The gas ignition system--which cannot be used for gas grilling--lights your fire at the push of a button. The cooking surface (22-1/2 inches in diameter) is big enough to accommodate six large steaks, twice as many burgers, or up to a dozen kebabs, and the grill's classic kettle shape keeps flare-ups to a minimum. The grill is durable, too. The porcelain-coated steel bowl and lid are exceptionally strong and designed never to rust, fade, or peel. The grill's aluminum vents and ash catcher won't rust either, and the tripod base, nylon handles, and all-weather wheels--besides being exceptionally sturdy--make the grill remarkably easy to maneuver. Twenty-eight-year-old writer-director George Tillman Jr. drew autobiographical inspiration from his upbringing in Milwaukee, and on a well-spent $6.5 million budget he succeeded where similar films (including Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back) fell short: He depicts his many characters with such depth and sympathy that, by the time they have weathered several family crises, we've come to care and feel for them and the powerful ties that bind them together. As seen through the eyes of Tillman's young alter ego Ahmad (Brandon Hammond), the film primarily focuses on the rivalries and affections that rise and fall among Ahmad's mother (Vivica A. Fox) and her two sisters (Vanessa L. Williams, Nia Long). Through them, and through the weekly Sunday dinners cooked with love by their mother, Big Mama (Irma P. Hall), we witness marital bliss and distress, infidelity, success, failure... in short, the spices of life both bitter and sweet. But when Big Mama falls into a diabetic coma, Ahmad watches as his family begins to fall apart without the stability and love that Big Mama provided with every Sunday meal. Tillman's touch can be overly nostalgic, melodramatic, and cloyingly sentimental, but never so much that the movie loses its firm grip on reality. As a universal portrait of family life, Soul Food ranks among the very best films of its kind--believable, funny, emotional, and always approaching its characters (well-played by a uniformly excellent cast) with a generous spirit of forgiveness and understanding. Cast iron, simple, fuel-efficient. Draft door for heat-control. Upper flip-door for adding / managing coals. 2 cooking levels (flip footed-grill). All you really need. This grill is made of heavy cast iron (emphasis on heavy).The base of the grill is painted with heat resistant black paint, while the removable grills (where the charcoal and food sit) are untreated cast iron.They will have to be seasoned or they will rust if exposed to rain or humidity.If it does rust, just take a wire brush and scrub the rust off, and slather it up with shortening and cook something (or throw it into the oven at 350 degrees for an hour).A few iterations of this and the grill will almost be non-stick. This is a hassle in the beginning, but if you take care of it, this grill will outlast you and probably your children.After I figured out it had to be seasoned, I haven't had any trouble with rust. Also, the top grill has legs that rest on the base.You can flip this over, effectively adjusting the grill height down two inches towards the coals. To give you an idea on the size, I was able to cook about 2.5 lbs of hamburger meat shaped into seven largish patties at the same time. Although I was worried about the whole thing heating up, the base didn't heat up enough to do any damage to the wooden picnic table.In fact, I could touch the base without burning myself.However, if you are going to a tailgate party with this grill, I would bring along a piece of sheet rock or plywood to set it up on, as extra insurance. ... This mini-bear muffin pan falls into the "Why didn't someone think of this before?" category.Children really perk up when they see it and discover they can make muffins or cakes in the shape of one of their favorite toys. It is non-stick, and we've had absolutely no problems with it - only pure fun and pleasure.
1. Although the pan is described as non-stick, it is safer to still grease the pan. 2. As with many specialty shaped cake pans, you need to pay close attention to the cakes while baking. Certain edges, such as the bears ears, will bake more quickly than the rest of the shape. Caution is needed or your bears might end up with burnt ears. 3. It might be a good idea to buy 2 of these pans. Most standard cake recipes will make more batter than 1 of these pans can hold.
