    Editorial Review

This chopper from Zyliss will make quick work of most small and medium chopping tasks, and, thanks to the unique comfort top, it won't bruise hands if lots of chopping is being done. The chopper stands 10-1/2 inches tall, with a 3-1/2-inch base, and is constructed of sturdy plastic and stainless steel, with a stainless-steel chopping blade. It's easy to use--just place the food in the base container and position the chopper snugly in the base. Then tap the top a few times until food is the desired size. The rustproof, stainless-steel blade rotates automatically after each tap. Since the chopping is contained in the base, the amount of mess is minimal. Also, the 1-cup base container comes with a lid for easy storing of chopped food. For simple cleanup, the sides of the chopper are hinged and the whole thing can go into the dishwasher. --A.J. 2-0 out of 5 stars yes, it chops, but not good with cleanup.
I was initially excited to use this product for chopping, but was disappointed with it in the end. (Luckily it was just a gift.) It does chop up items, but not without equalor greater effort that you might use to cut things on a cutting board. I tried to use walnuts, and they become lodged up in the blades. I honestly can't wedge them out now, so it's not easy to clean. A better option for efficient chopping: get a ulu (cutting board and knife/blade)and you can cut things quickly because you don't have to hold them and cleanup is easy.

5-0 out of 5 stars probably the most used gadget in my kitchen
I have had a lot of different choppers and not been pleased with any. This is the BEST! I use it daily, from garlic to onions to nuts.. you name it.. it goes in there. When I'm done I disassemble and throw it in the dishwasher. I have two and have not had a problem with either. If you want things in big chunks, you only press the plunger a couple times.. really fine, keep going. It does a wonderful job and no kitchen, in my opinion, should be without one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Wayyyy overpriced!
The first time I tried this chopper was in the middle of throwing a dinner party -- I was making salsa fresca and needed to chop lots of tomatoes, onions, and cilantro -- what a MESS!The chopper handles "crisp" things like apples and onions and raw potatoes okay (unfortunately, only in very small quantities, so it's usually more time-efficient to just do them by hand), but with anything slightly softer like tomatoes -- forget it.It's also sort of a pain to clean.I'd price this item at $5.99 and THEN consider recommending it! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Poor construction
I usually rave about kitchenaid products, but this one has been problematic from day one.The little chrome handle fell off the first time I used it. A real pain to keep putting the turning handle back on.After the first few uses, the handle hinge broke off so that the grater had to be held together while attempting to use it.Too much pressure required to shred all but the softest cheese, and now, after less than a year, the crank broke off on one of the graters so the entire thing is USELESS...into the trash it went.I'm the eternal optimist so I'm gong to spring for the battery powered one I saw in another catalog.Don't waste your money on this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is not KitchenAid quality
Don't be fooled by this apparently well-designed grater. The hinge is weak and will break. The grater looks and feels great, but don't expect it to last.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality
My grater broke after a year of occasional use. This is now the second plastic grater I have wasted my money on.I will spend the extra $$$ for a metal rotary grater now! ... Read more

Le Creuset 7-Piece Spatula Set with Crock, White

    Editorial Review

Le Creuset's brightly colored, virtually indestructiblesilicone spatulas created a buzz when they were first introduced. Nowthis set combines six white ones in a complementary stoneware storagecrock. Not only will these spatulas serve every cooking need, butthey'll add a splash of color to any kitchen. Durable, flexible, andstain-resistant, the spatulas endure incredible temperatures--800degrees F and 425 degrees C--without melting or discoloring. Thespatulas: one tapered, slotted spoon spatula (3-1/2 inches long and2-1/2 inches wide at its base); two solid spoon spatulas (3-1/2 inches by2-5/8 inches and 2-7/8 inches by 2-1/8 inches); and three scrapingspatulas of different widths (2 inches, 1-3/8 inches, and 1 inch). Thehandsome white crock stands 5-7/8 inches high, and its flared mouth is5 inches in diameter, providing plenty of room for tools other than thespatulas. The spatulas' heads slide off their wooden handles to go intoa dishwasher, but hand washing is more convenient. --Fred Brack ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You probably don't need all of these!
I bought this set about three years ago and I simply would not cook without them. I am as enthusiastic as other reviewers who have given this set five stars, except that I only really use two out of the six pieces.

If I had to do it over, I would buy the very attractive pot and three each of the medium sized spoonula and the small spatula. I simply do not use the others. They are gathering dust as we speak.

Now if your cooking is a bit different than mine, you may have different needs, but I cook or bake four or five times a week, and I simply do not use 2/3 of this set. And, it is only the spoonula which gets used in high heat environments.

For room temperatures, I often find more use for a spatula which is a lot stiffer than these silicone plastics.

I recommend you find some way of buying only the pot and six of the medium spoonulas! Even these wear out from small nicks and cuts over time, and you do not want to find yourself without one at hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Set
I bought this same set at an outlet mall (much better price, but same product).

They are very well built and have stood up to just about anything I can throw at them from heat to various sauces. They have never melted, scorched or stained so far! Even though they have wood handles, there is a protective finish that keeps them from staining. I did place one through the dishwasher (not recommended) and it came out fine too.

They have replaced all of my miscellaneous pieces I have had laying around and now I have an attractive addition to my kitchen as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait...
I saw this set in the blue on Amazon just before Christmas for the amazing price of $34.99. Knowing how much these normally are I quickly ordered them and was told they were on backorder and would be shipped to me when they were available. For that price, I would wait as long as it took to get them! I finally got them early February and they are worth the wait. I have used them everyday since receiving them and I wonder how I did without them. I wish I'd ordered my mother a set at the same time I ordered my set. ... Read more

    HotSpot Silicone Pot Holder, Yellow
Average Customer Review: 3.0 out of 5 stars
    Kitchen (27 August, 2003)
    list price: $6.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

This silicone pot holder lifts hot pots off the stove or casserole dishes from the oven without fear of burning fingers or dropping cookware. This pot holder also serves as a smaller trivet to keep Formica or Corian countertops from melting, blistering, or scratching; prevents smaller mixing bowls and cutting boards from sliding during use; and functions as a jar opener and garlic peeler. Measuring 7 inches square, this pot holder has a patterned silicone surface that firmly grips pot handles or jar lids even when wet and is heat-resistant to 675 degrees Fahrenheit. This pot holder is flexible enough to roll up and store compactly in a drawer or has a hole in one corner to hang from a hook. This product comes in a rainbow of different colors and is dishwasher-safe. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good idea --- but a little awkward
Pros: They are very easy to keep clean. Accidentally dip the corner in your dish? It washes right off! No need to launder.

Cons: They take some getting used too. The silicone is a bit stiff, so bending it to get a good grip on something can take a little practice.

1-0 out of 5 stars I've gotten more burns since using these!
Like most avid bakers I can use a lot of potholders and so when I was looking for replacements I saw these and that what a good idea, boy was I wrong!

The biggest problem is grabbing anything with them, they slip and slide and either they punch holes in what I'm baking or they slip and suddenly my flesh is on the hot pan! They are very difficult to use and I wish somebody had addressed this when I was looking at reviews of these things.

I'm not a klutz, but trying to grab hot things with these things will make you feel like one, right after you run for the Burn Free ointment!

Seemingly a great idea, but they have some big drawbacks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but stuff still gets HOT!!!!
These potholders are waaaayyy better than regular cloth ones. They are handy as jar openers and as trivets but the one drawback that I have found is that if you have to hold a hot pot straight out of the oven for more than 60 seconds, the heat comes through the silicone and becomes unbearable. While it won't burn you, it is uncomfortable enough to want to drop the pot. While most people probably don't have far to transport the heated food, I live next door to my sister and frequently have dinner together.Getting the food next door entails me to use towels and the potholder together. The first time I used just the potholders, I nearly dropped my Le Creuset pot!Otherwise, they are a good buy and very attractive. What happened to the pink ones???? ... The first bowl you'll reach for when whipping up a birthday cake or a batch of frosting, this stainless-steel bowl is especially useful when working with ingredients that should stay chilled. Simply pop the bowl in the freezer for a few minutes before using, and your cream will whip much more quickly. The sturdy lip of the bowl makes a firm grip easy to maintain. This bowl is really designed to be a true kitchen workhorse. It holds up well to a variety of temperatures, and you can pop it in the dishwasher as necessary. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I want to give this 3...
because it does not fit my needs, but that would not be fair. yes it is an excellent bowl, and way better then I expected. A bit pricy though for a bowl.I looked at the ones locally, and while the quality is much less, they would have fit my needs fine. I do love this bowl but I would not ever need one this good.On the plus side, with this quality I can let the kids play with it too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Essential: Amco Bowl--6-Quart
Amco is a commercial line of heavy duty stainless steel products that are used in restaurant and home kitchens. I have a set of less expensive stainless steel bowls, but I packed them away when I discovered the Amco bowls. I like the idea that I can purchase exactly the size bowls that I need for cooking and baking.

This Amco 6-Quart Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl is a convenient size. The flat bottom on this bowl means that you can place it on a counter (on top of a damp flour sack kitchen towel would prevent any slippage). There are many times you will want to use this bowl instead of using your stand mixer for making easy bread, muffin, brownie, and cake mix recipes from boxes, using an electric hand mixer or a wooden spoon. For example, chocolate brownie mixes usually recommend 50 stirs by hand, so you can hold the bowl by the rim with one hand and stir with the other.

Highly recommended! These bowls are dishwasher-safe, too.

    4-0 out of 5 stars Convenient !
