Nice set to matchyour All-Clad cookware!
This is a great kit to go along with any All-Clad cookware collection that you might have going already.Though it comes with a very nice looking stainless steel cup, I prefer to use the hanging rack (also available on Amazon if you search for "all-clad hanging rack").Plus its not hard to find an alternate use for the cup for something else.

My opinion is going to be somewhat biased because I love everything All-Clad.Everything they make seems to have some kind of heft and beauty that I just cant resist.There aren't many things in the kitchen that you can use and abuse with the kind of ferocious angst as with an All-Clad Product.

This tool kit is quality at a great price.

25 years and still going strong!
This is the only appliance we received as a wedding gift -- from my Mom, of course! :) -- that is still alive and kicking. We'll have our 25th anniversary next month, so I couldn't resist writing this review of something that has been with us since "the beginning."

While I don't haul it out as often as I used to, it's great knowing it's there when I feel like making a ton of cookie dough or mixing up a fabulous cheesecake. My Christmas cookies are a family recipe for "kolachkis" (Polish ?) that use 2 pounds of flour, 2 pounds of butter, and 2 pounds of cream cheese for the dough. There would be no way I'd ever make them without this wonderful ol' beast! It can also grind the walnuts for the filling, and be ready to move on to the pumkin pie filling.

Ice cream just the way you want it!
This is a delightfully easy way to make ice cream that tastes the way you want it to.Want a flavor no one sells?Mix it yourself with this easy-to-use machine.Even basic flavors are great when you control the ingredients that go in.
The machine is not messy, as it requires no ice or rock salt, and all of the parts are fairly easy to wash.The recipes in the instruction book work just fine.

A bit of advice;
1)Read the instructions carefully.
2)Plan for some lead time.You need to have the bowl completely frozen. (If you need to make more than one batch at a time, you can buy an extra freezer bowl.)
3)Bear in mind that the ice cream will still be soft when the machine is done with it. (This is true with most ice cream machines.) You will still need to put it in the freezer for a while before serving.
4)Indulge in high quality ingredients; for example, get some whole vanilla beans for your vanilla ice cream. (If you want a lot of them, eBay is the cheapest place to get them.)

I am delighted with this purchase and just can not imagine buying ice cream from the store again.

Pays for itself in one summer of use
I've had this ice-cream maker for three years now, and think it's the best little ice-cream maker I've owned. It's so easy to use and clean, and works perfectly every time. It has definitely paid for itself several times over, because I haven't bought store-bought ice-cream since I bought this machine, and I've made LOTS of ice-cream, gelato and sorbet with it since.

My recommendation for best results: Refridgerate your ice-cream mixture overnight before making if possible, and be sure the insert is thoroughly frozen in a very cold freezer. On warm summer days, I also cover the top opening of the clear plastic "lid"with a folded towel to keep the cool in better.

Excellent Coffee ...
My husband is an amateur (think "weekend") chef and coffee fanatic. This machine was WONDERFUL. I purchased ours in December 2001 - October 2003 was our first problem - frother broke (seems to be a common complaint- DeLonghi take NOTICE!)
We're not sure it's worth dealing with the hassles of a repair center, but are entirely too attached to the best coffee maker EVER to trash it completely (since it stillworks to make coffee)
It does NOT have an auto-off feature, but that really shouldnt be necessary and definitely shouldnt be a deterrent. We've never had problems with the carafe, filters, etc. We bought it new for $249.99 and that was steep, but I would consider doing it again (definitely if the frother worked for more than 2 yrs!)

Good product, except for replacement parts
I bought this version just before they went to a digital display. I have the simple "on/off" buttons with no timer.
This machine performs great, easy to use, durable, and very easy to clean and maintain. My only complaint is with Delonghi. This system comes with 2 of the carbon water filters when you buy it. (you can even see them in the pictures on Amazon).

Good luck in replacing them once you finish with them. I searched for 2 weeks (locally and online) to find out you can only get them from Delonghi directly (at 5.00 ea + s/h) and that's only if they can find them. I had to wait 3 weeks for a phone rep to "research" my part request and have them tell me that they are having trouble locating the item.

I was told to wait another month as they are getting an outside company to run their spare/replacement parts warehouse and they should be able find the water filters for me.

My advice, use the system with filtered/spring water and forget trying to replace the inline filter.

Beware
Four months after I purchased this coffee maker it quit working. I delivered it to the designated service shop where is has been languishing for two months. When I spoke to the service rep. at DeLonghi today, she told me they had lost the replacement part and would have to start all over again. She didn't know how much longer it would take, wouldn't send me another coffee maker, and wouldn't make a refund. Let the buyer beware! ... Read more

cool carafe
I love this carafe - it is perfect for making flavored water with sliced lemons, limes & oranges. The narrow neck means that the fruit won't fall into your glass while you are pouring and the fruit staying put also means it can steep in the water longer...YUM

Nice Item, But Somewhat Useless
I don't use this item as often as I had planned when deciding to buy it or not.If you put milk or anything in it for breakfast, you have to put it back in the original container or another pitcher for storage, as this carafe don't have to lid.

I mostly just use my for brunch when I have company over.I really would like to use it more, but it is a big waste of time for me to have to re-store the liquid after use.

If you would like to use this as part of an ice tea or lemonade set, look around at local stores for glasses.I have seen them in the more expensive department stores.

If Fiesta or Amazon where to make an improvement for this item, I think offering the Fiestaware tumblers or glasses would be a great item.

Just okay...
I'm still looking for the perfect salad spinner. I had this one and broke it after trying to take the lid apart to try to clean under the lid--don't attempt that! I didn't like how this one had a domed lid so you couldn't stack stuff on top of it. I also found that the interior of the basket wasnt smooth but a bumpy basket weave so little bits of lettuce get stuck in it.

Worked great until it broke
This was a wonderful salad spinner for the several months it worked.Then it broke.In my kitchen, very few things break.The occasional wooden spatula after fifteen years of use is fine but things tend not to break unless I drop them.This is my second Oxo product that broke while I was using it (the other one was a knife--yes, a knife snapped in two while I was cutting).I still love my Oxo peeler but with two out of three of my Oxo products breaking, I'm done with Oxo for the most part.

Wonderful
I have a ceramic cooktop and this teakettle heats the water about 5 times faster than the kettle I had before.

A good, solid kettle
I got one of these as a gift a couple of years ago and it's great: holds a lot of water, heats quickly. The rivet that secures the lid handle has rusted, but it doesn't seem at all inclined to crumble and break.

My only complaint--this is so trivial!--is that the texture of Calphalon stuff is reminiscent of blackboard material. Every time I remove or replace the lid, the scraping of metal on metal makes me flinch. The texture freaks me out to a lesser degree on those rare occasions when I have to scrub the kettle. For some reason this only occurs with Calphalon; I don't have this reaction when handling my non-Calphalon anodized cookware. Fellow freaks beware!

Update: I've now had this kettle for about five years, and I noticed when cleaning it the other day that the inside bottom is pocked and has white spots that look like mineral deposits but that don't scrub off. All of the pocks are small in diameter, but one or two are quite deep and may eventually work their way through the thick bottom of the kettle. Water in New York is not known for its hardness and I almost always use filtered (Brita) water in the kettle. I also tend to empty the kettle on every use--I rarely leave water sitting in it. So I'm inclined to think that these holes result from flaws in the metal, combined with heat. The kettle's still plenty strong, but I may be taking advantage of the lifetime warrantee on Calphalon Professional products in a few more years.
