Finished in a clean-looking, lead-free glaze, this 8-inch Fiestaware flower vase provides a discreet and sturdy base for wet or dry bouquets. With a slightly fluted lip, the vase allows flowers to fall into a natural and relaxed position without drooping. Slightly wider than the body, the base measures 3-3/8 inches in diameter, while the mouth measures 3-7/8 inches across. The vase has decorative ribs and a lightly scalloped lip. Because it's dishwasher-safe, you don't have to fight to remove floral residue with a wire brush. --Emily Bedard ... Read more Features Reviews (3)

Stickley Style : Arts and Crafts Homes in the Craftsman Tradition Average Customer Review: Hardcover (05 October, 1999) list price: $40.00 -- our price: $25.20 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The Arts & Crafts movement first gained popularity in England in the late 1800s as people became distressed by spreading industrialization and factory goods produced inexpensively with flimsy construction and inferior wood. Seeing that the new system treated workers as machines, the movement sought to revive a craftsmanship of earlier times. In the United States, Gustav Stickley gathered together many of the movement's shared beliefs as he tried to, among other things, clear the clutter typically found in Victorian interiors and replace it with something simpler. The book begins tracing Stickley's life in 1876 when, at 18, he found his life's vocation while working in his uncle's furniture factory in Brandt, Pennsylvania. Through wonderful photos (many of them full-page) and careful wording, David Cathers andAlexander Vertikoff demonstrate a clear appreciation for Stickley's style--unvarnished wood, exposed joinery, strength, no-nonsense forms, and the beauty of integrity. Stickley, in short, devoted his life to celebrating and making visible the elements of construction. The work of others who helped to shape the Arts & Crafts movement--including architect Harvey Ellis, Charles and Henry Greene, Elbert Hubbard's Roycroft community, and Charles Rohlf--is also examined. Among the highlights of the book is Craftsman Farms, an artisan colony, model farm, and school Stickley built on 650 acres, described in its time as "a log cabin idealized." The book also examines Stickley's Colonial Revival House in Syracuse, New York, which he turned into the first Craftsman residential interior after a fire damaged the house on Christmas Eve, 1901. It was also to be the house where Stickley, widowed and nearly penniless, lived out most of his final years (he died in 1942) with his daughter and her five children. Many of the details about Stickley's personal life come from his grandchildren's memories. "He was," one grandchild has written, "almost an evangelist in bringing new thoughts and new appreciation of things artistic and new social thinking. That is something that doesn't go bankrupt and he, as an inspiring person, never did go bankrupt." --John Russell ... Read more Reviews (3)

After receiving the 60" Old Dutch pot stand in graphite from Amazon.com, I decided to wait a couple of weeks before I put it together since one reviewer seemed to have a difficult time with the assembly. Today was my day and I had absolutely no problems putting the pot stand together. The important thing is for everyone to take a moment to read the directions, which are clear, simple and precise. After opening the box and separating the parts, I sat down with a cup of coffee to review the assembly.I took my time, made sure that all parts were available (which they were) and within 45 minutes I had my new, beautiful pot stand.I say 45 minutes, because I occasionally sat down to take a moment for myself before I would start the next part. The pot stand is very level; not wobbly. The metal is nice and thick and the piece looks expensive. The only advice I would give you since I speak from experience putting together cast iron furniture is:don't completely tighten up all the screws until after the entire piece is put together.Once you're satisfied with your assembly, then go ahead and really tighten the screws. My pot stand is beautiful and sturdy!I put all my new beautiful color pieces of LeCreuset enamel cast iron cookware (which I also ordered from Amazon.com) on the stand and feel secure that it will remain sturdy. The stand is large enough that you can fit quite a few large casseroles. skillets and saucepans, but it's small enough that you won't be taking up a large corner of your kitchen or dining area. The stand has beautiful curleques on the top where you could probably put potholders or aprons...I prefer to keep it simple.I have seen similar stands like this at a very famous cookstore in upscale malls for hundreds of dollars more.Amazon.com's price is right, not to mention free shipping. The graphite color is beautiful...sort of a dark charcoal gray (almost but not quite black). The largest shelf starts at the bottom; the smallest at the top.My largest LeCreuset casserole is 5.5 quart but I feel sure that you could place a 9.5 or 11 quart casserole on the bottom shelf. The stand would also look great with plants, books or dishes stacked on the levels. Keep up the great work Old Dutch and Amazon.com! ... Read more Asin: B00005Q5GB |

For making meringues, or forany dish that requires whipped egg whites, the three bowls in thisnesting set, then, are unsurpassed. Use them also for whipping up theItalian dessert called zabaglione. The bowls are 6 , 7 , and 8 inchesin diameter and have traditional brass rings so they can be hung flatagainst a wall. Bowls this beautiful can also hold fruit and vegetableson the counter. Because copperware is often used purely for decoration, the bowls come with a protective coating that prevents tarnishing. Ifthey're used for cooking, the coating must be stripped off with anycommon lacquer remover. Accompanying the bowls is an 8-inchstainless-steel whisk that fits them perfectly. --Fred Brack ...
