Editorial Review

No physics or chemistry laboratory is complete without this book, which since 1922 has been the authoritative series on chemical and physical data. If you're still using an old edition, now's the time to update. And if you're taking a physics or chemistry class, it's a great investment in your education. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Things You Need
I knew that I was going to go in to some form of Chemistry in High School, and in College, I decided to go into Chemical Education. I am now a High School teacher who teaches Chemistry. It is with this background that I recommend that parents or students who plan to persue chemistry as a life-long ambition attain a copy (doesn't have to be the latest, get a cheap one) of the CRC or Lange's. This is because at some point in your life, you will need to look up the enthalpy of Al(OH)3 which can NOT be found on the net and not in most textbooks. Also, if you are going in to organic chemistry, get a Merck Index.

2-0 out of 5 stars Title is not precisely right
The title is not precisely right, the book contain the chemical data and the physics data represented in tables, its not a text book represent the theories and the principals on chemistry or physics as science, its 99% of it volume contain raw data, which is a good reference if you looking for a specific data for certain element like resistance, boiling temp, heat capacity, ...extra, but don't expect to find the theory or the principal applied on the science of chemistry and physics to conclude this kind of data represented in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An incredible resource
If I were allowed only two reference books, they would be the OED and this.

This book doesn't have everything, it just seems that way. Listing the content would take pages, and much of it is chemical or physical arcana - if you need the data, you already know what to look for. At a more accessible level, it lists the frequencies of notes in several musical scales, information about common wire sizes, astronomical information, the chemical makeup of the human body, and ways to create carefully controlled humidity. That last one can be helpful to woodworkers; this book really does have something for almost everyone.

Although it comes out every few years, most people won't need to update very often. The definition of a volt, for example, changes rarely and only in small ways. This is a pricey book, but it holds its value pretty well.

This is the scientific reference book to have. If you know a student interested in any of the sciences, it's also a great book to give, and it's something that will be valued for years to come.

Editorial Review

With its 3,223 pages of prescription drugs, the updated Physicians' Desk Reference is the most comprehensive, widely useddrug reference available. It is a requisite for hospitals, libraries, doctors, and medical students, and a boon to medical buffs and amateurs. There's a "Manufacturers' Index," a "Brand and Generic Name Index," a "ProductCategory Index," and the priceless "Product Identification Guide" (30 glossy pages filled with thousands of color pictures). There are also lists of drug information centers and poison control centers, but the heart of the book is the "Product Information" section, which details the pharmacology, usage, warnings, and precautions for more than 2,200 pharmaceuticals. The result is a weighty, irreplaceable medical reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everybody Should Own One
Everybody shold own a copy of this reference book.I have had doctors write out a perscription for me that would be lethal or at best land me into the hospital because they are not up on pharmacology. They practice medical care whchoften is one dimensional for a condition without taking into the other medications the patients are taking and are in too much of a hurry to monitor medications.I have had pharmacists fill perscriptions ,thinking their computers would red flag medications that should not be mixed, but the pharmacist cannot keep up with all of the medications, and their computers are not programmed to "red flag". I have had to ask for print outs and the doctors resent being called on if meds they ordered were dangerous with other medical conditions. So patients need to cross-reference the medications themselves. This book needs to be kept up to date and at a place of easy accessibility at home for every patient.Mistakes are made too easily and no one wants to take responsibility for the mistakes of pharmacists or physicians.Patients need to become knowledgeabe of every dangerous interaction with conditions they have, or other medications they are taking. The book is very large and bulky, but it has a tremendous amount of information contained in it. There is a section of generic name, as well as brand names.New medications come out every year and a patient needs to know more than the small print out the pharmacy supplies. It is easy for a doctor to use a laptop computer, list medical conditions and information, including medications a patient is on and cross reference. I have seen an excellent doctor do this to keep a patient well.Unfortunately, not many doctors either can be bothered or know how to do this, so patients have needed to monitor their medications and become knowledgeable or they take high risks leaving their trust in a person who has an MD after their name. They take for granted the title has endowments of high credibility. The PDR is essential for a patient to keep themselves out of harms way.Just as in any field some doctors are very good and some more interested in their day off at the golf course. As time goes on, patients have needed to seriosly question the quality of their doctor and the medications that he is perscribing. The patient needs a reference book to read all of the information of the medications, that their doctor has not paid attention to for good medicine. I prefer a doctor that earned a good reputation, not one that is "practicing" on me with medications he is not familar with that a pharmacudical reprsentative gave him samples of, so he orders whatever a salesman told him to order.Get this PDR and think things through before blindly trusting a doctor that has not even considered all of the interactions that could possibly prove fatal. Doctors who are "too busy" to bother are dangerous. Mrs Symmington

3-0 out of 5 stars Psychopharm's "Bible"
The PDR, published annually and continually updated, is *the* desk reference for any doctor who prescribes prescription medications. It contains detailed information on dosage, contraindictions, med interactions, all the things that the manufacturer's reps aren't likely to mention when selling your doctor on a featured drug.
Individuals who take several meds for comorbid chronic conditions will welcome information besides the little orange "May cause drowsiness" stickers on the med bottles, and with the available update service will keep and use the PDR for years to come.
Am I the only person who removes those stickers and places them on boring things at work?
Yours in healing...

3-0 out of 5 stars Remember this information is provided by the manufacturers
Although this information is very useful, it is manufacturers' self-reported data.It doe not necessarily post studies that are actually done on target populations - children for Ritalin for example. So you cannot rely upon the information as if it were done by objective third parties.

Nonetheless it is very useful to have.It is a shame that we don't have much objective information on drugs, particularly after so many recalls and recent problems with shaded data. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The Little Pro Plus is an absolutely necessary all-in-one kitchen tool. It chops, dices, shreds, grates, purées, and even kneads dough. Add the super citrus juicer and one of the three juicing cones and there's an automatic at-home juice bar. The base measures only 6 by 8-1/2 inches, so it fits cozily on the counter and is easy to store. Included is a comprehensive booklet detailing the many different ways of using the Little Pro Plus and dozens of recipes (try a homemade hummus). It even has pictures of how to assemble and use for those of us who are visual learners. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works Very Well for the Price I Paid for
Juicer makes only citrus juice, but I was hoping that it would make carrot juice. That wasn't the case. I wish it was written "Food Processor and Cistus Juicer" instead of "Food Processor and Juicer." Other than that, I am very happy wiht the product.

I appreciate the safety feature that does not allow users to turn the switch on without everything appropreately installed. The blade is very sharp and now I feel safe to use the processor even though I can often be absent-minded while I cook. I was worried about injuring myself as I do stupid things, but this processor is safe to use. You cannot operate without all the cover installed completely because it is designed that way.

I was surprised to find how easy cleaning was. I suppose if you put oil or animal product, cleaning can require more detargent and scrabbing, but since I use it only with vegetables and nuts, I don't even have to use detargent. I rinse the parts with a dish washing brush and all the parts gets clean quite easily. I think the key is not to leave them darty and wash them right after you use them.

I have not used it long enough to tell you how long it lasts, but I use it almost every day. Food processor is a must-have if you love cooking. It also helps when you have dental problems that require soft food.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not powerful, but still beats doing itby hand
We have a kosher kitchen and I use this little processor for dairy: grating small quantities of parmesan cheese and vegetables; making tuna salad. It serves its purpose, but has something of a toy-like quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars High quality and durable
The Little Pro Plus has been my only food processor for 8 years. It is powerful, versatile and small. If it ever dies on me I will replace it with another just like it! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Designed for serious cooks, Cuisinart's MultiClad stainlesspots and pans heat quickly and uniformly thanks to an aluminum corebonded between layers of 18/10 stainless steel. The core runs acrossthe bottoms and all the way up the sides of the cookware to disperseheat evenly throughout food. The nonreactive interior layer is highlypolished so it's naturally stick-resistant as well as resistant todiscoloration and corrosion. A polished band just below each pan's rimhandsomely accents the brushed exterior. In addition, a deep-set,tight-fitting, polished lid; a tapered rim for drip-free pouring; and apolished handle riveted for strength make this classic, straight-sided,2-quart sauté pan ideal for sautéing or frying a meal. For pan-roasting, the pan is oven-safe to 500 degrees F. It measures8-1/4 inches in diameter and 2-1/2 inches deep. Though it'sdishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended to maintain the pan'sbeauty throughout its lifetime warranty against defects. --FredBrack ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars good pan, bad handle
This is a nice pan but it has an awkward handle.A saute pan needs a handle capable of heavy lifting and this handle is too flat for bigger hands (mine) and probably not shaped well for smaller hands either.

It is a shame that the handle designer might have been using a Korean handle design because I have not seen this handle used by Cuisinart before.I was clearly disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great little pan from Cuisinart!
This is a great little pan for small recipes that don't really require the bulk of a large saute or sauteuse pan. Perfect for making small recipes of sauce, pasta dishes, shrimp scampi, or chicken cacciatore. Never burns or scorches.Delivers everything promised and more.Easy to clean, even after really messy concoctions. The price is right, so what more could you want? This would also be a great pan to buy to *try out* the MultiClad line.It is versatile and functional, and is sure to make you fall in love with the whole MultiClad line. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Worst brand out there
These cookie sheets suck, to put it mildly. I went to bake biscuits on my new AirBake cookie sheet and they overbrownedwith minuted left on the cook time and stuck so badly I ended up throwing away the entire thing- pan and all. I'd like to note that they stuck even though I buttered the cookie sheet with a large gob of butter. The worst part is I had recently recieved a bunch of AirBake as a housewarming gift and I can't return any of it. I'm afraid to use the AirBake cake or pizza pan I have because I know whatever I cook will overbrown quickly and then stick no matter how much I grease the pans. I'm going back to using my old cheap non-stick bakeware- thank goodness I didn't throw it out.

1-0 out of 5 stars The stay put pan
I have never seen Pillsbury Crescent Rolls stick to anything before in all my days of cooking. The Airbake pans changed this. Not only were they burnt in 5 minutes less time than the directions, which we have used for years, showed but they were also each stuck firmly to the pans. Good thing however because when we opened the oven, the smoke detector went off so we had to run with the pan outside. Didn't lose our burnt crescent rolls however as they were stuck in place on the pan. What a great innovative product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still standing strong although it has scratches
I have had this sheet for over 4 years. Although it has acquired some scratches probably due to my stacking other pots and pans on top of it. Cookies are cooked fairly well and easy to remove. I had just purchased a wilton cookie sheet which my first use of it left me disgusted. The sheet had brown spots on it onced I removed the cookies from the sheet which did not wash off. It seemed as if they cooked quickly burning the bottom of the cookie. The funny thing is I was using both sheets at the same time. I kept thinking to myself how come this isn't happening to my air bake sheet? I was monitoring the time that they were in there it wasn't that I was doing anything wrong. I wasn't happy at all. However my good old reliable air bake saved me because at least some of the cookies I made were edible. I am going to purchase more when I have the chance. ... Read more
