Editorial Review

Zenith's P42W22B is a 42-inch widescreen plasma EDTV monitor, which means it's a step closer to high-definition (HDTV) than standard TVs. When used with a progressive-scan DVD player (or 480p-output DTV set-top box) you'll get seamless, razor-sharp images from favorite movies and concert videos. Zenith's groundbreaking display technology delivers superior image clarity, color, and brightness in a large-format television less than four inches thick.

Blowing away even the best LCD monitors in contrast (650:1 contrast ratio) and brightness (620 cd/m2), the screen offers 852 x 480p resolution that produces an extremely detailed image. RS-232 controls as well as NTSC, SD, VGA, SVGA and DVI inputs ensure the P42W22B's compatibility with DVD players, VCRs, computers, and other video sources. A plasma display also offers wider viewing angles than an LCD screen, providing considerable freedom in placing it. You can put it right between stereo loudspeakers, even if those speakers lack magnetic shielding: flat-panel screens are impervious to magnetic distortion.

Stunning features include aspect-ratio correction (intelligent resizing of video and computer images to 16:9 widescreen or conventional 4:3 aspect ratio) and Intelligent Image Scaling, which employs a Faroudja scan converter to seamlessly translate TV video data to PC formats without distortion or cropping in either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios. Vertical display mode changes the image from horizontal to vertical if you want to rotate monitor is rotated 90 degrees. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Zenith P42W22 Review
After reading the two negative reviews I felt that I had to respond in defense of the 42 inch Zenith Plasma Display.I have had mine almost a year and I am very pleased with it.Our decision to purchase a Plasma display was to remove the huge bulky tube TV (35" Toshiba Cinema Series) from the living room although we were satisfied with the picture quality and features. I chose the Zenith after viewing the competition in various stores and settled on it for the price vs. performance and features.Mine is set up with Directv, VHS, and DVD inputs and output the audio to a Denon sound system.I have not had a single problem with it so I can't comment about the service issue. The picture quality is very good for the specifications but depends on the input signal.Low bandwidth input will show some pixelization in the dark areas but a digital signal or even better DVD, is crisp and vibrant. While not true HDTV, it is EDTV but we didnt have HD available at the time. The glass has an anti reflective coating and you can view the picture from almost sideways as opposed to straight on.In summary I find the P42W22 to be a stylish, well performing plasma display at a very modest price. We enjoy it thouroughly just be sure to use the best quality signal source for the best display.

Editorial Review

Irresistibly eye-catching, the Francis Francis! X1 espresso machine is a thoroughly modern machine with classic aesthetic appeal. Created by the Italian industrial designer Luca Trazzi, the X1 is smart, good-looking, and, best of all, designed to simultaneously perfect and demystify the home espresso-brewing process.

Made from steel with a powder-coated finish, the X1 features a brass boiler and a pump-driven brewing system with 8-9 bars of dynamic pressure. The chrome-plated brass brewing handles maintain the best temperatures for coffee. The machine brews ideal shots using Easy Serving Espresso (ESE) pods or loose grounds from your favorite vendor. Two brewing handles are included--one for each method--and three interchangeable handle baskets let you pull ristretto, regular, or lungo shots. The top of the X1 features a chrome-plated guardrail to keep warming demitasses in place, and the steam wand cants outward at an optimal angle. A tamper, a coffee scoop, and a starter box of Illy Café espresso are also included.

A good choice for kitchens with roomy countertops, the X1 measures 10-1/4 inches long by 8-1/4 inches wide by 11-1/2 inches high and weighs 15 pounds. Its translucent plastic water tank is accessed from behind, and the control panel is mounted on the front for easy visibility. Like all the Francis Francis! espresso machines, the X1 is made in Italy and warranted for one year after purchase.--Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 2001 model still going strong! Great espresso
Having worn out a Capresso machine after daily brewing 4-6 shots of espresso in making lattes/cappuccinos, etc. I went looking for a more durable machine.

I bought an X1 in 2001/2 when it was a brand new model (in stainless) and it is great:

1. It heats up quickly.
2. It brews VERY consistently.
3. The ESE thing is the best mess-preventer ever.
4. Separate steam-temperature setting is great. Heats milk much faster than other, cheaper consumer models.
5. Machine has capacity to steam enough milk for at least 3 tall lattes before needing a quick "refill" of water from the pump switch.
6. I like the simplicity and total manual operation. The switches aren't labeled, but there's only 3. Kind of a morning meditation for me.

The most important, non-obvious things:

1. Don't leave a pod in the holder and move temperature to steam setting. When you unhook the pod holder, steam will instantly blow apart the ESE pod, which, given that it is more than boiling hot, will hurt, plus will dry instantly on the wall.
2. Use INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED ESE pods, unless you use them all within 2-3 hours of opening the tin. They sour very quickly, even in the freezer. I am partial to Starbucks pods, given my household's addiction to that brand, but I think that is more of a preference than a quality issue. Illy tastes fine, but you have to use them all quickly.
3. If you serve a lot of guests, the double unit (X3?) might be better. With the dual-temperature settings, you'll spend a lot of time running water through the unit to cool the steam setting back down to brew the next batch of espresso. Lots of refills of the water container, which is a bit of a pain to remove from the back of the machine.

Overall, a great performer after 4 years of daily, multiple use. This thing is a great machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars GIVES YOU A PHENOMENAL ESPRESSO IF YOU HANDLE CORRECTLY
Two months ago I bought the X1 from the new serie "X1 by appointment" at the online store azone.ch. Discount price about 500 USD including a box of 18 E.S.E pods from AMICI. The inventor of the machine Francesco Illy is a "pope" of the coffee industry. He founded the "Francis Francis" Company in Switzerland. His father and grandfather are the founder of the "ILLY" coffee brand. A name for sophisticated taste of coffee. Francesco Illy started to launch his own brand "AMICI". There are actually 4 different E.S.E. pods available. My favourites are the "Espresso" (silver box with red stripe) and "Ristretto" (..with black stripe). Please check amici.ch for more information. So, that's a little bit about history and now my review: When I read the negative postings I wonder why there are some problems when using the machine or why the coffee gives some people only average joy. Here my suggestions for a real espresso experience:

Rule 1: Strictly use the E.S.E. pods....the one from AMICI or LAVAZZA I can suggest. Not try to use non-E.S.E. pods. They will not fit perfectly.

Rule 2: Buy some high quality espresso cups. If the porcelain is robust and thick it can keep and lead the warmth much better.

Rule 3: Always use pre-heatened cup. Place them on top of the coffee machine. I never turn off the machine. If you switched of the machine, wait about 20 minutes before preparing coffee.
And important: Pour one espresso cup of water before inserting any pod. This guarantees, that the cup gets his temperature and that the machine gets its operation temperature.

Rule 4: Keep your machine clean. After every use clean the pad-holder. Put it in the machine (be sure there are no pods inside) and simply pour water for about 10 seconds trough it.

Rule 5: For the ones who experienced damages, I think, they didn't threat it correctly! After using the steam YOU MUST SWITCH BACK to the espresso mode and activate the toggle switch for espresso. Simply pour water about 20 seconds. Now the boiler will not overheat and protects the machine. If you do not follow that rule your machine could be damaged seriously!

Final commentary: Those people who wants to compare the X1 with any one from Braun for about 99 USD and think the taste is the same, I must only say, that they have no concept of good coffee taste. The Francis Francis is nothing for people who confuse real espresso flavor with the over-sweeted plastic or paper taste of any Mc Donalds or Dunkin' Donuts sewage.
The first time I have seen the X1 I knew, soon or less I will purchase it. The unmistakable design didn't relinquish myself anymore. Every day walking to the kitchen, the Francis Francis X1 smiles at me. A machine to take into one's heart.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great looker, with faults. but i think it is great.
I am going t give this machine 2 stars for looks and an extra star for function this makes it a 3 star machine.I will review it to counter another review about this machine. The review was written by : Diego Frare.
1-**You can only get a perfect espresso from a professional machine and only if you use it to make dozens of coffees every day. I think the average bar in Italy makes hundreds of cups a day, and in places like some highway service areas they easily make over one thousand every day.**
a-I don't know how is this relevant
b-It is not true, If you teach yourself the art of making espresso, then you can make "great" espresso from many machines that are on the market today, but making the "perfect" espresso is a debatable for even the professional machines.
2-**The most annoying one is the lack of a pressure relief valve, so the water remains under pressure for minutes after you finish brewing your coffee, and you cannot remove the portafilter without getting coffee grounds sprayed all over. **
a-I believe the machine has a pressure valve, that does not allow the pressure to go above a certain amount (my guess 11 or 12 bar). What Diego is referring to is the absence of a 3 way pressure relief valve. This crates what is called "portafilter sneeze" which he describes.
b-The solution for that is in the same box as the machine came with. I guess you need to read the instructions to get the best out of your machine.
c-The solution is using the providedTamping / Anti "Sneeze" Gizmo, with it you car remove the Portafilter (PF) right away with no worries of any mess.
3-**. Another flaw is the finish, too prone to get scratched, at least in the black version. **
a-I have the red one, and I do not have any problems keeping it scratch free.
4-**. Also, the front panel of the plastic drip tray should have been made of stainless steel: because it's made of regular steel, you need to remove the front panel every time you wash the tray, otherwise it will rust easily. It wouldn't be too bad if it popped out and snapped back in, but you have to unscrew the knob to remove it. **
a-I am not sure which machine is Diego reviewing here. I am completely lost. What I have is a cover plate made of stainless steel (your cup would sit on there), then I have the drip tray, and it slides out like a drawer (you could detach it completely for ease of cleaning, this is the knob you see in the picture)
5-**. I closely looked at the spouts, and it's a one piece die cast unit, so I don't think it's my particular example that's bad, but it's a design flaw or a bad die cast template **
a-This is not true. The PF is cast but the spouts are screwed into the threaded part of the PF, the cause for that problem is most probably uneven tamping.
6-**if you put a fraction of a gram too much, the system will not be tight enough and water will leak from the top of the portafilter and fall into your cup.**
a-the machine comes with two baskets, one single shot and one double shot. Single is supposed to filled with 7 grams. I filled mine with 9 grams (using an accurate electronic scale [error is 0.1]) and I had no leakage at all.I guess if you go above this for the single basket (which I do not see why) you will have a problem.
7-** consistently decent espresso with a home machine ** (steps)
a-great instructions which I think everyone should use

In summery Diego might have a bad apple, and should have sent it back to the company under it's warranty. But also it might have been an older X1, the new X1's have been almost completely rebuilt as of 2004.
MY NEG for this machine are as follows:
1-Single shot basket is hard to perfect (I still have not perfected it), yet for sure you will need to put more ground coffee than what the instruction say.
2-The new boiler thermo controller is very accurate รจ it turns on and off the boiler at least 3-4 times during the process of brewing 1 shot of espresso. This is good, yet the problem is when the boiler goes on again, there seems to be a small drop in electricity to the pump that is driving the coffee through.I think this is missed thing when the company made the 110V version of their European 240V.
3-Stem wand is too short and that strong. It is hard, but you can do some micro foaming with it, but not with too deep of a pitcher.

4-The absence of a pressure gauge.

I will not go and list the PLUS things since the Negatives should be a good indicator of the quality of the machine. If you need to read more go to coffeegeek.com and check their review of this machine.

Get a nutritious start to your day with fresh tomato, carrot, apple, or orange juice--or invent your own healthy blend. This powerful (and some would say noisy) 600-watt juicer churns out a quart of juice in just one minute. An extra-wide feed tube saves chopping time since it accommodates whole tomatoes, carrots, and small apples, and the removable parts make this one of the fastest juicers to clean. To operate, simply turn the juicer on and insert washed whole or chopped fruits and vegetables through the feed tube--pulp and seeds will shoot out one side into the provided pulp container, and juice will pour out the spout. To catch the juice, you can use either a glass or a provided juice container with lid. The juice container features a handy divider to separate the juice from the froth when pouring. Weighing thirteen pounds, the juice extractor measures 15 by 6-1/2 by 16 inches and comes with a one-year warranty. A helpful instruction booklet that includes tips and recipes is included to get you started. --Ann Bieri

From the Manufacturer

Changing the World, One Apple at a Time…

Unrivalled power meets highest quality components and revolutionary design in this life changing appliance. Touted as North America’s fastest juicer, after being timed making an 8-ounce glass of juice in an astonishing 5 seconds, the world’s fastest juicer might be a more apt description.Designed by innovative, world-renowned engineer Keith Hensel in 1999, the Breville Juice Fountain was the world’s first domestic juicer to accept whole fruit and vegetables with no chopping, peeling, slicing, or dicing.

Named for its ability to produce literally a fountain of continuous juice, where other juicers generate a mere trickle, the JE900 Juice Fountain has seriously changed the way the world looks at juice. Where traditional juice extractors require time consuming preparation, feeding, and cleaning, the Juice Fountain completes the whole home juicing experience in less time than it takes to brew a cup of coffee. The Juice Fountain’s ability to juice whole fruit, to reduce juicing time by up to 90%, and to yield up to 30% more juice, stems from a combination of innovations. Even its unofficial tagline as "a juice bar in your own home" doesn’t do justice to just how fast and convenient the machine is.Thousands of families from Australia to Japan and everywhere in between enjoy fresh, healthy juice every day thanks to the Breville JE900 Juice Fountain.

Amazing Innovations

600-Watt Centered Motor

The Juice Fountain’s motor is positioned directly under the drive shaft so no power is lost in electrical transition or resistance. At 600 watts, the motor is one of the most powerful domestic juicers available, and its centered location directly over the drive shaft means a true 600 watts of power is delivered to the cutter and filter. The higher wattage not only delivers faster and more efficient juicing, it’s also powerful enough to juice regularly without significant stress on the motor.

Patented Center Knife Blade Cutter Assembly

The Juice Fountain is the world’s only large feed tube juicer to feature a centered feed tube and knife blade cutter assembly. Other juicers receive fruit and vegetables toward the circumference of the cutter-blade putting uneven pressure on the cutter and filter. As a result, it is not possible to balance the cutting assembly to attain sufficient speed for optimum juicing. The patented Juice Fountain design accepts fruit directly on to the center of the cutting assembly where a small, dual-bladed Italian made knife shreds the pulp into tiny particles and pushes it against the filter.

Over 14,000 RPMs!

The unique centered cutter assembly, together with the 600 watt motor, allows the Juice Fountain to deliver unparalleled speed to the filter. The Juice Fountain’s Italian micro-mesh filter spins at an incredible 14,500 revolutions per minute. The greater the revolutions, the faster the fruit can be juiced, and the greater the pressure on the pulp against the filter. Breville’s lightning speed filter ‘G-forces’ the maximum amount of juice from the pulp and makes an 8-ounce glass of juice in as little as 5 seconds (tested using apples). The 14,500 rpms of the Juice Fountain compares to about 5,000 rpms on most other juicers.

Italian-Made Stainless Steel Micro Mesh Cutter and Filter

Italian engineering is renowned for its uncompromising quality and eye for detail. The Juice Fountain’s micromesh filter is no exception. Comparing this to other filters it is easy to see that the engineering differences are significant. The filter holes on the Breville filter are so tiny that the individual holes can’t be detected with the naked eye yet the screen is see-through. The thousands and thousands of tiny, micro-mesh holes maximize the juicing surface area to squeeze every last drop of juice from the pulp.Because the holes are so small, they effectively block any seeds, pulp, or rind to deliver nothing but fresh, delicious juice.

3-Inch Wide Feed Tube

The Juice Fountain features the largest circular feed tube of all juicers in America. The unique rounded shape allows for easy insertion of whole apples, pears, tomatoes, peeled oranges, even handfuls of carrots at a time. Where other juicers take several minutes of chopping, peeling, slicing, and dicing, the Breville is large enough and powerful enough to accept whole fruit. This revolutionary design reduces juicing time by up to 90%, making the Juice Fountain a practical way to get natural nutrients and vitamins for the whole family each and every day.

Extra Large Pulp Container

The extra large pulp container is designed to fit a standard plastic grocery bag to capture all the pulp for no-fuss clean up. Because the pulp is exceptionally dry with the Breville Juicer, and the pulp container is so large, it is practical to juice continually for several minutes before the pulp container needs to be emptied. For those that don’t want to waste the pulp, the Juice Fountain’s free instruction manual has delicious recipes for muffins and cakes using the pulp.

Smooth Rounded Dishwasher Safe Parts

Easy cleaning was at the top of the priority list for the Breville design team when engineering the Juice Fountain. Having tested dozens of juicers and spoken to thousands of consumers, the overwhelming response was that juice extractors are just too difficult to clean. The Breville Juice Fountain is a delightful contrast. Not only is the pulp container designed to insert a grocery bag to capture the pulp, but there are only three other parts that require cleaning. All of them are top-shelf dishwasher safe and feature smooth, rounded surfaces that rinse easily under the tap. Even washing by hand takes only seconds as pulp residue slides right off the smooth surfaces. The Juice Fountain comes with a bonus cleaning brush designed to slide effortlessly around the micro-mesh cutter and filter making cleaning a breeze.

Bonus Juice Pitcher with Froth Separator

The Juice Fountain comes with a bonus 1-quart juice pitcher. Like the machine itself, the pitcher is cleverly designed with an adjustable froth separator. Some juice recipes produce a froth residue at the top of the juice and while some consumers enjoy the froth, others would rather drink their juice without it.The easy slide froth separator allows the user to have as little or as much froth as they desire. The bonus pitcher also comes with an air tight lid to store left over juice in the fridge.

The Breville Story

Breville’s first electrical appliance rolled off the factory line in 1932. Over 70 years, and 30 million satisfied customers later, they’re still one of the world’s most innovative name in kitchen electrics. From the world’s first scissor action sandwich maker, to the world’s first juicer to juice whole fruit, Breville continues to bring clever ideas to life. Their renowned design team ensures that every Breville product makes life simpler, works smarter, and looks better, than any other appliance on Earth. Despite Breville’s global success, they only entered the U.S. market in January 2003 and are quickly becoming one of the fastest growing brands in the country. Breville have a proud history of innovation and an uncompromising vision to bring more great ideas to life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Juicer
For the money you absolutely cannot go wrong with this product. This thing juices quickly and efficiently and the unit breaks down in a logical sequence for cleaning. This is actually the easiest to clean juicer I have ever used. Almost all of the components are dishwasher safe, but I have found it just as easy to rinse and wash in the sink. 5 minutes tops from start to finish for cleaning by hand. This unit says it can juice "Whole apples" and I'm certain that it can if you can find apples small enough. Why bother? I just knife them in half or quarter them and toss them in like that. No problem. I have made the most wonderful juices using this machine. I count myself as a total convert. Unless you need a gigantic commercial sized motor (running a juice store, juice for a summer Boy Scout camp, etc) then this is really the juicer to use. I caught this on sale and spent right at $100 and I think it is money well spent. A highly recommend product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected!
I never had really considered getting a juicer, but saw a great sale on this was at Amazon, so figured what the heck? I love fruit and frequently drink store-bought stuff so thought I'd give it a try. And I must say, this machine is awesome! It's a piece of cake to use, cleans up fairly quickly and really produces a pretty good amount of juice that is totally pulp free. I love trying different combinations and it all just tastes great! My only gripe is that citrus has to be peeled first which is kind of a pain, but a minor one. This is a fairly sizeable machine and fairly heavy, so do make sure you have space for it. It makes a good amount of noise when running and definitely would not be safe for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars King of the Juicers
After only 3 months the Juiceman Junior blade tray warped...so it was time to invest in a real juicer. This one came highly rated from a juice bar intown and we are more than satisfied. This juicer is built solid, extracts a good amount of juice and cleans up 3 to 4 times quicker than the Juiceman Junior. It comes with a brush to quickly clean the blades and the unit is so self contained that most of the time you can spray it off with a kitchen sink dish sprayer. Editorial Review

Kay Home Products' outdoor fireplace makes it possible to enjoya roaring fire outside without having to worry about digging a pit oraccidentally lighting the lawn on fire. The fireplace is good-sized,measuring 56 inches tall by 27 inches in diameter, and features aheavy-duty log grate for burning wood, charcoal, and artificial logs. The grate rests in a sturdy steel fire bow, which helps to ensure thatthe fire stays where it's supposed to be. There's also a fine-meshscreen that covers the fireplace's top and chimney, to keep hot sparksand ashes from escaping. The fireplace has 19-by-16-1/2-inch doors oneither side, and the doors have twist latches and cool wire formhandles that make adding wood a simple procedure. In addition, the11-1/2-by-24-1/2-by-1-3/4-inch ash drawer is very easy to clean.

This fireplace is definitely for outdoor use only, and should only beoperated in a well-ventilated area, at least 36 inches from anybuildings. It comes unassembled, but has very clear instructions, though the assembly will go much easier if two people are workingtogether. The fireplace is constructed of double-baked,porcelain-coated steel and comes with a cooking grid. --A.J.Rathbun ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The Propane ones are better!
At the same price, the Coleman Gas Hearth is the one to get. I have friends that have had big problems with the wood burning units from a health and safety standpoint and have also had their neighbors complain about the smoke. Thanks to their experiences, I will be buying the gas unit instead. Another plus is that there is no cleanup necessary with gas. The wood ones are a mess to clean up!

My husband and I have always wanted a fireplace....... We ordered this and recieved it with no problems. It stands approx. 5 ft. tall and needs to be put together. It only took a few minutes to assemble and we've gone out to the patio for quite a few relaxing fires already. It shows no signs of wear, even after a few real blazing fires. We love it........Our neighbors have even commented on how nice it smells outside at night. We enjoy it very much and plan to make good use out of it. It is very relaxing. We both recommend this product highly. We've had this product for over a month now and have made countless fires in it. There has been no peeling of paint or warping of any kind. It is in mint condition. We do plan to cover it, during the colder months, but we are well pleased with our purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars WELL WORTH THE MONEY
This machine is heaven sent. I bought mine almost 5 years ago and it still works PERFECTLY. I have a family of 4 and use my machine on average 2 - 3 times a week. It makes the BEST chicken I have ever had, perfectly moist and juicy every time. You WILL NOT be disappointed...

4-0 out of 5 stars You will use it
Simple to use, and good results.Negative aspect is that it is a space hog and the impaling rods are sharp. Not a good gift for the eldery. It takes finese and some strength to load a leg of lamb or chicken on the sharp daggars.Caution needed.
However easy to clean, the spit does well in the dishwasher.
You need to grease the pivot points w/ oil each time you use (I use olive oil).Otherwise it will make and odd sound like whale noises.
The unit does get hot, which is the point, avoid over hung cabinets or placing it in reach of children.
I have always covered the drip pan w/ aluminum foil, and after a year the pan is still like new.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love my set it!
I had one of these in the larger size and then when I moved I left it behind :( So when I decided I couldn't live without it I decided to get the JR since I was just cooking for one. I love how easy and foolproof it is but I have noticed it has quite the obnoxious squeaking sound if its holding say a large 5lb or more chicken. The squeaking is annoying but its ok because this takes all the guesswork out of cooking meats and they are ALWAYS so juicy and flavorful :-) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Why not ZCC-10?
The new model that came out in March 2005 as another poster wrote is the ZCC-10.I am ready to buy this rice cooker, but I want the new model, not the one that is being replaced.I did a search on Amazon and the new model is not listed. As soon as the new model is listed on Amazon I will purchase it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Michael Tyler (Canton, Ga.)
This item is not worth the money. It takes between 80 and 120 minutes to cook brown rice.My $49.00 Sunbeam steamer that I purchased 5 years ago cooks rice much better than the Zojirushi.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes great rice
This little cooker is the perfect cooking-for-two size.I have had it for several weeks now and have found it to be reliable in producing excellent rice. Am just starting to experiment with using broth, dried mushrooms, etc.My husband's only complaint is that it DOESN'T burn the rice on the bottom like our old (extremely cheap) cooker - he reallly liked that burned part apparently!

This is an expensive cooker but I like it.It seems very well made. The pan is as non-stick as I have ever seen.

I like the little song that it plays when you press the "cook" button too! ... Read more

This 1,235-watt countertop oven makes pizza in about half the time required by a conventional oven. You don't need to preheat it--it begins rotating and baking the moment you plug it in. There are independently controlled top and bottom heating elements, so all types (frozen or fresh) and sizes (7 to 12 inches) of pizza can be custom baked. With a rising-crust pizza, for example, you should run the lower heating element for 10-12 minutes before turning on the top element. For a crisper crust, bake the pizza with both heating elements, then finish it off with a few minutes of bottom-only heating. For extra cooking time on your toppings, leave the top element on a little longer. A timer with automatic shutoff lets you set cooking times precisely, and a cooking-time guide for various pizza types is printed on the pizza maker. For safety, the appliance shuts off automatically if it overheats. With the 13-1/4-inch-diameter baking pan in place, the pizza maker is 13-1/4 inches wide, 9-1/2 inches high, and 17-1/2 inches deep. (The baking pan can be removed for more compact storage.) It carries a two-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!
Our family has been using one of these to cook frozen pizzas at home for at least a year or two now, and we love it. It is fast and it does a great job, just like it's suppose to.

I'm about to buy another one to keep on our sailboat so we can cook pizza while we're tied up to the dock (and on shore power). The unit is small to begin with and it disassembles into two parts (the heating unit and the pan), so it should be easy to store in the limited space we have. It should also keep the cabin a lot cooler than an oven would (if we even had an oven on board).

If they were less expensive I'd buy a third one to use at my office. When I bought my original one I thought I only paid about $40-$45.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product for Pizza Lovers
I just purchased a Presto Pizzazz Pizza "oven" because my regular oven isn't working. So rather than do the logical thing and get my oven fixed I decided to buy even more gadgetry for my home.

I love my pizza and my pizza loves me - so I was anxious to try the Pizzazz. The Pizzazz claims to cook Pizza from start to finish in less time than it takes for most conventional ovens to pre-heat. I decided to see how true this claim really is so I brought out my Pizzazz and cooked away. I cooked a frozen regular crust Tombstone Pizza in 17 minutes from start to finish. That isn't bad considering it use to take my working oven over 12 to 15 minutes to pre-heat! Now that it doesn't work correctly it takes about 2 hours to reach 400 degrees and it sometimes smokes.

I have cooked two pizzas on the machine so far. The pizza cooking quality is great. It browns the cheese and crisp the crust perfectly. I would recommend this product to anyone who is a big pizza eater like me. I don't like the name though, it's a bit stupid. I would change the name to the Presto Pizza Producer X (aka PPPX).

This is just an initial report; I plan to write a follow-up later. I may change my mind when I cook a pizza made from scratch or a rising dough pizza or if it burns my house down. It says not to cook anything but Pizza on the machine due to fire risk. I plan to cook fish sticks on the Pizzazz this coming week.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun, fast way to make delicious pizza
This thing is great!

It makes delicious pizza, right before one's eyes, in a time that compares favorably with use of an oven. And cleanup is easy.

There are three small things I need to knock it for:

The first is my own problem, which I am sure I can handle. So far, I have not been able to get extremely crispy crusts from it, no matter how thin I've made the dough.I'll just keep playing with the settings, something the instructions encourage.

The second is that the pan can only make pizzas 12 inches and smaller. For a family, this is not big enough, so I have to make multiple pizzas for one meal. It's too bad the Presto engineers couldn't have figured out a way to make a larger pan, maybe 15-18 inches in size.

The third is that the pan's spindle protrudes beneath its base.I can't believe the engineers designed it like this.Had the spindle been shorter (or the base higher), it would have been a lot easier to put the pan on a flat counter and prepare the pizza on it.My workaround is to put the pan on the corner of my sink when pinching the crust and applying the toppings.Gets the job done, but awkwardly.A better pan design, or a stand for the pan, would be a massive improvement.

The pizza this thing makes is delicious.I have been making homemade pizza for 20 years, using cookie sheets, metal and glass pans, and pizza stones, and this product yields the best-tasting results I've ever gotten. It's incredibly fun, even for adults, to smell and watch as the raw pizza cooks before your eyes!

Anyone buying this for themselves will be delighted.Anyone buying this for a gift will receive a big thank you once it's used.I hope that the brains at Presto will resolve the two design issues mentioned above.Doing so would easily elevate this product to five stars in my book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ice Cold Tab Cola Next to my bed!
I first bought the pepsi "vending machine" cooler from JCP.com but took it back because it was extremely noisy. Then I discovered the Maytag Skybox.I bought the platinum one with stand and Dallas Cowboys panels. I paid for 2-day shipping and it shipped the next day. HOWEVER, Amazon only sent the stand and panels 2nd day.The machine arrived 9 days later. Amazon gave me a shipping refund.

The skybox arrived with the top panel of the machine cracked. The stand was missing 2 bolts and 2 nuts. I emailed Maytag and they shipped out a new top and replacement bolts immediately.I should recieve them soon.

I placed the Skybox immediately next to the bed so I can grab a "Tab Cola" anytime I want without leaving the bed. I was concerned that it would be too noisy.I plugged it in and heard nothing.I had to open the machine to make sure it was on.It was on!This machine is so quiet that placing it next to the bed is no problem at all! This is the perfect machine for the bedroom if your wife will let you place it there.

Of course Tab beverage cards are not available so I will have to make my own. I'll just print the logo on photo paper, cut it to size and place it in the selection buttons (yes, all four selections will be TAB).

It looks cool. Its quiet. Its a maytag so it is easily serviced. The drinks are way cold. You wont be disappointed once you have it in place. The only problem is dealing with shipping damage, missing bolts, and Amazon shipping it out UPS ground instead of second day. Maytag was fast to ship out replacements parts and the customer service lady was friendly and helpful. So all in all it has been worth the hassle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too Cool
I have read the reviews and was a little nervous to buy it but said what the hell.I love it.The base is VERY easy to put together and is a must have to make the machine look like a real vendor. Also there are instructions included and my advice is, read them and follow them.I would bet a lot of people who talk about jamming problems didn't read the loading instructions which tell you to unplug the machine before loading. Also I plugged mine in and in a matter of minutes I could feel it cooling off the inside.I would buy this vendor again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Constant repairs
This has to be the worst product that Maytag has released.Items Jam too much, takes 4 months for maytag to repair products.Doesn't cool and sucksup electricity. The 1 year warranty is nice but the unit will need an extended warranty because it will be in the shop 75% of the time you own it. ... For a quick and easy meal, this festive red machine fires up quesadillas filled with grilled veggies, barbecued chicken, or just plain old cheese in under five minutes. The cooking plates fit tortillas that are up to 12 inches in diameter and divide your quesadilla into six manageable sections during pressing. A power light illuminates when the unit is plugged in and a ready light lets you know when your quesadilla is done. The metal cooking plates are coated with nonstick Teflon so quesadillas lift easily out of the maker and cleanup is even quicker than cooking time. The maker also has a built-in drip tray that catches stray bits of melted cheese and filling ingredients. The quesadilla maker's handle stays cool to the touch for safe handling, and the whole unit locks together for compact, upright storage. The Santa Fe quesadilla maker comes with its own recipe book and is covered by a one-year limited manufacturer's warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I really do enjoy my quesadilla maker
Since I found it marked down at 10 percent at a local drugstore. I have been having a blast making these quesadillas with this. I have made them before in the past using various other gadgets but found this to be the ideal way to make them. Before I'd get them on my grill griddle the fillings would fall out. same withmy george foreman grill. This happens to be the easiest way and most fun way to make those. So far I have made plain cheese ones and Pizza quesadillas. I just love this and I know most will too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Quesadillas! Love it!
This is a terrific appliance!7 minute Quesadillas!I sprayed a little Pam, plugged in this machine, put some Perdue shortcuts chicken in my mini chopper, put the chicken and pre shredded Mexican cheese on a tortilla, put a tortilla on the top, put it in this machine and closed the top. While it was cooking I put some sour cream and salsa on a dish and 5 minutes later I had delicious quesadillas!Nothing stuck to the nonstick finish, just wipe it with a wet paper towel (after it cools) and you're done.Nothing oozed out, no drips at all, and if you over fill and it oozes there is a drip tray for the front and a built in drip area around the rim.It is much better than I expected.I bought it at Bed, Bath and Beyond and in addition to the manual/recipe book it also came with a cookbook, I can't wait to try more recipes. And, you can store it upright so it saves cabinet space. It will pay for itself in 2 quesadillas, plus you can enjoy them at home.Highly recommended!

1-0 out of 5 stars A nightmare to clean
I was so excited when I first got the quesadilla maker, but it was a different story after I used it...The cheese simply dripped all around the quesadilla maker, not only onto my countertop, which made a real mess, but mostly between the bottom heating plate and the plastic base of the appliance. It literally takes me half an hour to clean it up every time, and that's because I give up (you simply can't get the cheese out of this narrow space, since the heating plate doesn't come out).I tried it several times, placing aluminum foil between the countertop and the appliance to make cleaning easier, but there's nothing to be done about cleaning the quesadilla maker itself. So I finally gave up and made quesadillas with my good old pan, it was a breeze - to make them and to clean up!And the quesadillas are just as good.If I were you, I wouldn't get this product. It looks cool, but that's about it. ... Panasonic NC-ER30NW 3.2-Quart Electric Thermo Pot
Kitchen
list price: $139.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

This electric thermo pot boils and dispenses up to 3.2 quarts of water for serving tea to a crowd. The pot’s interior container has a nonstick carbon-finished coating that specifically draws out the taste, color, and aroma of tea. This thermo pot automatically boils a full container of water in 25 minutes when plugged in. However, it is equipped with a microcomputer for more automated and electricity-reducing operation and can be set to start boiling either 6 or 10 hours later as well. A "keep warm" mode automatically kicks in after boiling and holds water at temperatures of 140 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 to 4 minutes (ideal for coffee, tea, or noodles)or 208 degrees F for 13 to 14 minutes (ideal for baby formula). For tap water that is high in chlorination, the pot has the option of setting a longer boil, which reduces the taste and amount of chlorine in the water. Hot water is safely dispensed through a spout on the front of the unit at the touch of a button. For safety, a locking lid ensures that boiling water won’t spill if the pot is accidentally knocked over and the plastic exterior is cool to the touch to further reduce the chance of burns. Other features on this unit include an easy-to-read water level indicator on the front, a rotating base, and a plastic carrying handle. The thermo pot is covered by a limited warranty under Panasonic for 1 year after the date of purchase. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

Cooper Cooler Rapid Beverage Chilling Appliance

Invented at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, this rapid beverage chiller is billed as the fastest way to cool canned or bottled drinks. The Cooper Cooler is able to accommodate containers of all sizes, from wine bottles to soda cans to plastic juice bottles and is said to chill wine 20 times faster and soda cans 90 times faster than the refrigerator. An easy-to-use touchpad lets you set the cooler to preset chilling times for bottles, cans, or wine and has an "Extra" button for folks who want drinks chilled to ice cold (34 degrees F). Also the fastest way to warm beverages, this appliance is great for heating baby bottles evenly without destroying any nutrients or warming red wine bottles that have been stored at cellar temperature.

Our tests on a bottle of warm sparkling cider produced a cooled-down beverage in a brisk 3-1/2 minutes. Drinks rotate as they chill for a more consistent temperature but shouldn’t jog or explode carbonated beverages. However, contrary to the Cooper Cooler’s claims, our bottle did fizz over when we opened the cap. Choosing the "No Spin" option on the touchpad will ensure that carbonated beverages aren’t overshaken. The Cooper Cooler is great for parties or for use in an office kitchen, RV, or boat and is covered by a 1-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wow
I wanted a mountain dew one day but it wasn't cold enough.I pull out my cooler and WOW it cooled it off. My husband wanted a Pepsi one day but it wasn't cold enough.I pull out my cooler and WOW it cooled his Pepsi. Wow this thing is amazing.I would just sit there staring at it in amazement. WOW!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT
There were so many different Cooper Cooler systems, and none directly reflected the one I bought (although all were more expensive) that I chose this to review as it had the most comments, and looked like the one I bought (at Costco - where everything is inexpensive).

One review that I read said that the editorial failed to mention adding ice cubes to the unit. Uh, HELLO? How in the world do you expect a bottle of wine to get to ice cold temperatures without adding ice? There is no product on the market today (sadly) that will "freeze" an object. We have millions of microwaves, will heat objects, but nothing that will automatically, and without ice, "freeze" an object. Whomever thought that was a possibility perhaps was suffering from a mild aneurysm. OF COURSE YOU NEED ICE.

Upon adding the ice, as is detailed in the directions, you get a perfectly chilled can of soda or bottle of wine (which are the only reasons I use the unit). If you want the bottle of wine to be refrigator cold, you set it a certain setting; if you want it to be freezer cold, you set it to "extra". Okay, there might be two degrees different between each result, but would you rather have your bottle of wine sitting in the refrigerator for god knows how long, or your bottle of wine in the freezer (where it can get too cold and the wine can bruise), or do it very simply with this item - where the wine, although spinning, doesn't bruise?

Any simpleton would realize that using this product is the way to go. IT WORKS. Exactly as advertised. If you use it wrong, or if it doesn't work for you, then you need to reread the instructions. They're written in language that third graders can understand, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

One other thing: cans of soda, or beer, don't suffer here. If you open a can after having it intensely rotated for a minute or two, it won't explode in your face. That's worth the price of admission alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!!
This thing is amazing. It saves me so much space in the fridge. The only thing I hate is when I put wine bottles in it.Often I forget to write down what wines I have. When I forget to put the cooler on no spin it kills the labels. However this is entiresly my fault.I would tell anyone to buy this cooler. ... Read more

iRobot Roomba Intelligent Floorvac Robotic Vacuum
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $199.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Early Adopters Pick: March 2003. The first automatic vacuum available in the U.S.; introduced by iRobot, pioneers of artificial intelligence.

Roomba, the first automatic vacuum available in the U.S., is an intelligent vacuum that uses robotic technology to deliver both clean floors and personal time. Roomba uses artificial intelligence algorithms to clean efficiently and was introduced by iRobot, pioneers in artificial intelligence who have built numerous products for the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. military, and toy and energy companies. Thirteen inches in diameter and lighter than your average bowling ball, this innovative vacuum roams the room devouring dust, dirt, and tidbits left behind from everyday living.

Setting up your Roomba for its first sashay through the living room is fairly easy. You'll want to move any clothing, papers, cords, and fragile items off the floor before you start. You may choose to set up the Virtual Wall unit, which emits a beam to redirect the Roomba, keeping it out of unwanted areas. Make sure the rechargeable battery is fired up by checking the indicator light, set the Roomba in the center of the room, and press the corresponding button for a small (10 by 12 feet), medium (14 by 16 feet), or large (15 by 20 feet) room. When Roomba starts cleaning, it travels around the floor in a spiral pattern. When its bumper touches a wall, Roomba follows the wall for a short time, utilizing its spinning side brush to move objects away from the wall and into the vacuum's path. Then Roomba crosses the room in straight lines. It repeats this pattern until its cleaning time has elapsed, providing maximum cleaning coverage.

Although it may look more like a Frisbee than a vacuum, the Roomba cleans carpet, wood, linoleum, and tile, and comes with many of the usual vacuum accoutrements. The agitator brush roll picks up large debris, sucking it into the removable particle bin with filter. An edge-cleaning brush helps get into corners and angular areas. All the brushes and compartments can be removed for regular cleaning maintenance, and the unit comes with two replacement filters. Additional Virtual Wall units, battery packs, and a rapid charger can be purchased separately. The Roomba is covered by a 90-day parts and labor warranty. --Rhonda Langdon ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A wish that didn't come true.
During an info-mercial I was sold on Roomba as I watched it pick up piles of dirt, hard candies, and even little tacks. After seeing the price on T.V. I went to the Amazon site and found a "great deal".

Five weeks later my "great deal" was in the garbage because it was easier than dealing with the companies customer service. It never worked like they showed. On carpet it picked up surface dust only, on wood it only pushed the dirt around with the little revolving broom (which broke after the first 2 weeks), and despite the companies claims it does get stuck in corners alot. (And I'm not rearranging my furniture for Roombas convenience.) When you empty the dirt collecter be prepared for bacteria and skin molecules to go up your nose.

I gave it one star for keeping my dog entertained.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hated it
I thought the roomba would be a great investment for me because I hate sweeping our tile floors almost everyday.

Well, the first roomba I got had to be sent in for work after 6 months, it stopped picking up.

They sent me a new one, which died after three months, it would just sit there and spin in a small circle.

So they sent me another one...this one lasted two months before the battery would no longer charge, not to mention, the virtual wall they sent me with the this one wouldn't even work.

Very expensive piece of trash if you ask me. I will wait until some other company creates a better product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Turn it on, run an errand, come back, it's done.
Roomba doesn't replace a good vacuuming by hand with a more powerful model but for quick pick-ups this is awesome.
Roomba can get tangled on stuff on the floor. It doesn't have anyone "pushing" it so it has to have a clear floor before you start. That said, I love this thing.I turn it on before I go out to run an errand come back and the floor is swept/vacuumed.Get it right back on the recharger when you're finished.Clean it carefully over the trash, don't expect it to replace your "Miele" and you're good to go.
