Editorial Review

KitchenAid's stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 250 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough; the 4-1/2-quart bowl can hold up to 8 cups of flour, which translates into as many as 192 sweet treats.

This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solid in construction and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist; untwisting them is a bit trickier because the attachment stems are short and can be hard to grasp, especially if they get the least bit greasy. The bowl itself locks tight to the base.

Standing 14 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off.

To complete the package, KitchenAid includes a spiral-bound guide with instructions, mixing tips, and 67 recipes, from crispy waffles to a caramel walnut banana torte. --Betsy Danheim ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Believe the hype
I have this unit. I dont use it a lot...but at least once or twice a week. It sure does a good job.
Cookies etc. I make pizza dough. Prefer one mix at a time..ie 1 loaf of bread or pizza dough for a 12" pizza. One trick for the rising dough on the hook...spray or oil the hook.
I have a disability and could notdo many of these mixing tasks without a good mixer. Todays price..April 6/05 with the bonus is excellent. Worth it as a backup.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most fabulous mixer ever...plus it looks cute too!
I love my mixer.I bought it five years ago after wanting one for about twenty years.I bought it at Christmas time and was inspired to make loads and loads of cookies which turned out beautifully and perfectly mixed. That baby could mix up a giant batch of gingerbread in what seemed like seconds! If you have ever mixed a gingerbread recipe by hand, you'll know why I'm so excited about it!It incorporated five cups of flour with no effort.WOW!Now, I know that one lady who reviewed this mixer before gave it only two stars for the motor and the warranty, but possibly she got a lemon.I don't use mine for bread very often, because I was brought up baking bread and kneading the dough by hand, but perhaps if it is used every day, the motor would wear a tad.I know that I've always been happy with mine and I use it often.I love the way it looks on the counter and it's extremely easy to clean. The bowl, dough hook and paddle are all dishwasher safe. The only hand wash item is the wisk, which is no big deal. The body with the motor wipes clean in a snap and it's always easy to whip together a recipe in no time.I love it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new stand mixer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the hype
Granted, I am not a professional cook (I only cook for my family and for the occasional guests), and there are many glowing reviews of this appliance, but I would not buy this KitchenAid mixer again.

1) It is very heavy. That's good for not bouncing around on the counter, but I have to move mine from the pantry to the counter, and it is extremely heavy.2) I do not think that it mixes ingredients well.I always have to scrape the sides and get under the dough because there is often unmixed flour at the bottom.3)My kids (5 and 7 years) like my old-fashioned MixMaster because they can see through the clear bowl and enjoy watching the ingredients mix.The KitchenAid has a metal bowl that is obviously not see-through and has to be hand washed.4)The beaters must be hand washed.5) Reaching into the bowl is a task, unless you don't mind being covered in batter. The bowl is narrower at the top, so there is not much room to get a spatula between the sides of the bowl and the beater.6) Adding ingredients while the mixer is going is also a pain because of the narrow shape of the bowl. 7) You can get a splash-guard sort of plastic device through which to pour wet or dry ingredients. But why should I need a device for a mixer? There should be room enough to pour ingredients directly in.Also, then I have to store these plastic pieces, and they do not fit into the mixer.

My mother says she likes making bread with her KitchenAid which I haven't tried. But for making cookies, cakes, mashed potatoes, etc., I would not recommend the KitchenAid.

It blows my mind that so many people have bought into this mixer with its many inconveniences.I just pulled out the KitchenAid to give it one more try making cookies and was again disappointed.Next time, I'll stick to my cheap old MixMaster.Besides, my 2 girls each get to enjoy a beater a-piece with that one! ... Editorial Review

This attachment performs the cutting and shredding duties your food processor might: select the proper cone, slip it into the plastic housing, and attach all to your stand mixer's hub with a metal shaft. You can shred potatoes, onions, nuts, and chocolate, or slice vegetables for cooking or munching. While it adds versatility to your mixer, the unit is cumbersome to disassemble--more so than KitchenAid's other nifty attachments--and its several parts make it difficult to store. Still, it's easier on your arms than manual slicing and shredding, especially for large quantities, and all parts are dishwasher-safe. --Betsy Danheim ... Read more

Features

  • Instruction book includes uses for cones and recipes
  • Includes two shredding cones, fine and coarse
  • Includes two slicing cones, thin and thick
  • Each works in conjunction with plastic housing and metal shaft
  • Works with all KitchenAid household stand mixers

4-0 out of 5 stars Shred away
This is a great shredder.Absolutly the best out there. It is a lousy slicer.Take the bad with the good I guess.

My wife and I shred lots of cheese because pre-shredded cheese has chemicals added that change the taste and chemical properties of the cheese. This attachment works wonderfully for cheese.

A note on disassembly. Some people have difficulty getting the cone off the plug (if you own one you know what I'm talking about). The very easy way to remedy this is to remove the cone from the plug before removing the plug from the machine. If you follow this one rule you will have very easy setup and take down.

3-0 out of 5 stars Life's too short to fight with appliances
Although these attachments did a good job of slicing & shredding, I found it difficult to get the cones off after I was finished. The cones get jammed in there somehow, & it's a royal pain to unjam them. I wasn't slicing & shredding large batches of vegetables, so I don't know why this happened. Be that as it may, because of this experience, I sold them & bought another food processor.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Food Processor Is Easier
I just love Kitchen Aid.I own the stand mixer with every attachment that it comes with, the blender, and I'm about to purchase the food processor to replace my old one that is not a kitchen aid.
This particular attachment has not been very useful for me.I tried to shred and slice onions, and celery but neither of them worked.Carrots on the other hand come out great, but how many carrots can you eat?
I have found that using my food processor works much better I end up chopping every thing, but I can deal with that. The only other thing I could think of to use this for is cheese. However, once it's all shredded the cheese begins to dry out, even if it's in tupper ware.So you have to use the cheese up in about a week.
If you are debating on which accessories to buy here is my advice.I like the Vegetable Strainer best, then the Food Grinder, Rotor Slicer/Shredder, and finally the Pasta Maker Plates. As a side note I use my stand mixer about 2 - 3 times a week, and I only used my accessories once in a blue moon.Save your money and kitchen storage space and use a food processor instead. ... KitchenAid KFP670 Professional Food Processor, White
by KitchenAid
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $279.99

Editorial Review

This sleek appliance demonstrates why KitchenAid food processors enjoy an unsurpassed reputation. It's big: the main bowl holds 11 cups. It's powerful: a 670-watt motor guided by an electronic sensor provides smooth, consistent speed. It's remarkably easy to use: precisely fitted parts assemble and disassemble quickly, the flick of a fingertip controls the on/off and pulse switches, and a two-piece food pusher makes it easy to process herbs and other small items. It's flexible: a 9-cup chef's bowl nearly doubles the processor's capacity while permitting a second ingredient to be processed without cleaning the main bowl, and a 3-cup minibowl with its own blade fits inside the big bowl for smaller jobs.

Operating the processor is a thrill--like driving a luxury car. It weighs 10-1/2 pounds and measures 14-1/2 inches high, 8-3/4 inches wide, and 10-1/2 inches deep. There are no seams to trap food, making cleanup a simple matter of wiping the base and placing all parts in the dishwasher.

Included with this model is a citrus press for quickly extracting juice; a whip for egg whites and cream; a dough blade; a thin (2 millimeters), reversible disc for slicing and shredding; and medium (4 millimeters) shredding and slicing discs. All store in a transparent plastic case (10-1/2 by 7-1/2 by 7 inches). The instruction booklet is exceptionally easy to follow and includes dozens of recipes. Should the processor fail during its first year, KitchenAid's total replacement warranty guarantees delivery of another machine. Other than that unlikely eventuality, no cook would part with this processor. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it love it love it
We haveno complaints about this processor. I have used probably all the attachments except the egg whip- no, wait, we used that too! It all works great! No problems since everything works as promised. Good to see some things still are made mostly like they used to be.

3-0 out of 5 stars Difficult cleanup, components not hardy enough
I bought this KitchenAid food processor about three or four years ago after doing extensive research between this and Cuisinart. It functions as promised and I've used it to grate cheese and mix/puree various items. It's a nice-looking and weighty appliance.I've had no problems with the blades gouging plastic as other reviewers have said, and there's been no problem with the motor dragging.

However, I've started making homemade pet food and it seems that the 11-cup bowl is not nearly large enough.Furthermore, the bowl and lid are fragile:I've already had to buy a replacement bowl because one of the safety teeth in the bottom broke off, rendering the machine inoperable.Additionally, the lid has a crack in it; although it still functions, it's only a matter of time before that needs replacing too (and the replacement lid is sold separately from the bowl). You'd think I'm an ogre who treats my belongings harshly, but that's not the case.

Another thing that sorely irks me is that there are many crevices in the lid where ingredients get jammed, and it does not clean up easily. From what I can gather by looking at product photos, they've upgraded the design of the lid (to include a much-needed larger chute), so I don't know if this is still a problem.

Tip:If you're going to grate cheese, stick the cheese in the freezer first to harden it.Soft cheese will definitely be gummed up in the shredder blade and won't make for an easy clean-up.

Fortunately for me, I recently got a good deal on a Cuisinart 14-cup food processor. Here's to hoping it will be more durable and easier to clean than my KitchenAid.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making the switch from Cuisinart to KichenAid
When I wrecked by decade-old Cuisinart, I was all set to buy a newer model Cusinart to replace it. That is until I looked at various consumer reviews and decided to switch to KitchenAid (I have the KitchenAid large mixer, which has been reliable for many years). I'm thrilled with this model KitchenAid food processor and glad I made the switch. I ordered the black model to match all of my other appliances. The old Cuisinart looks like a toy compared to this model KitchenAid (to be fair, a comparable new Cusinart might be just as large and powerful.) The juicer is a plus; I'll be putting away two other electric juicers. The KitchenAid is fast, heavy (an asset) and quiet. Great new toy. I appreciated all the other comments, which helped me make my decision. Best yet...I ordered it from Amazon (free shipping plus a rebate) and it was delivered in LESS than two days! Could not believe it! Wonderful service. Thank you!! ... Read more

This is the blender of the future. It performs all thetraditional blending tasks (crushing ice for margaritas, thinning icecream) plus it can be used like a food processor (mincing garlic, puréeing peppers). The wide jar is rounder and squatter thanold-style blenders, which makes it easier to reach in and scrape thesides (when the blender is off!). To reduce splatters of strawberrydaiquiri, the Step Start feature starts blending slowly, then picks upto the chosen speed. This blender also comes with a booklet containing75 recipes--my favorite is the Frosty Chocolate Raspberry Latt&eacute.--Dana Van Nest

Editor's Choice:KitchenAid's five-speed blender has a number offunctions that set it above the crowd as our choice for best blenderunder $100. It starts with the five speed settings and the pulsefunction, which works at any of the speeds--a really nice touch. 1-0 out of 5 stars Rubber Drive Teeth Don't Last
We have had this blender foryears now.We bought it after seeing one that our friends owned. We have used it for milk shakes, smoothies, and crushing ice.Honestly, we loved it.Then the blender our friends owned died. The rubber teeth used to turn the blade disintegrated. We felt bad for them, but never thought such a fate waited for us.Today our rubber drive teeth crumbled into dust.Garbage.Very badly engineered.Don't buy one if longevity means anything to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME...what's with all these competitors' SHILL reviews?
After my Krups died (lasted 4 years) I did a ton of research before I bought this blender, and in the end the choice was just too obvious: there is no other blender in this price range with this amount of sheer power, not even close.

The KitchenAid just blows away the competition from Cuisinart to Braun to Oster to Waring. It certainly was a night and day difference from my old Krups, which took about 3 times longer to do the same work (pureeing 35 oz of bananas and oatmeal with 5 oz of soy milk and yogurt). My sister has the Cuisinart 600watt model and it was also no comparison.

So what sold me on the KitchenAid, despite all the one-star single-reviewers?(NOTE: sure sign of paid shills, aside from the anonymous ones---only one review to their entire history or all their reviews praise one brand and/or attack another brand.)

1.Weight.Simple and consistent indicator of good quality in any electronic device (including speakers, receivers, etc.) is the sheer heft and weight of the thing---I went to a local housewares shop and simply lifted each and every display model. The KitchenAid easily outweighs all the others by almost double.

2.Blade.The KitchenAid's blades are bigger, thicker, and more multi-level than the competition's.Goes through everything in a jiffy.

3.Ease of pitcher movement: very easy to put the pitcher on the machine and take it off, zero twisting---just set it straight down.

4.Nice thick glass on the pitcher.Looks like you could kill somebody with the thing!

My dislikes:

1.Pitcher is only 40oz, my old Krups had a 50oz pitcher.

2.Plastic/rubber lid is kind of a pain to put on and take off, it's so darn tight.

3.I wish they would just have the simple flip switch controls that the VitaMix blenders have...without the VitaMix price tag, of course!

Now I have to say that I've only had this blender for about a month, but my neighbor has had his for two years and has never had the kinds of problems that many of the MYSTERY reviewers here claim, and the guy is a margarita fiend.

Hmmmm...could this just be a case of badmouthing the competition?

1-0 out of 5 stars smoothies not so smooth
although this blender is beautiful, mine wasn't able to perform even the most basic of blender tasks adequately. despite several minutes of full-speed blending, it left a banana smoothy full of banana chunks big as marbles. even my old $25 blender could handle a soft banana! as decor, it's fine, but as a blender, it doesn't cut the mustard (or the banana). ... After three days with Black & Decker's Flavor Scenter, I had used it to perfectly steam asparagus, artichokes (flavored with garlic in the steamer's flavor screens), and leeks. Though I doubted its usefulness when I first got it, I was a convert! This is an extremely useful appliance, a real boon especially to those trying to eat more healthily. The steam bowl's oblong shape perfectly holds vegetables, such as asparagus and corn, as well as three (or six, when layered) mid-size artichokes, which fit in upright. The rice cooker bowl is slightly smaller but can still hold 7 cups of cooked rice. Put water in the base and vegetables, seafood, or rice in the steamer; set the timer according to the instruction manual; and have your hands free until it rings. As an added feature, two small screens below the bowl can be filled with herbs to scent and flavor whatever's cooking. This cooker would also be ideal in a starter kitchen or dorm room, where its multiple uses would really come in handy. It's dishwasher-safe, but because it doesn't ever come near grease, it's easily wiped clean. --Maria Dolan ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Its amazing!!!!
Hi
My family is really enjoying the food after we got this cooker. Its amazing.I soley use this cooker to cook rice.Actually I'm used to cook rice in electric cooker. Now,after I got this slow cooker I dont think I'll ever go back to the electric one.The rice is so fluffy that I'm really relishing my meal everyday. Its more than worth for 19 bucks. At the same time it has its own disadvantage in time consuming.Ya to cook 2 cups of rice it nearly takes 45-50 min.Other than this fact its worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rice Rescue!
I have been wanting a rice steamer and am so happy to have treated myself to this B&D one! It really does a great job on rice, much better than the boil-in-the-pot rice I have always settled for. The rice is delicious after being steamed. It works wonderfully well on veggies too! I'm trying it on those dry boring boneless skinless chicken breasts next!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for bums like me who don't cook
This was bought for me for my birthday by a woman I shall only refer to as She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed. I don't cook. I turned my gas oven off years ago. However, I found this thing is great, and easy to use. Contrary to other reviews, I found it cooks rice -- and everything else -- in a hour. Dump everything in the bowl and twist the timer. An hour later-- ding! A hot meal. And this is from a guy whose ideal of a hot meal is a fast-food hamburger. I don't even need a stove with this thing. I just dump all kinds of beans and vegetables in it --voila' -- I have bean soup. Dang, anybody can be a halfway decent cook with this thing.

Kitchen
list price: $114.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Whether firm country-style or tender French, omelets must be cooked quickly and folded in the pan. A classic omelet pan, therefore, is thick-bottomed for rapid, even heating and shallow with steeply sloped sides so omelets can be rolled easily against its sides. This big pan qualifies on all counts, and it's ideal for sautéing and searing, also. Calphalon's Commercial nonstick cookware is coated with an especially durable, multilayered nonstick material. Use only plastic, nylon, and wood utensils. The pan is anodized for hardness. For that no-nonsense, professional-kitchen look, this cookware wears a matte finish. Polished, cast-stainless-steel handles are triple-riveted for durability and balance and stay cooler on stovetops. Holes in the handles facilitate hanging on hook or peg. Made of heavy-gauge aluminum, pans cook without hot spots or warping. The pan comes with a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

Features

5-0 out of 5 stars Just simply a great pan.
Another nice product from Calphalon. Highly recommended for a great general purpose fry pan. I use it for just about anything and everything.

3-0 out of 5 stars Right pan, but a couple things wrong
12-inch non-stick Cal Comm pan would have done the trick but it arrived (promptly) with a couple defects: 1) An all-too-noticeable machine line at transition to radius (spatula would catch on it), and 2) Three or four raised/marred areas on bottom that made for poor contact on our ceramic top stove.Handle does seem a little more on style and less on ergonomics.
Returned it (Cooking.com - great service people, no problem), but contrary to what was said when we had sent it in, there were no more to exchange.Did get it at significant sale and probably should have kept it, warts and all.Two other C-C pans doing well.

3-0 out of 5 stars What's right and wrong with this pan
I bought this pan because it was on sale at a great price.I've been buying commercial (restaurant) non-stick aluminum from restaurant supply stores for some time.I own three nard anodized Calphalon pans. This pan arrived in time for me to cook dinner with it two nights ago. When I took it out of the box, I was immediately aware that the handle makes the pan unwieldy. It feels that, if it is the least bit unbalanced to either side, the pan will spin in your grip. The lid from my "chicken fryer" fits this pan, which is a help. I expect my wok lid to also fit, though I haven't tried yet.The non-stick surface worked fine.A broader, more manageable handle and/or a helper handle would make this a great pan. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not quite up to the quality control standards of All-Clad...
This appears to be Calphalon's direct attempt to compete with the Rolls Royce of cookare, All-Clad.I certainly had no problem with the box the pan was shipped in.I also understand that even All-Clad is starting to manufacture in China.

The pan was a little shallow compared to other 8" omelet pans in my collection. This means a little more care must be taken when cooking to avoid spills onto the burner. The inner surface, a not unattractive 'satin' finish, contained a small, but obvious 'ding'.This was not due to the packaging and must have happened during the manufacturing/packing operation.I have to think that All-Clad would not have allowed such a dented pan to escape its plant.

Keep trying, Calphalon. You have a good idea and if you will try to improve your quality, you will be breathing down All-Clad's neck!

3-0 out of 5 stars MUST own a dishwasher with this item
I treated the pan just like I should and though I like the fact that I can put it in the oven and it's a good size, it's difficult to clean.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Value and Quality
It's great for carmelizing medium batches of onions and sautéing mushrooms. It you want to braise up a prepared large chicken breast (or two small ones), it's perfect as well. This TriPlypan stacks up well to All-clad and is a bit better for most of my needs than the 7-1/2 inch sauté All- Clad I have. The handle fits my hand better also.

Dimensions aside, for the price and quality, go with Calphalon TriPly Stainless unless you absolutely have to have the most expensive. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pan!
This pan is an awesome value as the quality is very high. The heating is even the entire cooking surface of the pan.I definitely recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great everyday pan!
Received this two days ago and have prepared two meals. Don't know why anyone would say there is a problem with clean-up.All I did was a short soak and used a scrubby and it was good as new.The feature I like best is that although the diameter of the pan is much larger than my gas burner it does heat evenly.I usually have to rotate the food to the center of the pan for cooking but not with this pan - that is a real timesaver. I also like the depth of this pan - deep enough to prepare one dish meals. Being five quarts it can easily make a one dish meal for 4-6 (with some stirring room)and I almost wish I got a little larger pan for my family of five. This pan will definitely be the most used in the kitchen given its handy size.

Remember to check out some of the similar products for the best price although I bought this with a gold box coupon for about 20 less. There is a 99 set with a stock pot, 5 qt and an omelette pan that seems like a better deal and aless expensive 12 inch everyday pan that is awfully similar (except for the straight sides).

This product met my expectations and more.I'm adding more Calphalon to my wishlist and will definitely be collecting more of their products.

5-0 out of 5 stars Calphalon is simply the best
I purchased my first Calphalon saucepan 15 years ago, when I went off to college. It was from the Professional Hard Anondized line.I had become interested in cooking, and found myself frustrated with low-quality cookware that did not heat evenly or consistently, and bought the Calphalon saucepan at the suggestion of a friend.I still have that first saucepan, as well as numerous other pans from both the Professional Hard Anondized and the Commercial Hard Anondized lines.Every single piece has performed flawlessly hundreds of times, and each looks as fabulous as the day I bought it.

I have never experimented with Calphalon's other, less durable lines (e.g., Simply Calphalon, etc.), but I can vouch for the incredible performance and durability of both hard-anondized lines.Cleaning Calphalon is simple: handwash with warm water, a sponge and a scouring cleanser such as Ajax. With proper care, your Calphalon pans will last for generations. ... This straight-sided 2-1/2-quart pan can be used for sauces and, covered with its flat lid, for stews and casseroles. Shallow (3 inches) in relation to its capacity and diameter (8-3/8 inches), this pan, unlike conventionally proportioned saucepans, exposes lots of surface and is therefore ideal for reducing sauces or even stocks and broths. Though it's not nonstick, like some Calphalon cookware, the matte-finish pan is anodized for stick-resistance as well as hardness. Metal utensils won't harm the surface. The contoured, textured handle is cast stainless steel and resists heating on the stovetop; it's also triple-riveted for durability and balance. Made of heavy-gauge aluminum, the pan cooks without hot spots or warping and carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice saucepan, good price
I have used this pan for around 3 months, so far I satisfy with my purchase through Amazon. it do have a distinguish difference between other cheap saucepan, but sometimes I found that it's rather sticky.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is THE one!!
I love it! The only thing Ive had a problem with (and I even had this happen with my wolfgang puck cookware) is heating oil to fry the kids some french fries. If you dont let it heat just like the directions say then the frozen food will stick pretty bad! But thats minor and with how fast these little babies heat its not even a problem. Im giving away the puckware. Ive got the whole calphalon H.A. line. I love it!! Calphalon cookware does it all.... What everyone says about not being dishwasher safe... Even if it was I wouldnt put mine in the dishwasher.. I wont even use metal on them. To me they are worth the extra care they require.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast cooking
The wide, shallow form factor means a high ratio of surface area to volume exposed to heat. These aluminum pans also take high heat well, quickly spreading the heat uniformly around the pan, reducing any "hot spots" that may form. This all translates to a pan that can cook well with high heat, getting you to a boil faster and shortening the time it takes to reduce sauces. Foods don't stick very much, though it takes some scrubbing to remove the light brown film that forms over time from the higher temp cooking. ... Read more

Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 3-1/2-Qt Windsor Pan with Lid

Editorial Review

They say that the true measure of a chef is her sauce, and this 3-1/2-quart Windsor saucepan goes a long way toward establishing your culinary credentials. All sauces need to simmer slowly and evenly, and Calphalon's evenly conducting hard-anodized saucepans are tailor-made to do just that. At 5 inches deep, 9-1/2 inches in diameter at the top, and 7 inches at the bottom, this saucepan is constructed out of heavy-gauge aluminum in the classic Windsor style, with gently sloping sides to speed evaporation and facilitate whisking. It's ideal for rapidly heating liquids or reducing delicate sauces like béarnaise or crème anglaise. (First-timer's tip: Try cooking over a lower setting than you customarily use. Calphalon cookware conducts heat so exceptionally well--and quickly--that it's easy to overdo the first few times around.) Unlike cookware coated with a synthetic nonstick finish, the hard-anodized surface won't chip, crack, or peel if you use a metal spatula, and it doesn't react with acidic foods such as citrus or tomato. The ergonomically designed stainless-steel handle stays cool for stovetop cooking. All of Calphalon's commercial hard-anodized cookware comes with a lifetime warranty, and if treated with care, it'll last as long as you do. Always wash this cookware by hand with mild cleansers, and don't place a hot pan in cold water--it could warp. --Mary Park ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Customer Service
We have a 4 qt. saucepan of a similar description. The inside bottom of the pan is pitted and chalky.Calphalon has not responded to our request for explanation.

5-0 out of 5 stars My NEW favorite pan
I have a dozen pieces of Calphalon Commercial cookware and the Windsor pan has now moved to the front burner. Since I received it a month ago I have used it almost every day.

First, the funnel-shaped design means the bottom of the pan is smaller in diameter than you would expect from such a large pan. This means it fits perfectly on one of the small burners of my radiant cooktop, freeing up the large burners.

It's a big pan. I was expecting something more dainty but this pan is really big enough to cook in. And the sloped sides, while apparently designed for reducing sauce and stock, also do a really nice job of keeping stuff in the pan as you stir, whisk, mash, or otherwise jostle it around. This pan rocks.

For you point of origin fanatics, you will be pleased to hear that my pan is stamped as Toledo, Ohio, USA, rather than China.

Even my teenage boys who communicate in grunts and monosyllables say "Hey, Dad, this is a cool pan." Case closed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique Windsor Pan
I have had this saucepan for a few months now and I'm really enjoying it.The quality and design are excellent. The Windsor is wonderful for sauce reductions or use with any recipe that needs to be concentrated.I have used it for marinara and bolognese and also for soups and chili.Cooking.com no longer carries this pan.I got it on clearance for a really great price and am very pleased with the product. ... Calphalon Commercial Nonstick Flat Bottom Wok

Editorial Review

Calphalon nonstick pans are kitchenware built to last a lifetime. This 12-inch flat-bottom wok, for example, is excellent for making great chicken, pork, or vegetable stir-fry, with a heavy-gauge aluminum exterior that assures even heating and a nonstick interior that makes low-, or no-fat cooking possible. Use a light hand on the heat dial though, to protect the nonstick surface from overheating, and use plastic, coated, or wood utensils to protect the finish. The curved handle is easy to grip and stays cool, thanks to a V-shaped split where it meets the pan. There's also a short looped utility handle on the opposite side of the pan for heavy lifting. Unlike pans with plastic or wood handles, the extremely sturdy all-metal construction provides the flexibility to put the pan in the oven--up to 450 degrees. Remember to hand wash all Calphalon pans--dishwasher detergents are bad for the finish, and their use voids the lifetime warranty. --Dale Steinke ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Wok for Stir-Frying
This baby has become a staple in my kitchen. I do stir-frying a lot of the times and even though I have other Calphalon products that could also handle stir-frying, I find myself reaching for this wok time after time, almost on auto-pilot. Unlike one of the reviewers who experienced some frustrations with this wok on his electric stove, I find mine to work extremely well with my gas stove. With medium-high heat, this wok gets hot very fast and cooks up meat and veggies in no time. Cleaning the wok is almost as enjoyable as cooking with it.

The only downside to this wok, as is the issue with any other Calphalon non-stick product, is that you are not supposed to clean the wok with water immediately after using it. Running water over the hot surface may warp the non-stick coating. Since I usually make more than one stir fried dish a time and always have the need to clean the wok so that I can move onto the next dish, I find this requirement somewhat annoying. I am going to buy another work-horse style wok (one that can be rinsed immediately after usage, no non-stick, can withstand abuses) to complement this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars When it is not a Wok it's Excellent
Stir-frying in a wok - if it is to be done right, must be done at a high temperature so as to brown correctly and create a fond.In general, you cannot brown very well on ANY non-stick surface - you certainly cannot create a fond.So if you want good stir-fry you need a steel wok, commercial style stove and wok-ring.

Fortunately I did not know this when I bought this pan on impulse in 1995.It has failed several stir-fry tests, but it's non-stick coating is foolproof. And I find that it is perfect for a host of other uses. Most of the time I use it to make big batches of sauces. I like the sloping edges because I can see into the pan withoutducking underneath the vent hood. And the wok shape makes stirring very successful.

It has recently become my favorite pan for making omelettes, though a 10 inch calphalon commercial non-stick pan is on my short-list.

I use this pot/pan more than any other in my kitchen. And the non-stick coating is in mint condition after seven years of heavy use.(Some time earlier I had purchased a smaller calphalonwok whose non-stick coating wasn't very non-stick.And the handle on that older pan was not impressive.)

The COMMERCIALwok has a very stylish, comfortable, and cool handle as well as a durable, really slick surface. If you are going with non-stick, I can give the Calphalon Commercial line my highest recommendation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not if you have an electric stove
This wok just isn't meant for chinese cooking on an electric stove. First,I tried cooking with it on my regular flat element (the swirly thing on thestove that gets heated up by the current). The wok just couldn't get hotenough.

Then I put some money into a special stove-element that curvesup to hug the curve of the wok to allow it to conduct more heat. Still nogood. All in all, this is a wok of frustrations.

for those who are notfamiliar, chinese stir fry requires an EXTREMELY hot wok. You want to throwyour meat in and have it sizzle and cook it fast and then remove it. Thatis a HUGE part of what makes good chinese cooking. Your ability to controlthat fast cooking. It is extremely difficult to get this wok to that stage.I have to leave it on the stove without oil for like 3 to 5 minutes, thenput the oil in, come back in another 1 to 2minutes. then start cooking. But after a little while, it looses all its heat again. and you have to gothrough the whole process for your next dish.

all in all, if you arechinese and you are looking for that old school chinese cookin'. this isnot the wok for you. find a nice chinese made wok. the chinesemanufacturers usually are more familiar with the essential issues at hand. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most valuable pot in your kitchen. Buy It!
Three years ago, I ordered one of these beauties because I noticed that each and every host on the Food Network, from Martha to Mario was using this pot. I didn't know Le Creuset from Adam, and I thought the height of culinary sophistication was my eight quart Calphalon anodized aluminum Dutch oven. I even went so far in thinking that the TV guys were using this pot because it was white on the inside, so it was easy for the camera to see what was going on.

Boy, was I wrong. Ever since I got this pup, I have used it for every soup, every braise, every stew, and every pot roast I have made since. At about the same time I got an oval shaped pot and a similar sized pot shaped primarily for making soups. All three are about the same size and weight. I never use the other two except when I have something which is a lot longer than it is wide.

The heat management is flawless, it is easy to clean, and it is tolerant of too much heat.

As other reviewers have noted, it is a bit heavy, so if you commonly have problems with heavy cookware, consider a smaller one or my retired aluminum pot.

Very highly recommended for both gas and electricity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing quality
Beware it's heavy but you'll keep it for your life and will pass it one to your kids ... Well that's what everybody says so let's hope that we'll take care of it and that it will happen.
We got it as a wedding gifts a couple of months ago and already used it many many times for anything from soup to beef stew to ratatouille.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Serious Cooking Tool
This massive, weighty, cast iron, ovenproof pot is a serious cook's dream.Though expensive, like all Le Creuset cookware, it's high value is proven by the stovetop and oven performance.

In the oven, internal heat distribution is perfectly uniform, eliminating sticking, beautifully cooking large roasts. On the stovetop, long, slow cooking is perfectly executed.

Though there is no "positive" seal between the pot itself and its lid, the high level of fit and finish between the two pieces retains all liquids and moisture.

Clean~up is a cinch..., just soak in warm soapy water and the surfaces wipe clean (you may however need to purchase a larger kitchen sink to accomodate this monster).

The company offers a lifetime warranty on the enameled surface they apply to their high~grade cast iron; the quality of manufacture is so supurb I cannot imagine ever having to make use of it (I own inherited Le Creuset pieces over 40 years old with still~perfect enamel).

If you are a serious home cook prepared to make a serious investment in a lifetime tool, buy this pot. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great dish!
I'm a true Longaberger fan, but since they're getting out of control on their prices lately, I thought I'd try something else. This piece by far is the ONLY piece of pottery that I've found that can stand up to Longaberger's quality. This dish cleans beautifully and holds a nice-sized lasagna.I'm very, very happy with it and only wish I'd found the Le Creuset brand before now.Grab this dish - it will quickly become your favorite!I love the color!

1-0 out of 5 stars cracked in the oven after 2 months
I was very pleased with the Le Creuset baking dishes I have (I have the Poterie 10" x 13" deep dish baker, 14" oval baker, and 9" square dishes as well as this one). However, my 12" dish just cracked down the middle while I was cooking a pork roast in it at 425 degrees. It had only been in the oven about 45 minutes.I am sorely disappointed and now I am wondering if I wasted my money on the others.I have only had it for about 2 1/2 months.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect.......
I purchased this as a replacement for a Pampered Chef dish that was broken. The pluses include it is attractive, heats evenly. easy clean, and does everything promised in the editorial review.I just wanted to add a caution that this pan while deep enough for most all casserole recipes, double boxed dessert mixes, etc. is not quite deep enough for lasagna.Le Creuset offers another pan of similar size that is deep enough for lasagna so if you have that requirement this may not be the pan for you.

I still love it and would give it five stars if it were a tad deeper.Enjoy, Le Creuset and Emile Henry are both wonderful lines. You may want to check out the Emile Henry line if budget is a consideration as they are also manufactured in France and are priced a bit less.I find the lines coordinate well together and are equal in quality imho. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and functional!
I'm a real fan of Le Creuset products because every piece I have (and, believe me, that's many) performs very well and really holds up to extreme temperature change. This Cherry Red dish is absolutely beautiful (the red gradually gets deeper in color towards the base), and the size is perfect for baking/serving a side dish or hot appetizer, like a dip.It actually makes the food in it look more appealing, if that's possible. Can't ask for much more than something that's both functional and good-looking!P.S.FYI, the color Flame is also very appealing (goes from bright orange to red towards the base).

5-0 out of 5 stars Well made and a joy to use..........
This is a perfect size for two people and the one I have is in such a gorgeous colour of blue.We like it because we can make a two person serving of scalloped potatoes, two pieces of lemon salmon or two almond chicken breasts. For one person you can actually make a piece of meat/fish along with two servings of vegetables and cover with foil and freeze for a quick microwave meal.In fact I am going to get three more of them just for planning ahead heat and eat meals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leftovers
Great presentation pieces for yesterdays leftovers. I freeze main courses (such as stew and goulash) in the dishes. Once frozen, remove from the dishes and freezer wrap. When next you serve, pop the frozen "leftovers" back in the cassolets and reheat in the oven. No one will guess you haven't been chopping, peeling and dicing all day!

4-0 out of 5 stars Casserole Dish
This casserole dish has some minor inconveniences. It's made of some sort of pottery so it cools down very slowly and it's easy to let something sit for 15 minutes and come back and burn your hand.I also learned through this dish that square casserole dishes are easier to cut brownies out of than round or oval ones.It does however cook things just fine and is not too large for what I need it for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes you look like a pro
One of the best things about using the right tool for the job is that it makes you look like you know what you're doing. The Le Creuset oval dish is like that. Instead of reaching for some two-dollar faux Pyrex dish to cook your mac and cheese in, grab the Le Creuset. That way, you can set it, all crusty and golden, on the dinner table and announce to your family that you're serving them a gratin and they'd darn well better appreciate all your hard work. Who knows? It might provoke you to fiddle with the recipe while you're at it.

On the technical side, this is one good, heavy piece of stoneware, well designed for a long, long life. It's got good solid handles so you're not scrabbling for a grip or constantly dipping your pot holder into the food. It's oven-safe to 500 degrees, microwave safe, freezer safe...probably not totally kid safe so I don't recommend its use as a shield in the neighborhood wars. Anyone who has seen my reviews of other Le Creuset kitchenware will know that I have a real fondness for the cherry red color, but there are some other good choices for the more sedate cook. ... Large enough to roast two Cornish game hens, cook a rump roastwith all the trimmings, or hold up to an 18-pound turkey, this15-by-11-inch roaster is a staple for holiday or family dinners. Partof Cuisinart's Nonstick Stainless line of cookware, this roaster isconstructed of mirror-finish 18/10 stainless steel with a layer ofaluminum encapsulated in the bottom for quick and even heating. Thedurable Xylan Plus nonstick cooking surface in the pan's interiorprevents foods from sticking and helps make cleanup easy. Thedomed lid offers additional height for cooking larger roasts or turkeysand seals tightly onto the pan to keep meat juicy and flavorful. Aunique steam vent in the lid pops up to let excess steam escape, ensuring that roasts come out perfectly cooked every time. 4-0 out of 5 stars Love This Pan!
I bought this pan a few months ago based solely on the Cuisinart reputation.I was a bit surprised that it was so thin and light but it hasn't affected the way it cooks.I have used it for everything from a half ham to a gigantic lasagne and have had wonderful results each and every time.If you're looking for a good roasting pan, I recommend this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty darn good!
I needed a roaster but found none with a cover in two major stores so decided to order online.I found this quickly here on amazon, and the price is pretty darn good!
I read all the reviews and own this item for 3 weeks, and used it 4 times. Here's how I think it sizes up:
DRAWBACKS:
1-the only drawback I read about was that the rack rusts, and this is very true.I decided to buy the item anyway, as I really needed a roasting pan and didn't think I needed the rack.It is very dangerous to eat rust so I am surprised and disappointed in Cuisinart for this. The rust does wash right off, and I still do use the rack.I'd just recommend removing it promptly after cooking.
2-i did not see anyone mention that the handles are connected to the non stick bottom and POKE THROUGH TO THE INSIDE.This is a design that I avoid when buying any pot/pan because it makes it harder or impossible to clean. It is so far no problem to clean.

I love this pan as do the other reviewers. The size is perfect (I roast two large, whole chickens with lotsa veggies around) the non-stick works great, the weight is great, and heats VERY evenly. The cover is domed which is perfect for roasting as you start out with a big buncha meat which shrinks as it cooks.

I would, despite the drawbacks, buy this again, and if I ever need a bigger one for a turkey I'll be getting the larger sized one for sure.

3-0 out of 5 stars Scratch and Dent
Unit just arrived and it seems to be a nice roaster with the exception of 3, sharp dents on the inside of the lid that extrude to bumps on the outside of the lid.

No wonder these are going for such a good price.Apparently they are scratch and dent stock that should be listed as such.I'm not up for the task of the return and replace process. ... Read more

Cuisinart's Four-Slice Belgian Waffle Maker turns anyone into a waffle pro! The waffle maker preheats quickly to the desired temperature setting and maintains that temperature while the baker fusses with pouring the batter. A red indicator light shows that the unit is cooking the waffles and then turns green when they're done. The nonstick coating makes it easy to remove waffles and makes the chore of cleaning out the pockets very easy--just use a paper towel. It's even easy enough that kids can learn how to make breakfast. But make sure they use an oven mitt while opening the latch, as steam escaping from the waffle maker can burn. Even the recipes included in the manual are easy to whip up. --Julija Gelazis ... Read more

You haven't bought this yet? What the hell's wrong with you?!Every home should have one of these! You don't have this spiffy waffle maker, don't bother talking to me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Soooo Disappointed!
I had a KRUPS 2-waffle belgium waffle maker and loved it.Flat wore it out.By the time I was ready to get another, I was ready for a four-waffle maker. AFter reading the reviews, chose this one.The thing is a pain to clean up, and the waffles are soggy. Only way to get a crisp waffle out of this is to burn them.Used it twice and threw it away.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lame at best
First waffle iron failed in the same way as mentioned by others - thermostat wouldn't turn off and the iron got VERY hot and had that electrical smoke smell. Our second one, same iron but different model with the thermostat controls in front instead of on top was defective out of the box. Dark crunchy in the middle, golden brown on the edges.

Don't get one of these. It's my last Cuisinart appliance. ... Read more

Le Creuset's brightly colored, virtually indestructiblesilicone spatulas created a buzz when they were first introduced. Nowthis set combines six red ones in a complementary stoneware storagecrock. Not only will these spatulas serve every cooking need, butthey'll add a splash of color to any kitchen. Durable, flexible, andstain-resistant, the spatulas endure incredible temperatures--800degrees F and 425 degrees C--without melting or discoloring. Thespatulas: one tapered, slotted spoon spatula (3-1/2 inches long and2-1/2 inches wide at its base); two solid spoon spatulas (3-1/2 inches by2-5/8 inches and 2-7/8 inches by 2-1/8 inches); and three scrapingspatulas of different widths (2 inches, 1-3/8 inches, and 1 inch). Thehandsome red crock stands 5-7/8 inches high, and its flared mouth is 5inches in diameter, providing plenty of room for tools other than thespatulas. The spatulas' heads slide off their wooden handles to go intoa dishwasher, but hand washing is more convenient. --Fred Brack ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You probably don't need all of these!
I bought this set about three years ago and I simply would not cook without them. I am as enthusiastic as other reviewers who have given this set five stars, except that I only really use two out of the six pieces.

If I had to do it over, I would buy the very attractive pot and three each of the medium sized spoonula and the small spatula. I simply do not use the others. They are gathering dust as we speak.

Now if your cooking is a bit different than mine, you may have different needs, but I cook or bake four or five times a week, and I simply do not use 2/3 of this set. And, it is only the spoonula which gets used in high heat environments.

For room temperatures, I often find more use for a spatula which is a lot stiffer than these silicone plastics.

I recommend you find some way of buying only the pot and six of the medium spoonulas! Even these wear out from small nicks and cuts over time, and you do not want to find yourself without one at hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Set
I bought this same set at an outlet mall (much better price, but same product).

They are very well built and have stood up to just about anything I can throw at them from heat to various sauces. They have never melted, scorched or stained so far! Even though they have wood handles, there is a protective finish that keeps them from staining. I did place one through the dishwasher (not recommended) and it came out fine too.

They have replaced all of my miscellaneous pieces I have had laying around and now I have an attractive addition to my kitchen as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait...
I saw this set in the blue on Amazon just before Christmas for the amazing price of $34.99. Knowing how much these normally are I quickly ordered them and was told they were on backorder and would be shipped to me when they were available. For that price, I would wait as long as it took to get them! I finally got them early February and they are worth the wait. I have used them everyday since receiving them and I wonder how I did without them. I wish I'd ordered my mother a set at the same time I ordered my set. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Heat-resistant up to 400 degrees F, these large nylon utensils won't melt in a hot skillet or on a backyard grill. They're tough and durable, they won't scratch nonstick cookware, and they're dishwasher-safe. Their handles are notched on the backs so they can rest on a pan's edge without sliding, and they have holes so they can be hung on a hook or a peg. The set consists of a 14-inch spatula with a 4-by-4-inch head, beveled to slide easily under food; a 13-inch spatula with a 3-by-3-3/4-inch head, also beveled; a 13-inch ladle with a 5-ounce-capacity head; and a 13-1/2-inch spoon with a 4-inch oval head. --Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars These have lasted for TEN years!!
I got all of these pieces (and then some) for a shower gift nearly 10 years ago.I still have each and every one of them. They are still in excellent condition despite being used quite frequently! They hold up perfectly on high heat...no melting! And, they have caused no damage to my non-stick cooking pots and pans.I can definitely see these lasting another 10 years!I can't say enough good things about them.I'd give them 10 stars if that were an option!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as heat resistant as I was led to believe
I bought these to go with my new Calphalon pans. These utensils are pretty good, they are a good long length and clean easily. However, on the first use of both of the spatulas (carefully following their temperature instructions), the edges began to melt/shred. Called Calphalon and they are sending me a new spatula, no questions asked...hopefully this one will be better. Impressed with their service, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars My heart belongs to calphalon
i am a one brand girl, well, as far as Calphalon goes.My pots are all Cals, and when I saw these, I just knew I had to hve them. They are very sturdy and well used. They seem to take the more extreme temps I wrongfully work with.I know not to turn up the flame so high, one day I shall learn, though I do not think it will be with these melting.Unlike every other brand I have used and cripsed in the past. ...
