4-0 out of 5 stars good value for the price
I have used mine for over a year now and it seems just fine. For the price I think it's a great teakettle. I mean it boils water, what else do you want it to do? Sing a tune?

1-0 out of 5 stars pretty but poorly made
I loved this teakettle when I brought it home! It's pretty, it's fun, and makes boiling water a show. But soon after the plastic parts started to come apart and I am now on this website looking to replace it with something sturdy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lid didn't hold up
This teapot worked well for a very short period. As a previous reviewer stated, the lid broke, screws felt into top and there is no way to fix it. No recourse as the time had past for returns and it was on clearance when purchased. Very disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!
I bought and returned 6 different tea kettles because the whistle was not loud enough and in some cases almost non-existant. I want to be able to hear it from another room (particularly my home office). I was afraid to get this because of some negative safety reviews. But since people said the whistle was good, I decided to take a chance. I love it. The whistle is wonderful. Water stays warm. Comfortable to pick up and pour. All tea kettles I returned had same safety warnings. So the people who said they burned themselves pouring it into a cup (which they shouldn't be holding) or don't like putting it off the burner for a few seconds before pouring should develop new habits. I haven't had any problems pouring from it. Push up the spout from the back, not the front and you won't feel the steam. Use the spout and not the spinner and the spinner won't break. There is no reason to not love this kettle. If I had a gift to get for a shower or something, I would get this. It's great to use and also looks great (I love watching the spinner). Best tea kettle I've ever had.

5-0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC tea kettle!
We've had this tea kettle for over a year now and love it!The handle never gets too hot to hold for starters . . . and of course one must be careful flipping the whistle, but we've never had any problem with the steam or getting burned. My husband liked this one so well that we ordered it for my brother and his family when we spent time at their home this past summer! It's cute, original, novel and quite functional! The only thing I was disappointed in were the muted colors; I was expecting bright red/blue and yellow, but I'd buy it again!

2-0 out of 5 stars Great looks, shoddy construction
This kettle looks great, no doubt.

But it is poorly constructed and dangerous. Be very careful opening the spout cover, or the steam will burn your fingers. Also the spout itself gets extremely hot. As a result, when you pour out water, the water boils the instant it flows through the spout, making it sputter and spill.

Since pushing the spout cover lever is hazardous, I would push the spinner to open the cover. As a result, the spinner fell off after a couple of weeks. The tiny threads that the spinner screws in are stripped, so the spinner is history.

Again, nice looks, but I would not buy it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only Afternoon Tea Book You Will Ever Need
I have been collecting books on afternoon tea for the last twenty years. This outstanding book, against which I judge all others, is a must have for anyone interested in afternoon tea.I have made almost all of the recipes many times and several items, particularly the Victorian poppyseed cake, can be found waiting in my kitchen for guests any day of the week.

Every recipe has consistantly turned out delicious and beautiful. The text is invites repeated reading by its gently lyric style and the photographs are at once dreamy and alluring. You will return to this book time and again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average at best
The photos in this book are lovely, and some of the theme ideas are nice, but honestly, the recipes didn't do much for me, for the most part. If you want some inspiration, and you want some photos for ideas on creating ambience for a nice tea party, then this is a good book; if you're looking for a cookbook, best keep looking.

2-0 out of 5 stars But does it taste good?
Sure, the photos are pretty but are the recipes any good?I tried the raisin scone recipe - it was very dry and the salt needs to be reduced by at least half if not three quarters.I wonder if any recipe testing was done before this book went to print. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Little book packs a punch
I am amazed at how great this tiny book is. It's packed with great recipes and lots of fun tea facts and history. It has no pictures, and usually I'm a staunch photo advocate, but they're not needed, as the directions are very easy to understand and follow.
You do need a food processor for many of the recipes, as tea sandwiches often use a pureed filling, and the assembly required for most is not for the faint at heart. You need time and dedication to carry out most of these, although some quick breads, cookies and sandwiches are an exception. But if it's an impressive spread you want, this book is a great buy. (I have other tea-time books that are bigger, more lavish, much more expensive, and not near as useful as this one!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite before ..... more so now!
This little (?) book has been a favorite. But since going to England, it has become an even bigger must have for me.The recipes are as authentic as I have seen.We stayed at a B&B and she used ones nearly identical - at least I couldn't tell by the taste that there was a difference! We also had tea at Sally Lunn's and the recipes from there are truly right on. I am so glad I had this before I visited. Now I would be "lost" without it.A must have for anyone who loves tea!

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Nice
This little book with the attractive cover is a great source for making teatime eatables.Sandwiches, scones, buns, and pastries are doable with these easy recipes.
I had heard of Sally Lunn bread and Welsh Rabbit and here is a recipe that combines both. And the gingerbread cake brings back memories when my mother used to bake us gingerbread cakes.
You can pick this little book at gift shops, gourmet food shops as well as bookstores. Can stand with the best of my tea accessory books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book
TEA WITH FRIENDS is a terrific resource for those who need specific ideas for year round tea parties. Each chapter suggests one theme party for each month of the year. Within each chapter is background information on the theme, a section entitled "Setting The Scene" in which the author gives suggestions on what service and accessories you could use, as well as ideas for centerpieces and music. She also includes a menu, a featured recipe and a craft project or activity relating to the theme,My favorite is November's Victorian Afternoon Tea. Knight gives insightful background information on how tea became a British obsession during the reign of Queen Alexandria Victoria and the causes behind rise in the popularity of black tea, (one of the menu offerings she suggests). In essence, she not only makes menu suggestions, but she provides the background you need to understand why she is making these suggestions. She also includes an example of what an invitation for your November tea might look like. In "Setting The Scene" she lists excellent suggestions for accenting the table with Victorian charm, as well as detailed instructions on how to make a Victorian centerpiece. There are also music suggestions that would be appropriate for this setting. Knight also includes a full menu with a featured recipe for Watercress and Stilton sandwiches. Finally she incorporates detailed instructions on how to make lavender sachets. Sidebars tell about various traditions of the Victorian royal family. In just a few short pages, you have the background, recipes, serving ideas and special touches for a monthly theme tea party anytime of year.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves tea and is looking for simple, creative ways to share the pleasures of tea time with friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than just another book about tea....
Amazingly, Elizabeth Knight's book achieves the Herculean task of providing a primer for beginners as well as delighting the avid and informed hostess with creative and polished tea themes. The menus serve as both a journey and a destination; have a look and enjoy both!

The art, coupled with the quotations and introductory material make this a delightful book just to leaf through, but the ideas and the warmth of them sing, "It's time for a cup of tea with friends."

The initial chapter, "Taking Tea," launches the novice but serves the informed as a succinct reference. Keep this volume in an easily accessible place!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tea With Friends- Comfort and Confidence
I reach for my copy of Tea With Friends often.Great ideas and interesting information are communicated clearly. Beautiful illustrations give me comfort to browse through and confidence to plan a tea with unique, yet usable ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars utterly charming musical confection
TEA FOR TWO is an utterly-charming musical confection, a fictional story based around the making of the 1930's Broadway musical "No No Nanette", and featuring Doris Day and Gordon MacRae in a magnetic screen pairing.

Wealthy stage-struck Nan Carter (Doris Day) is given a bet.If she says 'no' to everything for 48 hours, she'll get the $25.000 needed to back a big Broadway musical, and star in the leading role.Of course things don't go smoothly as she alienates her affectionate prospective boyfriend (Gordon MacRae), the show already has a hard-boiled hoofer (Patrice Wymore) in the lead, and all Nan's money has been lost in the Stock Market crash!

Eve Arden plays Nan's wisecracking secretary, with Billy DeWolfe as the double-talking producer and Gene Nelson as the show's lead male dancer.S.Z. Sakall, old 'Cuddles' himself, plays Nan's well-meaning uncle.

The final sequence with the condensed "No No Nanette" performance is quite an eyefull; also thrilling is Patrice Wymore's manic "Crazy Rhythm", Doris Day sweetly reciting the Title Song and Gordon MacRae with "I Only Have Eyes for You".Day also gets to show off her astute dancing skills with Gene Nelson in "I Know That You Know".

A real charmer of a musical, and a clever way to tell the "No No Nanette" story from a different slant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stupendous!!!!!!!!!!
Tea For Two is a wonderful, fun, movie that I don't think anyone can really hate! Doris Day (My personal favorite), stars as Nanette Carter, the lovely, stage struck girl. Whose uncle, Uncle Max (S.Z Sakall), is a rich uncle until the stock market crashes!! Broke, Uncle Max tries to tell Nanette, but can't. And is absolutely horrified that without knowing it, he bet Nanette $10,000 she can say no to every question for 2 days0

Nanette needs the money so she can back her crooked, scheming, 'fiance' Larry (Billy DeWolf) broadway show, in which she is to play the leading part.

Well, disaster, obviously ensues when the whole show has to stay at Nan's estate, she must say no to the the guy she loves, (Gordon Macrae)and the bet even forces her to give up her part in the play!! Wonderful songs like: Tea For Two, I Only Have Eyes For You, Be Happy, OH Me OH MY O You!, Crazy Rythem, No, No Nanette, and Call the Sea, make this movie perfect!!

Gene Nelson, also does a wonderful, daring tap number on a stair case. Such as running up the banister, or cartwheelin down. Eve Arden pops in with her dry remarks and silly jokes (Who else could do them like she could??). A wonderful, happy ending like all her movies, this movie cannot miss! So, if you're considering buying this, don't condider and go ahead!! This movie really has it all: Singing, dancing, comedy, romance, and more!!

Elinor Donahue (Father knows best, and later Andy Griffith)also enters as Nan's daughter in the end of the movie. Warner Brothers did a excellent job, as did David Butler. Doris's acting and singing are so smooth and wonderful, it's like you want to jump in the screen and dance with her. Her first number in the movie is with Gene Nelson tap dancing, while Gordon plays the piano during a dance lesson, to the song: I Know. Superb!!

Please this is a wonderful movie that if you have not seen, you ARE missing out!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Doris Day Movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doris Day is so wonderful in this movie! I am a HUUUUGGEEE fan of Doris Day and this is one of her best movies. I love watching her dance and hear her sing. Gene Nelson and Eve Arden are funny and bright and the songs are great! My favorite songs are Crazy Rythem, I Wanna be Happy and No, No Nanette. Take it from me, SEE IT! Believe me you won't regret it! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Who knows more about tea than the British? When the British Tea Council asked Bodum to develop a new way of brewing tea, the result was this unique press that's almost as much fun to look at as it is to use. Simply fill the strainer with tea leaves and add boiling water--a slow process, but well worth the time. (You could also use tea bags, but why would you want to?) The clear jug lets you see the tea as it's steeping, allowing you to customize its strength to your taste. When the tea is strong enough, slowly depress the plunger to stop the brewing. You won't have any tea leaves to read at the bottom of your cup, but there's no mess and no need to remove the strainer before you pour. But be forewarned: the Bodum press doesn't retain heat quite as well as a traditional teapot, so you might want to use a tea cozy if you're not drinking the whole pot in one sitting. It's a shame to cover up such a beautiful design, but that's the way the tea leaf tumbles. --Mary Park ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Teapress OK but perfectible
Just got my 1 litre teapress. Did not come with a pad like all Bodum coffee presses; that's disappointing, and sorely missed. I don't find the user-friendliness quite optimal... The press is okay, sort of, but I would just as well like to have the option of another cover to go and serve the tea without that whole column apparatus flip-flopping around the pot's opening, into which the tea press does not fit snugly. Cleaning it is also somewhat of a clumsy affair. I have used loose herbal concoctions and not had the press's holes clog up so far, as a previous reviewer alluded to, but I'll be trying finely cut Russian Kousmichoff tea soon, and will keep my fingers crossed. Finally, while the coffee presses have metal filters and spring-loaded O-rings, the tea press has a silicone O-ring seal and I have my doubts as to its longevity. Voilà! Bonne chance...

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice modern look but difficult to clean after using
I really like the appearance of this Bodum teapot, and the ability to see the brewing in progress.

That's a plus when using loose tea, but I found that the little leaves got caught in the holes of the steeping insert. Removing them took quite a bit of extra time and attention to detail. Plunging or not plunging made no difference to the problem as the leaves seem to get stuck during the steeping process as the water slowly circulates.

I am surprised I am the only one to have mentioned this drawback to date, but perhaps others are not using bulk leaf teas. I suppose using tea bags will solve the problem.

This item is now retired from daily use and will be sure to be offered for a dollar at my Spring yard sale. In the end, I found that a Chatsford teapot with plastic mesh filter insert is the best on the market. Finding a Chatsford requires the patience of a Sherlock Holmes. I do wish Amazon would carry them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product.
Pair this 6-cup beauty with a mug warmer and you have tea for an afternoon/evening of reading or computer work. Well designed, practical, it works! Buy this! ... Read more

With its chrome-plated legs and gracefully scrolled handle, this teapotcries out to be brought to the table, not relegated to kitchen use. It uses theclassic infusion method to create a superlative cup of tea. To use, simply placetea in the center filter basket, pour hot water into the pot through the leaves, replace the lid, and let the contents brew 3 to 7 minutes depending on the kindof tea used. When a drink is at the desired strength, just pull out the centerbasket and replace the lid. 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully made, adds to tea time enjoyment
This elegant tea infuser is just what you need for loose tea leaves, especially the green tea that is sold with instructions to rinse clean the first brew. The design is functional and the 3 prong stand is stable. It is just right for two cups of tea.And with green tea you can make several brews, so that in between brews, you can easily lift out the inner basket with the metal handle.I got [it] here at Amazon, ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Best teapot I've ever owned
I've always known that tea leaves need space to expand so that you get the most flavor out of them. I used to use those constrictive tea balls. Later, I just put the tea directly into my cup and then spooned out as much of it as I could before drinking. I picked up some better quality tea leaves and wanted to get the most out of them with a real teapot so I searched around and I'm so glad I discovered this teapot. It makes brewing tea so much simpler and looks quite attractive. (I didn't want a more "traditional" porcelain type teapot; this is a nice modern update to that model).

Someone mentioned that it didn't make 32 ounces. Well, I never actually measured it but it's not really an issue for me because I only pour in enough water to make enough tea for my 20 ounce mug (which I've worked out to pouring the water just to the bottom edge of the "Bodum" logo on the glass). Unless you're planning on making more than four 8oz cups of tea at a time, you shouldn't have any problems with the capacity of this teapot. If you plan on making more than that, you should look for a larger teapot!

The strainer works quite well and keeps in most of tea. A little bit of the "dust" makes it through, but it settles to the bottom and won't get into your cup if you pour slowly and steadily. The strainer is designed quite well, It's basically a half-dome basket with a metal rod/handle across the top to make it easy to pick up. It's very easy to scoop the tea out after you're done with it. I had no problems pouring tea out with the strainer inside, it works just as well as when the strainer is removed. Since the "spout" doesn't protrude that much, it works best to pour slowly. I usually just lift the lid a bit before pouring. They probably could have extended the spout just a little bit more for better pouring, but that would probably detract from the aesthetics.

The teapot and strainer are easy to clean with a quick rinse.
And it looks nice sitting on the kitchen countertop.

UPDATE: After using this for a while, I have noticed a tendency for rusting if I don't wipe the outside dry after washing. It's because the glass sits inside the metal frame outside, and water can get stuck between the glass and metal. I don't have rust on mine because I make sure to wipe it after every wash, or leave it upsidedown. It might become a problem if you leave it right-side-up after washing because the water will drip onto the metal frame. Despite this, I'm still pretty happy with the teapot.A little care during washing will keep it lasting a long time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice design
Turns out that the body is made of glass and except for the metal frame, everything else is plastic. It says so on the box. Also, it says it makes 32 ounces, but I was only able to pour in about 25 ounces of water. The design is very attractive and practical. The main reason I bought this was because cleaning is very easy. The infuser is basically a strainer that fits nicely into the body. This way it's works like brewing a cup of tea by just tossing the leaves into the water. The only downside to this design is that you can't leave in the infuser basket/strainer and pour the tea without some leaves falling into the cup, though they don't recommend doing it this way anyway. Also, many people prefer to remove the basket so their tea won't get too strong when you reach the end so it's a moot point. I'm happy with my purchase. ... Read more

I must say I really like this book also.I had never made my own scones before (I usually buy them from Starbucks). But this book along with the scone pan made it so easy and less expensive! 5-0 out of 5 stars Good for Cappuccino
If someone I know is just starting out or is undecided about a choice for a formal china pattern, I might recommend BIA Cordon Bleu. It is an inexpensive open stock white porcelain pattern, which could be used as extras for entertaining later on.

So if you are ordering BIA dinnerware, I would recommend buying a set of dinner plates, a set of salad plates, and a set of these cups and saucers, all of which come in service for four. You might also like to add 12-Inch platters for entrées or entrée salads. If you add a set of soup/cereal bowls, then you have a twenty-piece set for four, or 4 five-piece place settings.

You might want to mix-and-match the white porcelain dinnerware with Willow Blue open-stock dinnerware. These classic white cups and saucers would be perfect for cappuccino, too. ... Read more
