    Editorial Review

You can't beat a classic like Boggle for sheer return of fun on one's investment in a simple game. A small container holds 16 cubes, each cube marked with a different letter on each of its six sides. Give the container a good shake, and the cubes land within little pockets. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to find as many words (of three-or-more letters) as you can--in three minutes. Points are tallied by word length. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

    Features

    • The original 3-minute word search game!
    • Just shake up the lettered cubes, drop them into the grid and start the timer.
    • Then race to see who can list the most words with the highest point value among the random letter assortment in the grid!
    • For 2 to 6 players.
    • Ages 8 and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced Introduction to Word Games
In Boggle, players compete against one another and a 3-minute hourglass to find word combinations across randomly distibuted letter cubes on a 4x4 grid.

The game develops pattern recognition skills, and because most possible words are only three or four letters long, astute younger players can play adults without too much of s handicap.

Tactics learned playing Boggle translate well into success at Scrabble and other word games, while the clock management skills help with chess and test taking.

Boggle is lightweight and makes a good travel game, though you might want to bring a zipper-lock sandwich bag to avoid losing the letter cubes. As an added plus, the game can be played solitaire with minimal dropoff in entertainment value.

If you enjoy Boggle, you might want to seek out Big Boggle, which uses a 5-by-5 grid (56% more cubes). Words and time limit are both longer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast Passed, A Lot Of Fun
I have played this game for years. It is a lot of fun but my friends got tired of it. I love the fast passed action, which to me is less boring than scrabble, but not everyone thinks so. If you like scrabble you should enjoy this game. Finding with whom to play is a different story. If you are a parent do not hesitate to purchase this game for your child. I recommend having a scrabble dictionary close by. If you do you will find out in no time that most of your made-up words DO exist. And since you do not get penalties for them try as many as you wish.

The game is simple. You shake the letter cubes and when they are all in place you try to make as many words as possible by following a continuous path through adjacent letters in the rack. (Diagonal counts as adjacent) The path need not be straight, but each letter in the path can only be used once. You have three minutes (sand clock included) to do so. Only words that are three letters or more are permitted.

You can't go wrong with this game, plus it is not expensive. It's worth a try.

ADVANCED PLAYERS: If you look around you might find Boggle Master. That edition has a 5x5 grid and 9 more letter cubes. You still have three minutes (and the grid is as noisy as ever) but you can make a lot more points in this one. Happy hunting and good luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun times
I love this game and have for years. With so many words to make and such variety with who you play against and what letters might come up, it's always a different game every time you play it. The only drawback is the noise when shaking up the letters in their box. I would like to see a version that wasn't so irritating in that respect. As a tip, if the noise bothers you and you play the game a lot so it's worth the effort, put some thin felt strips in the box top (the kind with the self-adhesive backing) so when you shake it, it makes less noise. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Realistic
I have been playing Lunch Money for six years now, and it has become a hit with just about everyone I've introduced it to. Although the game seems overwhelming at first glance, it is a common sense game. The moves make perfect sense, and it usually takes players only a short while to grasp how it works. The situation of the recess fight almost lends itself to role-playing without anyone ever having to get up or log in.Mastering the game, on the other hand, is a challenge, albeit, a welcome one.The set-up definitely lends itself to hours of fun.

Though I don't recommend it for younger players--the fantastic artwork and trash talking aren't best for small kids--I think that families with teen-aged kids would have a good time with Lunch Money's playground free-for-all scenario. It's a great alternative to the traditional trash talking of a good spades game.

Even better, once you get your friends hooked, everyone wants to get in on the fun.The dynamics of the game change everytime you play it.My friends and I have even gone so far as deciding to set up teams and poker-style tournaments. What could be better than strategically and pyschologically dominating your opponent AND walking away with all of her lunch money?

If your looking for some keen ideas for stocking stuffers, check out this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Be the Bully
I just love this game.It recreates a playground fight with punches, kicks, blocks, dodges, and special fight cards. It doesn't take long to learn, but it is not easy to master.I play it with my wife, my friends, my 12 year-old nephew, and my 71 year-old mother. This game is fast paced and easy to learn. It is good for kids because of its storytelling nature. You narrate your playground fight, so you have to tell the group what you are doing.Wonderful for creativity. Lunch money is good for parties or quiet nights at home. However they won't be that quiet once you start playing. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

When Alexey Pajitnov, creator of Tetris (one of the most addictive games of all time), designs a new puzzle title, fans everywhere perk their heads up and take note. While it's not quite up to the irresistible standard set by its legendary predecessor, Microsoft's Pandora's Box: Puzzle Game of the Year Edition was named Puzzle Game of the Year by the Electric Games website, and offers hours of nonviolent, uncomplicated enjoyment through its 10 different types of puzzles.

Nearly all of the Pandora's Box conundrums resemble the traditional jigsaw puzzle, though you'll find plenty of visual twists, such as sliding pieces on a circular plane or having to solve a puzzle built on a complex 3-D object. Some deviate from this formula, but the most addictive puzzles follow this model, and those provide the most extended--and replayable--diversions.

For those overwhelmed by complex computer games, Pandora's Box: Puzzle Game of the Year Edition offers a simplistic interface and basic rules, easing computer novices into the puzzle environment. This edition features 40 new puzzle games, as well as the original 350 puzzles from the original Pandora's Box. There are five difficulty levels, plus various hints and wildcards that remove the frustration factor when you're unable to complete a particular puzzle. Looking for new puzzle games to replace your Tetris addiction? Check out Alexey Pajitnov's engrossing Pandora's Box: Puzzle Game of the Year Edition. --Doug Radcliffe ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Puzzling Experience.
Loved the game. Still do. I have played it many times before, just to get a better understanding of the different puzzles included in the game, and also to try and better my personal scores. If there is a better puzzle game out there, I would like to see it. It has kept me captivated hours on end each time I open up a new account for play, and I will keep playing it for years to come for that reason.

5-0 out of 5 stars A computer game for people who don't play computer games
Pin ball makes me grit my teeth, other computer games are either too violent, too complicated to figure out how to play or too juvenile. But Pandora's Box is the exception. It's the game for lovers of geography, art, history, mythology and for jigsaw puzzle lovers. The graphics are stunning, the music, while not the best feature, lends the right note, changing from African drums to a Caribean beat to pomp & circumstance depending on what parts of the world your game takes you. If you don't want to keep score you can also solve the puzzles on their own. This is my second copy and I hope Microsoft brings out a third installment with new puzzles.

Those degenerate cousins of Beavis and Butt-head have issued a predictable hash of 18 X-rated holiday songs for fans only. Rude, crude, outrageous outhouse humor certain to offend anyone who doesn't know South Park from the North Pole, these bellicose brats lambaste Hindus, Shintoists, and those of other faiths for not celebrating Christmas and remind us all that we'll one day be "Dead Dead Dead" (so enjoy each and every Christmas!). In between scattered bits of genuine holiday snippets, there's poop fixations ("Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo"), Jewish obsessions ("The Lonely Jew at Christmas" and "Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel"), "The Most Offensive Song Ever" (the Mary and Joseph story told, in part), and the sexual entendres of "What the Hell Child Is This?" Funny stuff? Maybe only if you tune in regularly and know that they frequently kill Kenny. And that's a big maybe. --Martin Keller ... Read more

One of my most favorite songs of all southpark ever is Lonely Jew on Christmas. but what a surprise was that this song on the album has a second part that is not in the original episode... singing some other guy and kyle:

Celebrity Guest, sort of recitation: Hey little boy I couldn't help but hear
Your feeling left out of Christmas cheer
And I've come to say that you shouldn't be sad
This is the one month you should be glad --------

`Cause its nice to be a Jew on Christmas.
You don't have to deal with the season at all.
You don't have to be on your best behavior or give to charity.
You don't have to have to go to grandma's house with your alcoholic family.

Kyle: And I don't have to sit on some fake Santa's lap
And have him breath his stinky breath on me. -------------

    SIMPLY AWESOME!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Join Mr. Hankey for the funniest Christmas album of them all
I don't know about you, but I try to keep the spirit of South Park Christmas in my heart every day of the year, and nothing keeps the Yule log burning quite like Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics.Yes, this is an album for all seasons of the year, a collection full of good cheer, good laughs, and of course pooh. Here are eighteen - count 'em, eighteen - South Park Christmas classics to keep your heart warm, your funny bone tickled, and your bowels regular.

Get the party started with the classic early 50s version that started the whole phenomenon, Mr. Hankey the Christmas Pooh.If that doesn't get you in the South Park Christmas spirit, Mr. Garrison's energetic rendition of Merry F'ing Christmas will - unless you're one of those dirty heathens who don't celebrate the season. You'll join Mr. Hat in applauding this modern classic.Let's not forget the true meaning of Christmas, though - close your eyes and listen to Eric Cartman's beautiful version of Oh Holy Night - you can almost hear the angels' uh, something.Juan Swartz and the South Park Children's Choir try to bring you down by pointing out how we will all someday be Dead, Dead, Dead, but leave it to Mr. Mackey to get the eggnog nogging again with his beautiful Carol of the Bells, mmmkay. It's important we don't forget all the little Jewish children (even though Kyle's Mom has a history of ruining Christmas for everyone else), for, as Kyle Broslofski sings, it's hard to be The Lonely Jew on Christmas. For everyone else, though, it's a blast.Heck, even Shelly Marsh takes the time to sing the ditty-like I Saw Three Ships, although Stan and his turd friends don't make it easy for her. Then Stan Marsh and Wendy Testaburger team up to sing It Happened in Sun Valley.

It's time to get serious now, though.Who isn't moved to tears by Adolf Hitler's heartfelt rendition of O Tannenbaum?Even Satan is moved by it, ushering in Christmas Time in Hell; soon the Kennedys, Hitler, Mao Tse-tung, and even Michael Landon are joining in the South Park Christmas spirit. But it's time to return our focus to the reason for the season.Chef emerges to lay down a smooth groove on his beautiful rendition of that beloved Christmas classic, What the Hell Child is This?Of course, you can't have a Christmas album without the song Santa Claus is On His Way, sung the way only Mr. Hankey can sing it.Then Eric Cartman reminds us that Christmas isn't Christmas without a Swiss Colony Beef Log, and he really rocks the house when he decks the halls with boughs of Swiss Colony. At this point, the South Park Children's Choir returns to sing Hark the Herald Angels Sing - they don't sound like angels, I'm afraid. But what of poor Kyle? He's fine, playing Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel - this is a great medley featuring the entire Broslofski family along with Eric and Stan. The next track sort of speaks for itself, in a muffled sort of way, as Mr. Hankey and Kenny McCormick team up to sing the Most Offensive Xmas Song Ever. After Mr. Ose sings We Three Kings, Mr. Hankey, Stan, Kyle, and Eric close out the album with perennial favorite Have a Merry Little Christmas.

Obviously, if you are easily offended or have never understood what South Park is all about, you won't enjoy this album. They put that Explicit Lyrics sticker on there for a reason, you know. Those who can't stomach hilarious irreverence in their Christmas celebrations may in fact, after hearing this album, start some kind of anti-South Park campaign, so I would have to implore such people (and you know who you are) from listening to Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics.Let all the rest of us have our harmless little fun. ... This professional mandoline slicer for slicing and shredding potatoes and other vegetables comes with everything you need: a 4-quart stainless-steel bowl, a plastic storage lid, four interchangeable cutting blade cartridges, and a cutting slide with a safety guard. Just slide in the cartridge you need--thin slice, thick slice, julienne (1/8-inch), or french-fry cutter (1/4-inch)--press the safety guard with sharp prongs onto the end of the vegetable, and slice away. The safety guard rests on side rails over the blade so your hand can't slip, and the entire cutting slide apparatus snaps onto the top of the bowl. The stainless-steel bowl has four rubber grippers underneath so it won't slide while you're slicing. Pop the plastic storage lid on top and put leftovers in the fridge. Every part of the mandoline slicer, including the cutting blades, is dishwasher-safe. Lifetime limited warranty. --Doree Armstrong ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's simple mechanics, folks
I bought this item about 2 years ago and use it mostly for slicing potatoes and making cole slaw.It is very easy to use, and despite what you may have read from others, it is easy to remove the blades as well.I understand the problem well.If you grasp the edge of the blade without really paying attention to how it is designed, the tendency is to pull down a bit. This puts pressure on the small piece of plastic that is designed to lock the blade in place, thus causing you to fight against the "lock". If you pull the blade slightly upward and out, it slides out very easily. For that matter, straight out works, too. It may not be fancy, but for my needs, it works great!

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this item!!!
We received this mandoline as a Christmas gift, so we cannot return it without risking hurt feelings. It is cheaply made, has few cutting options, and worst of all, the blades are extremely hard to remove, resulting in a badly cut finger!

Hoffritz is apparently out of business (Salten has a license to sell some of their products, but not this one), and I can see why.

4-0 out of 5 stars First mandolin I ever had; I like it

Placing the cutters in their various categories, for example, is a playful exercise that teaches abstract logic and builds confidence. Categories include letters, numbers, geometric forms, animals, plants, vehicles, symbols (such as adollar sign and a question mark), seasonal themes, and miscellaneous shapes such as an umbrella and a bell. The cutters are formed of stiff, durable plastic, are colorful and fascinating enough to be used outside the kitchen, and are dishwasher-safe. these are not worth it. the dough get stuck in the cutter and it is very hard to get the dough out. I had to stop right in the middle of baking and go and buy metal cutters to finish my holiday cookies.I will now give these to the day care next to me for the kids to play with.

    Editorial Review

Here's a dart game that won't hurt anyone: instead of darts with pointed ends, this version usessix small Koosh balls made with loops (a bit different than the familiar fringed ends of regular Kooshballs). The set includes a 10-inch, purple plastic target covered with .75-inch bristles. The bristles are blunt, and catch the Koosh balls by their loops (much like a snag) as they're thrown. The board also features anadjustable spinning surface that can make the game more complex. An outer scoring ring made ofcardboard fits around the target, which can be mounted with screws to a wall or door. Complete directionsare included for three versions of play. Don't tell the kids, but they'll have to practice their addition as theyadd up their scores, because each hit on the target scores a large number of points. Its 708 foam pieces all seem to look alike at first, but after a bit of sorting and observation the path soon becomes clear. Getting the 12-by-12-by-18-inch droid together takes some careful work, though--the soft pieces fit together much more easily than cardboard, even when they're not supposed to! 5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids
I gave this toy as a Christmas present to a very grown up kid and I was instantly a hit. The box was opened in minutes and construction began. R2D2now has a special place set aside in the living-room for all to see. Myonly gripe about this toy is that it was difficult to tell what pieceswhere needed and what pieces where not. As a result R2D2 is now missingsome of his base as the, thought to be scrap items, were dicarded after theChristmas party.

This is a very cool item that any Star Wars fan will like. This is the second 3-D puzzle I've put together (the first I did was the Millenium Falcon, the hands-down best Star Wars 3-D puzzle! Definitely look for it.)and was pretty easy to do. It looks great and with an electronic voice-boxincluded, it sounds great, too. The voice-box is very loud and clear andhas a few different "phrases" that you recognise from the films. It is also pretty big, at about 17 inches high. This is one of the coolestStar Wars collectibles that will ever be released and is definitely for ALLages.

Set the Tazmanian Devil loose in the kitchen with this conspicuous two-piece hot air popper. Families will delight in watching fluffy, fresh-popped corn froth out of Taz's immense, voracious maw. Just make sure that the serving bowl placed underneath him is a large one. Because of his wide mouth, Taz can be a spaz when he spits out the corn; unpopped kernels in particular can become little flying missiles expectorated across the kitchen. The head of this frenzied, whirling cartoon dervish lifts off for loading and cleanup, and it sits on a hard plastic base with zippy white and lemon yellow stripes. Because hot air popping requires no fats or oils, each kernel emerges light and grease-free. 1-0 out of 5 stars Design Flaw
Yes this item is "cute" but there seems to be a design flaw in that it wastes so much popcorn. Not only does it spew popcorn all over the counter and floor if you do not have a big enough bowl, it results in 20-30% old maids.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute and fun!
The popper is not only cute, it works extremely well and is fast, although as the corn starts popping, some of the first kernels may miss the bowl. The clean up is a snap -- just wipe with a wet towel.

1-0 out of 5 stars MESSY
Though that this would be so cute, but it shoots popcorn all over the place, the opening is to large, and unless you have a very large shallow bowl your going to get alot of popcorn on your counter & Floor. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

How's your tolerance for puns? You'll need some for Pass the Pigs, asimple game of chance built around a pig theme. Instead of dice, you rolltwo cute pink piglets, and you gain or lose points depending on how thecritters land. For example, if both land on all fours, called a "doubletrotter," you get 20 points; if they land lying opposite each other, calleda "Pig Out," you gain no points and cede your turn. There are a number ofother rules, as well as a variation called "Hog Call." This would be a good travel game--the pigs, instructions, and scoring padfit in a small, tidy box--or a fine present for someone who's, well, intopigs! --Elisa Murray ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun game of chance - an essential for college students.
Pass the Pigs is an easy-to-learn game of chance where you use small rubber pigs instead of dice. Any number of players from two on up take turns rolling the "dice" and accumulating points based on how the pigs land. A player can roll over and over again, gaining points, until he or she decides to stop and keep the points accumulated so far, or until the pigs show a "Pig Out" which ends the player's turn and sets his or her score for that turn to zero. The first player to get 100 points wins. There's a bit of strategy involved in weighing the odds of getting a Pig Out versus wanting to accumulate as many points as possible in any given turn.

Pass the Pigs is good for almost all age groups (it's not for small children due to the tiny size of the pigs), but I wouldn't exactly call it an educational toy. It's just a fun, simple game. My friends and I played Pass the Pigs a lot in college, and I still break it out to this day when my wife and I need a quick distraction from our day-to-day toils. ... Read more

Some classics never lose their appeal! Nested in a colorful, open-faced box, this old friend has the same bright red plastic frame, the same horizontal and vertical knobs, and the same inviting gray drawing screen as the original model. And as always, this Classic Etch A Sketch will provide hours of pencil-free drawing as its owner masters the right-left and up-down movements required. The magic screen upon which your drawings appear is glass, covered with protective clear plastic film. Inside, aluminum powder and plastic beads respond to each turn of the knobs. Owners are encouraged to join the Etch A Sketch club and receive a membership card, an official club patch, and a newsletter three times a year. --Liane Thomas ... Read more

The Etch-a-Sketch has a certain challenge. Once you master drawing a good circle, you feel like you have made it and you're a master. What a great self-esteem boost for growing children! What parent doesn't want that to increase, while also offering the benefit of creative expression. on the other hand, it can be frustrating and easily boring for younger children without as much dexterity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for car trips!
Along with being a timeless toy which combines a child's imagination and agility, it is a compact, easily accessible toy.I remember that my parents always brought the Etch-a-Sketch on long car rides since it would keep my brother or I busy for hours. This is also a very durable toy, as we still have and use our Etch-A-Sketch, even though I am 26 now.I would recommend buying this toy especially for a child that loves to have a blank screen on which to create what is in their imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars A golden oldie!
Don't you just love toys that span generations?I loved etch-a-sketch when I was a kid and to my delight so does my nine year old nephew. It's a great way to acquire dexterity with your fingers whilst having a lot of fun too.I never quite mastered the art of drawing Elvis's face on my etch-a-sketch, but I know people who did and what you can do with one of these babies is quite astounding! However I loved making patterns and fiddling around with the knobs even though I never made it as the next Picasso. This is an ageless toy that I still play with now and I am well into my thirties! It's theraputic and fun and I for one am still glad it is on the market in the year 2000. ...
