1-0 out of 5 stars Don't beleive the hype.
Imagine for a second what their cold storage must look like, with THAT many items on the menu.Could they possibly rotate ingredients at a rate that keeps everything at peak freshness and quality?Could any kitchen worker really know all those recipes and make them taste good? There is no way a normal-sized kitchen could produce 25 pages of pan-Global dishes well. And, no surprise, they don't.

Sure, if you like cheesecake, theirs is pretty good.I hope so, it is in the name. The bar makes some pretty decent drinks, too, if you're in the mood for something tropical. But the food is not good, AT ALL.It is pretty pricey, as well.Skip it and go to Chili's if you want cheap chain food.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Food, Not a bad price
I had never been to a Cheesecake factory. I ordered the crab cake sandwich as a test. Wow did they pass the test! It was fresh, generous and delicious.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Food
I am surprised to see any reviews saying that the price is too high. Going to TGI Fridays, Macaroni Grill, or any other better quality "themed" chain restaurant is always going to cost a little more than Denny's. Don't get me wrong, it's not cheap, but good food isn't!

The menu is huge, so if you have anyone in your family who is picky (for my family that would be me) they should have no problem finding something that they will enjoy. My personal favorite is a new appetizer, Fried Macaroni & Cheese, sounds strange but tastes amazing!

I don't recommend eating a salad, or getting too much as far as the appetizer and meal goes, save room for dessert! To say that there are "too many" cheesecakes to choose from is absurd, what did you expect when you go to a place called "Cheesecake Factory"?! Yes, I will agree that it is hard to choose one but that's only because you want them all! I was just telling my husband the last time that we were there that they should sell some kind of a cheesecake sampler, similar to how restaurants have appetizer samplers so that the guests can try even more.

Every once in a while I get bad service at a restaurant, it's understandable, don't you ever have a "bad" day at work? Tell the Manager if you feel that you have been wronged, that should make you feel much better and hopefully if they handle the situation right it might also help you to focus less on that one bad service day out of what could be many other good days!

The wait can be long, but I think it is well worth it. If you don't want to wait around though, consider getting a piece of the Cheesecake to go, you will never regret it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, especially if you like politics
New York City is better off becasue of Giuliani. In his book, Leadership, he is not afraid to tell us why he did such a good job as Mayor of New York.Ego, yes, but the results are there-- the City is cleaner and safer as a result of Giuliani.

In his own words, Giuliani tells us how he made the City a cleaner and safer place to live. The philosphy and actions taken are enjoyable to read. The interesting thing is most of the strategies are simple, but that is what leadership requires--an understadable plan of action that can be implemented. While Giuliani makes it sound easy, I am sure it was not.

Those not interested in politics, may not find this book all that enjoyable. I enjoy the science and found what Giuliani did while Mayor of New York very interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating insight into leadership and city management
Is this book an ego-trip for Rudolph Giuliani? In some ways, yes.But he rightly has a huge amount to be proud of, having helped change NY from a crime-ridden hell-hole to a city to be proud of.

There is nothing revolutionary here, but it is interesting to see how good management practices applied wellby a strong, thoughtful (take note, GW) and well-respected leader, really can make a difference. One of Rudy's key strengths was an unflinching willingness to challenge the status quo.

I wonder if London's Major, Ken Livingstone, has read this?It should be required reading for all politicians.

4-0 out of 5 stars Leadership Insights, Self-Serving Story Line
It seemed like the cheering had barely stopped at the change of regime in New York's Gracie Mansion when Rudy Giuliani came out with this book. The subject is leadership. It's not intended to be a biography or a review of the events of Giuliani's mayoral tenure or the events of September 11.The book, which was obviously started before Giuliani left office, is supposed to be about leadership, and it
is.

After a brief opening where Mr. Giuliani tells us why he's writing the book, we move to a discussion of the impact of September 11.No matter how the book was originally designed, this is an appropriate place to begin.

From there we go to the bulk of the book, which is composed of a series of fourteen chapters, each of which lays out a particular leadership point or belief. There's a lot here that's valuable and
worthwhile.

The book is exceptionally well written.Sections move easily from a discourse of principles to examples from Giuliani's life and career and back again.

If you come to this book looking for insights into leadership, you will definitely find them. They're scattered throughout the book and more a part of individual insights than they are of some kind of overall plan, pattern, or philosophy. That seems odd to me, because one of the things that Giuliani was best at as mayor and which he described superbly in this book, is the use of control systems and accountability to assure good performance.

And you will certainly hear about good performance. You will also get insight into the person. You will get excellent stories about his experience of September 11, of his youth, and of his success. You won't get much about anything that wasn't a success.

No one can have as long a career as Rudolph Giuliani or occupy as often-embattled a position as the Mayor of New York without making a few bad choices and having things come out wrong.Giuliani certainly did. They're not in this book, though.

For example, you'll hear a great deal about the woman he is now spending his life with. But there's very little about the kinds of decisions he made that led to an almost soap opera atmosphere surrounding his messy divorce.

You'll hear plenty about his success in reducing the crime statistics in New York. You won't hear about what went on - if anything - with education, even though that was supposed to be an area of concentration in his second term.

You'll be reminded several times that he and his administration thought about and researched and planned for disasters and were, therefore, better prepared to handle September 11 than they might have been otherwise. You won't hear how there were no joint city-wide operations to test many of these plans, nor will you hear some of the criticisms that have been voiced in other places about issues of coordination and technology.

What that means is that as good as the book is, after awhile you start to ask yourself a question."What's the rest of this story? What's the other side?"

In the end, that's what left me vaguely dissatisfied with the book and unwilling to give it a complete, unqualified, strong buy recommendation. You'll get part of the story here, and what you'll get is good, valuable, and may be helpful. But you won't get the whole story.

Editorial Review

In 1987, RCA released a one-disc Elvis compilation called The Number One Hits that featured 18 tracks. So how did the label come up with 12 additional number ones (13 if you count the sensational "A Little Less Conversation" remix that brings the King into the 21st century as a bona fide dance/electronica star)? Well, the '87 compilation featured only Billboard number ones. "In the Ghetto" and "Burning Love" never reached the top there, nor did "Way Down," despite every copy of that 45 selling out on both sides of the Atlantic following Presley's 1977 death. Instead, the new compilers have used the major pop charts in both the U.S. (including Cashbox) and U.K. to determine inclusions. The tracks have all been remixed from original masters, which proves awesome at best (some of the songs have never sounded crisper if, at times, slightly antiseptic) and problematic at worst. Purists will definitely quibble. "A Fool Such As I," for instance, sounds like Elvis rerecorded his vocals. Hank Garland's great guitar solo also sounds different. It might be an alternate take. That's definitely the case with "The Wonder of You." A few lyrics are even different, meaning this isn't the same version as the original 45. Of course, none of that should matter to the youngsters who've been singing along to "Hound Dog" on the Lilo & Stitch soundtrack, or to any other newcomers. Despite the complaints, this is arguably the best single disc Elvis primer to date. Real fans will want to explore much deeper for treasures to be found, but albums like this guarantee that this is one king who will deservedly live very long, if not forever. --Bill Holdship ... 4-0 out of 5 stars good 50's songs all in one place
I have a different set (I believe it is some obscure import) which has all of the original versions of these songs, and by comparison, this set is very good, sounds better, but is also a bit changed from the alternate takes.I am not a huge Elvis fan, but I like many of his songs, and appreciate his contribution to popular music. He is definitely the most famous rock star to ever go through the spotlight. If you are a hardcore Elvis fan stick to the albums, but if you are new to Elvis and just want the hits, this is the best place to look, unless you also want the second disc that goes with this (which isn't necessary, I don't think). This compilation gives Elvis the royal treatment of his legendary songs.I just wish they had stuck to the originals on a few songs on this cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT
Ok so I wasn't alive when Elvis was around but my mom was and she passed her love to Elvis down to me with many of the other oldies. I truly love Elvis and this CD rocks!!!!! I love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recomended!
Elvis Presley-30 #1 hits spans from 1956 recordings such as heartbreak hotel, to 1977 recordings such as Way Down. As well as all of elvis's 30 number 1 hits their is a bonus track a little less conversation(JKL Radio Edit Remix) which is good expesically for the true elvis fan who already has all of the 30 number one hits in their collection. This CD takes you through a journey in a sense from the early times, to the 60's, through the 70's showing you the example of why Elvis was the king of rock n roll. Songs like Suspicious Minds, and Heartbreak Hotel stick with Elvis fans as well as the 28 others from all shook up, surrender, crying in the chapel, the wonder of you, stuck on you, burning love, don't, and countless others. I would also like to mention how great the booklet inside the CD case is. Their are some great rare pictures in the booklet as well as some great quotes by the king himself including this one "Rhythem Is Something You Either Have Or Done Have, But When You Have It, You Have It All Over." Not to mention how great elvis was but also to all of the musicians who were on this CD because they were elvis's backbone throughout his entire career. I would HIGHLY RECOMEND this to everybody in the world including YOU! Because you will learn to love this entire collection as much as any other possible recording in your entire collection. Enjoy~

This talking book comes with an interactive "magic pen" that works like a hand-held computer mouse pointer. Children can opt to turn the paper pages and listen to the story read with different voices for each character. Or they can interrupt the read-aloud session to play with the magic pen (permanently attached with a wire). They can point the pen tip to any word on a page and hear it pronounced, or touch a picture and hear a sound effect (such as "Strike one!" for the baseball bat). Very similar to the popular Living Books computer games, this 10-by-11-inch book is more portable than a home computer. Stories in this set include Lil's Loose Tooth, Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever, and Winnie the Pooh in A Sweet Good Morning. The set also includes a paper piano keyboard and map and human anatomy games.--Gail Hudson ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I would pick this over the writer's Leappad
I have both a LeapPad+Writing and regular LeapPad like this one, and I can honestly say that the extra writing feature is not worth the extra money.Stick with the LeapPad regular and get a lot of LeapPad readers.Make sure that you don't buy this if you have babies that tear things up, though. My son has all the LeapPad books, but half of them are unsalvageable because of my toddler that likes to chew on EVERYTHING.The LeapFrog customer service is awesome, though... they have replaced my books for $10 each so I don't have to go out to buy new ones!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Toy I have ever bought
I bought a pink and purple LeapPad for my daughter when she was three for Christmas. She is five now and still plays with it every single day. Everytime a birthday or Christmas rolls around she asks for more LeapPad books. This toy has been a godsend during car and plane trips, hotel and restaurant entertainment, and any other situation when children need to sit still.

She has learned the alphabet, numbers, spelling, and reading from countless hours on this pad. She owns several books and each get used all the time. I think this is honestly the best toy invented in a long time. She has been able to figure it out because it is well thought out for the young user. They can hit the stop button with the pen to stop it, or hit the Go button to continue each story. Each book also has games and other activities, so they are well worth the money. It is impossible for my daughter to get bored with it because each book is countless hours of reading, games, music, and excitement.

I encourage all parents of young children to buy this LeapPad. It is well worth the money. It is a toy that they will not grow out of in a short amount of time because the books range in ages.It is not only educational but very durable. Our LeapPad has been dropped countless times and is still intact. The only complaint I do have is that it tends to consume batteries quickly and you need a screw driver to take off the cover to put new ones in. Other than that, that is the only negative I have to say about the LeapPad.

2-0 out of 5 stars Toooo sloooowww for my boy
My boy has the attention span of a 4 year old. Why? Because he is 4 years old. He has no patience for the slow pace of age-appropriate leap pad materials. The learning games are too short, too slow, and too repetitive for him. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Flawlessly w/ various O/S's
Got this modem over two years ago, and have not had a problem with it in those two years. It's been up and running for most all of those two years (save power outages).

Took me about 5 minutes to install, including unpacking it and connecting it to my Linksys wireless router.

It's worth noting that I primarilly use Linux, and it works just fine in that environment (it also works just fine under BSD and Solaris). Other family members use Windows (God only knows why), and have not had problems.

Above all else, this modem will QUICKLY save you money over your local cable company's lease rates (five dollars per month for an obsolete sharkfin model with Charter Communications in St. Louis). Well worth the purchase!

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended.
I purchased this modem when I signed up for broadband Internet (cable) service.I have been using it for about two years now.I have never encountered any problems and it has never failed to function. The security "disconnect" function button on the top is a good idea. As a security precaution, I usually "disconnect" when I am not actually using my connection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trustworthy modem
I bought this modem over a year ago as an alternative to giving the cable company even more of my money via renting on of theirs.Ever since I plugged it in and got it activated it has given me zero problems. The only time it hasn't worked, it was because the internet itself was down.
I like the button on the modem that disconnects you from the internet. It takes maybe a second to connect/disconnect you and protect your computer from any unsavory types who are lurking out there.
I bought a new pc a few months ago and plugged in the modem and it was ready to go right then.
If you're forgoing the $5/mo. rental from your ISP, this baby pays for itself in about 18 months ... or less. And if you move, you can keep the thing, you don't have to give it back to the cursed cable co. ... Read more

The folks at Pixar can do no wrong with Monsters, Inc., the studio's fourth feature film, which stretches the computer animation format in terms of both technical complexity and emotional impact. The giant, blue-furred James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (wonderfully voiced by John Goodman) is a scare-monster extraordinaire in the hidden world of Monstropolis, where the scaring of kids is an imperative in order to keep the entire city running. Beyond the competition to be the best at the business, Sullivan and his assistant, the one-eyed Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), discover what happens when the real world interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed "Boo," who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one night. Director Pete Doctor and codirectors David Silverman and Lee Unkrich follow the Pixar (Toy Story) blueprint with an imaginative scenario, fun characters, and ace comic timing. By the last heart-tugging shot, kids may never look at monsters the same, nor artists at what computer animation can do in the hands of magicians. --Doug Thomas ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sustos que dan risa

4-0 out of 5 stars Pixar Does It Again
Monstropolis is experiencing a power shortage. They use the screams of human children to power their city. But the numbers are off and Monsters, Inc. is really pushing the people who work on the scare floor to create more energy. James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (John Goodman) is the current leader. A large, fuzzy bear-type creature with horns, Sulley works with Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), a round green guy with one eye. As a team, they are the current leaders. Randall (Stave Buscemi) is consumed with jealous rage and wants to be the top earner. Everyone in Monstropolis has been taught that the human children they scare are also toxic to the monsters. This leads more than a few monsters to become afraid of them and quickly call of the visit. One night, after everyone has gone home, Sulley revisits the scare floor and finds that a door to a child's room has been left behind. He pokes his head in and sees nothing. When he returns to the scare floor, he finds that the little girl who lives in the room has grabbed onto his fur. He nicknames her Boo and has to figure out a way to get her back home without causing the city to becomes panicked.

"Monsters, Inc.", the newest film from Pixar, is a brilliant addition to their library. Directed by newcomer, Peter Docter, a John Lassiter protégé, the film starts with a brilliant concept, adds a delightful screenplay and tops it off with some of the best computer animation yet.

Much like the previous Pixar films, the attention to detail in "Monsters, Inc." is simply staggering. Monstropolis is basically any large American city, down to the power crisis and potential rolling blackouts. The only difference is that it is populated by monsters of all shapes and sizes. The buildings are given brick detail, the cars are given grills, the interior of Monsters, Inc. has a large lobby. It makes it seem very real. The attention given to the characters is actually even more impressive. Sulley's fur coat seems to be very real and life-like. Every strand of fur seems to move individually. In a couple of scenes, his coat is buffeted by wind and seems to ripple like waves. His facial expressions are also very good and exhibit a whole range of emotions. Mike, the little round assistant, is given more of a goofball comic look, fitting the voice that Billy Crystal uses. His eye and mouth movements are very expressive and help to create an impressive character. Every monster has a different look; Celia (Jennifer Tilly), the girl Mike has a crush on, looks like a sort of Medusa slug, Mr. Waternoose (James Coburn), the head of Monsters, Inc. looks like a crab. This level of inventiveness never fails to amaze the viewer.

The story is very involving, providing amusement for the adults while the kiddies are amused by the animation. The story opens with a little boy going to bed, as his parents close the bedroom door. Immediately, his eyes widen as he imagines the closet door open a crack and a shadow flowing from it. It turns out to be pajama sleepers, hanging on the inside. Then, a monster appears, ready to frighten the child, only to get frightened by the child instead. But all of this is actually happening in a simulator in Monsters, Inc., to train the monsters about frightening the children. The method used for getting into the children's bedrooms is very inventive. The story involving Boo, the human child is also very amusing. A chase through various children's doors is also an amusing highlight. Just these few elements represent more thought and inventiveness than that which is invested in most other Hollywood films.

There are also a lot of jokes aimed at keeping adults occupied. First of all, the entire film is basically a tribute to baby boomers. Everything in Monstropolis is growing old and weathered. It is the children of today, harder to scare because they are desensitized, that are the problem. The children of the baby boomers are the problem, inferring that the baby boomer period was just fine for Monstropolis.

Ultimately, "Monsters, Inc." has a message or moral and it is presented in such a way that all viewers can get the message and retain it. The message isn't rammed down our throats and forced upon us.

"Monsters, Inc." is an enjoyable film for everyone in the family. The characters, animation and story will surely win over everyone who watches it. 4 ½ stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Pixar's Best
This is such a great film, I was having fun right along with my kids. John Goodman and Billy Crystal are wonderful and hysterical in the parts of Mike and Sully. Its a fun movie, seemingly set in another world. Monster City is, of course full of scary looking monsters. The entire city is powered by children screaming! But, ironically, the monsters are even more afraid of the children then they are of them. And when one of those children, the delightful Boo, breaks lose into their world, problems of course ensure. The ending is sweet, and the whole movie is very enjoyable and loaded with great scenes. ... Read more

KitchenAid's stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 250 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough; the 4-1/2-quart bowl can hold up to 8 cups of flour, which translates into as many as 192 sweet treats.

This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solid in construction and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist; untwisting them is a bit trickier because the attachment stems are short and can be hard to grasp, especially if they get the least bit greasy. The bowl itself locks tight to the base.

Standing 14 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off.

To complete the package, KitchenAid includes a spiral-bound guide with instructions, mixing tips, and 67 recipes, from crispy waffles to a caramel walnut banana torte. --Betsy Danheim ... Read more

I have this unit. I dont use it a lot...but at least once or twice a week. It sure does a good job.
Cookies etc. I make pizza dough. Prefer one mix at a time..ie 1 loaf of bread or pizza dough for a 12" pizza. One trick for the rising dough on the hook...spray or oil the hook.
I have a disability and could notdo many of these mixing tasks without a good mixer. Todays price..April 6/05 with the bonus is excellent. Worth it as a backup.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most fabulous mixer ever...plus it looks cute too!
I love my mixer.I bought it five years ago after wanting one for about twenty years.I bought it at Christmas time and was inspired to make loads and loads of cookies which turned out beautifully and perfectly mixed. That baby could mix up a giant batch of gingerbread in what seemed like seconds! If you have ever mixed a gingerbread recipe by hand, you'll know why I'm so excited about it!It incorporated five cups of flour with no effort.WOW!Now, I know that one lady who reviewed this mixer before gave it only two stars for the motor and the warranty, but possibly she got a lemon.I don't use mine for bread very often, because I was brought up baking bread and kneading the dough by hand, but perhaps if it is used every day, the motor would wear a tad.I know that I've always been happy with mine and I use it often.I love the way it looks on the counter and it's extremely easy to clean. The bowl, dough hook and paddle are all dishwasher safe. The only hand wash item is the wisk, which is no big deal. The body with the motor wipes clean in a snap and it's always easy to whip together a recipe in no time.I love it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new stand mixer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the hype
Granted, I am not a professional cook (I only cook for my family and for the occasional guests), and there are many glowing reviews of this appliance, but I would not buy this KitchenAid mixer again.

1) It is very heavy. That's good for not bouncing around on the counter, but I have to move mine from the pantry to the counter, and it is extremely heavy.2) I do not think that it mixes ingredients well.I always have to scrape the sides and get under the dough because there is often unmixed flour at the bottom.3)My kids (5 and 7 years) like my old-fashioned MixMaster because they can see through the clear bowl and enjoy watching the ingredients mix.The KitchenAid has a metal bowl that is obviously not see-through and has to be hand washed.4)The beaters must be hand washed.5) Reaching into the bowl is a task, unless you don't mind being covered in batter. The bowl is narrower at the top, so there is not much room to get a spatula between the sides of the bowl and the beater.6) Adding ingredients while the mixer is going is also a pain because of the narrow shape of the bowl. 7) You can get a splash-guard sort of plastic device through which to pour wet or dry ingredients. But why should I need a device for a mixer? There should be room enough to pour ingredients directly in.Also, then I have to store these plastic pieces, and they do not fit into the mixer.

My mother says she likes making bread with her KitchenAid which I haven't tried. But for making cookies, cakes, mashed potatoes, etc., I would not recommend the KitchenAid.

It blows my mind that so many people have bought into this mixer with its many inconveniences.I just pulled out the KitchenAid to give it one more try making cookies and was again disappointed.Next time, I'll stick to my cheap old MixMaster.Besides, my 2 girls each get to enjoy a beater a-piece with that one! ... Editorial Review

Vanilla Sky reunites director Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire) with über-playboy Tom Cruise, adds another sexy Cruz (Penélope) and Cameron Diaz for good measure, and delivers a wildly entertaining, bizarre venture into erotic science fiction. Adapted near exactly from Spanish filmmaker Alejandro Amenábar's 1997 romantic thriller Open Your Eyes, the film follows David Aames (Cruise) as he falls from his graceful Manhattan perch of inordinate wealth, good looks, and newfound love with Sofia (Cruz) because of severe facial disfigurement in a car accident caused by a suicidal ex-lover (Diaz). What at first promises to be a conventional allegory of redemption via true love is turned on its head as Cruise's character, reduced to wearing a latex mask and spurned by his friends, wins back his princess only after a miracle of plastic surgery restores his former beauty. A series of plot twists follows as waking life, technological advances, and nightmares flip-flop to dizzying effect and David ultimately comes face to face with his own mortality. Despite a final conceit to some vague morality, the appeal of the film is the wonderfully callous message conveyed by the rest of it (money and physical beauty equal happiness) through an unabashed vanity perfectly embodied by Cruise and Cruz. A delicious, decadent treat. --Fionn Meade ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Psychological Futuristic Thriller!!
By far one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies. This thing has danger, confusion, action, drama, despair, hope, and romance all balled up into one.Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, and Cameron Diaz are all excellently cast for their characters in this film.

Tom Cruise stars as David Ames, a womanizing playboy who finds romantic redemption when he falls in love with his best friend's girlfriend Sofia (Penelope Cruz, reprising her role from the original film). Before that relationship can begin, however, David is coaxed into a car driven by an ex-lover, Julie (Cameron Diaz), who turns out to be suicidal....

Driving her car off a bridge, Julie kills herself and horribly disfigures David. Reconstructive surgery and the loving support of Sofia seem to reverse David's luck, but eerie incidents are soon making him question the reality of his existence and his control over his life, even while he is suspected of complicity in Julie's death. Vanilla Sky ingrains our pop culture of Rock Music and Art into a futuristic landscape that we may someday recognize.Oh, to dream a dream!Dream of a Vanilla Sky...

3-0 out of 5 stars Meh
Vanilla Sky is an interesting remake of Abre los ojos. I can't say that it's better though.

Tom cruise's acting is meh. Cameron Diaz is Meh. Penelope cruz did her role better in the original.

Overall the film seems to work better than the original in the music department. The scene where tom leaves penelope's apartment right before the car accident and you hear jeff buckley's last goodbye is simply irresistible!
Also the scene when tom walks into the club and you see people dancing to thievery corporation's Indra track is very cool.
And at the end when you hear Sigur ros is just unforgettable!

Other than that, the film is inferior to the original.
Perhaps it being set in NYC made it more appealing but whatever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not as enjoyable as 'Minority Report'.
The first time I watched this film, I hated it, I didn't understand anything, I just wanted to lie back and understand whats going on as if I were watching 'Speed'.

After seeing 'Minority Report', I decided to give it another go, and this time really focus. I understood it this time round, and its quite mind twisting, but I did not enjoy it as much as 'Minority Report', I found myself trying way too hard to catch up on what the hell was going on with no real entertainment along the way. The movie was only 2 hours, but it felt like 3 hours.

This is also one of those films that you definitely see best the first time around, so you really have to focus, look and listen to everything. This is also Tom Cruise' best work.

Unlike 'Minority Report' you might be reluctant to watch it again or anytime soon unless you haven't understood the story, as it really is one of those movies where it gets really boring after the first go.

Don't let the trailer fool you, this is far from a simple love story. Plenty of twists and turns, its hard to catch up. It may not be very enjoyable, but its definitely worth watching and understanding atleast once. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My gas Weber will last longer than a Camcorder
After 7 years of a Weber charcoal grill, I finally bought a Gen Silver B gas grill. It is fantastic like all the other reviews say. Compared to using charcoal, I love the heat control of gas(instant on, steady and quickly changable), and the gas Weber still generates a wonderful grill flavor. However, one reflection that I have is that the price is not expensive considering its high quality, made in the USA construction (good for American jobs/ingenuity), and comparing all the electronic "junk" like Camcorders that we buy which costs as much or more than this gas Weber but will last no where as long, or give as much pleasure - the Gen Silver B is a great value!

Editorial Review

The Power Plus battery pack is one of the highlights of Milwaukee's 14.4-volt cordless drill. The battery is reversible, which helps balance the tool for the user and also makes it easier to get into tight spots. The adjustable clutch is easy to use and gives you two speed ranges to choose from: low gear for more power (maximum: 390 inch-pounds of torque) when driving screws and high gear for more speed when drilling. There are also 20 different super precise clutch positions so you can match the torque to the application, minimizing the risk of stripping screws or breaking off heads. The thin, soft-grip handle seems to absorb some of the vibrations, making the drill comfortable both to hold and use. The 1/2-inch keyless chuck is a bonus feature, holding a larger bit than most of the 3/8-inch competition in the 14.4 market. The forward/reverse function takes some getting used to: it's a switch, as opposed to the more common two-sided buttons you find on most other brands, and depending on hand size can be a bit tricky to reach with your trigger hand. This is a great tool for either the professional or the serious do-it-yourselfer. Excellent work, Milwaukee. --Dori Anvinson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars dead batteries
I purchased a Milwaukee 14.4 Power Plus (minus t-handle), almost 3 years ago.It came with the 2.4 amp hour batteries.Despite the rough use that I've subjected it to, the drill has performed flawlessly. However, 6 months ago I let the batteries run down (not keeping them on maintenance charge). To my disappointment, they would not take a charge. A month ago, I again tried to recharge them (leaving them in for as many as 10 hours). But the charger light would never come on.The voltage on both batteries read 0 volts.New batteries would cost me $70 each.So I figured, for a little more money, I would be just as well off to by a new drill and batteries together.First, however, I tried something "off-the-wall."I attached one of the dead batteries into the drill and inserted a short steel rod into the chuck.I inserted the other end of the steel rod (about 3/8"x 8") into my corded Milwaukee. I set one in "reverse" and the other in "forward" and held down on both triggers, running at about 500 rpms. After a few minutes, the turning motor charged the dead battery to over 6 volts I believe, which was more than enough for the charger to finally kick in and start charging. One battery now works great and the other is fair.I'm in no way recommending that this would be practical for everyone with dead batteries, which won't take a charge. But I figured that since I was all set to but a new one, what did I have to loose?

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointment
This drill was my first, and last, Milwaukee tool purchase. It is just out of warranty, 1 year, and I have used it very little (maybe 15 battery charges). When it first arrived it had one bad battery.I received a replacement which is ok, but now the other battery is bad.I keep the batteries and charger indoors so I don't believe heat/cold are to blame. Also, the drill now has a noticeable burning smell whenever it is operated.

I have owned several other cordless drills and all of them performed better than this one.If you're looking to buy, I recommend you keep looking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Drill
This is a great drill. I have used it for a variety of tasks since my recent purchase (only a month ago or so). It has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it (although I haven't needed to bore 2" holes or mix thin-set yet, but that is not why I purchased it). It's weight is fine for me, but my wife finds it a bit heavy. She is still able to use it for basic drilling, but prefers her 9.6V instead for driving sheetrock screws and the like. All in all, I am very happy with it, and the service I got from Amazon was top-notch. ... Read more

Editorial Review

How big is this game? Even publicists for other games end up talking about Vice City when they call our office, babbling in the same helplessly intoxicated way that afflicts everyone who plays it. The achievement of Vice City (which, as everyone knows by now, is set in the 1980s and offers an all-new, Miami Vice-inspired story) is not only that it manages to live up to an absurd level of expectation, but that it takes the game places that fans of its predecessor Grand Theft Auto 3 never dreamed of, and that it achieves this astonishing level of innovation without losing anything that made GTA3 the bestselling PS2 game of all time.

After a brilliant homage to the era of the Commodore 64 in the opening credits, the first thing you'll notice is the improved graphics, which are smoother and more detailed, and--with effects like neon lights reflected on rain-slick streets, and intense Florida sunlight--have a lush, tropical look that immediately gives you a strong sense of place. The architecture is more fabulous by tenfold, with art deco buildings, high-rise hotels, and believably seedy back alleys. The control scheme is essentially the same as in GTA3, but the cars handle much better, and in pedestrian mode there is a new crouch move. You will have access to fast, great-handling cars right away, as opposed to GTA3 which made you unlock the second island before you could get your hands on any respectable wheels. This game has such riches to offer that there is no need to be chintzy with the vehicles.

Cops are more vigilant this time--minor offenses like whacking innocent bystanders will more often than not get you a two-star wanted level--and are harder to elude (though they still can't seem to climb stairs or negotiate sharp turns). So while free-roaming exploration is as fun as ever, there is more incentive to perform the missions instead of randomly raising hell. Not that that's a bad thing: even lazy criminals like myself (in GTA3, I would rather toss hand grenades into traffic than follow orders from some rude Mafia boss) will be quickly caught up in the vivid characters and hilarious, fascinating story, in which you play an acid-washed-jeans-wearing thug named Tommy Vercetti. Where in GTA3 missions were blocky, schematic affairs only nominally connected to the story, this time tasks move the story briskly along and deftly blend cinematics and game action. For example, there is a scene of a character throwing Tommy a gun, at which point you are suddenly thrown back into the action and must make an instant decision about whom to trust and what to do.

There are more, and more detailed, indoor environments, including a hotel, police station, and mall (a slight downside to this is that some of the more elaborate indoor environments require load times). The layout of the city, with tons of backyards, narrow alleys, and fire escapes, encourages creativity when eluding pursuit, as does greater access to rooftops. Get your motorcycle up the fire escape and a whole new world of action is possible, including... well, use your imagination.

This overview barely scratches the surface of the Vice City experience, its colorful explosion of music, clothes, combat, and brilliant voice acting, not to mention the plot twist midway through the game that changes the very nature of the game itself. Though it was the outrageous, amoral violence that got all the press, the essential genius of GTA3 was its intoxicating blend of script and open-ended action. In Vice City this is--to use a cliché that is for once apropos--taken to a whole new level. --David Stoesz

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much work to be fun
On the upside, the scenery, the variety of vehicles, and the story line and main missions are all great. On the downside, the radio stations in Liberty City were great satire and music, in Vice City, they're annoyingly silly with bad music; the side missions are too difficult, especially since the cops are so easily offended, and the controls seem harder to use (maybe just me and my computer).

If repeating the same mission over and over and over and over trying to be a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y perfect just to get that last checkpoint is fun for you, then go for it.It wasn't for me.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0
by Adobe
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
CD-ROM (02 August, 2002)
list price: $99.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

For intermediate digital image enthusiasts who don't need Adobe Photoshop, Adobe's barer-bones Photoshop Elements 2.0 works atop the same engine and provides many of the same tools for a fraction of the price.

Elements' interface is less complex then Photoshop, packaging oft-used quick correction tools in easy-to-access locations. The program gears itself toward the novice user looking to learn more about digital image modification and enhancement. You can also enter keywords into a search field and Elements will offer up related walkthroughs and instructions.

Elements can input images from a variety of sources, including scanners and digital cameras. It's more powerful than the average program bundled with any of these devices, so you can make it your default image editor for either or both. Stills can also be snagged from a variety of video formats, including QuickTime, MPEG, AVI, and Windows Media. Before opening images, you can browse through their thumbnails, which include a preview of the image as well as its size and type.

Inputted images can be enhanced, distorted, corrected, or combined into panoramas through the PhotoMerge stitching tool. The new Selection Brush lets users simply paint over an item they would like to cut or copy. While it still takes a steady hand to select non-straight edges, it's easier than using the standard selection tools such as the rectangular marquee or the lasso. Elements works well as a file manager as well, its new batch processing feature allowing users to make changes to several images at once.

Output options are also expansive, including attaching photos to e-mail messages, printing images, or saving them in a smaller Web format and then uploading them to the Internet. Beyond these typical tools, Elements users can create image slideshows in PDF format that can be viewed on PDAs as well as other PCs.

While there are other image editing programs that sell for the same price, Photoshop Elements brings to the table much of the power of its bigger sibling while making it accessible for the average user. --J. Curtis ... Read more

Elements is a program that is packed with many of the same features as the more expensive full version Adobe Photoshop. The features that it doesn't have, like duotones, channel palette and Quickmask, can be worked around with an extra step or two. It is a terrific value.
That said, the learning curve for those new to the world of Adobe, can be pretty steep. I should know - I use it to teach a digital scrapbooking class at an Educational Center in California (yes - a FREE course). For those of you who have not used Adobe Products before, there is 3 to 5 ways to do just about everything - this can be confusing for beginners. Besides a menu bar with drop down windows, there is a toolbar, a tool editor, as well as palettes that dock and separate from the main menu bar. The Layer Palette (A wonderful and useful thing) seems to be particulary hard for beginners to understand.
My suggestion is, if you are just starting to use Adobe product, find a school and take a course BEFORE your purchase. Most of my student do end up buying the software, or a scanner that includes it, by the end of the semester.

I was one of those little twirps that liked Maxim when I was 16 but now I get some playboy. If you a college man who buys this crap I will buy you a coppy of Penthouse instead.

The Canon Elan 7E features the eye-controlled focus system, the fastest means of focusing and metering a photographer can find. By using more focusing points and greater off-center coverage than other cameras in its class, this camera is able to take an exact reading in approximately 1/20 of a second. When a photographer brings the camera to their eye, their glance is tracked by the focusing system, allowing framing and focusing to become a single uninterrupted creative process. An easy one-time calibration is all that's needed to activate the eye-controlled focus system. Once this calibration is complete, the camera is able to precisely detect which part of the viewfinder the photographer is using. It then automatically focuses the lens with amazing accuracy.

This system delivers crisp, sharply focused images whether the camera is in a vertical or a horizontal position. The Canon Elan 7E is even able to store the distinct calibrations of up to five different photographers. Using an EF 300mm f2.8 IS lens, it can track a subject moving at 186 mph until it's a mere 66 feet from the camera. This fast-focus system, combined with the ability to shoot at almost four frames per second, makes the Canon Elan 7E the perfect choice for capturing those demanding sporting events or special occasions when you don't want to miss a single moment. And, considering its continuous shooting speed, the Elan 7E is also remarkably quiet. This feature gives the photographer the opportunity to shoot the perfect wildlife scene without disturbing or scaring the subject.

Part of the Elan 7E's focusing system is the seven-point wide-area autofocus. The eye-controlled focus system was designed to work especially with this precision feature. Seven focusing points are arranged in a wide cross pattern with a central "cross-type" sensor. The wider-than-usual area gives the photographer the ability to achieve a remarkably sharp, focused image instantly. This function works whether the subject is off-center, stationary, in motion, in low light, or even in low-contrast situations. The shot will still come out sharp and crisp, and without the need to recompose the shot. By using the focusing-point selection keys, the user is able to select any of the seven focus points simply by pressing a key. Representing a bold innovation in speed and usability, this feature gives an additional amount of image control back to the photographer.

A highly advanced metering system, comprised of 35-zone evaluative metering sensors, is linked to the seven focusing points. Whether shooting indoors or outside, day or night, a seamless integration of exposure and focus ensures remarkable clarity and contrast in any image. This system gives the photographer accurate control over situations that combine light and shadow or that feature strong backlight. When metering subjects against very dark or very bright backgrounds, partial-area metering measures 10 percent of the viewfinder around the chosen focusing point. This provides accurate image results when dealing with shadows or highlights. The photographer can also use the Elan 7E's center-weighed metering function. This mode places greater emphasis on what it reads as the center of the frame by measuring the entire scene. No matter which function the photographer chooses, precision metering is guaranteed--whether the camera is in a vertical or horizontal position.

Giving the photographer even more creative control is the command dial. This allows manual-control light, speed, aperture, and depth of field. Shutter priority lets the photographer choose the shutter speed, while the Elan 7E automatically selects the correct aperture. This function is especially useful when capturing action shots. With aperture priority, the photographer picks the aperture setting while the camera chooses the correct shutter speed. This is helpful when control over the depth of field is essential. Using the eye-controlled focus system to define the "sharp zone," the photographer can calculate the precise depth of field automatically. It's even possible to check the depth of field using the preview button. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Died after 2.5 years
Till yesterday I was all praises for this camera and would have given 5 stars. Its got the features for a beginner to reach a serious amature role with low cost. Well yesterday it died on me. I have had the camera for 2.5 years and shot probably around 100 rolls with it.

Now its a great camera. Its given me some awesome pictures. I like the metering except the fact that is does not have spot metering. This is a disadvantage. More over the the partial region of the camera is not well defined. I have the eye control. 85% it works and its great. But it does fail and irritates me at times. Low light focus is not so good but with the speedlight(420EX) it focus in a sec. What a difference. The depth of preview button is at time hard to find

I love the fash 4 frames per second. I used it twice but it gave me great results. I love the feel of the camera.

With all its defects I love the camera and might go in for the same.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Happy Canon User
I read the previous reviews and agree with most everything. This is a great camera that can be easily used by a beginner but has the features wanted by experienced pros.

The one thing I was disapointed in is that it did not say anywhere, until I already purchased the "E" model and read the manual, that the EYE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK IF YOU WEAR CONATCT LENSES.The "E" model was a waste of money for me due to this and that is the reason I gave this camera 4 out of the 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic beginners camera
For the record, I have been using this camera for over 2 years now and I shoot mainly nature and people.

The Canon Elan 7E/EOS30 is a fantastic all around camera for beginners/intermediate photographers.

At the time of buying this camera, there was a confusion whether to choose the rebel or the elan 7E. I would very strongly recommend anyone to consider buying the intermediate Elan 7 as compared to the basic rebel. The rebel has a very "plasticky" feel to it and if I remember correctly, there is a single knob to set both the aperture and the shutter speed. Once you move away from shooting it as point and shoot, you will realize that the single knob can get incredibely irritating.

As for the "E" i.e. eye focus, I never really used it too much but am planning to shortly. So you can save some money by getting the Elan 7, if you so wish since the Eye feature is essentially just a gimmick. Now I also wish I had got the date feature, since down the road it might be an useful tool. (say, 40 yrs, from now, you want to know when the picture was taken ;) )

The most wonderful thing about the ELan 7E is that it allows you to grow with it...It offers a whole bunch of features, that I think will take you from a beginning stage (point and shoot) to a more advanced stage (total manual) phase. After shooting over 20 rolls of film and slide, I still find myself reading the manual and noting down some new feature to try out on my next roll.

Small piece of advice for beginners.. I realize now that the money you spend on lenses might be worth almost more than the money you spend on the camera. Coz even the best camera cannot produce a decent picture with a bad lens. I would strongly recommend avoiding the standard lens(28-90mm, I think) that comes bundled with it (even if the total package is cheap). I bought the body separate and a canon 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 and I have never regretted the decision. Its a relatively sharp lens at both ends and is always mounted on my camera for shooting almost anything. If you are on a tight budget get the Canon 50 mm 1.8 II which sells in most shops ... I am now slowly saving up for a L series lens.

Besides the usual preset options like portrait, landscape, closeup, sports, night mode, the Elan 7E offers a whole bunch of features that I found really useful. Here are some of them,

    1) Depth of field preview button.
    2) DEP (depth of field AE) - this really helps if your lens does not have a distance scale (like the 28-105mm). Say for e.g., you need to preset the depth of scale from 0 to infinity, this feature helps you to achieve that effect without the distance scale on your lens.
    3) AE lock
    4) Exposure compensation - you can set the exposure compensation upto + or - 2 stops in half stop increments and you can do it without taking your eyes of the viewfinder.
    5) Auto exposure bracketting - for those really important pictures that you dont want to miss :)
    6) bulb exposures - allows you to have as long a exposure as you want. I found this really useful. I hear that some cameras have limitations on how long they can be exposed. (RS - 60E3 shutter release cable is really useful for this)
    7) multiple exposures
    8) mirror lockup etc etc etc.

The built in flash suffices for all my needs. Lots of people recommended the battery pack, but I would suggest anyone buying this camera to first check it out themselves. I find the grip good enough for me.

All in all, I just love this camera. I have been having great fun for past 2 yrs with it and am confident of having lots more fun for few more years at least and I dont think you will get a better performance for this price...If you have the money, just get it & start shooting !!

    Strengths:
    1) Solid feel and good looks
    2) Enough bells and whistles to keep you curious and interested for quite some time.
    3) focussing point selection with seven focussing points (auto or manual)
    4) whole bunch of lenses to choose from
    5) built in flash
    6) Rugged build - have used extensively in real hot weather(AZ) as well as sub zero temperatures (MI)
    7)Relatively light and compact.
    8)Best price/performance ratio

    Weaknesses:
    1) I feel an LCD would have been invaluable tool to have during low-lit situations
2)Lack of spot metering - this is one feature I would have loved to use.
3)Auto focus fails to activate when you try to shoot closeups(macros), cloudy landscapes or under low light situations
    4) Depth of field preview button is hidden...I have never been able to activate it without taking my eyes off the viewfinder ! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Sony support awful
Since I bought this notebook I am in trouble. The computer is slow and two months later the LCD screen did not worked. I claim for repair under warranty to Sony and I had to ship the computer to San Diego,California paying all shipment expenses. They knew what the problem with the LCD was before they received and now they do not want to repair it under the warranty. What kind of computer is this, that I bought it in September as a new model and now is discontinued.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome computer
This thing put me in the hole 2500 bucks with insurance, but id have to say it was worth it. One thing that is very underated on this computer is the sound is soooooo goood. Its a lap top with 3d sound. I dont even have my regular speakers hooked up. Also, its super rugged. I bring it everywhere, And i sereously abuse electronics, I brought it to florada once, and after that it broke down on me, so I just brought it were i bought it and got a new one, yea really good buy, wish it had a dvd burner though, well when this gets old, i'll bring it in for a new one.

Sabatier Precision 14-Piece Stainless-Steel Knife Block Set

    Kitchen
    list price: $110.00

    Editorial Review

You won't be missing a single cutting tool with this 14-piece cutlery block set from Sabatier. It contains a 3-1/2-inch paring knife, an 8-inch chef knife, an 8-inch slicer, an 8-inch bread knife, a 6-inch boning knife, six 5-inch steak knives, a pair of kitchen shears, a sharpening steel, and a 14-slot block to keep them in. The knives are made from high-carbon stainless steel, which is the industry standard, and have full tangs, meaning that the steel goes all the way through the handle. These knives feel a little lighter than professional quality sets, and won't hold the same razor-sharp edge, but for those looking for a complete starter set these will work just fine. The shears are a nice bonus when cutting through bones or joints, and they'll cut through bags and boxes and do a fine job of snipping herbs into a sauce. The sharpening steel helps to keep the blade true, and the block keeps tools handy and protected. --Maria Dolan

1-0 out of 5 stars junk
These knives are pure junk! I bought 2 sets and have thrown both of them out already. It says they are stainless but the do rust. Also, they don't hold an edge and are almost impossible to sharpen.Don't waste your money.Save up a little more and get a decent set on sale at at kitchen store.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hard to sharp
This set looks nice on the screen, the blades are thick and very hard to sharp. The sharpener that comes with the set is practically useless.I won't recomend this set to any one

2-0 out of 5 stars too dull
straight edge knives were very dull, and they don't take a sharpening well or keep it past one good use.
the steak knives are okay since they are serated. the kitchen scissors are kitchen scissors. wouldn't use them for anything else like sewing.

    French Bear High Chair

    Baby Product (12 January, 2005)

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

In some ways, this very stable and multiadjustable highchair isan advertisement for just how far baby furniture design has come. Theplastic-and-steel frame can be moved and locked in place easily. Seatheight adjusts from 20 to 27 inches. The seat also goes from upright tohalf-reclined--with an in-between position--at any height. Theremovable, washable seat cover is well padded. And the huge tray can(usually, see below) be adjusted or removed with one hand. The caveat:compared to some more expensive models, the height and tilt adjustmentsare irritatingly clunky, and the user tends (at least the first fewtimes) to figure out how to make them work by wrestling with the chairrather than by using simple, clearly marked controls. And we found thatthe tray mechanism tended to stick, requiring further brief wrestlingbouts. --Richard Farr ... Read more
