5-0 out of 5 stars A God Send
During my big move back to the states, my favorite silver place setting was lost. I secretly feel it was stolen at a gas station in Lambertsville, North Carolina, but since I cannot prove that I will make no false claims. However if North Carolina license plate number c4g-12d, on a early 80's mustang 2 every creeps into Luback,AZ, the driver ( Mr.Paul Clarksten ) better be ready to scrap. Anyway, after the theft/misplacing??, I wasn't the same. My place setting was gone. My wife, the love of my life, mother of my children, got me this stainless steel set in attempt to ease my suffering. I became angry and irrational, telling her bluntly to get out of the house. You cannot replace pure silver with S.S. , you just can't. I finally asked to go live with her mother for a few months while I tried to come to grips with what she had just done to me. About 3 months into our seperation, I broke down and tried the things out, and you know what, they were wonderful. In fact they had all the functionality of my silver. In fact the spoon arch actually was better suited to my mouth curviture then old Silvey Spoon, my nick name for my silver spoon. I achieved bliss for the first time since my loss. To test if I actually was satisfied with the set, I waited 2 more months ( a setteling in period for me and the new place setting to become one. ) before calling for my wife to return. In the 5 month period apparently she fell in love with an old boyfriend, and we got a divorce, and I never see my kids much except on holidays. But I still have my place setting and we get by just fine. I STRONGLY recommend you get one too.

This silverware set was absolutely fantastic! It is priced in the same group of cheap, junky, maybe even plastic silverware, but it is far from it. The silverware is heavy, very comfortable to hold and easy to wash. In my opinion it is an absolute bargain and I would consider paying ($) for the set - not ($)! ... Read more

Calphalon Commercial Nonstick 12-Inch Omelet Pan
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $114.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Whether firm country-style or tender French, omelets must be cooked quickly and folded in the pan. A classic omelet pan, therefore, is thick-bottomed for rapid, even heating and shallow with steeply sloped sides so omelets can be rolled easily against its sides. This big pan qualifies on all counts, and it's ideal for sautéing and searing, also. Calphalon's Commercial nonstick cookware is coated with an especially durable, multilayered nonstick material. Use only plastic, nylon, and wood utensils. The pan is anodized for hardness. For that no-nonsense, professional-kitchen look, this cookware wears a matte finish. Polished, cast-stainless-steel handles are triple-riveted for durability and balance and stay cooler on stovetops. Holes in the handles facilitate hanging on hook or peg. Made of heavy-gauge aluminum, pans cook without hot spots or warping. The pan comes with a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

Features

  • Hand wash with mild detergent and scour with plastic or nylon scrubber
  • Shallow, slope-sided pan designed to cook and fold omelets
  • Heavy aluminum, with thick bottom to heat evenly and quickly
  • Anodized for hardness, with nonstick coating oven-safe to 450 degrees
  • Riveted, cast-stainless-steel handle oven-safe and stays cooler on stovetop

5-0 out of 5 stars Just simply a great pan.
Another nice product from Calphalon. Highly recommended for a great general purpose fry pan. I use it for just about anything and everything.

3-0 out of 5 stars Right pan, but a couple things wrong
12-inch non-stick Cal Comm pan would have done the trick but it arrived (promptly) with a couple defects: 1) An all-too-noticeable machine line at transition to radius (spatula would catch on it), and 2) Three or four raised/marred areas on bottom that made for poor contact on our ceramic top stove.Handle does seem a little more on style and less on ergonomics.
Returned it (Cooking.com - great service people, no problem), but contrary to what was said when we had sent it in, there were no more to exchange.Did get it at significant sale and probably should have kept it, warts and all.Two other C-C pans doing well.

3-0 out of 5 stars What's right and wrong with this pan
I bought this pan because it was on sale at a great price.I've been buying commercial (restaurant) non-stick aluminum from restaurant supply stores for some time.I own three nard anodized Calphalon pans. This pan arrived in time for me to cook dinner with it two nights ago. When I took it out of the box, I was immediately aware that the handle makes the pan unwieldy. It feels that, if it is the least bit unbalanced to either side, the pan will spin in your grip. The lid from my "chicken fryer" fits this pan, which is a help. I expect my wok lid to also fit, though I haven't tried yet.The non-stick surface worked fine.A broader, more manageable handle and/or a helper handle would make this a great pan. ... Read more

Beautiful enough to bring to the table and durable enough to outlive its 101-year warranty against defects, this heavy casserole is perfect for preparing and ceremoniously serving dishes such as baked pasta, steamed mussels, and cherry cobbler.Use it in the oven or on the stovetop. Made of cast iron, with an exterior and interior clad in two coats of Le Creuset's famous bright enamel, the shapely casserole holds 2-1/4 quarts and measures 2-1/2 inches high without the lid. Cast iron is unexcelled for heat distribution and retention, so this casserole cooks foods evenly and gently at low temperatures without hot spots and is suitable for all heat sources. The plastic knob on its heavy, tight-fitting lid is ovenproof to 450 degrees F. Loop handles make this casserole easy to carry, and the casserole is dishwasher-safe. Like all Le Creuset cast-iron products, it is hand cast in a one-of-a-kind sand mold and hand finished at the Le Creuset factory in France. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Delicious
Wow, I chose this one because the appearance is quite beautiful, & I had seen this style on a cooking show 2 months ago & immediately the crush began.
My first cook in this Le Creuset was mexican zucchini & onions w/Extra Virgin Olive Oil.I added a tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Sautéed 1 medium onion till slightly tan then I added 2 medium thinly sliced zucchinis and seasoned the dish w/chicken bouillon.Place the lid on & cook for 10 minutes (do not add water...zucchini has enough moisture).Wow you could really taste the vegetables & the delicious taste of Olive Oil, I just do not remember this same dish tasting this delicious when I cooked it in my stainless steel pots.Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Buffet Casserole
The Le Creuset 2 1/2-Quart Buffet Casserole is a smaller version of their famous 7 1/4-Quart Bouillabaisse pot. These handmade pots combine form and function so beautifully. I love how I can take it from the stovetop (or oven) directly to the table and have a pretty serving dish for any kind of casserole or specialty dish. I have a matching Le Creuset trivet to protect the table from the hot pan.

I use this pan for rice dishes, smaller servings of paella, curry, and calimari. Everything I have made in it has turned out well. Add this casserole to your collection--you will love it! ... Read more

This pan is excellent for big, moist breakfast muffins that will take you through to lunch. Measuring 3-3/4 inches in diameter and just a smidgen less than 2 inches deep, the cups can also be lined with parchment to serve as ramekins for little cakes and puddings. Its sturdy aluminized steel is of a professional quality and exceptionally durable, good for years of Sunday morning muffin baking, and the large size helps keeps muffins moist. As with all Silverstone coated pans, you'll probably need to set the cooking temperature 25 degrees lower than a recipe calls for, because the pan's dark color absorbs heat--you might also want to check baked goods a few minutes earlier than the recipe suggests. --Shannon Borg ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Get giant store bought-type muffins at home!
After wanting a jumbo muffin pan for years, I finally received one as a wedding shower gift, and I love it!You can use this pan with standard muffin recipes that make a dozen small muffins; you'll just get six large muffins instead. With a bit longer cooking time than for smaller muffins, this muffin pan cooked my jumbo muffins to perfection:golden brown and evenly cooked throughout.Plus, it was completely non-stick, so getting the muffins out of the pan--even sticky blueberry-packed ones--wasn't a problem, and clean up was a breeze.A highly recommended item!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ever wanted to make restaurant muffins at home?
This is the product for you! Right after I got it, I couldn't wait to try it, so I ran to the store and bought muffin mix. I used two regular-sized boxes of apple cinnamon muffin mix and got six large muffins with nice domed tops. It took about twice as long for the muffins to bake but they were delicious. Since then I have used this probably every other week for bran muffins, oat bran muffins, etc. It's great if you have overnight guests, in the morning you can serve them freshly-baked restaurant-sized muffins and it's pretty impressive. I highly recommend this item!

Perfect for holiday roasted-meat entrées, this platter is large enough to meet the needs of most families without being too unwieldy. 1-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous product
I bought this corkscrew for my mom after I read some reviews of how revolutionary it was. She opened it and loved it right off the bat. Then, after less than a month, it stopped working. What happens is the little cap that covers the top of metal screw itself pops off as soon as you push down on the handle so the corkscrew just pops out of the top instead of going into the cork. It happens with all types of corks and with any pressure. So this ridiculous $50 corkscrew (at the time i bought it) is completely useless! (unless you want to pay an additional $10 for a replacement. Thanks but no thanks!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product design
I received the 'Rabbit' wine bottle opener as a gift from my sister. Its the best bottle opener I have ever used! We had tried many different openers but none performed like the 'Rabbit', which is a pleasure to use. I have arthritis in my hands & prior to using the 'Rabbit' opening a bottle of wine had been challenging. I highly recommend this product to all.

Spiegelau Vino Grande Riesling Glasses, Set of 6

Editorial Review

Several years ago, an article in Wine Spectator magazine noted the importance of a high-quality glass for improving a wine's looks and enhancing its bouquet. However, the magazine lamented, many of the attributes that increase the beauty and value of the glass actually obscure the wine. Spiegelau's Vino Grande series is part of a connoisseur line designed specifically for wine lovers. The thin rim means less distraction from the taste and texture of the wine. Tap the glass gently with your fingernail and you'll hear the distinctive ping of fine crystal.

This slim, elegant glass measures 8 inches high. The graceful stem is long enough to keep the warmth of your hand from destroying the crisp flavor of the wine, but not so long that it unbalances the glass. These glasses are billed as dishwasher-safe and are sturdy enough for everyday use, as proven by their use in restaurants. Still, we'd recommend hand washing. --Irene Svete ... Read more

Serve your best gin and tonic or homemade lemonade in these glasses. They look great empty, so just imagine how they'll look with ice, thinly cut slices of lime, and a favorite beverage peeking out. This is not fussy glassware, but in its simplicity it's really handsome. The bottoms are thick and have a signature bubble--they look like they're hand-blown. They also have a great heft, which adds to the pleasure of using them, and are versatile, too. Wonderful for a healthy serving of milk or juice, they'll also hold a sparkling soda with ice, and their smooth rolled rim is nice for sipping. 4-0 out of 5 stars Bloody Good Reading!
The reader who picks up this book will find far more than a collection of recipes. The Bloody Mary provies a glimpse of life in Paris of the 20's and a peek into the drinking preferences of the American expatriate writerswho frequented Harry's New York Bar.The photography is excellent, andwhether or not the reader partakes of The Bloody, the book is fascinating. The organization, however, leaves something to be desired, with themuch-sought recipe appearing about the middle of the book. Also, far toomuch of the book may have been dedicated to the application of the BloodyMary toward the relief of hangovers. The best way to handle hangovers isprobably not to get them, to begin with.Since hangovers occur afterdrinking, it may have been more reasonable to place this section at theend.I, too, enjoyed Hemingway's recipe for the Bloody Mary. It's a greatread!

Juiceman Jr. Elite Pro JM211 Juice Extractor

Kitchen
list price: $99.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Whether you're into nutrition-laden wheatgrass tonics or really superb fresh orange juice, a juicer is a great way to go. Fruits and vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet, and additive-free fresh juice is a convenient and quick alternative to eating all of them whole. This Juiceman Junior is best for the more casual juice enthusiast, but is still plenty powerful and quick. Two latches hold the juice bowl, blade basket, and cover on the base unit, which has a footprint comparable to the average blender. Produce cut to the appropriate size goes in the feed tube, then is gently pressed into the blade basket with a plunger. Juice pours out one spout, while the pulp--including seeds and skin--shoots out into a separate pulp basket. The low speed setting is for softer produce such as oranges and apples, while the high speed setting takes care of harder fruits and vegetables such as carrots and pineapples. Enjoy the juice and use the pulp in recipes such as those for carrot cake. A basic cookbook and audiotape of juicing tips are included. --Dale Steinke ... Read more

  • Two-speed control for soft or hard produce
  • Peppy 1/4-horsepower motor quickly juices most fruits and vegetables

  • Medium-capacity pulp receptacle for continuous juicing

1-0 out of 5 stars Great if you love plastic in your juice
I just bought the Juiceman Jr and tried it today for the first time. Within 2 seconds it smells like burning. I did not pay too much attention to it thinking it was probably the motor warming up since it has never been used before. I drank what I thought was a healthy and tasty juice (all made from organic vegetables and fruits) and then went on cleaning the machine. I removed the blade basket and noticed particles of green plastic all over the juice chute. The basket rim rubbed against the blades and went straight into my glass. No need to go any further. [...]

2-0 out of 5 stars works great - if you like plastic in your juice...
well...

after three _days_ of once-a-day use with immediate full cleaning, the blades bent upwards enough to start grating the plastic chute into my juice. :-(

luckily the loud grinding noise and the burning plastic smell made it easy to realize what was going on, and quickly turn the machine off.

someone else mentioned having the same issue and thought perhaps their basket was defective. well, it's possible that both of ours were, but i would say it would definately be something to look out for. check the bottom of your chute after juicing to see if there is plastic being shaved off.

if the chute was even 1/8-inch shorter, this problem would never happen as the blades aren't that tall - even if fully bent upwards (not that mine are, but they are really small blades).

prior to the plastic juice, the machine worked great. carrots, celery, spinach, lemons, grapefruit, grapes, even soft mangos... they all were juiced really well with no splatter.

so - 2 of 5. works great, while it works.

now looking at other brands/models that don't have a chute so close to the blades.

By combining a regular coffeemaker and espresso machine, this1500-watt appliance makes it possible to satisfy every coffee cravingwith a single, compact unit. Separate water tanks permit simultaneouscoffee and espresso brewing for satisfying everyone at once. Theespresso-machine side includes a steam nozzle with a foolproof frothingattachment for creating coffee drinks like cappuccino and café latté.Making espresso follows tradition: tamping the proper amount of coffeeinto a filter basket inside a filter holder, twisting the filter holderonto the machine, pouring water into the machine's boiler, and twistingthe control knob, which instantly goes from the off position to brewingespresso or frothing milk. Depending on the amount of water, up to four2-ounce cups will then be brewed into an 8-ounce glass carafe.

Making regular coffee also adheres to tradition: inserting a filterinto the filter basket, spooning in coffee, pouring water into thecoffeemaker's tank, and pressing a button. Depending on the amount ofwater, up to ten 5-ounce cups of coffee will then be brewed into a50-ounce glass carafe, which sits on a warming plate. 4-0 out of 5 stars This ismy cappuccino, latte coffee dream maker machine
I call this my cappuccino, latte coffee dream maker machine.

If you are looking for a cappuccino & latte coffee maker combo this is the machine for you.The manual that comes with this machine has even picture detail to walk you through making your first cup of latte, cappuccino or just a cup of coffee.I would take the manuals advice and get familar with each item.Because if you do not you will get confused and frustrated. It took me maybe 30 minuts to make my first and after that it has been every morning a Latte on my way into work without having to stop in Starbucks.Just by their coffee (or any coffee will do) and make your own.You can even control your calorie intake by making your own with this Krups coffee maker.

I think that it is a wonderful thing to have the coffee maker making your coffee; when you are opening your eyes getting out of bed. Your coffee is already made.If you are not the Latte every morning type of person. This Kurps coffee espresso combo machine has every type of person in mine for coffee makers & coffee drinkers.

I just think that this machine is durable. The time on the clock is easy to program. The manual is easy to learn to make espresso. It is even easy to make your steamed milk and your froth that goes on top of your lattes & cappuccinos.

Now, you will need to purchase the Krups stainless still Frothing pitcher to go along with the machine. If you make as many Latte's as I will the $10.00 price for the pitcher is not bad at all.It is seperate piece. The machine will already have the measuring spoon in it.To me that is all you need.

The only thing that I do not like to do is to clean the frothing attachment. Please follow that manuals instructions. It would be a wise thing to do.

This is a wonderful machine and I LOVE MINE.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hated it!!!
We were so excited when we bought this machine, it was a gift to ourselves and we thought we would end up saving money making our tasty coffee treats at home well.......

For the first few months it worked just fine, then it suddenly had all kinds of kinks appear. The espresso maker stopped working JUST when the warranty ran out. No steam and no espresso. The coffee maker still works but doesn't make coffee any better or worse than a cheap coffee pot. The lid on the pot broke after about 4 months. If you don't fit the pot on the heating pad just right you will have a countertop of coffee so you have to stand and watch it start to make sure that won't happen. The timer works fine but because of the aforementioned problem doesn't matter much!!

We were very disappointed overall with this machine and I really can't in good conscience recommend it at all!!!! Stay away!!! run for the hills ...seriously!

5-0 out of 5 stars My first espresso maker, and I love it!
I got this machine about 7 months ago and had never made a single shot of espresso before. The instructions were very clear and the machine is very easy to operate. The froth attachment works very well. I have not had any problems with the espresso maker or the coffee maker. I highly recommend it! ... Read more
