Beautiful enough to bring to the table, but durable enough tooutlive its 101-year warranty against defects, this heavy casserole isshaped like a green bell pepper, perfect for preparing andceremoniously serving a lamb stew or other festive dish. Use it in theoven or on the stovetop. Made of cast iron, with an exterior andinterior clad in Le Creuset's famous bright enamel, the casserole holds2 quarts and measures 8-3/8 inches wide (with its two handles), 7inches high, and 6-7/8 inches deep. Cast iron is unexcelled for heatdistribution and retention, so this casserole cooks foods evenly andgently without hot spots. The knob on its heavy, tight-fitting lid isoven-safe to 450 degrees F. Loop handles facilitate carrying, and thecasserole is dishwasher-safe. Like all Le Creuset products, the bellpepper casserole is made in France. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Practical and Beautiful all in one!
I have collected all of Le Creuset's fruit and vegetable shaped cast iron enameled casseroles. They are beautiful to display on a table or on a kitchen counter and very practical in cooking great casseroles, soups, stews and other great dishes. The color that they can add to a kitchen brightens every vist there. The exterior and interior enamel coating is very durable and easy to clean. I have cooked a multitude of dishes in these casseroles and have found them to be excellent in heat conduction and preventing "hot spots".

The warranty against defects of 101 years will certainly last beyond my expected needs but it is nice to know that I have the protection since these are not inexpensive purchases.

The comments of guests served from these casseroles is always positive and never fails to bring a smile to my face.

There is a drawback to these whimsical cookers and that is the rim of both the top and bottom of the casseroles. There is no enamel on these rims and they can rust if not dried immediately after hand washing. They are dishwasher safe but I do recommend that you hand wash and dry immediately. I also recommend that you let them sit out for an hour or so to air dry before storing them.

When wet this casserole can be very slippery and the handles on the bottom and top help in preventing dropping them.

Finally, closely inspect your casserole when it arrives. My first garlic casserole had a two inch crack in the enamel. I did not have to contact Le Crueset since Amazon.com immediately sent a replacement to me and had the defective item picked up at my home at no charge. I commend them for standing behind the products they sell!

5-0 out of 5 stars I ADORE this little pot!
Cooking is actually a pleasure when you have tools that are as colourful and cheerful as this little pot. It is just beautiful to look at, and a joy to use. (I never thought I could get so excited about a simple pot!) This little green pepper cooks evenly, in the oven or the stovetop, and clean up is a breeze. I've use this to make casseroles for 2-4, sides for 4-6, even soups and sauces. Jambalaya is one dish particularly well-suited for this pot -- straight from simmering on the stove to the table, it's gorgeous. I'm planning to get the tomato or pumpkin next.

5-0 out of 5 stars We fell in love with the pepper pot
At first, when I bought this, I thought it wasn't going to be useful as our favorite red Creuset dutch oven. But slowly, we began to use this pepper-shaped pot as the default oatmeal or vegetable cooking pot.

The pot heats slowly and evenly, and it is especially good for soups, frozen veggies, cereals and puddings. It can go to the table as a server for a side or a soup. We leave this out on our white stove as a sort of kitchen decor, it gets used all the time.I love these Creuset pots for cooking--the enamel is healthful compared to metal or non-stick, and cleaning up is easy. Can't recommend this one enough. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

KitchenAid's Artisan stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 325 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough. This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solidly constructed and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist. This model also includes a pouring shield for guiding ingredients to their proper destination, and the bowl itself locks tight to the base. Standing about 15 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off. --Betsy Danheim

    From the Manufacturer

The Artisan mixer's strong 325-watt motor delivers the power to handle the heaviest mixtures, and mix large batches easily.

The 5-quart polished stainless steel bowl with ergonomic handle is big enough to handle large batches of heavy mixtures. Its ergonomically designed handle is contoured to fit the hand and makes lifting the bowl more comfortable.

    Unique Mixing Action

The beater spins clockwise as the shaft spins counter clockwise; moving the beater to 67 different points around the bowl. This unique mixing action creates a thorough blend of ingredients and eliminates the need to rotate the bowl.

    Multiple Speeds

10 speeds allow the user to select the right speed for the mixing job; from very high to very slow stir. It's easy to select the precise speed needed for a perfect mix.

    Versatile Accessories

The flat beater, dough hook, and the professional wire whip add to the versatility of the mixer. The flat beater is the ideal accessory for mixing normal to heavy batters. From cake mixes to firm cookie dough, the flat beater mixes quickly and thoroughly.

The dough hook mixes and kneads yeast dough, saving both time and the effort of hand-kneading. The wire whip incorporates the maximum amount of air in whipped mixtures for fluffier whipped cream and angel food cakes.

All attachments are solidly constructed, and attach easily to the stand mixer.

    Easy Clean Up

The pouring shield fits around the top of the bowl and prevents ingredient splash-out. The chute makes it convenient and easy to add ingredients.

The tilt-back mixer head allows for easy access to bowl and beaters. A lock lever holds the mixer head securely in place and the bowl fastens tightly to the base.

    Optional Attachments

Optional attachments (sold separately) complete the package to make cooking a pleasure. From citrus juicer to sausage stuffer, KitchenAid stand mixers can handle just about any job in the kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy one for your significant other!!!
I bought one as an X-mas gift for an ex-girlfriend that I have a rocky friendship with and now she cooks up good stuff for me all the time!It makes hanging out with her a lot more enjoyable, and she freaked out about the color and it gave her an excuse to deocrate her whole kitchen pink and white. If you gave one of these to your current ladyfriend I bet that you would reap the benefits multiple times a day for a very long time.

It was a very very high quality product and I will look to the KitchenAid brand first whenever I have to buy kitchenwares/appliances in the future.Great color selections, great quality, very good power.

    Would highly recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great essential for the baker in your life....you!
I love the mixer's power, capacity and ease of use. It makes even garlic mashed potatoes heavenly. I selected a black model to match my Viking kitchens without realizing the color would need more frequent cleaning. If you use this mixer every day buy a cover or another color to save time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I got this mixer about a month ago. I've wanted one for years, but always talked myself out of it (too expensive, too big, etc.) After finding a great deal here on Amazon, I finally caved in and let me say, I'm glad I did. I love this mixer! I was worried I wouldn't use it very much, since I already have a very nice bread machine (a "Zo"). I find that I'm using it all the time though. It really is like having an extra pair of hands in the kitchen. Cookie dough is so much easier. I'm also making bread with it constantly. It's just so simple to throw the ingredients in the mixer and let it do all the kneading. I've been making fresh bread and bagels every week and it's been no hassle. It handles the dough very well and stays put. It's a big heavy machine. The only problem I was having with it was I was finding it very difficult to remove the bowl to clean it after I was done mixing something. My husband suggested rubbing some vaseline on the bottom edge and that has solved the problem completely. Now I can pop the bowl off with one hand. Anyway, if you've been wanting one of these and if you like to bake at all, do youself a favor and get one. You will be amazed at how much easier it will make your life. I only wish I'd gotten one years ago! ... Read more

    Dualit 2-Slice Toaster, Mint Green

    Editorial Review

Engineered in England and hand-assembled to the last detail, the Dualit 2-slice toaster is that ideal accomplishment--a hardworking kitchen appliance with an elegant presence. Its square-yet-curvy retro shape is undeniably handsome and its structural components withstand the rigors of a high-octane kitchen. In fact, the toaster can output up to 65 slices per hour, should the entire apartment building ever depend on you for breakfast or tea.

The key to Dualit's exceptionally even browning is the toaster's system of patented ProHeat elements, a series of flat bars behind a smooth, transparent coating. The result is an efficient, durable design, suitable for everything from brioche to sandwiches. The elements are encased by a rugged, stainless-steel housing that you may not even recognize as a relative of its lightweight, plasticky peers. Each slot measures 28 mm wide and is extra deep to allow for the use of the Dualit sandwich cage (sold separately). One adjustable leg accommodates uneven surfaces and rubberized feet protect your countertop.

The Dualit toaster has manually operated functions and is designed for people who like to engage with their appliances. Operation is simple but rewarding. A rocker switch selects 1- or 2-slice toasting, and a 4-minute timer knob lets you fine-tune browning time. Instead of a pop-up function that can prematurely cool toast, the unit comes with an ejector knob that you raise when you're ready for it. For bigger households or busy kitchens, the company also makes 3- and 4-slice models. All Dualit toasters come with a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't make good toast?Oh, please...
I'm the ultimate kitchen fanatic.A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and sometime professional chef, I know and want for myself the very best products that I can find. The Dualit definitely qualifies in that category.I've used one in my home for many years. When I was burgled recently, the toaster was one of the items taken.A thief with good taste!

The poor babies who complain that they cannot make good toast with a Dualit either have defective machines (rare, but all things are possible) or they are hopelessly inept.Week after week I produce slice after slice of perfect, evenly browned toast.

The Dualit is a superbly engineered, wonderfully crafted simple machine. It does precisely what you ask it to do; nothing more, nothing less.

If you have an appreciation for genuine quality and a palate that enjoys nicely toasted bread, this is the toaster you want.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most awesome toaster
We LOVE our new Dualit toaster. It is worth the money! It does toast more evenly if you warm it up first. We've had absolutely no trouble with it.We highly recommend this toaster!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine Toaster With OneFlaw
This is a beautifully constructed and carefully assembled toaster, radiating quality. The design has many desireable features but, in my opinion, one serious shortcoming. When one pays over $200 for a toaster of bread, even one disappointment is one too many.

Simply, the toasting pocket, including the movement [depth] of the lowering device, is slightly too small. The first piece of bread I tried, a slice of Jewish rye, didn't quite fit. A half inch longer, wider and deeper would make this toaster perfect.

In particular, the width is too narrow to really warm most sandwiches, barely accomodating the two slices of bread, nevermind anything in between more than a couple slices of cheese, etc. I bought the sandwich rack but, now, I expect not to get much use from it.

But, to be fully honest, if the bread fits within [4-1/2 in x 4-1/2 in], the toast is marvelous.

This is the blender of the future. It performs all thetraditional blending tasks (crushing ice for margaritas, thinning icecream) plus it can be used like a food processor (mincing garlic, puréeing peppers). The wide jar is rounder and squatter thanold-style blenders, which makes it easier to reach in and scrape thesides (when the blender is off!). To reduce splatters of strawberrydaiquiri, the Step Start feature starts blending slowly, then picks upto the chosen speed. This blender also comes with a booklet containing75 recipes--my favorite is the Frosty Chocolate Raspberry Latt&eacute.--Dana Van Nest

5-0 out of 5 stars Superbly designed blender
I bought a red one as a Mother's Day gift, but I tried it out just to see if it was worth the price. It didn't disappoint me.
Mom has gone through cheaper blenders at the rate of one every 8 months. This one has the power as evidenced by the much heavier motor base. Jar has plenty of capacity though some fruit lumps will lodge under the blade. Stirring with a chopstick should dislodge the occasional lump. For those who complain about the worn out teeth - you're overloading the machine! Begin in the pulse mode to break up the contents into small pieces before liquifying it - this will prevent motor burnout and the stripping of the teeth. A cheaper blender would have burned out sooner!

1-0 out of 5 stars Rubber Drive Teeth Don't Last
We have had this blender foryears now.We bought it after seeing one that our friends owned. We have used it for milk shakes, smoothies, and crushing ice.Honestly, we loved it.Then the blender our friends owned died. The rubber teeth used to turn the blade disintegrated. We felt bad for them, but never thought such a fate waited for us.Today our rubber drive teeth crumbled into dust.Garbage.Very badly engineered.Don't buy one if longevity means anything to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME...what's with all these competitors' SHILL reviews?
After my Krups died (lasted 4 years) I did a ton of research before I bought this blender, and in the end the choice was just too obvious: there is no other blender in this price range with this amount of sheer power, not even close.

The KitchenAid just blows away the competition from Cuisinart to Braun to Oster to Waring. It certainly was a night and day difference from my old Krups, which took about 3 times longer to do the same work (pureeing 35 oz of bananas and oatmeal with 5 oz of soy milk and yogurt). My sister has the Cuisinart 600watt model and it was also no comparison.

So what sold me on the KitchenAid, despite all the one-star single-reviewers?(NOTE: sure sign of paid shills, aside from the anonymous ones---only one review to their entire history or all their reviews praise one brand and/or attack another brand.)

1.Weight.Simple and consistent indicator of good quality in any electronic device (including speakers, receivers, etc.) is the sheer heft and weight of the thing---I went to a local housewares shop and simply lifted each and every display model. The KitchenAid easily outweighs all the others by almost double.

2.Blade.The KitchenAid's blades are bigger, thicker, and more multi-level than the competition's.Goes through everything in a jiffy.

3.Ease of pitcher movement: very easy to put the pitcher on the machine and take it off, zero twisting---just set it straight down.

4.Nice thick glass on the pitcher.Looks like you could kill somebody with the thing!

    My dislikes:

1.Pitcher is only 40oz, my old Krups had a 50oz pitcher.

2.Plastic/rubber lid is kind of a pain to put on and take off, it's so darn tight.

3.I wish they would just have the simple flip switch controls that the VitaMix blenders have...without the VitaMix price tag, of course!

Now I have to say that I've only had this blender for about a month, but my neighbor has had his for two years and has never had the kinds of problems that many of the MYSTERY reviewers here claim, and the guy is a margarita fiend.

Hmmmm...could this just be a case of badmouthing the competition? ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Made for high-traffic areas and serious above-floor cleaning, this WindTunnel V2 bagless upright with hand tool from Hoover combines smart construction with versatile functionality. Built with a 12 amp motor, the vacuum can handle a wide range of surface types, from bare floor to deep-pile carpet. A special duct system prevents dirt from returning to the floor, and dual air path suction and side groomers deliver optimum edge cleaning. The floor nozzle has a 15-inch cleaning path for covering ground efficiently and double brush rolls to get at the dirt between carpet fibers. The vacuum is conveniently bagless and collects debris in a generously sized double-sided dirt cup. A screen between the chambers keeps large particles on one side and sends small debris and dust into the second chamber where they're trapped in the HEPA filter. When the dirt cup is full, you slide it out and empty it--a simple process thanks to the cup's sturdy handle and secure lid. The vacuum's HEPA filter can be tapped clean to extend its life, while the machine's prefilter and exhaust filter can be hand washed for repeated use.

For above-floor and spot cleaning, the vacuum's best feature is a powered hand tool that attaches to the hose and comes complete with its own rotating brush roll. Other attachments include an extension wand, a crevice wand, a dusting brush, and an upholstery tool. These are all stored onboard in side clips and a tidy front hatch. Beltless for easy maintenance, this model also includes handy extras, such as quick-release cord hooks, nonmarring wheels, a carrying handle, a 31-foot power cord, a furniture guard, and a headlight. The power switch is in the handle, and the three handle positions are controlled with a foot pedal. Hoover backs up the vacuum with a full one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Feel a little better about my Hoover now.
Like everyone else I have had trouble with clogging up it's heavy, loud and all of the brushes have had their insides torn out but today I went to replace the brushes and Hoover has put metal ends in them instead of the plastic so these should last I hope Ha!, But the sweeper has great suction and I like the bagless feature and not having belts to change . So sorry folks if these new brushes work out alright I like my Hoover Windtunnel and I will keep it!

2-0 out of 5 stars This vacuum is the bane of my existence...
ARRGGGHHH! This vacuum is Lex Luther to my Superman! We bought this a couple of years ago when this was the near the top-of-the-line vacuums offered by Hoover. Really liked it for the first couple of months, as it cleaned really well. Then the 2 side intake chutes started clogging up on a regular basis. You have to pretty much take the &%#$*%& thing apart to get to the chutes to clean them out. You can sometimes take a straightened out wire clothes hanger and insert it in the chute to try and remove some of the clog, but that doesn't always work. I'm sorry, but you shouldn't have to spend this much time on your hands and knees trying to unclog your vacuum! This has been an unbelievable source of frustration for me, and I can't wait to buy a new Dyson. I am going to load this thing in the back of my truck and take it to the bridge over the Mississippi River and hurl this thing into it. But the police will probably see me doing it and think I've done thrown a body into the river and arrest me and bring me in for questioning, so I probably won't, but it is a recurring fantasy of mine (along with dropping it from a great height and watching it fragment upon impact.)

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointing JUNK!!
Incredibly frustrating! My family has owned Hoovers for decades, and I bought this with that formerly stellar reputation in mind.I've had this for 7 months, and, being a bachelor, have used it only 4 times(I don't clean much huh?) today it sucked up a penny and rattled for not much more than 6-8 seconds before I shut it off.It now will NOT agitate whatsoever, the motor spins and grinds the gears relentlessly, even after I tore it apart, lubed the gears and outer bearings with Dry-Slide, and rest the breaker.I can spin the agitators by hand, but this 12 AMP motor can't!.What a piece of s**t!!!!! ... The perfect set to kick off a Fiestaware collection, equip a college dorm room, or pair with other Fiestaware pieces for a larger set, this four-piece place setting from Fiestaware consists of a dinner plate, salad plate, bowl, and mug. Celebrated in the 1940s, '50s, and '60s for its streamlined art deco look and colorful glazes, Fiestaware is enjoying a remarkable comeback today. All pieces in this set have the signature Fiestaware rings and match Fiestaware pieces in cinnabar or other colors such as persimmon or yellow. With over 50 Fiestaware dinnerware and accessory pieces to choose from, you can build your collection over time starting with this one-person set. The 100 percent lead-free glaze is nonporous, so it won't absorb foods, and it's durable enough to withstand the microwave and dishwasher. Some stainless-steel flatware may leave marks on the plates, but these can be easily removed with a nonabrasive cleanser. --Emily Wolf

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great set of dishes!
Hi! We love these dishes. With each bonus from each quarter, I have been treating myself to a new color of the 4-piece sets. Previously, I had a "starter" set from Target that lasted 10 years. I wanted something fun that didn't cost a fortune for 4-5 pieces. Everything else I liked cost $45-$75 per setting.

My two kiddos love to choose the color of dinnerware to eat from. When I have guests over, we serve just about anything with this set, mixing and matching colors to make it fun. I truly have people arguing over what color they are sitting down to at the table! These are reasonable, intelligent adults...hence the mixing and matching.
Interestingly enough, people (and kiddos) go for the lighter and brighter colors. I have the plum and cobalt blue, but they are rarely requested.

I have one of those plate racks over my sink, and these plates display beautifully. I get compliments every time. You'd think it was a decorating scheme instead of convenience!

The smaller sized plate is perfect for sandwiches and small portions of a regular meal. My kids love eating from them. The bowls are great for soup, ice cream, salad, pasta...you name it. They stack perfectly fine too.

I was worried about putting these dishes into the dishwasher and diminishing the beautiful colors, but that was for nothing.

Above all, my husband, who is usually tighter with money than I am is getting actively involved in ordering the colors, and getting excited about getting some of the non-essentials.

On a side note, we have already bought a tea-pot and a pitcher. His sister loved the tea-pot so much, we bought one for her birthday last year. It was one of the few things she brought with her when she moved to Europe. She has some of the original fiesta-ware that was passed down from her grandmother. These pieces are keepers, which I hope to pass on down to my children as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fire Engine Red!
This is the most gorgeous color and it goes with all the other colors of fiesta so well.. It is a perfect gift idea to start someone off with a set of Fiesta.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple & solid. The food is the art instead of the plate.
Over time, I've come to appreciate simpler, less busy-looking dishes.I like letting the food be the art instead of the plate-pattern.My parents have had the yellow Fiestaware for at least 10 years. The yellow was discontinued in 2002, but the sunflower is close--a bit deeper and brighter while the yellow is more pastel. They are solid, sturdy, not prone to chipping or cracking, and I've been told they're forgiving when dropped. My parents' dishes still look as good as new.I've never noticed any knife scratches on the plates.(FWIW Most of the reviews complaining of this seem to be in the darker colors.)Just about all food looks good on this cheerful yellow plate, which of all the Fiestaware colors, is my favorite for serving food. However a friend has a wide variety of Fiestaware colors and I also enjoy being able to mix and match, and to select dishes according to my mood. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Love these!
I'm not a big fan of single use products for the kitchen usually but I have to say that I do love these. When I first bought these (I have 2) I thought they were expensive until I remembered how much I paid for cereal...It didnt seem nearly so outrageous to pay what these cost when cereal is in excess of $4 a box.It actually makes sense to me.

Having gotten sick of throwing out ceareal that was all but limp, especially in the humid summer, because you cant seal it up...or your kids wont seal it up...I'm a happy camper now with this. And I now don't have the avalance of kids cereals falling on me when i open the cabinets...This is easy for them to close back up.Unlike the boxes, which they could never seem to manage.

If I don't happen to have any cereal in the house I have also used these for things like rice, macaroni, popcorn...anthing small and pourable with a ripping container.

I've had mine for many years with no problems.Still happy I made the purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holds up through years of use
I have three children and my cereal storers have received daily use for over 10 years now. They still function air-tight and we never have stale cereal. Highly recommended investment for those that live in humid climates.

We keep our cat's dry food in these containers. It is easier than wrestling with the 20lb bag for each feeding.

In the past, we used them for cereal, but for some reason, we eat up the cereal too fast once we open the box. When we did keep the cereal in these containers it lasted much longer and didn't go stale!

Silicone is all the rage in bakeware! This vibrant butterfly mould by Pedrini makes an adorable cake for birthdays and other occasions. Measuring 11-3/8 inches long, 8-1/2" wide, and 2-3/8 inches deep, this innovative mould is crafted from completely recyclable non-toxic silicone. The first time you use the mould, rinse it with warm water and lightly pre-grease. The mould is nonstick and does not require pre-greasing or flouring after the first use.

All Pedrini LeLillotte silicone bakeware is temperature-resistant from -40 degrees to 482 degrees F, and you can take it directly from the freezer to an electric or gas stove, or microwave. Thermal conductivity of the silicone allows quicker baking times and 20 to 30% lower temperatures than metal bakeware. In addition to snappy cleanup by hand or in the dishwasher, Pedrini moulds bend and roll for easy storage, but always return to their original shape when you're ready to bake. For the best results, place the silicone mould on a baking tray when it's in the oven. 5-0 out of 5 stars To help get you out of those sticky situations...
I purchased a Pedrini LeLillotte Butterfly Mould just over 3 weeks ago to bake my mom a cake for her birthday.I've heard of the wonders of silicone bakeware and their non-stick, non-pourous surfaces before, but I'd never actually used one personally.

I saw this butterfly mould and thought I would try it out. If you know me at all, you'd know that I am definitely no gormet pastry chef and often have to cook numerous cakes to get one that doesn't stick to the pan or over-brown, or to get one that actually cooks evenly. With this piece, I was so impressed! The cake popped right out without a fight, and was perfectly browned on the outside and moist on the inside. Within a few minutes of coming out of the oven, I could actually handle the mould without burning my fingers, and the clean-up was so easy.I just rinsed it out under the faucet for a few seconds and it looked brand new again.

To accentuate the beautiful detailing, I lightly glazed the cake instead of frosting it, and my mother couldn't stop giving me praise for her beautiful and delicious birthday treat.

This one piece of bakeware has got me hooked on many more selections of silicone cooking pieces. My husband loves the stuff too, because I'm constantly baking to try out my new Pedrini pieces, and everything comes out perfectly.I highly recommend this and all of Pedrini's pieces.

    Editorial Review

Bright and boldly colored, this espresso machine from FrancisFrancis! is for those who relish sleek, modern design in their kitchen and a cheerful color scheme. Leave it out on the counter, as it's too heavy to move around much. This machine is designed for use with prepackaged coffee pods--specifically Easy Serving Espresso (ESE) pods--or with regular ground espresso; gear for both is included.

The machine measures 10 by 12 inches overall; with its flip switches and pilot lights, the front looks like an instrument panel. A temperature gauge allows for more precise temperature control, which helps prevent the bitter brew that results from overheating. Other features include a pull-out drawer in the bottom section to house the drip grill, a removable plastic bin in the back for the water supply, a built-in cappuccino feature, and a circular wire holder on top for warming inverted coffee cups. --Marcie Bovetz

Editor's note: This item may arrive with water inside from the manufacturer's pressure test. This is a normal occurrence and doesn't point to a problem with the machine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 2001 model still going strong! Great espresso
Having worn out a Capresso machine after daily brewing 4-6 shots of espresso in making lattes/cappuccinos, etc. I went looking for a more durable machine.

I bought an X1 in 2001/2 when it was a brand new model (in stainless) and it is great:

    1. It heats up quickly.
    2. It brews VERY consistently.
    3. The ESE thing is the best mess-preventer ever.
    4. Separate steam-temperature setting is great. Heats milk much faster than other, cheaper consumer models.
    5. Machine has capacity to steam enough milk for at least 3 tall lattes before needing a quick "refill" of water from the pump switch.
    6. I like the simplicity and total manual operation. The switches aren't labeled, but there's only 3. Kind of a morning meditation for me.

    The most important, non-obvious things:

    1. Don't leave a pod in the holder and move temperature to steam setting. When you unhook the pod holder, steam will instantly blow apart the ESE pod, which, given that it is more than boiling hot, will hurt, plus will dry instantly on the wall.
    2. Use INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED ESE pods, unless you use them all within 2-3 hours of opening the tin. They sour very quickly, even in the freezer. I am partial to Starbucks pods, given my household's addiction to that brand, but I think that is more of a preference than a quality issue. Illy tastes fine, but you have to use them all quickly.
    3. If you serve a lot of guests, the double unit (X3?) might be better. With the dual-temperature settings, you'll spend a lot of time running water through the unit to cool the steam setting back down to brew the next batch of espresso. Lots of refills of the water container, which is a bit of a pain to remove from the back of the machine.

Overall, a great performer after 4 years of daily, multiple use. This thing is a great machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars GIVES YOU A PHENOMENAL ESPRESSO IF YOU HANDLE CORRECTLY
Two months ago I bought the X1 from the new serie "X1 by appointment" at the online store azone.ch. Discount price about 500 USD including a box of 18 E.S.E pods from AMICI. The inventor of the machine Francesco Illy is a "pope" of the coffee industry. He founded the "Francis Francis" Company in Switzerland. His father and grandfather are the founder of the "ILLY" coffee brand. A name for sophisticated taste of coffee. Francesco Illy started to launch his own brand "AMICI". There are actually 4 different E.S.E. pods available. My favourites are the "Espresso" (silver box with red stripe) and "Ristretto" (..with black stripe). Please check amici.ch for more information. So, that's a little bit about history and now my review: When I read the negative postings I wonder why there are some problems when using the machine or why the coffee gives some people only average joy. Here my suggestions for a real espresso experience:

Rule 1: Strictly use the E.S.E. pods....the one from AMICI or LAVAZZA I can suggest. Not try to use non-E.S.E. pods. They will not fit perfectly.

Rule 2: Buy some high quality espresso cups. If the porcelain is robust and thick it can keep and lead the warmth much better.

Rule 3: Always use pre-heatened cup. Place them on top of the coffee machine. I never turn off the machine. If you switched of the machine, wait about 20 minutes before preparing coffee.
And important: Pour one espresso cup of water before inserting any pod. This guarantees, that the cup gets his temperature and that the machine gets its operation temperature.

Rule 4: Keep your machine clean. After every use clean the pad-holder. Put it in the machine (be sure there are no pods inside) and simply pour water for about 10 seconds trough it.

Rule 5: For the ones who experienced damages, I think, they didn't threat it correctly! After using the steam YOU MUST SWITCH BACK to the espresso mode and activate the toggle switch for espresso. Simply pour water about 20 seconds. Now the boiler will not overheat and protects the machine. If you do not follow that rule your machine could be damaged seriously!

Final commentary: Those people who wants to compare the X1 with any one from Braun for about 99 USD and think the taste is the same, I must only say, that they have no concept of good coffee taste. The Francis Francis is nothing for people who confuse real espresso flavor with the over-sweeted plastic or paper taste of any Mc Donalds or Dunkin' Donuts sewage.
The first time I have seen the X1 I knew, soon or less I will purchase it. The unmistakable design didn't relinquish myself anymore. Every day walking to the kitchen, the Francis Francis X1 smiles at me. A machine to take into one's heart.

    Marcel Dubach, ZURICH

3-0 out of 5 stars Great looker, with faults. but i think it is great.
I am going t give this machine 2 stars for looks and an extra star for function this makes it a 3 star machine.I will review it to counter another review about this machine. The review was written by : Diego Frare.
1-**You can only get a perfect espresso from a professional machine and only if you use it to make dozens of coffees every day. I think the average bar in Italy makes hundreds of cups a day, and in places like some highway service areas they easily make over one thousand every day.**
a-I don't know how is this relevant
b-It is not true, If you teach yourself the art of making espresso, then you can make "great" espresso from many machines that are on the market today, but making the "perfect" espresso is a debatable for even the professional machines.
2-**The most annoying one is the lack of a pressure relief valve, so the water remains under pressure for minutes after you finish brewing your coffee, and you cannot remove the portafilter without getting coffee grounds sprayed all over. **
a-I believe the machine has a pressure valve, that does not allow the pressure to go above a certain amount (my guess 11 or 12 bar). What Diego is referring to is the absence of a 3 way pressure relief valve. This crates what is called "portafilter sneeze" which he describes.
b-The solution for that is in the same box as the machine came with. I guess you need to read the instructions to get the best out of your machine.
c-The solution is using the providedTamping / Anti "Sneeze" Gizmo, with it you car remove the Portafilter (PF) right away with no worries of any mess.
3-**. Another flaw is the finish, too prone to get scratched, at least in the black version. **
a-I have the red one, and I do not have any problems keeping it scratch free.
4-**. Also, the front panel of the plastic drip tray should have been made of stainless steel: because it's made of regular steel, you need to remove the front panel every time you wash the tray, otherwise it will rust easily. It wouldn't be too bad if it popped out and snapped back in, but you have to unscrew the knob to remove it. **
a-I am not sure which machine is Diego reviewing here. I am completely lost. What I have is a cover plate made of stainless steel (your cup would sit on there), then I have the drip tray, and it slides out like a drawer (you could detach it completely for ease of cleaning, this is the knob you see in the picture)
5-**. I closely looked at the spouts, and it's a one piece die cast unit, so I don't think it's my particular example that's bad, but it's a design flaw or a bad die cast template **
a-This is not true. The PF is cast but the spouts are screwed into the threaded part of the PF, the cause for that problem is most probably uneven tamping.
6-**if you put a fraction of a gram too much, the system will not be tight enough and water will leak from the top of the portafilter and fall into your cup.**
a-the machine comes with two baskets, one single shot and one double shot. Single is supposed to filled with 7 grams. I filled mine with 9 grams (using an accurate electronic scale [error is 0.1]) and I had no leakage at all.I guess if you go above this for the single basket (which I do not see why) you will have a problem.
7-** consistently decent espresso with a home machine ** (steps)
a-great instructions which I think everyone should use

In summery Diego might have a bad apple, and should have sent it back to the company under it's warranty. But also it might have been an older X1, the new X1's have been almost completely rebuilt as of 2004.
MY NEG for this machine are as follows:
1-Single shot basket is hard to perfect (I still have not perfected it), yet for sure you will need to put more ground coffee than what the instruction say.
2-The new boiler thermo controller is very accurate รจ it turns on and off the boiler at least 3-4 times during the process of brewing 1 shot of espresso. This is good, yet the problem is when the boiler goes on again, there seems to be a small drop in electricity to the pump that is driving the coffee through.I think this is missed thing when the company made the 110V version of their European 240V.
3-Stem wand is too short and that strong. It is hard, but you can do some micro foaming with it, but not with too deep of a pitcher.

4-The absence of a pressure gauge.

I will not go and list the PLUS things since the Negatives should be a good indicator of the quality of the machine. If you need to read more go to coffeegeek.com and check their review of this machine.

2-0 out of 5 stars It leaks!!!!
The reason you should not buy this shaker is because it doesn't do what it should (keep a tight seal).

The cocktail shaker looks very nice, I got the blue one. However, the problem is that the lid does not form a tight enough seal, so what happens is that the liquid leaks out and gets all of your hands. My remedy has been to put a kitchen towel over it while I use it (not very fun). Also, condensation has built up in between the plastic insulation and the metal tumbler. That's not really a big deal to me, but it may be to you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Almost really good...
The shaker is very good about keeping your hands from feeling the temperature of the drink as well as nice styling-- that is until you wash it in the dishwasher.I should have listened to the other reviews, it does condensate inside the shaker so you can see water droplets under whatever colored material is used to make the outside of the shaker, and the stainless steal of the inside.Of course, there is no way to seperate them to clean it.If looks matter, it shows that stainless steel is probably still the way to go if you want quality.

2-0 out of 5 stars It leaks!
This shaker has what's probably the worst design flaw that a shaker could have--it leaks. The lid fits into the cup, and does not form a tight seal. The two stars it gets are purely for form, I'd give it zero stars for function. ... Read more

Bring out the scones--the Uplift teakettle covers all the bases when it comes to making tea. Its spout opens when the nonslip, heat-resistant handle is lifted, keeping fingers and hands far away from scalding steam. The removable lid is extra wide for easy refilling and simple cleaning. Its 2-quart capacity ensures that there'll be enough tea to go around, even if you're entertaining guests from the other side of the pond. Built of sturdy metal with an enamel finish, this kettle will last through many a teatime.

The Good Grips line is recognized for its durable, nonslip, flexible handles. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handles put less tension on the hands while still providing an outstanding grip. 2-0 out of 5 stars does not whistle!
This pretty teakettle does not whistle!I believe it doesn't whistle because of the uplift handle/spout mechanism.I tried boiling water several times and each time the water boiled it did not whistle.I went to the stove and held the handle down tight - with force - and only then did it whistle....but upon letting go it stopped whistling. So - if you want it to whistle - you must stand by the stove and apply pressure to the handle so that the spout cover closes securely - and if you have to do that- then what is the point right?

2-0 out of 5 stars Rusty and Flaky!
I probably would have given this pot 5 stars when I first bought it a little over 2 years ago.I have had no trouble with the whistle or the cover, and I like the design. This pot (ebameled metal) has been used daily. After about 6 months I noticed some rust at the spout where the water comes out. This rust area has grown. Now the inside is deteriorating.Flakes of the inside coating are coming loose and it seems to be rusting a bit inside as well.I would suggest avoiding the colored versions and going for the stainless.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worthy of the Good Grips moniker
I generally love "Good Grips" kitchen utensiles, but am very disappointed with this pot. The design is not up to snuff. It's difficult to fill, usually doesn't close tight enough to whistle, and the handle gets very hot. And the lid broke after a few months of light use.

These flaws are what I'd expect if I bought a cheap kettle at a discount store, but for $50 I expect better. I've always been a fan of Oxo, but if this is any indication, they've lost their emphasis on quality and usability (and their justification for a higher price). ... Read more

The unique style of Villeroy & Boch's Boston crystal stemware equally complements an outdoor picnic or a special meal. Covered in a beveled honeycomb pattern, each glass refracts the light and adds sparkle to the table. A smooth interior contrasts with the textured exterior enhancing the distinct vintage style of the pattern.

The light dances through this set of four green crystal highball glasses and rainbows abound. Editorial Review

Ideal for stovetop cooking and for nonstick cookware, the threesilicone whisks in this set meet exacting 21st-century standards forboth appearance and performance. Together, the whisks handle mostkitchen needs. There's a 10-inch, 8-wire flat whisk for blendinggravies and sauces in shallow pans; a 10-inch, 10-wire egg whisk forbeating eggs, creams, and sauces; and a 10-inch, 16-wire piano whiskfor mixing light batters. The flat and egg whisks are lightweight withslender handles. The piano whisk has a thick handle and enough heft topower through a batter.Securely connected to round, satin-finish, stainless-steel handles, thewhisks' avocado-green, silicone-coated, stainless-steel wires areheat-resistant to 650 degrees F (345 degree C) and therefore perfectfor using on the stovetop without danger of melting in hot sauces or bytouching a burner. Because they're soft they won't harm nonstickcookware, and because they're flexible they follow the contours of abowl or pan. Moreover, they won't discolor or absorb odors, and they gosafely into the dishwasher. For convenient storage, the handles havehanging holes. --Fred Brack ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy 100% Silicone, NOT Cuisipro's 'Silicone Wrapped Wire '!
In an effort to not scratch our cookware (be it metal, ceramic, stoneware, porcelain, enamel-coated, glass, etc.) with metal wire whisks, we look for alternatives.

We try plastic whisks.Although it sounds like a good idea - because most plastics don't scratch - most plastics make lousy whisks. If they're too stiff they are hard to work with and you risk damaging your ceramic, stoneware, and enamel. If they're too flexible they don't do a good job because most flexible plastics are too flimsy. All in all, plastic whisks are not well-suited for the job but at least they don't damage our cookware as much as steel does.(Perhaps, on the other hand, you have found a good plastic whisk. In that case, please let the rest of us know which brand it is by kindly leaving a review here!Thank you!)

The answer to plastic whisks, however, is usually worse than plastic. It's called 'Silicone Wrapped Wire.'This sounds like an even better idea because silicone never scratches! In actuality, it doesn't last very long (if you cook) and soon you're scratching your cookware with steel. This brand is one of those.(Again, maybe you have found a good whisk made with 'silicone wrapped wire.'In that case, please let the rest of us know which brand it is by kindly leaving a review here!Thank you!)

But I don't leave reviews unless I leave you with GOOD NEWS!After searching and hoping and waiting FINALLY we cooks have a suitable alternative to stainless steel whisks! It's called Silicone whisks! Not to be confused with coatings of silicone, these whisks are made of pure silicone and can withstand temperatures of up to 800 degrees F.They are new on the market, and at the time of this writing, the only known brand is Le Creuset - a French company whose items are sold at Amazon.com

[This is not paid advertisement, just an exciting announcement from a fellow chef!Bon Apetit - cooking just got easier!]

1-0 out of 5 stars poor coating
I agree with a previous review, coating does not hold up. Comes off if bumped to hard.has been used gently and the metal is already showing. One thing I would like to know is, what is the highest temp this coating will tolerate.

1-0 out of 5 stars Yes good for five uses.
I am trying to find the warranty info on this product.Since this product is not inexpensive it should last longer than the maybe 5 times I used it.Even though I was careful with it the silicone is now split has exposed the metal wisk beneath. This cannot be sanitary as food can get in the crevices there & cause contamination. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Half of the glasses are defective
Four of the eight glasses have defective bottoms which are domed in shape, and therefore cannot be placed on any surface without tipping back and forth.

It occurs to me that when you buy a heavy item that costs a lot to return, you may end up keeping what is useless to you because it costs more to return it than to throw it out.

3-0 out of 5 stars I'd like to point out some details.
The color and form are what attracted me to these glasses, however they are not constructed gracefully as they appear. Fused in halves, they have seams along opposite sides that create variated corners (rounded edges vs. hard corners).

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as durable as you think
Like most people, I have a ice maker in my refrigerator. These cups cannot handle the ice falling out of the fridge into the cup.Last night one of the cups broke, and I was highly disappointed. Please be careful if you have this set and get the ice from the ice box in stead of the outside console for filling cups with ice. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best straightener ever!
This is the best hair straightener I have ever used. It heats up FAST and it straightens your hair fast. What can I say other than its the BEST!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good straightener... unless you use it for over 3 months
This straightener works pretty well -- heats up quickly and makes hair as sleek as its design. I like how it looks different from most of the other straighteners out there. The design is nice, colorful, and modern. Aesthetics may not be too high on your priorities for a straightener, but it's a good bonus. One thing I don't like -- since the straightener is so lightweight, it feels a bit cheap and unsubstantial sometimes, but that's not really a big deal. Overall, it's a good straightener and I would definitely recommend it.

*EDIT: After three months of use, this straightener just suddenly stopped working. The "on" light would be lit but the straightener would remain cold. I'm trying to get my money refunded. ... Read more

George Foreman Grilling in Hot Metals, Green
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Kitchen
    list price: $24.99

    Editorial Review

Former heavyweight boxing champ George Foreman loves his meat but not the fat, so he devised the Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine. Sleek and metallic, this electric indoor grill features sloping channels that allow grease to run off during cooking, keeping burgers, chops, and steaks lean. Nonstick plates on the heavy lid and base sear meats to seal in juices, cook both sides at once so no flipping is required, and clean up quickly. Fish and vegetables also cook well in this grill. An articulated hinge allows the lid to fit over thick foods. Measuring 9 by 5 by 8-1/2 inches, the grill takes up little counter space and stores handily. A drip tray and spatula are included. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Once you try it you will love it.Just try it!
The George Foreman grill is one of those items you see it yard sales per $10-$15 used maybe once. It's one of those items that people think is a hoax-a hack, but amazingly it's one of those items that works. The fact that you can get a brand new one for $15 is amazing. Sometimes you can even get a brand new one on Amazon for 10 that's crazy go nuts!

It is my recommendation by one of these grills and make grilled cheese. It's amazing, done in less than seven minutes, or try a frozen chicken breast from frozen to juicy and done in less than 10 minutes. Perfect for bachelors or moms with bachelors in training or moms married to bachelors. You get the point.

So give it a shot perfect in what it does. I liked it so much upgrade to a larger size (know I didn't buy the company), and I use it everyday.

And yes I do know that he has six children named George crazy go nuts

1-0 out of 5 stars The grill cooks too cool to char.
This grill (I actually own the larger size of the same), is a poor cooker.Heat off the bottom half is too cool to char (think black lines, not tan lines), and heat off the top and bottom halves helps cook your food through.

Imagine cooking a slice of bell pepper, or for that matter, a hamburger patty, on the grill. When you're done, you have light or no searing on the bottom, but your bell pepper's soft, and the hamburger patty is cooked through. You might have light searing on the top, if whatever you're cooking was thick enough to touch the top.But whether or not your food is thick enough, radiant heat from the top will cook it.

Overall, this grill is a poor choice. If you want to drain fat from your food, consider pouring the fat out of the frypan when you're done on the stove.Don't waste your money on this grill or any other. On the other hand, if you want to cook a pancake, you could probably use this grill to good effect.

5-0 out of 5 stars George even signed it himself...
There are too many great things to say about this little device: It's affordable to anybody, even if you are a student stuck living at school. It's compact, you can store it anywhere--a closet, your car, your office, the kitchen cabinet. It's powerful--I have plugged it in and in just minutes began working on an entire three course meal for six people with only this unit to work with. It's easy to clean--this is one of the few products out there that is every bit as easy to clean as the commercials show it to be on TV. It's is economical, using very little electricity to do a just that would waste electricity in a conventional oven or even an older model microwave oven. It's versatile--I have cooked everything from thin pieces of tempeh strips to thick steaks and it cooks both to perfection. You never would have been able to convince me to buy anything on TV before (and most certainly not from a former boxing champion...) but since a friend both this grill for me I have thanked them time and again (and in turn bought the same gift for many a friend of my own). ...
