this thing stinks
After 6 bottles and 3 people trying we still can't get this gadget to perform. Frankly I am amazed that anyone would review this positively, the directions are horrible and we resorted to our old 25 cent cork screw which opened fine. I bought this as a gift for my husband and it is going in the trash

Excellent tool!
I bought this corkscrew last year after having some mishaps with my old double wing style corkscrew. All the reviews that talk about how easy it is to use are RIGHT on the money! I love it and recommend it highly! It is a breeze to use and I love how simple it is to remove the cork once the bottle is open. I got it for a low price but would happily have paid more knowing what I know now!

I hate gadgets smarter than me!
And this is one of them - I just can't figure it out.I've gotten corks partially out, chewed a couple up, stuffed one down inside the bollle, sent a bottle skittering across the table, stabbed my finger and, yes, I did get one cork out like magic.I just can't remember how I did it.

Like swimming in a field of flowers
First off, this little ceramic pot is a great bargain for ten dollars. It comes with a gauze bag stuffed with fragrant lavender bath salts, a quaint little wooden scoop attached to the crock with a chiffon-esque ribbon, and did I mention it smells great? Drop two scoops of the purple salts, and you're set. I bought it for my mother, and now we have to fight to get her out of the tub. Myself also. But, be careful. The crock is ceramic, so it WILL break if it falls from an elevated height. And when you deplete your salt cache, you can either full it back with the salts, or use it as a decorative vase.
Remember, keep away from heights.
Buy this product if you like fragrant bargains.

I must say I was skeptical when I saw the price I was getting this for, but this is a great product.It is FULL of salts and smells and looks just beautiful!You can tell that the product - especially the crock is quality made.Full price would seem a bit much as it is only approx. 8" tall and about 5" wide; but on sale it is a steal!!!!

Good for the price
First of all, do read the editorial review carefully. The decanter is not supposed to be made of glass. On the other hand, it does "look like glass, sounds like glass." Pouring is fairly simple and non-messy, but I believe a bevelled/thinner edge could make it better. Overall, it is adequate as a casual decanter.

Great for some people, but not for my tastes.
I'm very picky about my coffee.I'm the type who buys whole beans from a local coffee roaster in small batches and know when the roasting dates are.I buy just enough to last me 2 weeks and no more.I do this to keep my stock fresh.I bring the coffee home and grind it myself -just before brewing- in a coffee MILL, not in those cheap blade grinder.I also use fresh reverse-osmosis-filtered (not tap or bottled) water to bring out the full flavor of the coffee.After all this work, I know I must use the best coffee maker.After using paper filters for so many years, I thought I try the French Press because one of my Seattle friends (w/Starbucks connections) told me that's the TRUE way to make coffee.I even watched a Starbucks video where the coffee expert used the French Press to make the coffee.So, I thought, "Hey, I gotta get myself this Bodum 8-cup French Press!"After using it for several months, I switched back to using paper filters.Why?Because I didn't like the extra residue in my coffee.I think it actually ruined the coffee than enhance it.Yes, I tried different grinds (extra fine to extra coarse) and even varied the brew time.Still, I preferred the clean taste that paper filters gave me.Yes, the plastic coffee catcher thing this comes with is more of a gimmick... I took it off and kept it off the whole time I used this coffee maker.It doesn't really work that well...instead, it just adds one more thing to clean at the end... another hassle.Another thing I hate is the fragile glass flask.I already broke it once while cleaning it only after a month of owning it.I had to go buy a replacement that costed almost half the original price of a brand new unit.Now that I've switched back to paper filters, this thing just sits on the counter...a pretty-looking kitchen ornament and something to impress the guests with I guess.It's a matter of taste... if you're the type who like really strong coffee and don't mind the residue, then this is for you.If you're the type who like stout beer and ales with the residue floating around, then you'll like this.When I mean residue, I don't mean big chunks of coffee beans floating around or anything nasty.It's more like the difference between apple juice versus apple cider (murky).My Starbucks friend who loves extra extra dark strong coffee swears by this thing.He's the kind who thinks that coffee grown in Vietnam is the best coffee... the strongest coffee sold in America is too weak for him.Go figure.

It works, and the coffee catcher is a godsend
Other reviewers have complained that this is advertised as 8-cup but is actually 4-cup. The "cups" specified are 4oz coffee cups, not 8oz US measuring cups. If you do 30 seconds research at the manufacturers web site, you can confirm this. For me, this is not a problem, as it was exactly as expected: 5/5.

I had some problems with the item shipping, but this was the fault of the delivery firm rather than the vendor, and the vendor was prompt, courteous and helpful in dealing with those issues. Again 5/5.

The coffee catcher is a great bonus. It makes cleanup about 10 times easier. No more scooping out gunk with a spoon, just tip the basket into a paper towel. There are two slight problems. First: On the manufacturers website, it's listed as "Free". This ought to mean that Amazon doesn't charge any extra for it. This is not the case. I forget how much extra I paid, but it may have been near five dollars. Second: Unclipping the basket from the bottom of the plunger is done in a non-obvious way, and it took me a good couple of minutes fiddling to figure out how to do it without sending coffee grounds flying across the room, including reading the enclosed instruction leaflet (which does not detail the procedure). Over-all 4/5 for the catcher.

The mesh on the plunger isn't very fine. Using coarse-ground coffee as recommended, you don't get any actual grounds in your cup, but an the filter lets through an awful lot of the fine powdery residue that forms a little puddle of gunk at the bottom of the cup. 4/5 for the filter.

As to the actual quality of the brew? Well, in my opinion that's more conditioned by how much care you take in selecting and storing your coffee beans, and even more so how much care you take in the actual preparation. The press does not noticably detract from a decent brew in any way, as long as you're savvy enough to neither freeze nor boil at any point. 5/5

Best teapot I've ever owned
I've always known that tea leaves need space to expand so that you get the most flavor out of them. I used to use those constrictive tea balls. Later, I just put the tea directly into my cup and then spooned out as much of it as I could before drinking. I picked up some better quality tea leaves and wanted to get the most out of them with a real teapot so I searched around and I'm so glad I discovered this teapot. It makes brewing tea so much simpler and looks quite attractive. (I didn't want a more "traditional" porcelain type teapot; this is a nice modern update to that model).

Someone mentioned that it didn't make 32 ounces. Well, I never actually measured it but it's not really an issue for me because I only pour in enough water to make enough tea for my 20 ounce mug (which I've worked out to pouring the water just to the bottom edge of the "Bodum" logo on the glass). Unless you're planning on making more than four 8oz cups of tea at a time, you shouldn't have any problems with the capacity of this teapot. If you plan on making more than that, you should look for a larger teapot!

The strainer works quite well and keeps in most of tea. A little bit of the "dust" makes it through, but it settles to the bottom and won't get into your cup if you pour slowly and steadily. The strainer is designed quite well, It's basically a half-dome basket with a metal rod/handle across the top to make it easy to pick up. It's very easy to scoop the tea out after you're done with it. I had no problems pouring tea out with the strainer inside, it works just as well as when the strainer is removed. Since the "spout" doesn't protrude that much, it works best to pour slowly. I usually just lift the lid a bit before pouring. They probably could have extended the spout just a little bit more for better pouring, but that would probably detract from the aesthetics.

The teapot and strainer are easy to clean with a quick rinse.
And it looks nice sitting on the kitchen countertop.

UPDATE: After using this for a while, I have noticed a tendency for rusting if I don't wipe the outside dry after washing. It's because the glass sits inside the metal frame outside, and water can get stuck between the glass and metal. I don't have rust on mine because I make sure to wipe it after every wash, or leave it upsidedown. It might become a problem if you leave it right-side-up after washing because the water will drip onto the metal frame. Despite this, I'm still pretty happy with the teapot.A little care during washing will keep it lasting a long time.

Very nice design
Turns out that the body is made of glass and except for the metal frame, everything else is plastic. It says so on the box. Also, it says it makes 32 ounces, but I was only able to pour in about 25 ounces of water. The design is very attractive and practical. The main reason I bought this was because cleaning is very easy. The infuser is basically a strainer that fits nicely into the body. This way it's works like brewing a cup of tea by just tossing the leaves into the water. The only downside to this design is that you can't leave in the infuser basket/strainer and pour the tea without some leaves falling into the cup, though they don't recommend doing it this way anyway.Also, many people prefer to remove the basket so their tea won't get too strong when you reach the end so it's a moot point. SoHo is So-So
An attractive set, but very thin, EASILY breakable glass. I'm down to 5 glasses & no bowl. Also, the glasses are irregular-they're all different sizes. bleh.

Hazard
The set is nice to look at and probably fun to use, but I probably won't ever use it. Who want's thin glass at a party where people may (will probably) get drunk? The glass of the container is really thin. At first I thought, oh well, I can just use the container as a vase (it is a nice shape for one) but the glass is so thin at the top I don't really want to mess with it sober either.

Nice Gift
The boxes in this tower are not the usual gift boxes that most of these towers contain. They are made of a thick paperboard and finished with a shiny lacqeur. They are definitely designed to be used for anything once emptied of their treats. The vanilla milk caramels are soft and buttery tasting, very yummy. My only caveat is that I wished there were more than the one Tiramisu and the two Baronie Belgian chocolates (chocolate crunch and cherry truffle), and less of the hard candy. I was not wowed over by the spice cookies either, I would have preferred biscotti or amaretto, spice cookies and hard candy are a dime-a-dozen. The macadamia-nut popcorn reminds me of Screaming Yellow Zonkers, yellow glazed with pieces of roasted macadamias. Yummy! While a pretty nice gift overall, I would not have paid original price for it. Buy it on sale. It will keep for Valentines and birthdays, everything is securely wrapped and the overall tower is in a clear cellophane bag topped with a pretty bow.

I cant figure out how to to complete the one with the pegs sticking out the side i am close but i cant figure out where to put the one with one peg and i cant get the last two peg one in. Could someone plz tell me how it is done?

think you got patience?
There are 4 brain teasers in this box. They go from easy to difficult. The main cause of difficulty is that you have to be able to hold the pieces together while assembling them and several are involved. I find a couple of stretchy rubber bands help. Very good for teaching patience to 8-15 year olds. The directions are included and once you realize how to read them, are very clear. As with other reviewers, I found they do not hold together well after a couple of sessions.

Good Workout For Your Logical Mind
This is an excellent toy...

The other reviewer said he/she tried to memorize the steps when the puzzles were taken apart.I, on the other hand, don't want to know how they are taken apart.I like to logically analyze each piece and put them back together.I find that works for me, and usually I can put the puzzles together fairly quickly.

I agree that the wood is soft, but I don't have any problem with the puzzles like the other reviewer.My husband, on the other hand, used the memorization method and brute force, and most of the time he couldn't put the puzzles back together.He used school glue to fix the chipping.But overall, if you take care of it, use more of your brain, less strength, the pieces fit beautifully together.

There is a lot of fun for toys this cheap, and it is definitely a good workout for your mind.Remember to analyze, analyze, analyze and no cheating.After all, it is the process that is rewarding, not the destination. ... Read more

Suits the audience
Lets face it, wine drinkers tend to be a bit on the snobby side (well, as long as they aren't NightTrain drinkers).Many wine-stoppers are just too darn plasticy for such a market.These, on the other hand, are very very nice.These are esthetically appealing as well as function.The wood is beautiful, and they have a very nice hefty feel.Makes a great gift!
