    Editorial Review

This smaller version of George Foreman's famous "as seen on TV" Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine is perfect for preparing quick, low-fat meals for one or two people. The double-sided grill surface heats in less than five minutes to an even temperature perfect for grilling most foods. The high grill grooves and slight angle allow fat to run off the grill as food cooks, and the nonstick surface requires little or no additional fat for cooking. The plastic, grooved spatula works well to scrape off any bits that may have stuck to the surface.

Meats and fish are the obvious choices to take advantage of the Grilling Machine's fat-reduced grilling, but vegetables and tofu dogs work well too. The double-sided grill means food cooks twice as fast, leaves attractive grill marks, and generates surprisingly little smoke. --Julija Gelazis ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money on this - buy a convection oven
I agree completely with Mr. Charles Tsen.Every thing he has written about this grill is right.I had the misfortune of buying this after reading all the hype about this useless appliance.I bougth it more than a year ago and promised myself that i would never use it again. It is ridiculosuly difficult to clean and you simply will never get the desired results. For all those people looking to get a great fat reducing machine, I would recommend that they should consider "Nesco American Harvest JS-4000TE Jet Stream Oven" from Amazon or any other site.I have been using this convection oven for the past 6-7 years and am extremely satisfied. One tip in prolonging the life of this convection oven is to use a fresh paper towel on the tray to absorb all the fat before using it.

Quick heat up means a quick meal. As a busy single,I find that I can put a potato in the microwave, plug in the grill, preheat, put the meat on the grill and be ready by the time the potato is cooked and a vegetable is put together.Clean up is simple thanks to the nonstick coating. I cook everything, including eggplant on this grill. It is a definite necessity in my kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars George Foreman where have you been all my life??
This is such an awesome little piece of kit and have recommended it to so many people! My five star review i guess also takes into condideration the price we paid. We go this when it was reduced to $14.99 and I doubt that, pound for pound, you could get a better kitchen gadget for that price.

As I had previously seen this on tv infomercials I was a little sceptical as I always am of these "gadgets", but this really has changed our kitchen lives. It heats up so fast and cooks very quickly and evenly (due to it cooking both sides at once). We really love the speed - its great to know that in four/five minutes you can have a perfect tuna-stek or porkchop without having to fire up the oven. It also frees up the oven to cook other things for your meal.

Its just big enough to cook two chicken breasts or two burgers, a porkchop or steak. But it can also be used for sausage links, bacon, vegetables and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Some people have mentioned they have real problems cleaning it up. Whilst yes it could be better but you literally just scrape off any excess and wipe it down. If you dont want to have to do that then you need to buy the one with removable plates but it would have cost us three times as much.

Be warned thought that the fat-collecting drip tray shouldnt be put in the dishwasher - we did and it melted part of it. ... Read more

Tilia FoodSaver Professional II Vacuum Sealing Kit

    Editorial Review

Ingenious and simple to operate, Tilia's FoodSaver system seals food inside containers after vacuuming out the air--and the oxygen that causes foods to spoil. That means food stays fresh longer than when it's merely refrigerated or frozen. Meat, for example, remains good in the freezer for about six months; frozen inside a vacuum package, it remains good for two to three years--and it doesn't suffer freezer burn, either. Fish, coffee, cheese, crackers, sugar, nuts, oils, and wine all stay fresh three to five times longer when stored in a vacuum, whether they're frozen, refrigerated, or at room temperature. Also, silverware and other metal items won't tarnish when stored in a vacuum-sealed bag.

This is Tilia's biggest FoodSaver machine, ideal for packaging large quantities at once. Like all FoodSaver machines, this one vacuums air from containers and seals bags with a simple one-touch operation. It has a manual sealing button for partial air removal and a sealing-time adjustment switch. The machine measures 21 by 6-1/2 by 3 inches, weighs 9 pounds, has a cord-storage compartment, and cleans easily with a damp, soapy cloth. It carries a one-year warranty against defects. An instruction booklet and video accompany the machine.

The basic FoodSaver container is Tilia's three-layer VacLoc bag: it has two plastic layers and an outer nylon layer to keep moist foods (such as meat loaf or chocolate cake) moist, dry foods (such as brown sugar or flour) dry, and all foods from leaking odor. Included in this kit are three quart size bags, and two gallon bags, covering many needs. For cooking, the bags can go directly into a microwave oven or boiling water. They're resealable, reusable, and dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Recurrent Problem
I'm amazed so many people find no problem with this product -- for me it has been nothing but trouble. When it works, it works well; unfortunately, it mostly doesn't work. The common failing is that after producing a vacuum, the heat sealer fails to activate. I have sent the product back on two occasions because of this and received back a repaired product on the first occasion and what I presume was a new replacement the second time.On each occasion the device worked for a period of time and then re-developed the same problem.I think I'll try an alternative brand this time around.

I am disappointed with this unit.It has a tendency to over heat and shut off.My father-in-law owns the same unit and he has the same problem with his.

Ours just recently died after hardly using it over the past year. The main board went out, so the unit will not even turn on.It will cost $89 for the part plus $45 in labor and shipping fees. The service dealer said that this is a normal problem for the Professional II.We paid $289.93 for the unit.

That aside, the unit worked well to seal Alaskan wild game and fish.It is a plus to have the built in bag cutter and the sealing time adjustment switch. For the price paid and the amount used, it should have lasted longer.

2-0 out of 5 stars If you have problems, buyer beware
I've been a BIG foodsaver user for many years.Yes it has it's limitations, but it helps when buying in bulk.I purchased my first foodsaver many, many years ago after seeing the TV commerical for it.I was extremely happy with it and couldn't tell people just how happy I was with it.I used it for years and years. Finally the motor started to slow down and the suction power failed. So I got a new one.A no-brainer I thought.

I was really disappointed with this one.It didn't have the same suction power that my older version had and there was a wrinkle on the sealing tape. That wrinkle soon because bigger and bigger and then became a hole in the seal which let air in.Finally after a year and a 1/2 of sealing it twice on each side I called for support.I was told it would be $50 and if they couldn't fix it immediately would send me a new one.As it turns out, I was without one for over two months and I got a refurbished one back. This one isn't any better than the one I returned. It also has wrinkles in the sealing tape and this one has less power in the motor.I'm very disappointed in their products now.I'll call again to see what they'll do for me, but I don't expect to get anything better.

I guess it's a hit a miss with this machine. If it works great at first, than it'll work great for a long time. But if it doesn't than you got a lemon and don't expect to get anything better from their support.

I'm in the process of researching a better machine from another company.Hopefully I can find what I had with my original FoodSave from the '90s.

This electric crêpe maker is a bit like a frying pan turned inside out. Instead of a pan shape, it looks a bit like a banjo, and the top is a convex, nonstick cooking surface. Preheat, then dip it directly into the batter, rotate it right side up, and wait until the ready light turns on. Then just flip it back over to drop the cooked crêpe onto a plate and fill with the delicacy of your choice. Each crêpe takes just under a minute to cook, so you can serve as many as your guests can eat without spending the whole meal hovering in the kitchen. A short recipe booklet ranging from pigs in blankets to blintzes is included. --Richard Farr ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best $20 I've ever spent!
Ordered this from Amazon, and it is a fantastic machine. Beautiful thin crepes every time. It comes with a basic recipe book, and we used the exact recipe last night. Today I tried the recipe without the butter added because we're on a diet, and the crepes didn't slide off as well. If you're ona low fat diet, I suggest using a little bit of PAM on the surface, and wiping with a paper towel between each crepe. The other thing is we like our crepes a little more crispy, so we turned each over for 2 seconds. Didn't take long at all to get a batch ready. By the way - don't pay extra for the other machine that comes with a dipping tray, just use a regular glass pie dish - easy. This one is so easy to clean too! We love it. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING LITTLE HELPER!!!!
I just purchased this crepe maker to make crepe manicotti for Easter.I had NO idea just how simple and easy it would be!!I kept putting it off thinking it would be a major project and very complicated.....JUST THE OPPOSITE!Making one crepe takes about 3 seconds....just dip the top of the crepe pan into the batter (which is in a pie tin), let it sit and "cook", when the ready light goes on, just turn the crepe maker over and your newly cooked crepe just falls off onto a plate! Each crepe is super thin and perfect. And the amazing part is that when you stack the crepes on top of each other, they don't stick to oneanother!!There is a recipe book included and it is great.Very simple and quick recipes. My manicotti was the hit at Easter dinner!!You have to buy this product!I can't wait to make more dishes!!

Tortilla, chapati, naan, pita, focaccia, roti, lavash, lefse--all these and about a dozen other flatbreads can be baked neatly in this ingenious countertop appliance while their fillings are either cooking or warming in the appliance's skillet. Not only does the 1,440-watt appliance make flatbreads easy to prepare, a detailed, color-photo, 122-page booklet comes along to provide recipes for both breads and fillings, opening an entire ethnic-cooking universe to novice and expert cooks alike. For ultimate ease, frozen doughs (pizza, crescent rolls, biscuits, cornbread, breadsticks, etc.) can also be used.

The appliance works this way: The lower portion is a nonstick bread press. Preheat the press, place a ball of dough on the removable nonstick paddle, and flatten the dough into a 9-inch round by lowering and locking the press handle. The flatbread then cooks and slides easily off the paddle afterward. Atop the appliance is a built-in, 9-inch, nonstick skillet with a glass lid that can be used to further brown cooked flatbreads, to keep them warm, or to cook or warm fillings. The skillet works like any electric skillet and has three temperature settings: warm; medium for baking thick breads like focaccia; and high for sautéing, stir-frying, and pan-frying foods. For storage, the press handle comes out and fits into a rear slot. --Fred Brack ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not hot enough to cook authentic tortillas - too rubbery
My wife cooks the traditional Mexican food she grew up with at least 5 times a week.We purchased this machine so that she could make tortillas quickly.Unfortunately, the unit does not get hot enough to cook the tortillas properly. The resulting flat bread is rubbery and lacks the proper consistency.By following some of the additional recipes, we made bread suitable for roll-ups or desert wrappings, but it was *impossible* to reproduce traditional tortillas cooked on a hot gridle.

If you are attempting to make a real Mexican tortilla, this is not a substitute for a cast iron gridle.
