    Editorial Review

No film better utilizes Audrey Hepburn's flighty charm and svelte beauty than this romantic adaptation of Truman Capote's novella. Hepburn's urban sophisticate Holly Golightly, an enchanting neurotic living off the gifts of gentlemen, is a bewitching figure in designer dresses and costume jewelry. George Peppard is her upstairs neighbor, a struggling writer and "kept" man financed by a steely older woman (Patricia Neal). His growing friendship with the lonely Holly soon turns to love and threatens the delicate balance of both of their compromised lives. Taking liberties with Capote's bittersweet story, director Blake Edwards and screenwriter George Axelrod turn New York into a city of lovers and create a poignant portrait of Holly, a frustrated romantic with a secret past and a hidden vulnerability. Composer Henry Mancini earned Oscars for the hit song "Moon River" and his tastefully romantic score. The only sour note in the whole film is Mickey Rooney's demeaning performance as the apartment's Japanese manager, an offensively overdone stereotype even in 1961. The rest of the film has weathered the decades well. Edwards's elegant yet light touch, Axelrod's generous screenplay, and Hepburn's mix of knowing experience and naiveté combine to create one of the great screen romances and a refined slice of high society bohemian chic. --Sean Axmaker ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Breakfast with Hepburn
For me this is the film that captures Audrey Hepburn's legendary career. Some people may push for My Fair Lady (but her singing voice wasn't used in the movie so it's hard to argue its definitiveness, besides it's more associated with Julie Andrews) or Roman Holiday (her only Academy Award win), but I am whole-heartedly for Breakfast at Tiffany's because everything about the movie captures the magic that is Audrey Hepburn.

When I first saw the first scene of the movie which was Hepburn having breakfast at a still closed Tiffany's with the score of Moon River in the backgroud, it already had me. There's something about the melancholic atmosphere of the beginning credits that captured the loneliness of Holly Golightly. This is one of the most memorable opening credits ever, and no single word was even uttered.

Audrey Hepburn may not be regarded in the same breath as Bette Davis and Katharine Hepburn in terms of acting, but only Audrey Hepburn can combine charm, effervescence, vulnerability, and heartbreaking tenderness into her roles particularly in this one, she is an acting goddess in her own right.

    Grade:A

4-0 out of 5 stars Saved By The Cat.
Breakfast At Tiffany's is more memorable than other Audrey Hepurn films including My Fair Lady and Roman Holiday. Even though her character is not likeable to a lot of people in the film as well as the audiences, I do find her eccentricity fascinnating and grew sympathetic towards her by the end. Especially being a cat lover myself, to see her abandoning Cat and then ranning in the rain to find it again was such a touching scene.

Holly Golightly(Hepburn) is a former farm girl living in New York city, and she's a callgirl/golddigger in search of a millionaire husband. She has breakfast(junkfood) outside of Tiffany's and she thinks she would one day have the money to buy those jeweleries. Enter a struggling writer named Paul Varjark(George Peppard), her neighbor who is a "rentboy" sponsored by a wealthy woman named Patricia Neal. At first, Holly has no desire to get involved with Paul knowing that he has no money, but gradually she realized that they were two of a kind. He relentlessly pursured her, but she rejected him for the possibility of becoming a wealthy wife of a Brazilian millionaire. Will Holly end up with wealth or love?

Audrey Hupburn is very beautiful and glamorous, and her black boat-neck dress with pearl necklaces and updo hairstyle is a total classic look. George Peppard is very charming and wonderful in this film. The upstairs' Japanese neighbor with a vulgar attitude portrayed by a White actor is really annoying. Did they not have any Japanese actors to work in a Hollywood movie in the '60s? I loved the score, especially Moon River heard at the end of the movie, it's the perfect ballad that captured the romantic and sad mood. Of Course, Cat also stole some scenes in this movie. It's funny that Holly just called him Cat.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring and shallow
I heard a lot of good things about this movie and was curious about it. What a disappointment!! Hepburn's character is shallow, unballanced and extremely unlikable. I couldn't keep from wondering why did Peppard's character ever fall in love with her. There is no plot, no character development, just boredom. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Le Creuset is famous for coating its heavy, cast-iron cookware with not just one, but two--count 'em, two--layers of enamel baked on at 1,450 degrees F, resulting in gloriously bright colors. This bright-red, heart-shaped casserole adds a note of whimsy to dishes, but its 2-quart capacity, handles, and heavy-duty construction make it practical as well. Both its interior and exterior are enameled--as are the bottoms of all Le Creuset pots and pans--to prevent scratching glass-topped stoves. The enamel surface will not react with any acidic foods and is easy to clean. The weight and nature of cast iron make for even heat distribution. This cookware gives you all the benefits of cast iron without the painstaking care. --Schuyler Ingle ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 101 Year Warranty says it all!
Not only are Le Creuset products beautiful, they are well designed and extremely durable. How many companies offer a 101 year warranty on cookware???? Le Creuset is the only one I know of to offer such a warranty, which in my opinion demonstrates the quality you receive when purchasing their items.

As for this particular design, it has to be my favorite, whether for special occassions or everyday use. I get so many compliments about my unique cookware.

Trust me, you'll be delighted if you purchase the Heart Casserole!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Be My Valentine with Whimsy, Beauty, and Function!
I have collected all of Le Creuset's fruit and vegetable shaped cast iron enameled casseroles. In my 40+ years of cooking these casseroles are at the top of my list for beauty and functionality. They are beautiful to display on a table or on a kitchen counter and very practical in cooking delightful casseroles, soups, stews and other wonderful dishes. The color that they can add to a kitchen brightens every vist there. The exterior and interior enamel coating is very durable and easy to clean. I have cooked a multitude of dishes in these casseroles and have found them to be excellent in heat conduction and preventing "hot spots". The wider and lower shaped casseroles are a little better in spreading the heat.

The warranty against defects of 101 years will certainly last beyond my expected needs but it is nice to know that I have the protection since these are not inexpensive purchases.

The comments of guests served from these casseroles is always positive and never fails to bring a smile to my face.

There is a drawback to these whimsical cookers and that is the rim of both the top and bottom of the casseroles. There is no enamel on these rims and they can rust if not dried immediately after hand washing. They are dishwasher safe but I do recommend that you hand wash and dry immediately. I also recommend that you let them sit out for an hour or so to air dry before storing them.

When wet this casserole can be very slippery and the handles on the bottom and top help in preventing dropping them. Be really careful!

Finally, closely inspect your casserole when it arrives. My first garlic casserole had a two inch crack in the enamel. I did not have to contact Le Crueset since Amazon.com immediately sent a replacement to me and had the defective item picked up at my home at no charge. I commend them for standing behind the products they sell.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift for others and yourself.....
I bought this little casserole for my daughter, and I liked it so much I bought one for me.The size is small enough for a casserole for a two-person household like mine, or a rice or bread pudding. Used for storage of leftovers--it is perfect.Besides, it's pretty.Great gift for yourself or others.

The only downside is that cast iron pans with enamel coverings are at risk for chipping. My pot came with little rubber separators that suspand the lid above the pot.My daughter asked me if she should take them off when she baked, and I said yes, but save them because they will protect the sides of your pot.

Another thing I like is that the pot came packed in biodegradable peanuts.Don't know if it was the French manufacturer or the shipping source, but keep up the good work. All shippers should take a hint. There is no need to use the old plastic peanuts. If the corn starch peanuts work with a heavy pan, they will work with anything. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

As my tastes expand, my kitchen shrinks, filling with specialized appliances. Fortunately, this versatile grill is a space saver, cooking something for every meal: thin American-style waffles, paninis, sausages, or grilled meats and fish. The secret is the reversible grid. One side is a four-square waffle iron for waffles, while the other neatly grills sandwiches or paninis. If you want to dress up the waffles for an all-American breakfast, just open the grill so both sides lay flat to grill up some bacon or sausages. The nonstick grids are easy to clean, and allow for lower-fat grilling, justifying more whipped cream on your waffles or extra cheese in your sandwich. The raised rib grill drains fat as your food grills for further fat reduction. Recipes are included to guide you through a variety of waffles, French toast, paninis, T-bone steaks, and grilled vegetables. --Laura Cuthbert ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful American Waffler
I purchased this product for my wife at Christams with reservations because of the review I read before the purchase.A person had purchased this product and had trouble with the springs locking up after pouring in the mix and not being able to open the lid and burning his fingers in the process. This individual rated it low because of his experience. My wife and I have made four sessions of perfect American waffles with this product, using a pre mix and also from scratch from the receipe book provided.I have not been able to figure out even closely how this individual manged to jam the lid but I would have to call it "operator error."I have rated this product as five stars because the waffles we've made have only been getting better and better with each use.

3-0 out of 5 stars grilliing OK, waffles disaster
Although the surface is "non-stick," my waffles always stick.Imagine scraping semi-baked dough out of the myriad crevices.Perhaps I need to find a recipie with the right balance of moisture and oil.

It does take a long time to warm up, and it seems that only the Hi setting reaches an adequate setting for most cooking.

had fun making grilled cheese and panini.

2-0 out of 5 stars Watch what you wish for; then don't 'waffle.'
We looked forward to our 1st (and only) wafflemaker in our 39 year marriage.......The 1st waffle, as expected, was "so-so," but the next 2 were great! That's Saturday breakfast #1. Next "special weekend breakfast," I added 1/4 cup cinnamon-sugar & 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans to the 2 cup (+ other stuff) waffle mix, BUT no extra oil in mix. All 3 waffles "split" into top& bottom halves, regardless of baking time. But starting out this "fun" waffle-making session, the little "tinny" prongs that hold up the lid in vertical position "sprang," so it could be opened ONLY full-flat....... which taught the neighbors new words, as I managed to burn 4 fingers trying to wrestle the waffle maker from falling to the floor; quality of this Villaware is underwhelming. One needs discipline in such matters! I promise to NEVER buy online again. ... Read more

This CD is one of the greatest purchases I ever made.I was brousing the cd's a my local record store and came upon this fuzzy, ultra-hip complilation.I have bought this CD for friends and used it for entertaining.Almost anyone will love this cd, if simply for the humour in it! FANTASTIC!

5-0 out of 5 stars Swanky!
an excellent potpourri of swingers music... It even has a few of the goodies such as Bobby Darin's "No one else could love you more" and of course they have jump jive and wail.

Very nice Cd to put on quietly while you're entertaining a lady friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a hoot
I do not know what on earth possessed me to buy this CD. I'm not a big lounge fan. I am not cool. I listen to bluegrass, for crying out loud.

The Fuzzy Sampler is indeed a packaging masterpiece. Could that have been it? No- I bought it from Amazon, sight unseen.

The music? The Fuzzy Sampler contains some of the silliest tunes ever to find their way into my CD player. "Lonesome Road" is like Spike Jones on acid. Do not sip on a martini while listening to "Teach Me Tiger"- you will choke on the olive. "Swamp Fire" sounds like something you'd hear at a church haunted house, and - "Holiday for Strings?" Speechless.

But then again, I turn the knob to 11 every time "Peter Gunn," "Pink Panther," and "I Love Paris" come on. Overall, the mix is perfect- uptempo beat, then smooth sex (er, I mean sax), short trip on an elevator, then back to jump...and the embarrassing moments ("French Rat Race"- ptooey!) are over quickly.

Great pick-me-up music, and what an eye opener. I can't wait to throw more money at the rest of Ultra Lounge series! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, great book!
Even Cowgirls Get The Blues" by Tom Robbins is at first a bit hard to follow, a trademark of Robbins' work, but well worth the effort. The main character is Sissy Hankshaw, a young beauty with one minor, or maybe major flaw, her huge thumbs. Instead of letting the size of her thumbs hinder her, she uses them to her advantage, and becomes the best hitchhiker in the country, perhaps the world. Hitchhiking takes Sissy to a number of diverse and interesting places, where she meets many distinct and different people. Among the people Sissy meets is the "Countess", a gay, cross dressing owner of a douche company which Sissy becomes a part time model for. Through the Countess Sissy meets Julian Gitche, who becomes her husband. She also meets Bonanza Jelly Bean, "the cutest cowgirl in the world" who dreams that someday every little girl that dreams of becoming a cowgirl will be able to and not be told that it is a silly dream like she was told by her parents. Among the people that Sissy meets the Chink would have to be one of considerable significance, although he would not say that he "taught" Sissy anything, she learned a lot from him, and he gave the reader a lot to think about too. "Even Cowgirls Get The Blues" was both entertaining and witty, coming as much from the crazy antics of the characters as from the frequent interjections from the author. "Cowgirls" is one of Robbins' best work both in imaginative characters and wild themes. It has the "stuff" to keep the reader interested to the end. Also highly recommend for its humor, insight, and disturbing qualities, would be BARK OF THE DOGWOOD-A Tour of Southern Homes and Gardens.

1-0 out of 5 stars HOT HOT GIRL-ON-COWGIRL ACTION!
Wow, Tom Robbins. I'd have an easier time buying your pseudo-feminist pro-equality bullsh-t if you didn't spend at least half the book gratuitously sexualising your cardboard female characters, some of which seem to exist for the sole purpose of being Hot Bisexual Cowgirls. Bisexual myself, I can tell you that writing self-indulgent titillation doesn't exactly make you a crusader for gay OR women's rights. I'm wondering whether you would have enjoyed vomiting up Sissy's odyessy so much if she hadn't been so implausibly blonde, thin, beautiful and (as you tell us) capable of the impossible feat of maintaining perfectly perky breasts despite never wearing a bra? It's uncessary, degrading little touches like this that totally undermine the sometimes quite interesting philosophy of the novel. For all its pretentions, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues isn't empowering, for the readers or the characters; Sissy's voice is indistinguishable from Robbin's, and rather than developing a true personality she (like most of the female cast) remains a vehicle for his pompous assumptions about women and his sexual fantasies until the final page. I quite enjoy erotica about beautiful lesbians myself, but I don't pretend that objectification of a sexuality is the way to prove I'm into tolerance and respect. What rankles here is that Robbins is smugly attempting to masquerade overblown exploitation as a plea for equality. I haven't read any of his other novels, but I've heard Robbins tackles the challenging issue of hot women sleeping together in several. I won't be reading them. One star.
