    Norpro 10-1/2-Inch Copper Mixing Bowl
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars
    Kitchen
    list price: $28.99

    Editorial Review

For about three centuries cooks have known what scientists have yet to explain: whipping egg whites in an unlined copper bowl results in a creamier, more stable foam that's less susceptible to being overbeaten and dry. For making meringues, the traditional Italian dessert zabaglione, or other dishes that require whipped egg whites, this big bowl is unsurpassed. The bowl is 10-1/2 inches in diameter, stands 5 inches high, and has a traditional brass loop handle so it can be hung flat against a wall. This beautiful bowl could also be filled with fruit and displayed on a counter or table. Norpro also offers a 9-inch copper mixing bowl. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beauty and Function
Copper can't be beat when it comes to beating egg whites. When I opened the box and saw my new copper bowl I was amazed at the size and quality for the low price, but there it was staring me in the face! This is a gorgeous bowl even if all you do is hang it in your kitchen for decoration. It has a large ring attached near the rim so any size hook will be accommodated.

The bowl is a wonderful size for handling...not too big, not too little and just right in weight. It has a 10.5 inch diameter and is approximately 4.5 inches deep.Even with this size, a little person like me (under 5 feet tall) can easily hold the bowl with my arm around it while mixing or beating with the other hand.

BUY THIS BOWL...in fact, buy more than one, especially if you bake a lot and love the look and performance of copper. You won't be sorry. You will be getting a big bang for your buck.

HELPFUL HINT TO NOVICES:In order to get the perfect texture of beaten egg whites, it is essential for the bowl to be VERY clean.I learned from an award-winning chef that to do this, put a few drops of white vinegar in the bowl right before using. With clean fingers totally cover the inside with the vinegar, then rinse, rinse, rinse.Dry it with a lint-free cloth and you're good to go. ... If you're a Food Network aficionado, this set of five mini mixing bowls is just what you need to keep up with the pros. Set aside a tablespoon of nutmeg in the smallest bowl or 3 cups of flour in the largest. The middle three bowls hold 1/4, 3/4, and 1-1/2 cups, respectively.Array your ingredients in front of you for easy access, then pour and blend a la Julia Child. This is also a perfect starter set for a child--the small sizes easily fit their eager little hands. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars not a frequent cook
I guess I missed the word "mini" in the description. These bowls are very very small. Nice--but small.I have no idea what one does with bowls this small.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sturdy to hold, pretty to look at...so what's a little rust?
If I could award 4++ stars I would. These bowls are nice to look at with their shiny gleam. They feel sturdy and heavy in your hand. They help to organize your ingredients and make you feel like a "real" cook. I wouldn't mind having another set actually. I just could not award 5 stars because the construction on my large bowl is such that the lip collects a small amount of water and before I learned how to avoid that, I had to wipe a little rust along the lip edge. I've since learned that if I stick the bowls in the dishwasher in such a way that they sit vertical in the rack (so that all water drains down) it drains any residual water left inside the lip. So no water in the lip = no rust whatsoever. Also, same as another reviewer experienced, I was surprised (and a little disappointed) at how small the bowls are. They don't look that "Mini" in the picture (did they just recently add the "Mini" part to the description??). I've since let go of that and find that in my small apartment kitchen, it actually works to my advantage because they are easily stowed. I've had my bowls since June 2003. They still come out of the dishwasher shiny albeit a little scratched inside (darn wire whisk!).In my opinion these bowls are not 100% perfect but they come pretty close for what they are!

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice set of preparation bowls
Highly recommended. These bowls are well made and much heavier than other comparable small stainless bowls. Made in India. ... Read more

The first bowl you'll reach for when mixing morning pancakes or banana bread, this stainless-steel bowl is especially useful when working with ingredients that should stay chilled. Simply pop the bowl in the freezer for a few minutes before using, and your cream will whip much more quickly. The sturdy lip of the bowl makes a firm grip easy to maintain. This bowl is really designed to be a true kitchen workhorse. It holds up well to a variety of temperatures, and you can pop it in the dishwasher as necessary. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great deal, nice bowl, sturdy construction
While I wasn't willing to plunk down $80 for an overpriced All-Clad mixing bowl, I was looking for a stronger than usual, commercial-style mixing bowl, sturdier than what is typically sold at say, Target or Bed Bath & Beyond.

This mixing bowl is easy on the wallet, and is a strong little number as well. The steel is definitely quality, and fairly thick, and the bottom is also flat for a better grip on one's countertop.I also purchased the smaller 2-quart bowl as well, and the bottom of that is sheathed in an attractive blue rubber, that also enhances traction on countertops.

My only gripe is that now I need to buy the 6 quart as well, for larger jobs such as cake batter or salads.Really a nice set. But, I'd say save yourself some money and get the bowls individually, rather than the set of 3 bowls for $49.99 that Amazon is also offering.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great design...great price...great all around
This is a wonderful item. Before I had this one (and the same one in another size)I only had plastic bowls. This one is so much better on alot of levels.

First it is a wonderful, all around great size. Its substantial size makes it great for alot of mixing chores. Its easy to clean and maintain. And great for salads as it holds the temperature and the salads stay cold.

My old plastic bowls werent as study and had a tendancy to tip, didnt help with temerature reculation and were harder to clean (tomato would stain it , you couldnt use plastic as a make-shif double boiler, and it was hard to ever be sure any grease was off it, essential for whipping egg whites.

this is a great item. They arent bad for storage either as they nest.I wouldnt get any other bowls, at this point...

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Bowl
I never thought I'd gush about a mixing bowl, but this one is great.I bought it as part of a deal with the Whirley Pop popcorn popper and I love this bowl. This is a thicker and heavier stainless steel than all my other bowls.Because it is heavier, it is less prone to move or tip over. All mixing bowls are not created the same, and this one is clearly one of the best. ...
