    Editorial Review

Bandleader and inventor Fred Waring introduced the first blender in 1936, and this model pays tribute to that early version in its retro styling. A tall, old-fashioned-looking blender, it will crush ice and blend frozen fruit beautifully in a few seconds. This blender feels sturdy: the lid, with a cap that doubles as a 1-ounce measurer, fits securely, and the pitcher, made of thick, ridged glass, won't wobble. Many chefs prefer a blender rather than a food processor for soups and creamy sauces--the blades of a good blender whirl more quickly than those of a food processor and will refine a thin liquid such as cream of tomato soup to an incomparably silky texture. This blender is definitely up to that task. The fixed, self-cleaning stainless-steel blades on the base of the pitcher mean the lid is the only separate part to wash. --Maria Dolan ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Second to None
I've had this blender for over a year now, and wow! It's the best, period. It blends anything; no matter how frozen. It has also proven it self to be the most durable blender I've ever owned.I am a bodybuilder, so I use it to blend protein shakes 2-3 times a day.

Like people have said...it is very load. However, that's not an issue to me.Also, it's easier to clean rigth away.Simply fill with some water, add a drop of soap, blend, rise, and you're done.

3-0 out of 5 stars A top name in blenders, but has some flaws
With Waring on the product you know you're buying quality. This is a well built blender with a motor that feels like it could start your car.It is easy to clean and will crush/blend/pulverize anything you throw at it.
The downside, you cant see what you blending or how well mixed it is.The metal carafe is very durable, but I wish it had a pyrex or glass one instead.
The lack of more speed settings is also a bit irksome... but pulsing can obtain the same results.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too small
This is a handsome product and is undoubtedly a good blender, but it should be noted that it is considerably smaller than most blenders. It is described as having a 32 oz container, but it will only blend 24 oz, about half of a standard KitchenAid. A more accurate representation of its functional capacity would have kept me from mistakenly ordering it. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

A great, comprehensive collection of Sinatra's most popular Reprise tracks, and worth having for any number of reasons, Very Best Of features tons of familiar hits--but requires a caveat for casual Sinatra fans. When Sinatra formed Reprise, he began to re-record many of the sides he'd released on Capitol, in an attempt to transfer his catalog to the new label. It was a smooth move, but his re-recorded versions seldom replaced the originals in the way he'd hoped. And many of the familiar songs here are Capitol remakes. It'd be a task to compare the track listing here with that of the Capitol Years set, but if you want to get serious about your Sinatra, that's the way to go. If you're just a music fan, this is a gem. --Gavin McNett ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Frank Sinatra is awesome
I used to be into rap & heavy metal, but after listening to Sinatra, it seems to me that he is the very essence of pure, beautiful music. This album was my first, and it's great to start out listening to Sinatra with. But I plan to purchase all of his albums sooner or later; this is one artist that will be here forever. I STRONGLY suggest that you purchase this album; I promise you will enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars My first Sinatra CD and I'm not disappointed
Within the past couple of years, I became interested in Frank Sinatra's music (thanks to the "What Women Want" soundtrack) and followed the recommendations of an Amazon member and bought this album.Being relatively new to Sinatra's singing, other than his more famous hits like "New York, New York" and "Luck Be a Lady", I soon ranked this 2-disc set as one of my favorites. It's gotten a lot of play time and will continue to as long as my disc doesn't wear out!
At first I didn't really care much for the 2nd disc, but as I listened to it more and more, I found that it has some excellent songs included.By now, both discs get equal play, and I choose which disc to listen to by my mood.Disc 1 tends to be more upbeat, while disc 2 tends to be more mellow.
I plan to add more Sinatra music to my collection, however I think this made a great introductory disc to Sinatra's best. And even if I end up with several Sinatra discs, I'll still have a place for this collection of songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Voice
Sinatra is the voice. Everything he sings whether good or bad it's beautiful, because he's Sinatra. No one can touch him no one ever could. Nat King Cole is the only other artist who can sing something and inspire a feeling. Sinatra can take you to a place, that no one else can. He's the best and this is a wonderful collection of some of his most memerable works. Though some of my personal favorites are "They Can't Take That Away From Me", "Under my Skin", and "Last Dance", but this cd does not disappoint. ... Read more

This cordless electric percolator brews two to six 5-ounce cupsof coffee and lifts off its power base for convenient pouring. Anadjustable thermostat permits brewing to be set anywhere from light tostrong and also varies the warming temperature when the brewing processis complete and the percolator automatically switches to keep-warmmode. Lights signal when power is on and when brewing is complete. Areal beauty, the percolator is made of stainless steel with amatte-finish body. A band around the top and the spout are polished toa mirror finish. The handle, a band on the bottom, the power base, andthe ball-shaped knob atop the plastic lid (which is transparent formonitoring the brewing process) are all matte-finish black plastic tocomplete the updated retro look.

To provide 360-degree access, the 1,000-watt percolator fits ontothe power base in any position. The stainless-steel worksinside--coffee basket, pump tube, and spring--are dishwasher-safe. 1-0 out of 5 stars Stopped working in 6 months!
Junk. Stopped heating up after 6 months of use! Wouldn't come on, wouldn't heat, junk. AND customer sevice is a huge disappointment! Would not honor warranty because serial number indicated that manufacture date was more than one year ago!! Idiots! Top is leaky, and sometimes the pot would not perk for the full amount of time. DO NOT BUY.....

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Looking, Great Coffee, but my top broke in 4 weeks.
I have all sorts of coffee devices: drip, bodum, grinders, urns, etc. It was time to buy a new coffee maker since my Krups drip machine was no longer giving me suitably hot flavorful coffee and coffee is very important to me (and my marriage.) I thought it was time to go retro - and go for a perculator w/ style. I've been quite happy w/ this Delonghi Device - as it produced wonderfully hot and delicious coffee. Well it would have been nice if there was an on/off switch - since you have to unplug it. Also, it's a little tricky getting the top off. Today, after using the pot for one month, the top plastic part cracked - making the unit basically useless. Let me tell you, it was bound to happen sooner or later. I sent an email to the company today, and I'm hoping for a replacement part because despite it's weaknesses and clearly it's fragility, I'm still real attached to it. Maybe I should have purchased the Dualit Product (not available at Amazon.com, yet) instead, but the price of the Dualit is more than twice the price of this DeLonghi.) I'd rate the product with5 stars if they replaced the plastic top w/ glass. Given it's very short life in my household, I have to give it only two stars - which is sad because it's still my favorite coffee pot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wow!A Hot Cup Of Joe
This machine makes very HOT and rich tasting coffee. It tastes like the kind they sell at coffee houses, only without the $4 tab. Even after adding lots of real heavy cream straight out of the fridge the coffee remains HOT. It's nothing like the warm stuff that comes from drip machines. And the taste is so much more complex. No wonder my grandmother served percolator coffee exclusively at her house.

Unlike some of the other reviewers I haven't had any problem with grounds in the coffee. That's using a can of coffee with a label that says it's okay for percolators.Larger size grounds don't fall through the basket and into the pot. It's also very simple to set up...takes like 10 seconds.

    The only things I'd change:

The lid is difficult to remove since it fits so tightly onto the pot.You have to twist it off from the metal band, not the tiny black knob on top and it takes a little elbow grease to remove it.

Thought I was getting an Italian made machine, but the box says it's made in China. Because of human rights issues and concerns about longevity based on reviews of other percolators that were manufactured there, that was an unpleasant surprise. But it comes with a one year warranty, so hopefully...After doing some research it appears that with the exception of Dualit, ALL percolators are made in China.Who knew? :-)

I've only had it for two days, but so far I love it! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

The Diamond Collection consists of five Marilyn Monroe films plus the documentary The Final Days. Bus Stop (1956) stars Monroe as a singer who finds herself trapped at a bus stop in the middle of nowhere during a blizzard. How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) was built around a trio of female stars, Monroe, Lauren Bacall, and Betty Grable, who play friends who come up with a plan to find and marry rich men. Monroe plays an ambitious showgirl in 1954's There's No Business Like Show Business, which brings together two giants of Broadway, Ethel Merman and Irving Berlin, to celebrate the glories that were vaudeville. Howard Hawks's 1953 musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes stars Monroe and Jane Russell as friends who go to Paris looking for mates. The film is charged by Hawks's stylish snap, a famous set piece or two (including Monroe descending that staircase while singing "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend"), Russell's wit, and songs by Leo Robin and Jule Styne. The Seven Year Itch (1955) is a memorable laugh machine. As a married man left alone during a hot summer, Tom Ewell shows off crack timing matched by Monroe's zesty comic flair, and the scene in which her white dress is blown skyward by a passing subway train has entered the encyclopedia of great movie images.

In The Final Days, producer-director Patty Ivins chronicles Monroe's final, aborted feature film, Something's Got to Give, which was ultimately shut down after the star was dismissed from the production. Beyond Monroe's fragile emotional and physical health, this well-crafted profile examines the financial crisis facing her studio as well as the mounting frustration of meticulous director George Cukor and his cast, including costar Dean Martin, as Monroe's absences drove the shoot over budget. The documentary concludes with a 40-minute reconstruction of footage completed for the feature, which would subsequently be reshot as a vehicle for Doris Day and James Garner, Move Over, Darling. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Marilyn was the sexy Lucy!
I have seen all these movies many times. I'm so happy they are all on a nice dvd collection. Marilyn shines as always in everything. Show Business is the least of my favorites but Marilyn does several great songs in this , well worth seeing her sing "After you get what you want" & "Heat Wave". The Final Days was really interesting , to see marilyn's last movie footage, that was never finished.I don't see the the "drug daze" as some have mentioned here". I think she looked great and seemed to have it all together other than forgeting a few lines and showing up late. It leaves alot to speculate as to what was really going on with Marilyn in her last days. Somethings Got to Give if finsihed would have been a cute 60's comedy, much like Doris Days films. Marilyn was on her way to becoming agreat comedian..

Add "Some Like it Hot", "Misfits", and "Prince and the Showgirl" "River of No Return" to this collection, and you will have the best of Marilyn's films.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marilyn At her Best
I particularly enjoyed Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and The 7 Year Itch. One has Marilyn singing Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend and The other's got the famous subway, skirt up in the air scene. In Gentlemen, she's fun and wise, not a dumb blonde at all and in The 7 Year Itch, she comes across as a genuine young woman who wants to boost Tom Ewell's morale.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Fall In Love With A Dead Woman
I'll confine this review to the disc,"Marilyn Monroe: The Final Days", which does not seem to be available elsewise in the United States. That said...

James Ellroy fans (and homicide cops) will tell you: Don't fall in love with a dead woman. It's an occupational hazard of theirs, and they know it well; it leads to heartbreak, ulcers, early retirement, or eating a hollowpoint. This DVD may present you with a bit of insight-maybe a little more than you have in mind-as to this state of affairs.

"Something's Got To Give", a remake of a story as old as silent theatrical film, was to have been a quick and profitable moneymaking project for 20th-Century Fox, who were in serious economic straits over the massively overbudget production of 'Cleopatra". It starred Marilyn Monroe, Cyd Charisse, and Dean Martin, and became a quagmire of its own due to problems with Marilyn and director George Cukor. Eventually MM was fired, Dean Martin refused to work with her replacement Lee Remick, MM rehired and production rescheduled when Marilyn was found dead at her house, 8/05/1962. Of course that ended the movie: its footage was put in a vault, essentially unmolested for forty years.

In 1999, American Movie Classics paid to have the extant footage built out as far as it would go, making a release that is in essence an abruptly ending 37 minutes of what would have been a roughly 90 minute film. The film quality is superb and the scenes marvelous, including the famous swimming pool sequence which would have been the first nude scene in an American theatrical release, at least since the days of the Hays code (as it turns out that honor went to MM emulator Jayne Mansfield in 1963's 'Promises,Promises'.)

There's the tough part. Marilyn Monroe, at the age of 35, is in the best shape of her life and is absolutely magnificent in this footage. When the film ends abruptly and rolls memoriam credits-as if on a Moviola-you are seeing her on the last theatrical film shot of her in her life, the last day of her career, June 1, 1962. Her thirty-sixth birthday.

Nine weeks later, she was dead.

I'll spare the details, except to say that I've never met a ME or homicide officer who thinks it was suicide (and I deal with police officers and departments for a living.) If thinking about her doesn't bother you a little, you may be missing something. I can't put it any other way. If you're a lukewarm MM fan, you might really not want to watch this, because the game isn't necessarily worth the candle. If you don't get her at all, think you're 'stone to the bone'. or are a serious fan wanting to see all there is of Marilyn, this DVD will likely be one of the most important you have ever watched. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars IT'S A GOOD MORNING WITH THIS JUICE SET
Even on the grayest, gloomiest days breakfast is appealing when juice is served in these cheery glasses.

The pitcher is a handy part of the set, but we seldom use it.When there are overnight guests it is attractive on the table, and allows all to have as much juice as they wish.

Glasses have heavy bottoms so they sit firmly, and are the right size to grasp.

We've given this set as a housewarming gift, and it has been received with much appreciation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodbye cheese jars!
I love this set! After many (20+) years of using old Kraft Cheese spread jars for juice glasses, I've finally got a decent set, I must be coming up in this world!!

4-0 out of 5 stars mmm, refreshing
the glasses are cute, but very small (they are little juice glasses).
good for summer picnics and barbeques.
they are quite heavy and will not tip over all the time.they also seem thick enough to not break too easily.

    Editorial Review

Elvis would have loved this toaster. With a brushed-metal finish like a customized '57 Chevy, chrome lift-levers and browning-control knobs, and control dials like old-time radios, it's lovingly and wittily retro. Functionally, however, it's 21st century. Four large slots, each 5-1/2 by 1-1/4 inches, handle bagels, English muffins, and thick gourmet breads as well as conventional bread. Slots are paired, each pair with its own lift-lever and browning control. Push a button, and bagels or English muffins toast only on one side. Push another button, and frozen bread automatically toasts a little longer to account for defrosting time. Slide open a crumb tray on the side and clean up with no hassle. At 12 by 11 by 8 inches, it's not compact, but, as was said about Elvis, when you've got it, flaunt it. --Fred Brack ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this toaster
Buyer beware!!! It looks good, but doesn't work. One side of the 4-slice toaster went out after a couple months of having it. We called the 800# that came with it. It took a few calls to reach anyone, we left messages and no one ever got back to us. Finally, we reached a live person and received a service # and address to send the toaster back for repair. After a couple months we called to find out where our toaster was. We left numerous messages and no one ever got back to us. I know they recieved it because they signed for it. Anyway, it's a year later and they still haven't returned our calls or the toaster!! We bought a 4-slice CuisinArt that we're very happy with, but we're out our original $79. Save yourself the agony, don't buy this toaster.

1-0 out of 5 stars looks aren't everything...
I have owned this toaster for 3 years. My family begs me to buy a different one.The reason I'm giving it even one star is because I love the retro styling & this appliance has received more compliments & comments than any I've ever owned.Aside from that, this is the sloooowest toaster. So slow, that you put in your toast & get doing 5 other things & forget that you even put toast in by the time it pops up.A friend of mine bought one because she loved the look also, even though I told her not to.She also wished she hadn't fallen for the looks as hers is equally PAINFULLY SLOW.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average performance, large footprint.
I purchased this toaster for it's retro styling. It's feel is rather cheap, it's performance is uneven and it's quite the spacehog.Previously had a Krups with two elongated slots ... so it could handle four standard slices or two long slices (like the incredible sliced Calandra my household loves).I should have stuck with the Krups until another two slot four slice came along.I'm back in the market again. ...
