-inch knife cuts perfectly through sausages, tomatoes, and fruit skins. Cooks can find many other uses for this handy knife; for example, it works beautifully as a bar companion, cutting citrus wedges effortlessly. Because of its portability, it's also a great tool to pack for picnics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bagels anyone?
Although a little pricey for a utility knife, this knife is a perfect addition to a starter set (I have the set #8832, includes chefs, bread, sandwich, parer, stick and shears). It cuts tomatoes and bagels like butter. It is one that you will reach for for those jobs that require delicate cutting (such as sausage without tearing the skin) without having to go for the more substantial knives.

Strongly recommend as addition to a set which doesn't have this knife.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cuts well but rusted
After entirely TOO much time spent researching which knives to go with (Wustof or Henckels), I went with Wustof on recommendation from a Williams-Sonoma staff person. While the blade cuts nicely and does its job, the construction left a lot to be desired. I had the knife thru two washings and saw rust building up between the handle and full tang of the blade. Now, it's possible I have a lemon, but when I'm spending $50 per knife, I don't want to see anything really wrong with it. I don't want to be responsible for poisoning any dinner guests with rust! I bought the single knife to test whether I'd want the whole set, and well, it doesn't look like I'll be splurging.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Knife!
This is the absolute best knife for a variety of tasks including cutting vegetables, especially tomatoes and onions, bread and just about everything!!I've had this knife for almost 3 years now and reach for it everytime!a must have for all cooks! ... Read more

Functional as well as beautiful, the 13 pieces in this cookware set will bring joy to any serious cook. The set includes a 1-quart covered saucepan, a 1-1/2-quart covered saucepan, a 2-quart covered saucepan, and a big, 8-quart covered stockpot (6-1/2 inches high, 9-3/4 inches in diameter). Also included are 8-inch and 10-inch nonstick skillets. (The stockpot lid fits the larger skillet.) Finally, there are three mixing bowls--1-quart, 2-quart, and 3-quart--with snap-on plastic lids.

Except for the plastic lids, all pieces are made of heavy 18/10 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. The saucepans and stockpot have aluminum cores in their bases to spread heat quickly and evenly. The cores are completely clad in stainless steel for corrosion resistance and easy cleanup. Thick rolled rims add durability and make it possible to pour without dripping. Because the handles are safe to 350 degrees F (they stay cool on the stovetop), the pans, pot, and skillets can be used in the oven. The entire set comes with a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

3-0 out of 5 stars Avoid "Non-Stick" cookware.
Unless you find a bargain like this; then buy them and invest some of the savings into a breath-mask and a wire-wheel brush for your drill to remove it.

Otherwise, the coating will scratch, or burn. That means that at some point during the liftime of the product, you will be eating or breathing a flurocarbon compound that is more than just mildly toxic.

However, at this price, you could simply give away the skillets and keep the rest. You could easily pay $68 dollars for the stock pot alone.

Replace them with cast iron (search Kictchen and Housewares for cast iron skillets) and you will find many bargains on cast-iron cookware. (Check my other reviews for personal picks.)

4-0 out of 5 stars where o where are the stainless frypans of yore?
I have used my Farberware stainless steel starter set constantly ever since I received it 37 years ago when I got married. Then the frypans were stainless steel--same guage as the pots and even the eggs still don't stick. Now I want to start my daughter off with the same set--and all that is offered is ordinary aluminum non-stick skillets. Definitely a downgrade. Wish I could find a set on special--but with stainless frypans.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great stainless steel, but skillets are 100% aluminum.
We're happy with our 20-year-old Farberware stainless steel cookware, pre-dating the stainless steel capped base. The interiors are still like new.The lids are shiny and dent-free.The handles are faded, but remain tight with an occasional turn of a screw. We use it everyday.

We are equally pleased with the newer "Classic" pieces, especially with the added weight and improved appearance of the capped bases. We bought the 15-piece set, giving us some redundant pieces but at a better price than buying fewer pieces individually.

We like stainless steel for several reasons:It cooks well.We can use metal utensils. It lasts for decades. It's dishwasher safe without consequence. It looks good. It's heavy enough. It cleans up easily.(For occasional stuck on food, we simply blot out what's loose, add water, and bring to a boil. After a few seconds, the stuck on food wipes off easily.)

There's pricier cookware available, some with aluminum cores that extend up the sides of the pan, some with copper clad bases, some with handles rated to 500 degrees, some made of anodized aluminum, and some so heavy you can use it as part of your fitness program. After years of no-complaints with our Farberware Classic stainless steel, we can't see paying the premium prices for anything else.We don't use our cookware in the oven, so we're okay with our 350-degree handles.

One complaint with the set:The non-stick skillets are 100% ALUMINUM with a PLAIN exterior and NO heavy base cap.Per Farberware's own website (caps added for emphasis): "Aluminum stains easily and reacts with certain foods. A nonstick interior and PORCELAIN OR NONSTICK EXTERIOR prevents staining and food reaction. Nonstick aluminum is dishwasher safe. A PLAIN AUMINUM EXTERIOR may discolor in the dishwasher."

We use stainless steel for most of our cooking, but still prefer non-stick skillets for some things. We'd like the skillets in this set better if they at least had an exterior finish on them.

Follow-up:We gave away the aluminum skillets from this set and bought a set of Cuisinart stainless steel non-stick skillets to use alongside our collection of Farberware stainless steel.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good pans
I have most of these pans and would not consider giving them up for any other I have seen to date.I do not, however, trust the handles to oven use and I like to have a stock pot that I can use as a dutch oven in a pinch. If the handles were stated to be made of Bakelite material I would add these to my current set in a heartbeat. ... Read more

Editorial Review

With a lifespan of more than 50 years, Farberware Classic cookware has outlasted 10 U.S. presidents and countless ill-advised TV spin-offs. It's no wonder that Farberware considers the cookware line a timeless kitchen mainstay. This 6-quart stockpot--which features the distinctive button knob on the lid that characterizes the Classic line--is an ideal pot for simmering a pot of chili or preparing a heaping helping of Bolognese sauce for Aunt Esther, Uncle Irving, and the triplets. The stockpot also comes with a 4-quart steamer insert for steaming broccoli or other veggies, or for quickly draining corn on the cob or pasta.

The efficiency of Farberware Classic cookware is derived from the 18/10 stainless steel layers that surround an aluminum "full cap" base. The triple-ply construction heats the stockpot quickly, and ensures that your stove doesn't waste unnecessary energy while cooking. Other features of the Classic line include stay-cool phenolic handles that are oven-safe to 350 degrees F, tight-fitting stainless lids that keep nutrients and flavors from escaping, and thick, rolled rims that allow you to pour from the sides without dripping on the counter. For good measure, the cookware is dishwasher-safe and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. With a little love, this stockpot will easily outlast the next 10 presidential administrations--and well beyond. --Rivers Janssen ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Lifetime Warranty... I don't think so!
I ordered two of the Farberware stockpots, one for me, the other for my son.I opened the first one and was displeased with the way the "snug" fitting lid fit the insert.I promptly called Farberware.I didn't have any trouble getting through to a live person, however, I was cut off after being put on hold for an extended period of time. When I called back, I was transferred to the person I was originally talking to.It was then that I was courteously informed that I would have to return my purchase to Amazon because they didn't have any inserts to replace the defective one.Fortunately, Amazon handled the return extremely efficiently, but how can one get satisfaction from Farberware for the guarantee against defects when the part isn't even available? Now, in Farberware's defense, the second pot was just fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great steamer!
I bought this pot to use for pasta, but soon discovered that it's the perfect size for steaming clams. The pot is deep and the steamer sits on top giving you plenty of room for liquids underneath. Previous steamers I have owned always have the steamer compartment sitting so close to the bottom of the pot you end up boiling the stuff in the bottom of the basket. The pot is nice and thick and cooks evenly. I frequently use it when making sauce and soups. During the summer I would normally use my big outdoor pot for doing clams, but this pot is the perfect size for two dozen or so (littlnecks). In the time it takes to eat the first batch, the second are already done. It's a manageable size for cleaning and stores nicely with my other pots.

This 5-1/2-quart French oven by Le Creuset is a remarkably forgiving pan. If you just happen to forget you're sautéing onions for a soup while you answer the telephone, there's no need to worry--the onions won't burn. Enameled cast iron has been recognized as one of the best materials available for cookware because it retains heat and promotes gentle, even cooking at low heat ensuring that the best flavor is brought out from the ingredients. It's perfect for use on any heat source--gas, electric, radiant, ceramic, halogen, induction, or solid fuel. There's also a tight-fitting, enameled cast-iron lid that helps seal in heat and flavor. Food will be kept hot as you bring it to the table for serving. And you will certainly want to serve out of this beautiful piece--the deep color and shiny finish will brighten any table setting. --Jane DePaolo ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect size
This oven is the perfect size for most people. I cook a great deal from the Cook's Illustrated Soups and Stews book and have found nothing except stock that I cannot make in this oven. Everything just fits in for an even, controlled cooking process.

This pot also fits nicely on one burner. This means after you get your food going you can slide it to the back burner to simmer leaving all your other burners open for other work. This is a great contrast to Le Creuset's larger pans, especially the 7-1/2 quart soup pot that winds up taking three of your four burners out of action. The pan also fits nicely on a refrigerator shelf, letting you cook a day in advance and then easily reheat when you are ready.

You already know from the other reviews how well this pot does pot roast, chicken, etc; as well as how easily it cleans up. Le Creuset is expensive but this pot is well worth the price. It is the Dutch Oven you will use for a lifetime.

5-0 out of 5 stars Serious Cookware
Le Creuset has a line of cookware for serious cooks. I've had my dutch oven for 18 years and still use it at least 3 times a week. It is superb for slow cooking: braising, simmering and oven baking. It's easy to clean and still looks lovely after all these years.

I use it for cooking tough cuts of meats. I braise them on top of the stove, then cover the dutch oven and slow cook it for hours. The results are outstanding everytime.

It's very heavy, which is why it is so successful in sealing in juices. I considered buying the whole line, but quickly realised that only key pieces, like this dutch oven are really needed.

Is it worth the price? Yes... for anyone who enjoys old fashioned braising and stewing, this is the one piece I recommend you buy.

1-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for the first 5 years of heavy use only
When I was ready to lay down the $500.00 I had saved to purchase cookware that would last a life time; I researched heavily and decided on Le Creuset.$500.00 is a lot of money and I was more than willing to sacrifice it after I saw that this stuff had a life time warranty.Well 5 years later I am able to use only 4 pieces out of the 6 piece set that I purchased.I'm guessing from heavy use, as I thought it so wonderful, easy to clean etc..., the porcelain lining has begun to chip severly.I mean at least 70% of the surface is flaking off on the bottom of the pots. The flaking occurred suddenly when I was cooking and the pieces got in the food.
I attempted to resolve this under the life time warranty but got the complete run around. If I could get the enamel off I'm sure I'd have some great cast iron pots. ... Read more

Beautiful enough to bring to the table and durable enough to outlive its 101-year warranty against defects, this heavy casserole is perfect for preparing and ceremoniously serving dishes such as baked pasta, steamed mussels, and cherry cobbler.Use it in the oven or on the stovetop. Made of cast iron, with an exterior and interior clad in two coats of Le Creuset's famous bright enamel, the shapely casserole holds 2-1/4 quarts and measures 2-1/2 inches high without the lid. Cast iron is unexcelled for heat distribution and retention, so this casserole cooks foods evenly and gently at low temperatures without hot spots and is suitable for all heat sources. The plastic knob on its heavy, tight-fitting lid is ovenproof to 450 degrees F. Loop handles make this casserole easy to carry, and the casserole is dishwasher-safe. Like all Le Creuset cast-iron products, it is hand cast in a one-of-a-kind sand mold and hand finished at the Le Creuset factory in France. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars love it
One of the best pieces I've bought. I don't even need to buy a skillet as I use this for everything instead. This is the cheapest price I've seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Le Creuset products deserve their wonderful reputation
Le Creuset has a reputation for creating high-end, high-quality products, and the buffet casserole certainly helps maintain that reputation.I purchased one as an early Christmas present for myself, and have been using it every day (sometimes several times a day) since I got it.So far, I've used it to scramble eggs, caramelize onions, bake a chicken, roast garlic, brown meats, make pancakes - you name it.

My favorite way to use it is in the oven. The lid fits so well there's almost no loss of moisture, which means I no longer need to use oven baking bags or foil in order to retain moisture in food being baked.

True to their advertising, cleanup is a breeze. There is no such thing as "burned on food" - A few minutes soaking in warm soapy water is all that's needed to make even the most stubborn food release from the dish.

I was so impressed with the performance and versatility of the buffet casserole that I bought several more, which I gave as Christmas presents.

5-0 out of 5 stars A versatile basic
For a small kitchen or a single or small family, this is one of those handy pieces you tend to keep on the stove right next to the tea kettle. Functions as a medium-large skillet, low stewpot, round roasting pan, and small-medium casserole. Heat a tortilla, fry sausage & potatoes, scramble eggs, grill a cheese sandwich, do a ham slice with pineapple, bake macaroni & cheese or green bean casserole, make chicken & rice or pork chops & kraut or pot roast & veggies, saute onions or mushrooms, fry salmon patties or crab cakes, scallop potatoes or cauliflower or oysters, stew tomatoes or apple slices, stir up Rice-a-Roni or a frozen stir-fry mix, roast a chicken or batch of veggies, bake cornbread or gingerbread or an upside-down cake! This brand absolutely cannot be beat for gently cooking anything on low to med heat (for high heat use Scanpan). A few minutes soaking and ANYTHING washes off in a snap.Limited on space? This baby replaces the need for LOTS of other pots & pans, and does so in grand style! ... Read more

This multi-tasking tool should be a staple in every kitchen. This triangular-shaped, flexible sheet serves as a pot holder for pulling hot pans out of the oven, a jar opener for tightly sealed canned goods, and a trivet to rest hot pots on. The tool is made of FDA-approved, food-grade silicone, which provides a safe non-slip grip. The strong grip is reinforced by additional ridges in the tool’s surface. The webbed design helps to disperse heat when this tool is being used as a trivet and a dual layer of silicone provides insulation to keep hands cool when handling hot pots. This 6-by-6-inch tripod is heat-safe up to 675 degrees Fahrenheit and cleans up in the dishwasher. SiliconeZone’s revolutionary tools are covered by a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Pot Holder? No!
Bought this thinking "what a clever item" --cute shape plus could be used three ways.Trivet - yes!Jar opener - works well!Pot holder - NO! Product snaps back to flat shape unless gripped extremely firmly. Ended up dropping glass lid onto floor, narrowly missing my sandled foot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Versatile and Functional!!
I bought this item on a whim and have fallen in love with it!It is nice to have items that multifunction - especially having limited storage space in a kitchen like mine. This is a perfect three-in-one item that does it all.Typically it seems that you loose some level of function with a multitasking took but not with this!It does it all well and is even stain resistant.I spilled spaghetti sauce on it last week (I could immediately see the stain marks) - all it took was one quick rinse and it was brand new!Definately a great tool to keep handy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not A Trivial Trivet
I was sort of skeptical when I ordered this product since it's supposed to be so versatile. It actually works! :-) It is the first potholder I've ever found that actually keeps my hands from feeling the heat. Regular potholders always leave me hopping trying to get the pan out of the oven and down before I get a blister. This thing works great. It also is totally non slip and that is a lifesaver. The only thing I didn't like was they have these little "envelopes" to stick your fingers in on the back. That didn't work for me so I just grab it and it works fine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Five stars!
I highly recommend this set. I love the mixing bowls and the 4 smaller bowls I have used for dips for parties, it's a perfect size! I only use Pyrex measuring cups, so this one is perfect. I also love the pie pan and the covers that come with the set. It really is a nice addition to any kitchen!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful starter set!!!
I don't know how we ever survived in the kitchen without this handy set.We have used every item multiple times--even the parts we never thought we'd use!The price is terrific, too, for a gift for newlyweds or recent grads just leaving home. They'll appreciate it for certain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for those starting a new home!
I recently received this as a shower gift.We have basically nothing starting out as a young couple, and this was wonderful to receive. The glass is thick, and it gives you some much needed basics all in one kit.The bowls and measuring cup are especially useful on a regular basis.Quality stuff... I would recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars OXO HAS GREAT PRODUCTS!!!
OXO has a fabulous line of products, no matter where you purchase them. You will fall in love the first time that you use them, literally. I have so many products by OXO, you would think that I work for the company itself. Just the other day I found a Soft Grip Spatula by OXO at Target and I love it already. OXO can be expensive, but it is well worth it. I found there products to be very long lasting as well. I have measuring cups and spoons, mixing bowls with grips, tongs, and the actual set. I am trying to find other products as well. I did not know that Target carried OXO, now I can come to shop at Target. They are worth every penny. I have had my 9-pc. set for over 3-4 years now, it has yet to mess up. Great Buy!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd Known
When adding items to our wedding registry, I DID NOT ADD THIS SELECTION. Mostly because I already had a couple of spoons and spatulas. But, here it is more than a year after marriage and I am still adding individual pieces to my utensil drawer. I finally got around to buying a peeler last week (and it's an OXO brand peeler). I wish I would've known.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality
I received this as a wedding gift. The plastic items are top-notch, but the bladed items (except the potato peeler) are a bit on the dull side.Overall, however, great stuff. ... Read more
