Editorial Review

The vivid hues of the Monet French press will brighten up your morning toast or after-dinner coffee in style. A gleaming dome caps the traditional stainless-steel frame, and the colored handle and knob provide accent. Simply add your favorite coffee (using the handy, color-coordinated measuring scoop included), pour boiling water over, and let sit for a few minutes. Pressing the plunger with its fine mesh screen presses the grounds to the bottom, leaving rich, robust coffee ready to serve. Though pieces are top-shelf dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended. If you sometimes brew coffee for one, consider also getting a 3-cup press. --Cynthia Nims ... Read more

Kitchen

Editorial Review

If you take the trouble to buy fresh gourmet coffee beans, you want a grinder that enhances the flavor and aroma of your morning brew. Krups has been making household grinders for years, and this shiny, chrome-finished mill is an attractive, easy-to-use choice for your beans. Two thick, straight blades guarantee even grinding, and with the pulse-touch button, the coarseness of the grind is completely up to you. Ever thought of making your own fresh curry powder? The grinder also works well with hard spices such as cloves and cardamom. Just wipe clean with a sponge or cloth between uses, and the lid is dishwasher-safe if it needs an extra scrub. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars $30 For A Coffee Grinder! That's Too Much!
You can get a nice coffee maker for $30! Just use a regular blender to grind your coffee beans OR find a cheaper coffee grinder. But anyway I don't grind my coffee anymore, I just buy it already ground. It's just a lot easier.

1-0 out of 5 stars I hate this coffee grinder
I had the Krups fast touch grinder for 12 years and loved it.It only finally died because I cleaned it with water.I replaced it with this Krups grinder and it makes a huge mess. The stainless steel design seems to cause an excessive amount of static electricity so the coffee dust goes everywhere.I've put up with for about 6 months and today I am ordering the original fast touch which is still available in black and white.

1-0 out of 5 stars Looks great, but....
As with all plastic grinders, static is a problem.

The plastic broke on my unit very quickly.

Any kind of blade mill grinder is going to result in uneven coffee grounds, andit will be impossible to get a fine grind. For $10 more you can get a cheap burr grinder, which gives better results (flavor!) ... Read more

Editorial Review

Bob Dorough may be the oldest living beatnik or the youngest of Santa's elves, a singer-songwriter-pianist who combines an iconoclast's irreverence with a child's impishness. His astonishing septuagenarian comeback continues with this album, which is by turns elegant and funny, often in the same song. Like his peers Mose Allison, Bobby Troup, and Dave Frishberg (and such heirs as Tom Waits and Randy Newman), Dorough is a limited singer, a skillful pianist, and a brilliant lyricist. He wrote nine of the 12 songs here and pokes fun at caffeine addicts, the 20th century, and our attempts to understand love. An effervescent joy comes through in these satires and in the breezy valentines to his wife. The catchy swing and bop tunes are given some weight by an all-star band that features Phil Woods, Ray Drummond, and Billy Hart. --Geoffrey Himes ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Coolest Cat In The World
I had to write a review after reading that last one.First of all his name is DOROUGH!Man-o-man.Bob has to be one of the most influential people of my generation.Schoolhouse Rock is as important to my early education as anything.I still recall those lyrics when I need to understand the our history, or math, or grammar, or science.
Too Much Coffee Man is a wonderful exercise in free spiritedness.Yesterday, I Made Your Breakfast is heartwrenching. And this from a 78 year old!Wake Sally It's Saturday is still hummed every weekend between my wife and I.Love (Webster's Defnition) is an amazing classic.Get this CD and listen to it 10 times. You'll be hooked. Then go to NYC and catch him on Sunday mornings at the Iridium. But whatever you do, thank your personal god that this man is alive and well and still making important American music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bob Dorough; Master Musician's Birthday today: December 12!
So much joy, intelligence, and creativity in one person. I am honoring Bob Dorough on his birthday by purchasing 6 of his CDs. He is somebody very special. Thanks for the great gift of yourself, Bob.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, entertaining...
The first time you listen to this, you will laugh out loud several times. This is an example of the reason American music is great: startling creativity. So it seems to me. You might need to listen to it a few times to get used to it, but soon you will like it. Your friends may think you're crazy, or they may come to admire your dashing tastes. Hey, just relax and enjoy it because that's what it's meant for and what it's great for. In any case, it makes a great gift. Personally, I genuinely like this both as music and as comedy.

BTW, Bob Dorough's most famous for "Conjunction Junction, what's your function?" ... Read more

Your Body's Many Cries for Water

Editorial Review

As a result of extensive research into the role of water in the body, the author, a medical doctor, believes that he has found chronic dehydration to be the cause of many conditions including asthma, allergies, arthritis, angina, migraine headaches, hypertension, raised cholesterol, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, depression, and diabetes in the elderly.

According to Dr. Batmanghelidj, the body possesses many different thirst signals. A dry mouth is not a reliable indicator of your body's water needs. He describes a variety of more reliable ones, and helps you learn to understand when your body is calling for water. In this way, he claims you can prevent, treat, and cure a variety of conditions of ill health, at no cost, with what he calls nature's miracle medicine: Water. The author explains how much water one needs to drink a day to stay healthy, and why tea, coffee, and sodas are not good substitutes for water. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Batmanghelidj's motivation
I bought this book from here on Amazon.ca where I buy almost all my books as I really enjoy this customer friendly site.
I am writing this review because the Author seems to sell this book with negitivity toward the medical profession of which is quite deserved. It is strange then to find this Author has written sevearl books to enhance your health as he cares so much more about than your health than your family physican.I question this as with all his books he changes a few sentences for the main points are the same.Drink water and don't be afraid of salt.
If that is the message of this book then way is Dr. Batmanghelidj so intent on making huge profits of the ill and those suffering from pain? Can he be satisfied with a DECENT profit? He is making huge amounts of money, much more than the locale GP.All he needed to do would be to write one book instead of taking advantage of the suffering public.I must say I lost respect for him.His pockets must be fairly deep.
Does drinking more water help with painful medical conditions? The answer is yes, it does. At least in my case I am happy with the outcome. Our first nine months are those which find us completely incased in water. So it is a simple conclusion really that we are all very dehydrated as children and adults.
I thank the good doctor for making the message available to us but as I said I think he is a little too interested in money has has no room to belittle the medical community while he has several titles to books that are 98% the same message.Only thing is you have to buy each book that offers a protential of offering new or more help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Great Advice
I read this book when it first came out in the UK, put the advice into practice, and immediately noticed a significant improvement in my general state of health, especially a decrease in headaches and back pain.Perhaps not so surprising, really, since Dr Batmanghelidj is a fully qualified doctor of medicine who came to the UK from Iran and worked at a major London hospital for some time.

I would also like to point out that this book is particularly important for people who have conditions where flushing the system is a major consideration - and this is indeed understood by the medical profession at large.
A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (an illness which already affects millions of people world-wide and which is said to be nearing "epidemic" proportions). One of the first things his doctor asked was how much water he drank per day. When he said 1-1.5 litres the doctor told him he should AT LEAST double his intake (2-3 litres per day).

Does water matter? You bet it does!
Has Dr Batmanghelidj done us one mighty big favour by publicising its importance?Seems to me that's exactly what this book has done.

1-0 out of 5 stars He's a quack
The man doesn't believe that AIDS is "caused by a virus."It says so right there in this book.He also hasn't published any real studies about his "water cure."If the effects were as dramatic as he says, the medical world would be all over it, just like they always tell everybody to exercise and eat well.

I have no doubt that chronic dehydration is bad for you, and I'm sure that drinking only water and rarely caffeinated drinks or alcohol is better for you, but this guy is just ridiculous. ... Read more
