2-0 out of 5 stars Looks nice but I wish I had bought a different one
I bought this based upon the reviews that said it didn't leak. They are wrong. I have used it three times and it leaks when you shake it. If I had bought it at Target, it would be returned. Kohls has one with a gasket. I would buy that one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Stylish but Lacking in Functionality
I got this thing out of the box and was really impressed with it's looks but the fun stopped there. While I was checking my nice little chrome shaker out I tilted it to the side and the top proceeded to fall off.Worried, I put some ice and a bit of simulated gin (H20) inside, gave it a few shakes and it leaked everywhere.Good thing this wasnt real gin! I dont know if this is just mine but I wasnt impressed with the the functionality.Going with Oneida.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elegant in its Simplicity
This shaker will bring out the dashing martini or margarita drinker in just about anyone.Looking to impress chicks with your suave mastery of the bar - this will do the trick. Looks great, chills drinks, and of course goes well with cool glassware (invest in Martini glasses or margarita glasses). You don't have to worry about spillage and the built in strainer makes any drink easy. Now if I just had a cool tray to put all of this stuff on. Seriously though, it's a great addition and will make you more likely to tinker with what's in your bar, as opposed to reaching for yet another beer. ... Read more

This is the blender of the future. It performs all thetraditional blending tasks (crushing ice for margaritas, thinning icecream) plus it can be used like a food processor (mincing garlic, puréeing peppers). The wide jar is rounder and squatter thanold-style blenders, which makes it easier to reach in and scrape thesides (when the blender is off!). To reduce splatters of strawberrydaiquiri, the Step Start feature starts blending slowly, then picks upto the chosen speed. This blender also comes with a booklet containing75 recipes--my favorite is the Frosty Chocolate Raspberry Latt&eacute.--Dana Van Nest

Editor's Choice:KitchenAid's five-speed blender has a number offunctions that set it above the crowd as our choice for best blenderunder $100. It starts with the five speed settings and the pulsefunction, which works at any of the speeds--a really nice touch. Theblender's 40-ounce glass jar has a squat shape, making it moremanageable than taller blenders, and comes completely apart. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Superbly designed blender
I bought a red one as a Mother's Day gift, but I tried it out just to see if it was worth the price. It didn't disappoint me.
Mom has gone through cheaper blenders at the rate of one every 8 months. This one has the power as evidenced by the much heavier motor base. Jar has plenty of capacity though some fruit lumps will lodge under the blade. Stirring with a chopstick should dislodge the occasional lump. For those who complain about the worn out teeth - you're overloading the machine! Begin in the pulse mode to break up the contents into small pieces before liquifying it - this will prevent motor burnout and the stripping of the teeth. A cheaper blender would have burned out sooner!

1-0 out of 5 stars Rubber Drive Teeth Don't Last
We have had this blender foryears now.We bought it after seeing one that our friends owned. We have used it for milk shakes, smoothies, and crushing ice.Honestly, we loved it.Then the blender our friends owned died. The rubber teeth used to turn the blade disintegrated. We felt bad for them, but never thought such a fate waited for us.Today our rubber drive teeth crumbled into dust.Garbage.Very badly engineered.Don't buy one if longevity means anything to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME...what's with all these competitors' SHILL reviews?
After my Krups died (lasted 4 years) I did a ton of research before I bought this blender, and in the end the choice was just too obvious: there is no other blender in this price range with this amount of sheer power, not even close.

The KitchenAid just blows away the competition from Cuisinart to Braun to Oster to Waring. It certainly was a night and day difference from my old Krups, which took about 3 times longer to do the same work (pureeing 35 oz of bananas and oatmeal with 5 oz of soy milk and yogurt). My sister has the Cuisinart 600watt model and it was also no comparison.

So what sold me on the KitchenAid, despite all the one-star single-reviewers?(NOTE: sure sign of paid shills, aside from the anonymous ones---only one review to their entire history or all their reviews praise one brand and/or attack another brand.)

1.Weight.Simple and consistent indicator of good quality in any electronic device (including speakers, receivers, etc.) is the sheer heft and weight of the thing---I went to a local housewares shop and simply lifted each and every display model. The KitchenAid easily outweighs all the others by almost double.

2.Blade.The KitchenAid's blades are bigger, thicker, and more multi-level than the competition's.Goes through everything in a jiffy.

3.Ease of pitcher movement: very easy to put the pitcher on the machine and take it off, zero twisting---just set it straight down.

4.Nice thick glass on the pitcher.Looks like you could kill somebody with the thing!

My dislikes:

1.Pitcher is only 40oz, my old Krups had a 50oz pitcher.

2.Plastic/rubber lid is kind of a pain to put on and take off, it's so darn tight.

3.I wish they would just have the simple flip switch controls that the VitaMix blenders have...without the VitaMix price tag, of course!

Now I have to say that I've only had this blender for about a month, but my neighbor has had his for two years and has never had the kinds of problems that many of the MYSTERY reviewers here claim, and the guy is a margarita fiend.

Hmmmm...could this just be a case of badmouthing the competition? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, literate, entertaining, and informative
This book all the basic information you'd expect from a bartending guide: glassware, tools, alcohol, mixers, and a few hundred pages of clear, no-nonsense recipes. So far, so good.

Two factors, however, distinguish this book from others like it: its organization and its snappy, literate prose.

The Bartender's Bible is intelligently organized by main ingredient. It has separate chapters for bourbon, gin, tequila, vodka, rum, brandy, and whiskey, as well as several chapters for other broad categories such as "Hot Drinks" and "Cordials."This makes a lot of sense for the way most of us use a book like this -- you have a bottle of Bacardi, for example, and want to discover a few novel drinks that use rum. It's then a simple matter of turning to Chapter 5 and stumbling upon the recipe for a Cuba Libre, or a Maestro, or a Rum Sour, or dozens of other rum drinks that might strike your fancy.Or if you can't quite remember the name of that tequila concoction you were served last summer in Cozumel, just flip to Chapter 7 and thumb through until you find it.(Of course, if you know the name of a particular drink, there's a handy alphabetized index in the back.)

This guide is the best on the market, however, because of Regan's skill as a writer."Drinking," he muses, "has to do with friendship, good times, warm and tender moments, camaraderie, celebration, commiseration, birth and death, sealing a deal, remembering a friend -- the very things that life itself is about."He is equally entertaining when describing how bourbon is made as he is when remembering the warmth and laughter of his own favorite pub back in Lancashire.

You could, in other words, read the narrative sections of this book and be charmed without ever consulting the recipes even once.Do yourself a favor and get the hardback or spiral edition -- this one is bound to get dog-eared from constant use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great collection of bar drinks
We have enjoyed this little book to the point the pages are wearing. It is a handy collection of drink recipes & tips like what items you should have in your home bar, origins of types of alcohol & other interesting information. It is the only bar book we have and we have used it frequently to try new things & to prepare drinks for visitors.Every recipe we have tried has been great!

It is a great deal for the price & so far the only bar book we need for our small home bar.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book, but not the latest drinks included.
THIS BOOK IS GREAT FOR THE BEGINNER...NOT FOR THE SEMI PROFESSIONAL BARTENDER, OR PROFESSIONAL, NOR FOR THE EXPERIENCED HOME BARTENDER. MOST BOOKS HAVE MORE DRINKS TO OFFER, WITH BOOKS LIKE THE BARTENDERS BLACK BOOK WHICH IS MORE USER FRIENDLY AND HAS MORE THAN TWICE AS MANY RECIPES I WOULD RATHER SPEND THE DIFFERENCE. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Practical, No Frills Guide
This guide presents all the major drinks in an easy to read guide that fits discretely into your back pocket -- a nice helper for new bartenders.Unlike those big books that would be embarrassing for a bartender to thumb through in front of a customer, one can discretely pull this out while turned away from a customer and quickly confirm drink ingredients. This guide does not contain recipes for hip new drinks, but is good on the basics and a helpful backup to new bartenders.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clearly stated
This is very simple with easy-to-follow drink recipes.I didn't give it the full 5 stars only because there were some common drinks not listed.Otherwise, it is a fantastic little cheat sheet to keep behind the bar!

We have used this convenient bartender's guide at many parties and it has never failed to please the pickiest of guests. Its size is a big plus because it is easy to hang next to the measuring spoons and you won't looseit. It also makes a good gift for birthdays or as a stocking stuffer. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The Canon Elph 2 is one of the world's smallest Advanced Photo System cameras equipped with a 2x zoom lens. Even though it is constructed of durable stainless steel, it still weighs a mere 6 ounces and is about the size of a deck of cards. It is a fully automatic point-and-shoot that you can take anywhere.

The Canon Elph 2 has an all-glass aspherical lens with hybrid autofocus, automatic exposure control, a built-in flash with red-eye reduction, and intuitive film speed setting. It also offers a 10-second self-timer that is compatible with an optional RC-5 remote. Along with these foolproof features, you get the ease of use of the APS format, which includes drop-in film loading, midroll change, and an array of other user-friendly features. You can choose among three print formats--classic, group, or panoramic--as well as a number of date imprint options.

The Canon Elph 2 operates on a lithium CR-2 battery. This kit includes a battery, a carrying case, a strap, and a roll of film so you can start snapping pictures right away. The kit also includes a one-year manufacturer's warranty on parts and labor. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera, poor pic quality w/ Kodak film
I've switched over to a Canon digi-cam, but I used the Elph 2 for a couple of years.During those years, pictures taken on on the Elph 2, just never turned out right. They were either grainy, suffered from color saturation, red-eye, you name it.That is until I discovered the magic of Fuji film.I had up until that time used Kodak Avantix APS film exclusively, believing that paying more meant better quality.Wrong!Fuji film is not only much cheaper, but my prints were awesome in every way possible. In fact, my last set of photos were taken on the streets of Las Vegas during the late-night hours, plus lots of indoor pictures in a dimly lit room with the shades drawn...but every picture turned out, if you will, picture perfect.I can't bash Kodak, because it's the only film I've ever used, and bottom line, it's the best. But when it comes to the Canon Elph 2, you should switch to Fuji film.I guarantee, you'll see the difference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Point and Shoot on Market
I bought this camera 3 1/2 years ago to take with me when I moved to Germany. It's small enough to fit in your jeans pocket, but makes cleaner and better quality prints than I've seen in a point and shoot camera. It was very durable and lasted several years of use overseas, and I'm still enjoying its compact size and light weight here in the states. If you are in any way intimidated by the digital camera age, and would like a small, versatile APS camera, this is it!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT Little Camera!
I have owned this camera for about 3 years, and am still surprised in the quality of photographs I get from it! We recently returned from Maui, where a photo can make or break a beautiful memory. Most, if not all, of our photos from this trip are frameable, they are SO beautifully crisp and clear! It does a great job in any of the three modes it offers. The film loads and unloads easier than any camera I've ever operated, and the flash is automatic, so you don't even have to think about it.

The only complaint I've ever had is that it doesn't zoom very far, but that is a small sacrifice for such great photos from this little wonder! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!
Like most people, I think I have great need for a leatherman/swiss army knife type contraption but in reality have very little use for them. However, this one is great. The "picnic" uses make it better for me:cork screww, cheese knife, cutting knife.I've used it often on simple urban picnics. I've also taken it camping and it fit every need in my week in the woods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Swiss Army Knife with Balls
This thing is absolutely great. It has all the most commonly used appliances as well as a can and bottle opener and even a cork screw... Work hard, Play hard...this is the one. Its also built with typical Leatherman quality which has always been exceptional. I install Satellite TV for a living and I honestly pulled this thing out a dozen times the very first day I had it. I swear by it...P.S. I bought it at the largest knife shop in the world and its still about 20% cheaper on Amazon...My mistake.

2-0 out of 5 stars Need some improvements
I am new owner of this tool and I admit the idea is brilliant compare to GERBER's for compactness, but the linkage mechanism should be RIVETING not BOLTING. I feel so uneasy whenever I use it since the bolts are easily untied and gone away.
If I tie up the bolt, the returning procedure of each tool is very stiff which is very dangerous especially for using knife.
All I found it useful is bottle/can opener because of it.
I sugest the leatherman people to improve it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Serve your best gin and tonic or homemade lemonade in these glasses. They look great empty, so just imagine how they'll look with ice, thinly cut slices of lime, and a favorite beverage peeking out. This is not fussy glassware, but in its simplicity it's really handsome. The bottoms are thick and have a signature bubble--they look like they're hand-blown. They also have a great heft, which adds to the pleasure of using them, and are versatile, too. Wonderful for a healthy serving of milk or juice, they'll also hold a sparkling soda with ice, and their smooth rolled rim is nice for sipping. Plop them into the dishwasher, and they'll continue to dazzle over time. --C. Whitney-Ward ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but somewhat fragile....
I love the way these glasses look.Unfortunately, one day I opened up the Dishwasher and found that one was broken. There was nothing around it to hit itself on, but either the pressure or something cracked the top of it.So, as much as I love these glasse, I'd recommend handwashing them. Overall great though...

5-0 out of 5 stars marvelous!
Heavy, sturdy, classy (the bubble in the base is cute!), these glasses should be a part of everyman's basic bar set-up.You can buy fancier, pricier glasses, but there's no need to do so.A classic item, should give many years of happy service.

The clean andsimple cut of this glass also lends it an elegance that makes it anexcellent choice for parties and more formal occasions. Those of you whohand wash your glassware will be pleased to know these glasses are wideenough to easily get your hand and cleaning sponge in to wash them ! ...
