This nifty device slices garlic cloves while keeping fingersfree of their aromatic oil. It readily accommodates up to three fatcloves and is spring-loaded so slices are thin and uniform. Thestainless-steel cutter has three blades for quick work. The slicer ismade of heavy, clear acrylic, with a rubber grip around its middle soit won't slip even when hands are wet. The top twists off, garliccloves go into three slots in the bottom, the top twists back on, andthen the chrome knob is turned to slice the garlic. The slicer stands5-3/4 inches high on a 2-1/2-inch-diameter base and should be handwashed in soapy water. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good quality, does nicely, an effective gadget
Works very nicely for its intended purpose. So far, quality seems very good. I have grown to trust the Bodum name, again especially when considering the price. As long as you buy it right, this is a cost effective gadget for keeping your hands clean. I bought 3 for gifts.

5-0 out of 5 stars The power of garlic without the oils on your skin
While at a friends and wanting more garlic in my dinner, I got to use this baby.I LOOOVE this. When cooking I am such of a fan of garlic, there is no such thing as to much garlic, is there? My only complaint about using fresh garlic is the smell of the garlic, which I love, just not permeated into my skin, not enjoyable to startle myself awake when I put my garlic infused hand over my sleeping face. I do so much more prefer the odiferous smells of fresh garlic to the powdered or salted versions on, market shleves. But I was so impressed by this simple little beauty, I put it on my wishlist, trying not to break down and buy it myself.

Anyhow, it does such a great job at giving perfect slices for my rice,it was heavenly. And to repeat myself, it was so great not to have the smell on my hands or the counter. It cleans up easily to, even better.

If I carried a bigger purse, I would have taken this little jewel home with me!!I'd give this 10 stars, but am limited to a mere 5. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Everybody loves the flavor of garlic--except, perhaps, in the morning'smilk or orange juice. Bodum's nifty plastic container stores either fresh orcooked garlic without transmitting odors to the rest of your refrigerator orkitchen. Use it to store chopped garlic for a quick way to spice up weeknightmeals, or keep a head of roasted garlic on hand to squeeze onto pasta or bread.Either way, the Bodum garlic dome offers an ingenious solution to a very pungentproblem. --Mary Park ... 1-0 out of 5 stars What is the point
Although it may seem ike a good idea, you need not, nor really should, store garlic in the refidge or inside a plastic or glass dome.I have not used this gadget, but looking at it I assume moisture would build inside of the dome, BAD for the garlic.I keep mine in a little paper bag in a bowl on the counter.I use a paper bag only because my bird is quite fond of nibbling on things, and she seems quite fond of garlic.I must agree with the first review of this item, it is unnecessary and possibly a bad idea.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unnecessary and possibly a bad idea
Although it will not hurt garlic to store it in the refrigerator, there is no need to do so.Any reasonably cool (room temperature) place will do.Furthermore, garlic is best stored where air can circulate around it.Moisture can build up in a container like the Bodum Garlic Dome, promoting the growth of mold.Experts recommend a basket, possibly in a drawer. We just keep ours on a small plate on the kitchen counter, where it seems to keep fine. ... Editorial Review

There are a couple of really nice things going for this ceramic garlic keeper by Norpro: it's good-looking, yet restrained in its Old World ornamentation; and while it will never contain that entire Costco mesh bag of Gilroy, California's chief crop, it will provide optimal storage conditions for three or four larger heads of garlic (not including the jumbo-sized but deceptively mild elephant garlic). Firm, plump, heavy heads with unbroken, tight, papery skin deserve a dry, cool (but not refrigerated), well-ventilated 'hood, something this 5-inch-high garlic keeper provides with a touch of Italian élan. --Tony Mason ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful size - but would not buy thru mail order.
I'm really glad to have this garlic keeper. It's a perfect size. However, I purchased 2 keepers as gifts and they were both chipped. Amazon quickly replaced them even though I didn't expect them to. I had only filled out the exchange forms to find out what it would cost me to exchange them. Unfortunately, the replacements were badlychipped, also. So, I would highly recommend this garlic keeper, but ONLY if you can find it in a local store and that is why I'm only rating this with 3 stars. If it weren't for the chipped garlic keepers, I rate with 5 stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Buyer
I am pleased with the size and capacity of this Garlic Keeper, however the blue decorative accents appear crude at best; incomplete rings and a missed spot on the top knob.A great idea, but the quality is lacking for the price asked.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeper of the Garlic
Such a pretty vase. OH, it is used to store garlic, how practicl.I saw this at a store, and am going to get one.I usually just store garlic in a bowl, which since it is not covered like this lovely vase, my bird also gets to enjoy the Garlic. But his not only puts it 'away', it is also decorative. ... This isn't going to save you time.I have this thing in my kitchen and it never gets used.

5-0 out of 5 stars No More Grandma Hands
    Pros:
    + It works.
    + Your hands don't smell like grandma's
    + No more unintentional crushing
    + No dangerous knife-slapping

    Cons:
    - After about 4 large cloves, the 'garlic paper' sticks to the inside.(You can shake it out and keep going.)
    - Not as sexy as slapping a big chef's knife
    - Single-purpose gadget

5-0 out of 5 stars Pricey but worth it
Yes, the price is kind of steep considering what this item probably costs the manufacturer but hey...isn't that what capitalism is all about -- figuring out how to inexpensively produce something that's incredibly useful? And that's exactly what the garlic peeler is.We love cooking with garlic, but neither one of us ever got the "whack with a knife" trick to really work.Consequently, peeling garlic was a tedious, time-consuming, and messy chore. No more.Pop the clove into the tube, roll the tube a few times across the counter and voila! The garlic, she is peeled.Having to rinse out the tube after every few peelings is nowhere near as time-consuming as it was to peel garlic the old-fashioned way. This is one of those terrific gift items for anyone who even occasionally cooks with garlic. They'd never make the purchase themselves, but once they have this, they will wonder how they got along without it. ... The mechanics of this garlic peeler are so simple, you’ll wonder how you lived without one for so long. Honored at the January 2003 Housewares Show as one of the best products of the year, this peeler is quick and effortless at removing skin from garlic cloves. The tool is shaped like a bulb of garlic in a fun, festive color. Cooks simply drop up to three cloves at a time into the bulb and roll it back and forth across their work surface. The peeler flips inside out to remove the peeled cloves, keeping hands free of garlic odors. This kitchen tool is made of FDA-approved food-grade silicone, which provides a non-skid interior surface that gently pulls peels away from the garlic. SilconeZone’s revolutionary tool turns inside-out for cleaning in the dishwasher and is covered by a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Get the regular "roll" kind instead
I bought one of these from Macy's a while ago.Since it's a little cheaper than the other roll type (looks like a toilet paper cardboard tube), I thought I'd give it a try.I had two heads of garlic to peel, and I tried to use this garlic peeler to shuck cloves. It really didn't do anything, didn't matter how many cloves were in the ball at a time.

The way these are supposed to work is that the rubber surface has enough friction to get the garlic peel to stick to it - you do have to roll it on a flat surface in order to crack the peel from the garlic.Unfortunately, because this peeler is round and a little too big, it can't generate enough friction to actually take off the peel.Perhaps this one is supposed to be used differently, but you can't figure that out from the instructions.

Pros: neat looking design, kinda fun to play with, easy to clean (rinse with water)
Cons: doesn't peel garlic, instructions not helpful

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work that well...
I use a lot of garlic for cooking and I've been wanting a peeler. I was disappointed that this peeler did not really get the peel off. Save a couple bucks- just pop your garlic cloves in the microwave for 10 seconds. Peel comes off easy!

4-0 out of 5 stars 2003 Housewares Show, Best Product of the Year
This seems like the same basic idea as the Zak Designs E-Z-Roll Garlic Peeler, same company, so duh!But this one is cute in design. It looks as though the cloves will not roll out of the bulb as you are peeling the cloves. The E-Roll looks like the cloves may roll out. This little beauty was also named one of the best products of the year at 2003 Housewares Show, which gives memore reason to want to try it and give it a FULL rating. But speaking as one who has peeled much garlic and had the smell on my hands for days, thiese rollers both seem like one of those "Why did I not think of that" ideas. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cubed garlic without little mess
How wonderful it is to cut up garlic into perfect and uniform cubes ready to sautee, grill on meats, toss in potatoes, casseroles or into a salad. And the best part, no smelly hands utensils or plates to clean, just the machine itself, which can be a bit annoying, but more than worth the trouble.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest invention since sliced bread!
If you love garlic like I do but dislike the tedious chore of chopping it in tiny little pieces (forget garlic presses -- all they do is squeeze out the juice and leave all of the garlic inside), you will LOVE this device. It literally chops your garlic into uniform, miniscule squares and leaves your hands and your cutting boards smelling like....well, hands and cutting boards, not garlic. My only complaint is that the steel grate at the bottom is very difficult to clean.Little garlic pieces get stuck on it and they're difficult to get to from the inside, and the outside is SHARP.I don't consider this minor annoyance a deterrent from purchasing the garlic cutter, because there's nothing else on the market (that I know of) that performs the same task. ... This large garlic press quickly squeezes out up to three cloves of garlic at a time or one clove of elephant garlic for making pesto or homemade broth and doesn’t even require you to peel the cloves. The plunger is designed to press out the maximum amount of garlic and juice so little goes to waste and to prevent peelings from slipping through the press. The ergonomically designed handle provides better leverage during pressing and more comfortable squeezing. This garlic press comes with a cleaning tool with prongs for cleaning out the holes and a flat end for scooping out peelings. 5-0 out of 5 stars This thing is great
THere's a lot to like about this garlic press. It's a great timesaver: just pop the cloves in, skins and all and out pops crushed garlic.Much faster than peeling and chopping, and you get all the valuable juice from the garlic as well. This jumbo sized model is an improvement over the original (which I've used): large cloves can go straight in without needing to halved first. And smaller cloves can go in 2 at a time. Finally, the cleaning tool makes cleaning the holes of the press a snap.

This does take a bit of strength to operate, so those with very small hands or arthritis may not be able to use this well. But if that's not a concern, you can't go wrong with this press.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
It has made my cooking so much faster and more efficient!I can't believe I used to chop the stuff by hand.If you've got a REALLY strong hand grip, it also works for mincing ginger root btw.:-)

1-0 out of 5 stars Just another garlic press that does not work
Does not work because the holes are too small. I tried to press onepealed garlic and I used all my strengh still no crushed garlic came out of it. I asked for my husband's help and he almost broke it because he was pressing it so hard. This time just a meager amound of garlic came out of it most of it stayed jamed inside the press. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Garlic Press out there
This is by far the best garlic press. It is sturdy and very easy to clean.I have tried many other brands and they can't compare to the superior job that the Wusthof does! I have bought them for many friends and relatives and they agree,it's a winner!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very sturdy
This one fell apart after 3 uses.It can not be that I used to much pressure, my hand is weak and damaged, so I htink it was the design.Everyone else seems happy with theirs, so maybe I got a lemon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta have my (Henckels) garlic (press).
This a wonderful manual tool to have in your kitchen. This garlic press is solidly made, well-balanced, and feels good in the hand due to a clean, functional design. It is true that some garlic pieces will ooze out the sides, but this usually happens if the grid compartment is overloaded. I so enjoy this tool because the removable grid slips out fast and is easy to wash. Immediately after using I give it a rinse under running water to remove the small garlic particles. This is a tool I have come to depend on almost daily. Last week in the rush to evacuate from hurricane Isabel I forgot to pack this favorite kitchen tool and now I am about to order another one to use in my out-of-state sanctuary. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good idea....with some work.
I agree with some of the other posts. It is a good idea, but not entirely foolproof.First, fresh garlic does not last forever - every week or so, toss out unused garlic, clean with at least some hot water, and re-fill with fresh cloves.Second, the comments about odor are correct. However, there are a couple ways to overcome this:One, wipe it off with a paper towel after every use.It only takes a second. Two, store it in a gallon-size ziploc bag in the fridge. It take no more effort and space to do this.If you want to go a step further, put a little baking soda in the bag. These are effortless solutions that take maybe 90% of odors.I also keep it in the egg compartment in the door (since, ironically, it is the worst place to store eggs) as an additional barrier and quick access.

For me, it does not take the place of freshly prepared garlic in nice dishes -- but it works very well for a quick addition of nearly-fresh garlic.I recommend it if you use garlic frequently, or would but for the trouble. If you buy the minced garlic in jars, you'll get your money back in a few months by using this and buy heads of garlic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good idea, bad invention
Now the idea behind this is really great, toss in some fresh garlic and you can have it at the ready to squeeze. The press itslef is of bad design.A girlfriend had one in her fridge, and everything smelled and tasted of garlic. Now I am a garlic fanantic, but so much as I love the taste of galic on my palate, I do not enjoy it in Sunny Delight. The fridge was overcoem with the smel, still smelled of garlic weeks later and the Sunny D as well as milk were tossed..

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy and convenient
You can store a week's worth of garlic in this guy.I like it, but it can be a pain to find all the parts after you've taken it apart to clean it.Then again, I had the same problem with my other garlic presses. ... Read more

Roasted garlic is all the rage, and for good reason: its sweet, savory flavor adds depth and richness to many dishes and it's an easy appetizer when served with a crusty loaf of bread. This terra cotta garlic baker comes equipped with a basic recipe to get you started. There's even a microwave version, but taking the time in the oven gives the best results. The glazed bottom of the baker is easy to clean and the porous, unglazed lid holds in just enough moisture to bake the garlic until it has carmelized, without drying it out. 4-0 out of 5 stars Smell the garlic
I am a slave for garlic, and this makes such yummy whole roasted cloves. Though rumor has it, you can seperate the cloves!I love the smell of garlic as I am roasting it, then I can take the yummy roasted cloves and smoosh them into garlic spread, or just toss them onto or into casseroles, potatoes, soups or onto fish.

My only complaint, is that the smell gets into this and permeates what it is near.Thinking maybe if I zipped it in a ziplock that might help it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'Must Have' for Garlic Lovers!!
Being a collector of kitchen gadgets, I purchased this a few years ago and it disappeared among the other items in my collection. I found it recently and bought some fresh garlic, drizzled it with olive oil, and sprinkled some fresh thyme over it. About 45 minutes later, the house was filled with the aroma of roasted garlic....YUMMM!!! I have used roasted garlic with mashed potatoes and will never again do it any other way. The Norpro works much better than foil as it bakes the garlic more evenly. I use this item all the time now and just toss it in the oven when I'm roasting another main dish or casserole. It's so good that you may find yourself wanting more than one, as there is nothing that tastes better than food smothered in roasted garlic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does the job
I used to roast garlic by wrapping it up in foil and putting that in the oven, which proved to be a real pain in the neck. This roasts the garlic really well, the only thing I can say is that if you drizzle olive oil over the garlic (as I do) that I've experienced some "stickiness" that is hard to get off, but that's probably due more to the oil than the roaster. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Festival of Garlicky Goodness!
Before I got this book, I didn't know there was such a thing as the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival- now I'd love to get the chance to go sometime!

This book includes garlicky recipies of all different types and of all different levels of difficulty. As a vegetarian, I wished there had been more meatless recipies, but I recognize that it's not the "Vegetarian Garlic Lovers Cookbook".It might not have as many recipies as some other garlic-specific cookbooks, but the recipies are all submitted by participants in the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, so they are all unique.Certainly recommended for garlic lovers everywhere. ... Editorial Review

A perfect complement to Le Creuset's tomato, bell pepper, and pumpkin casserole dishes, this garlic-shaped casserole adds panache to your cookware collection. It also signals devotion to one of the world's most popular bulbs, and what garlic fan could resist that? Like most of Le Creuset's innovative and attractive cookware line, this dish is comfortable both in the oven and on the table, with the versatility to bake, broil, refrigerate, or freeze your casseroles, vegetable medleys, or one-pot meals. It's especially suited to dinner parties and other showy occasions, as the unique garlic profile is a sure attention grabber.

Le Creuset's enameled cast-iron construction gives the casserole unrivaled heat retention on the inside for efficient, thorough cooking, and a durable exterior surface that's attractive and long lasting. Cast iron also holds its heat long after exposure to the oven, keeping your food warm on the table. An easy-to-clean, impermeable sand enamel coats the inside of the dish, ensuring that odors and flavors don't attach themselves to the surface. To prevent nutrients and flavors from escaping, the casserole features a tight-fitting lid that seals in heat during cooking. Add two side handles for carrying and a limited lifetime warranty, and you will soon value this versatile casserole as much as the bulb that inspired it. The dish is oven-safe to 450 degrees F and is dishwasher-safe. --Rivers Janssen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beauty and Function with Style
I so enjoy all of Le Creuset's fruit and vegetable shaped cast iron enameled casseroles. They are beautiful to display on a table or on a kitchen counter and very practical in cooking great casseroles. The exterior and interior enamel coating is very durable and easy to clean. I have cooked a multitude of dishes in these casseroles and have found them to be excellent in heat conduction and preventing "hot spots".

My favorite use for this casserole is a Romanian dish that inculdes corn meal, three kinds of tasty cheeses, sour cream and bacon (mamaliga). It produces a bubbling mass of flavor and the cast iron casserole keeps this creation hot after serving. The garlic shape of the casserole fits in nicely with many of the meals that are cooked in it since I am a true lover of the garlic spice. Many Romanian dishes are not for those watching their cholesterol, but on occassion, to indulge in these little diet busters is a delight.

There is a drawback to these whimsical cookers and that is the rim of both the top and bottom of the casseroles. There is no enamel on these rims and they can rust if not dried immediately after hand washing. They are dishwasher safe but I do recommend that you hand wash and dry immediately. I also recommend that you let them sit out for an hour or so to air dry before storing them.

When wet this casserole can be very slippery and the handles on the top and bottom help in preventing dropping them.

Finally, closely inspect your casserole when it arrives. My first garlic casserole had a two inch crack in the enamel. Amazon.com immediately sent a replacement to me and had the defective item picked up at my home at no charge. I commend them for standing behind the products they sell!

4-0 out of 5 stars A little more garlic, please!
I have several of the Le Creuset casseroles because I love the way they look, and they keep food moist and tender. The lid on the garlic casserole does not have the typical handle on top; the handles are on the sides on both the top and bottom of the pot. This makes it a little more awkward when cooking, but otherwise it wouldn't look so much like a garlic! The pot is much more attractive than the picture is. The shape and soft white color make a nice contrast to the other pots, and this makes my whole collection look better. It is quite a conversation piece, and very useful, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Garlic gets cute

It is a lot of fun to serve each person at your table with an individual casserole. Many Romanian dishes are not for those watching their fat intake :), but on occassion, it is a delight.
