    Editorial Review

For spreading olive oil evenly on bruschetta, focaccia, and grilled or roasted vegetables, and for spraying muffin and cake pans with vegetable oil, this dispenser is a nifty tool. A plastic cap underneath the sprayer's top twists off so the sprayer can be half-filled (1/3 cup) with oil. Inside the top is a plastic tube that fits over the spray nozzle. Push the top up and down to pump air pressure into the canister. Then spray for 10 seconds and pump up again. It's simple, ingenious, and practical. With its cap on, the sprayer stands just 7-5/8 inches high, so it tucks away easily on any countertop. Made of satin-finish aluminum with a black-band accent, it's sleek as well as utilitarian. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome once you know the tricks
Works great, especially with olive oil, but there are a couple of tricks to getting the most out of it. First, fill it only half way. Second, if you twist the top after each use to release the pressure you can avoid clogging problems. My first one lasted only a year or so because I had not learned that 'releasing the pressure' trick and the nozzle got irreparably clogged. Even hot soapy water didn't fix the problem. A chef friend of mine told me how to avoid the trouble. Since then, the replacement has been going strong for over two years now. Nice even spray with no clogging. Great gadget. I use it all the time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Misto Oil Sprayer
I had my spayer for several years and enjoyed it immensly until the cap split. In reseaching I found this to be a commom problem for many useers. Further research showed Misto had changed the material in the cap due to this issue. Since mine had been bought at the Lechter close out sale i figured it was one of the older models. Not really expecting anything, I researched and found the Misto service address back east and sent them a letter asking how to get a replacement cap. Expecting to be told it was going to cost $12 or more to get one (S & H) I was pleasantly surprised when many weeks later I received a replacement cap in the mail. No letter, note or anthing. Some Customer Service Dept. person just dropped one in a packing envelope and mailed it to me. So Misto is #1 in service for me and my Misto sprayer is happily spraying away again.

It does spayer best if you don't release the pressure between uses and just give it one or two pumps when you use it. It helped me to get a better spay when I re-read the directions. I never run out of pan spay with my Misto.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it looks
Mine worked fine for a few weeks. Then started squirting and leaking. Even soapy water cleaning seems temporary. I use it for vegetable oil though. I could live with this but scary is that the oil turns rancid fast. This is due to exposure to air during pumping. Cans use propellants and these vapors are lighter than air. Plus they're almost intert. So they work. Solution: Smell the oil in Misto every couple of weeks. You don't want to feed rancid stuff to your families. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

In or out of context, George Jones's "comeback" album of 1980 is an unassailable classic of modern country music. Since 1975, Jones's solo career had been in a tailspin, taking him to the Top 10 only twice in four years, so that by late 1979, he had soused and doped his body from 150 to 100 pounds. He might have died, were it not for the musical and commercial resurrection of I Am What I Am. Produced by Billy Sherrill, the sound is stunningly advanced, full of complex, layered guitar tones, exquisitely placed harmonies, and an elegant melding of lyrical spaciousness and hard honky-tonk. Opening with perhaps the greatest country single ever, "He Stopped Loving Her Today," Jones lends both a regal authority and a humble sorrow to lyric after lyric, all uniformly graceful and stately. The only weak track is "His Lovin' Her Is Gettin' in My Way," an anticipation of the cloying bounce of Hot Country, though even that slight number is redeemed by Jones's underrated comic gifts. This 2000 reissue includes a wise essay by Glenn Gass, a personal reflection by the Possum himself, and four previously unreleased cuts, all of which are as memorable as the haunting, original recordings themselves. Essential doesn't begin to describe the treasures you'll find here. --Roy Kasten ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Jones' best album
This album, released in 1980, marked the return of George Jones. At least artistically. The album became one of his biggest and most successful. Jones gives a good performance throughout that is restrained, but strong. The album spawned three big hits. "He Stopped Loving Her Today", which in my opinion is a great country song and one of his best and most moving hits. "I'm Not Ready Yet" and "If Drinkin' Don't Kill Me (Her Memory Will)" were the other hits from teh album. The remaining tracks are exceptionally strong, without a weak track in the bunch. The songs are simple, direct, and emotionally powerful, even with the smooth production. This album is the sound of George Jones at his peak and it's the highlight of his later years. The album also features 4 bonus tracks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dark days for George but his best album
At the time George recorded this album, he was going through a particularly bad time personally, but as sometimes happens in such case, it seemed to inspire him musically.

The set opens with He stopped loving her today, one of George???s most famous songs, about a man who loved a woman until he died even though she had long since left him ??? but she came to the funeral. This song sets the tone of much of the album, as you can sense from the song titles ??? the next three songs are I???ve aged twenty years in five, Brother to the blues and If drinking don???t kill me her memory will.

I???m not ready yet, a song written by the great storyteller Tom T Hall, is another classic in the same vein. I don???t think of Tom T Hall as a likely source of songs for George ??? their music is normally so different ??? but this particular song is exactly right for George.

To lighten things a little, George includes a superb solo cover of Good hearted woman, the classic Waylon and Willie outlaw song. A hard act to follow and Bone dry continue the lighter mood. The other tracks here are all wonderful including four bonus tracks recorded around the time of the main album make this CD even better value.

5-0 out of 5 stars George Jones' Come back album Came back again!!
The GREATEST country singer, made the GREATEST country album in 1980. And now re-released it is MY favorite country Album. Modern country can't touch this album. This goes back to when Country music WAS country music, the same country music George Jones sings today!! He stopped loving her today, I've aged Twenty years in five, His lovin' her is gettin' in my way, and Bone Dry are the Raw testimony of George Jones. Though he may not have written all the songs on the album, He may as well have. Because he has been through it, he lived every word in every song!! GEORGE JONES is REAL COUNTRY!! ... Read more

One of the first books issued to midshipmen at Kings Point (www.usmma.edu), the American Merchant Seaman's Manual is a whirlwind tour of everything the new mariner should know before going to sea.It introduces the fundamentals of navigation, ship handeling, deck seamanship, cargo handeling, safety of life at sea, and countless other important subjects. The serious mariner will quickly graduate to more detailed navigation and seamanship texts, but the American Merchant Seaman's Manual remains an important ready reference.I can offer no higher praise than this:Of the leangthly reading list for sea duty, this is one of the few books that midshipman actually reference in their sea projects. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story
J.M. Barrie, the author of the wonderful Peter Pan stories, wrote this play in 1917, and it clearly shows a much freer tone than those plays that I have read that were written during the previous Victorian era. In this play, a group of people, strangers for the most part, are invited to an unusual midsummer stay. Each person present has a secret regret, a path that they wished that they had taken. When, on Midsummer's Eve, a magical forest appears, each enters and get a chance to see the people they might have been had they taken that other path.

This "tragicomedy" is quite a wonderful story. I first picked it up with some trepidation, as some plays are rather too bare boned. However, Mr. Barrie included many notes and sidebars that make this play read just as easily as any prose story. It has quite an interesting lesson, and yet is very entertaining. I hope that I am able to find this play being performed somewhere, as I certainly enjoyed reading it. I think that you will enjoy reading it, too. ... Read more

Song titles: 1. (I Don't Want to Have) Easy Listening Nightmares 2. Prelude to Alice the Goon 3. (untitled track)

I actually have the 12" version so I've never heard the untitled track, but the first two (plus Stapleton's art etched into the b-side of the vinyl) are enough to make this release worth it. The first song is kind of 'poppy' and somewhat reminiscant of "The Sylvia and Babs Hi-Thigh Companion." The second track is slower and more dreamlike, with whispering voices and other bizarre Nurse With Wound trademarks. This is an interesting re-release that no NWW fan should be without.

5-0 out of 5 stars Engrossing.
When I first saw the book, I was transfixed. I must have spent quite a number of hours going through the pages, standing up, the world dissolving around me. My particular favorite is one picture of Gary Oldman lying in a coffin. It captured him perfectly. I don't know much about photography, but the beauty of his works is that it can be understood and loved by anyone - there is a human association within every shot. For a while I was reluctant to buy it - the price was a bit too much for me, but I kept on returning to the bookstore to see it, taking a half an hour bus ride each time at the other side of the city. I grew restless when I didn't take the ritual visit. Eventually I did get it - and I finally feel complete. He captured perfection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive value
Not much to pay for a book that is this outstanding. The photographs themselves are really beautifully reproduced, very high quality printing supporting how good the photos themselves are. Fascinating layout also. Great photos. This is one of those books that you keep going back to and still enjoy. You will be happy that you got this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Some good here and some total nonsence
Comparing people to gorillas is absolutely misleading.
I do eat lots of greens because I like them and I know the immense benefits to my health.
I would have to be a semi-gorilla already benching at least 1500 lb.

I love the idea of raw and organic lifestyle for various reasons, one of which is the enormous pressure by big "food" corporations so they can increase their profits. In the US, predominantly, the stuff that people are forced to buy and brainwashed into it is abominable to say the least.
So here, the author is doing a good job.

Most of the population loves to spend money on cancer research programs, which is totally idiotic on the scale, which is currently running in the US and elsewhere.
It looks good on a tax statement and sounds great in dinner parties...however, does it help to cure it?
No, absolutely not. Billions are spent on unnecessary overhead to conduct such research
Interestingly enough, the cancer stats are the highest ever.
With the billions, I would assume that there will be no cancer.

Cancer comes predominantly from the chemicals in the food most people eat and related issues.
That leads me back to the 2 stars I gave the book...at least it's promoting the right food.

In terms of bodybuilding, there is no way ever that a raw food person will match the steroid guys. Use some common sense here, please.

The interesting thing is though that as far as nutritional values of raw diet go, they are higher and better than cooked food, however once on that diet, people tend to lose weight.

I called a guru on raw diet in California to ask this question but got his " assistant" telling me that they will charge me 300 per hour for a consultation.

I think the answer is not eating grass like buffalos but figure out the healthiest possible diet for an individual needs.
Yes I want a muscle tone and be strong and fit without drinking those amazing powder proteins and fart 24/7.
Raw food could be a nice complement in the attempt of getting huge like a gorilla.

2-0 out of 5 stars For veterans of the weights, naw...
I have read Steve Arlin's "Raw Power" two or three times now.As a struggling "rawist" I find some parts to be helpful, and even inspirational.Other parts I find to be a bit self-aggrandizing, and not to functional.

Bottom line, if you are new to Raw Foodism, and want to lift weights, then-aside from the workouts being way to long- read it and get some ideas.I would suggest other works for a better grasp of weight lifting in, and of itself.

If you are a weight lifting veteran, and have been around the gym awhile, as so many have already stated, you won't be too impressed. For you stick with what you are doing, and phase in the raw food diet as you go.

2-0 out of 5 stars I love the fruit arm on the cover but...
I don't love the inside of this book as much.
I read this book a long time ago and I agree with positive thinking and eating raw foods in order to help build healthy muscles and gain more stamina.
But, this book didn't offer me any new information or really inspire me to build more strength or more muscle.
It is an easy read, but there are better raw food books and much better body-building books out there. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I expected
This book is good for beginners, but I've already tried EVERYTHING Dr. Condrell said before ever buying this book (WITHOUT reading it in a book, or magazine, or getting advice from my pediatrician), and it STILL doesn't work!I guess maybe I have an extra stubborn 3 year old, but nothing in his book is news to me.Was a waste of my money!

5-0 out of 5 stars My sister read it just for fun!
The greatest part about this book is how easy it is to read and how directly applicable it is.No long-winded stuffy professors. This book shows you exactaly what to do, and not do, and tells it with humor. An easy read that will make you feel much more sane!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good advice overall
This book has a lot of good information in it about how to deal with bratty behavior both at the toddler and the teen level.I didn't agree with everything in the book and I thought some of the proposed punishmentswere a bit harsh, like if a kid does not clean his room, he is grounded tohis room after school and if not finished cleaning by dinner time does notget to eat with the family. I also could have done without the sarcasm, such as the list on "How to Have a Troubled Family".But thereis a lot of good advice in the book.I especially liked "behaviorthat is rewarded will be repeated" and the analogy that dolphins in ashow don't do the tricks because they were screamed at or spanked, they doit because they were rewarded when they got it right. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Yuck!
I bought this book as a gift for a young friend. Having had my own real experience with bullies when I was young, and having learned how to deal with bullies through experience, I wanted to save my friend about 20 years and give a book with advice appropriate for whatever age you are.

Based on the first couple of pages in the "Look Inside This Book", I was impressed. When I received it, I was quickly disappointed because much of the advice was aimed saying nice or "cute" things back to the bully! For example:

    Bully: "Big nose!"
Person: "Why, yes, my nose is a bit large. How sweet of you to notice."

If I had said that to any bully when I was in school, the bully would have yelled, "HEY GUYS!" where upon he and his toadies would have surrounded me in a very tight little circle. I can see them hurling insults, pounding and shoving me and screaming with laughter as I said, "Why thank you! I was about to scratch an itch but your boot on my chest took care of it!" I would have been held in a headlock while each of them kicked my rear for compliments! Any teacher on the scene would have blamed me for not trying to at least stick up for myself, but first waiting and watching out of amazement.

The author must have very little experience with "real" bullies, because an outdated theory was used to write this book. The theory that bullies have low self-esteem has been discredited. The strategy of complimenting them to "build up their self-esteem", so they will stop being a bully, can actually backfire and invite more abuse. More importantly, instructing a victim with low self-esteem to help the bully by giving compliments sends the wrong message to the victim. Think future spousal abuse victim. Yuck! This one gets returned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Struggling Reader shows Interest!
This is a great book. This is the first book my son has actually taken enough interest in to read on his own.Now that he sees reading can be useful to him, he is reading to learn.

2-0 out of 5 stars Best Approach?
I'm not sure that this book supports the best way to handle bullies. The responses she suggests seem to have a somewhat "smart alec" and/or "sarcastic" tone about them. Some of the responses are just down right silly, which might result in a child getting picked on even more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!
I hate to admit this, because it's nothing against the book at all. I absolutely love this book but for the life of me I can never remember the name. I know what it's about and about when I read it so I search my library for the name each time.
The story is so entertaining and fresh. What's funny is I have read other books in this series and for some reason never knew this was one of the first in it's series. Please don't think it's a bad part on the book because it's not it's my brain.

Ellie like many women in her same situation wants to impress her family because they kind of give that attitude of I'm better than you because she's plump and single.Ellie decides her best bet is to have someone attractive and male on her arm when she visits them this time around. So she calls on Eligibility Escorts and enter one Bentley Haskell. He's a bit abrasive, but he fits the bill as far as being nice to look at and perfect to play the single girls long time beau.Bentley is a trained chef, but has taken up writing an ADULT/Graphic novel.
Once cornered with her family though Ellie makes Bentley not just her Beau but her fiancée in a very humorous moment. So as the weekend ends Ellie goes home with confidence she's gotten away with her lie and can go about her business.
Then her uncle dies and he gets one over on the family by stipulating that he is leaving Ellie and Bentley his entire fortune and castle home if they both accomplish two things in the next 6 months.Ellie's supposed to lose weight and make herself over.Bentley is supposed to write a full length book, but it has to be free of blasphemy which is going to be difficult because the book he's been writing will not do at all.
The mystery begins as people disappear and Ellie and Bentley are being targeted by a mysterious person who wants them to fail and will do anything to make sure they do.
This story is funny and fresh.I love it.
The audio version is abridged but very well read by Amanda Donohoe.I'm glad I discovered this book was part of the series I had already come to love because it's a great beginning for it.

3-0 out of 5 stars ending saves the book
I wasn't particularly impressed with this book.It was good enough to keep reading, but it wasn't until the ending (don't worry I won't say what happens) that I really started to like it in spite of myself, hense the 3 stars. The characters are generally likeable.Ellie is a little too obsessive about her weight and too self-depreciating.It starts to get annoying. The plot also seems a little thin (no pun intended).

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best
This book is so witty and well written that you will never want to put it down! The ending is also different from what you would expect! I Loved it very much and recammend it ro all. Now, don't be decieved by the cover because, you should never judge a book by it's cover. Besides the muder it also shows that if you put your mind to it you can do anything and that is what I liked about this book.
The descripitions are so well written too I found myself imaginig the rooms Ellie was designing. Now, I won't tell you everything, you must read it and tell me how you liked it! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Iggy Pop is back in all his sneering glory. Having gotten the solemn reflections on aging, morality, and lost love of 1999's Avenue B out of his system, this first postmillennial offering returns the Ig to the style of primordial days when he spat out such deconstructed tunes as "No Fun," and "I Wanna Be Your Dog." Here he proudly works his fine-edged sarcasm and formidable (if often overlooked) songwriting skills. In "Mask," he snarls "You're wearing a mask / You look better that way" before collapsing in a comic rage in which he condemns everybody in Los Angeles for "licking ass or having it licked." Never is Iggy so artistically charged as when he has a nemesis, whether it be the "Weasels"--those villains of the music business who are "rewriting rock history," and possess "an office and a chair, nice butts, and silky hair"--or the "Jerk" who has the temerity to hit on his girlfriend. It's gratifying to see that Iggy has finally decided to wrest back his thorny crown from Stooges descendants such as Queens of the Stone Age and the Melvins and pulverize them with his wit, abandon, and sheer fearlessness. --Jaan Uhelszki ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Iggy Pop - 'Beat Em Up' (Virgin)
'Beat Em Up' just might be considered to be Iggy's best effort since 1990's 'Brick By Brick'.Great 2001 release to hit the music racks. The cuts that I had a hard time getting out of my head were "Mask","L.O.S.T."(where the legend chants In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida several times),"Howl",the ass-kicking "Jerk","Death Is Certain" and "Drink New Blood".'Beat...' is Iggy's first entirely self-produced CD.His band on this disc is:Whitey Kirst-guitar,Lloyd Roberts-bass and Alex Kirst-drums.Basically,just some old-school Detroit style in-your-face bitter rock&roll.Listen closely to the Igster's descriptive lyrics and you'll know why this world really is going to hell in a hand basket.I FINALLY after 23 years got to see Iggy play live on this CD's tour and I wasn't let down one bit.I remember that when I got my ticket at the door,I honestly felt like I did the day I lost my virginity.Virgin Records,no pun intended.Great disc to own a copy of.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEATS ME!!
While just living my life one day, accepting everything as it was, a package arrived containing the new Iggy Pop CD. The cover is vulgar and tasteless, the song titles detestable, and I knew this was going to be a real treat! After hours of non-stop listening (and a slight headache), it has become indisputable that the world is a very sick place, and although Iggy is one sick puppy, he underscores the shortcomings of the universe quite blatantly and eloquently - and he still rocks!

This one is fierce, hard and bottom-heavy. The lyrics are head-on and it's a shame that some are buried in the glorious noise, as each word of wisdom from the Ig is a jewel of profundity no matter how crude, cruel or sarcastic.

It's the antithesis of his last album, Avenue B on which we found a fifty-plus Iggy bitching, crooning and moaning about mid-life loneliness with an acoustic guitar. He claims it was an brutally honest album. Maybe so, but this is the real ageless Iggy - primal, manic and yelping a tirade of insults at everyone and everything that deserves to die. We all thought Instinct was his heavy metal album, but this is the real deal. There is no lack of belly-laughs either!

From the thrashing opening track `Mask' ("You're wearing a mask, you look better that way") to the closing rant `V.I.P.' Iggy virtually regurgitates upon everything that's wrong with people, the music industry, and life in general. He hurls in every direction and no one is innocent.

On `Howl' Iggy is top dog, exercising his canine cacophony. It sounds like the Stooges jamming with Metallica. `The Jerk' echoes the sentiments of Blondie's "Rip Her To Shreds" ("Aw man, you're killin'me!").

    (...)

`Go For The Throat', a squalid (perhaps autobiographical) profile of an outlaw is a bit scary in the same way Eminem's `Kim' freaked me out before I knew that it's supposed to be ironic and funny. I still don't get that other guy, but when Iggy repeats "Go for the throat, I'm f*ked up - I'm so f*cked up" you'll wonder where your children are.

`Ugliness' is absolutely beautiful, starting with a wild manic outcry and a speedy riff out of the Stooges' `I Got A Right', declaring that porno sucks, music sucks, and delivering astute corporate commentary, "They've got bald heads and toupees and they're in total f*ing control! There's also a choice assessment of America's Top 40; "Everybody has a gun to express feelings that should be expressed by a REAL musician".

In `Drink New Blood' Iggy has a self admitted "Infantile violent outburst!!!" `V.I.P' is a hilarious diatribe on beautiful people delivered in his trademark snide narrative, and an improvised "hidden" bonus track really rocks.

At last I have something new to listen to over and over for months, perhaps years until the next great album is made.

5-0 out of 5 stars Damn surprised by this gritty rocker!
I'm not as familiar of Iggy's output over the years since I've just begun to explore his music, but I must say I was blown away with the "quality of ferocity" and unabashed, on-the-spot, lyrical insight that Iggy pontificates.Unbelievable that he's 54 yrs old (im 51)...you could say for sure that he lives the life. I respect his point of view more than some post-puberty punk with no idea (yet)on what life's about, and thats why his music is important to me. Btw,there are a few slower ballads here where Iggy kinda "talks" through his killer phrasing. This allows the album to "breathe" a little but still smokes like the devil's own hot sauce.Ahhhhhhh, just right! ...
