    Editorial Review

The Krups Open Master can opener answers the prayers of those cooks who are sick of struggling with manual can openers. This can opener has a patented bladeless design that uncrimps can lids, rather than cutting them out, so it doesn't leave sharp edges to cut fingers. Also, because the opener doesn't cut into the lid of the can, the opener's blades won't get gummed up and contaminated with old food that has stuck to the cutting edge. The large handle is easy to grip, and the on-off button has raised bumps so that your thumb won't slip. --Julija Gelazis ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars very good and unique can opener
I've had my Krups Open Master a long time; I think I got it shortly after they started making them.Only recently has the motor been getting balky and the opener less efficient.I guess that's pretty good for many years of constant use.

Only two complaints: this thing works well IF the part that holds on to the can is set at exactly the right angle. This can take a little trial and error. Also, I'm left-handed, but I have to use this opener with my right hand because of its design.

I love the nice, clean edge it leaves on the can. It's impossible to cut yourself, and the cutting blade doesn't get dirty.

    Not perfect, but very good.

2-0 out of 5 stars Blade wears out FAST!
The mechanics of this can opener are terrific EXCEPT for the quality of the opening blade. It wears out in less than a year of moderate use.A replacement blade costs $23 + shipping from Krups so you have no recourse once it quits opening cans except to deposit it in a landfill.

We are on our 4th one and have finally decided to go back to the mechanical type.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great can opener, once you figure it out!
I've had this can opener for about 8 months, and I use it about 3-4 times a week for anything ranging from small cans of tuna to large (bulk) cans of stewed tomatoes. I find it very easy to use one-handed (I'm right handed and I think it was designed for us righties), and since it doesn't actually cut the can, there's no danger that the lid will cut me when I try to remove it. Occasionally, the can is warped or the top edge is bent, and the can opener will sometimes shave a little piece of metal off the can, but this always just drops off onto the counter rather than into the food, as happens with other can openers.

Other reviewers have complained that it is hard to get this can opener to latch onto cans in order to open them. That's true -- if you don't read the manual. After a little trial and error, it's not really that hard to get the machine to latch on. Still, it's not completely intuitive, which is why I gave this product 4 stars.

Overall, I love this unit -- I chose it after much research on Amazon and I haven't been disappointed. ... Read more

Wraps have become increasingly popular, and the best way to serve up the freshest, tastiest wraps is to make your own tortillas! The Santa Fe Wrap Master is remarkably simple to use, so the whole family can get involved, and a recipe booklet is included so you can be serving up fresh corn, wheat, or spinach tortillas in minutes. The oversized handle allows for easy opening and closing of the plates, and there's no need to use any oil, keeping the tortillas healthful. Once you've made tortillas, you can also use the Wrap Master to make quick quesadillas. To save the tortillas for later, wrap them in plastic and refrigerate for up to three days. 1-0 out of 5 stars Pass this one by...
If you are serious about making tortillas and flatbread at home, pass right on by the Santa Fe Wrap Master Tortilla Maker.

I purchased one none months ago and it is now trashed - the plastic handle used to raise the top heating surface cracked in half. The leverage-force placed on this heat-resistant plastic handle could not not withstand repeated use. I don't think this was considered in it's design. I used it about a dozen times in nine months to make between 16 & 32 tortillas per batch.

The press does not evenly cook the tortilla. The hinged side of the iron was always underdone while the handle side got hard and crisp.

The quality of the press was poor - producing an uneven thickness in the tortilla. Typically, the hinged side produced a thinner bread than the handle side.

I ended up using the maker as a press/steamer, finishing each tortilla off in a hot cast iron skillet.

The warranty was only 90 days, so dealing with the manufacturer was not worth the effort - and at the price, having it repaired wasn't worth it either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Santa Fe TM2TBR Wrap Master Tortilla Maker, Red by Santa Fe.
Help!I just love my Tortilla Maker by Santa Fe, however, I don't seem to have any instructions or booklet that may have been with the Tortilla Maker.Could you possibly send me what came with the Tortilla Maker.I purchased it at a Base Exchange and they don't h ave anymore and someone must have removed the instructions. It's useless without instructions.I'm anxious to use it.I need a receipe to make the Tortillas.Thank You, Tricia

4-0 out of 5 stars Uneven thickness
I like everything about this except that the hinge does not allow for much thickness and the quesadilla will be thicker and more cooked at the back than at the front.I does brown the tortilla to a nice crispness and cooks in 4 minutes as advertised. We have used it a lot as a great way to use leftovers. ... Editorial Review

Devoted tea drinkers are as regimented about their tea preparation as the most wired cappuccino drinkers. This attractive teapot helps even those who follow a strictly scientific method to simplify the tea-making process: Thanks to a built-in tea caddy, you can use loose tea leaves, allowing precise adjustment of a tea's strength without the messy straining process. When preparing a strong tea, remember not to fill the caddy to capacity as tea leaves expand when steeping. The caddy has an attached arm for lowering it into the water for brewing; just lifted the caddy out when the tea has reached the desired strength. The 7-cup teapot is made of heat-resistant glass. A tip from traditional tea drinkers: Always warm the pot with hot water before brewing your tea. --Laura Cuthbert ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars POT, not KETTLE, Ignore the "No Stars" review!
The person who gave the "No Stars" review obviously misunderstood the funadamental nature of this product (i.e., was clueless.)It would burn, of course, if you put it on the stove. Most other teapots would likewise burn, crack, or otherwise be severely damaged if you placed them on the stove to heat water.TEAPOTS DO NO GO ON THE STOVE!Tea kettles go on the stove.A sane person pours water from a kettle into a teapot to make one's tea.(Hello...?)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Super Teapot!
I loved this teapot. My husband bought it for me and it broke before our move.I thought that I'd never find it again. However he found it for me here on Amazon.com as a surprise for Christmas!I like it because I can use loose tea and tea bags in the tea caddy. My tea comes out perfect everytime too. I can also get several servings out of each pot. It's very easy to use and clean up is rather quick.I'd recommend this for yourself or as a gift!

    Master Recipes
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars
    Hardcover (01 April, 1998)
    list price: $29.95
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

In 1987, Stephen Schmidt wrote the first edition of Master Recipes, a compendium of more than 1,000 recipes for favorite American dishes. It also included crème brûlée and some other tempting, less American detours. Contributing to the new Joy of Cooking has raised Schmidt's profile, and Master Recipes remains one of the best, most comprehensive teaching cookbooks ever written. Drawing on his expertise as an instructor, in this second edition of Master Recipes, Schmidt focuses on providing fundamental culinary knowledge. Each Master Recipe is used to teach the basics that apply to many other, similar recipes. Thus, once you can make Old-Fashioned Chicken Stew with Vegetables and Cream Gravy, you are equipped to also toss off a curried stew, pot pie, stew with dumplings, Chicken à la King or Tetrazzini, and New England Boiled Dinner made with cooked beef.

Schmidt writes clearly, using a very specific format. Every Master Recipe is followed by variations that refer liberally to it. This involves some flipping back and forth while in the kitchen, but strongly makes the point of similarity among families of dishes. Sketches illustrate the key techniques and processes.

In this updated version of Master Recipes, Schmidt lowers recommended cooking temperatures for veal and pork, accommodating current preferences while remaining within safety limits. The muffin recipes are lightened, crème brûlée is made richer, and gingerbread made more tender than in the original edition. He also uses a food processor for making the chocolate glaze to use on cakes and as a wickedly intense sauce. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great all-around cookbook with vast scope
Of the dozens of cookbooks I use, this is the one that I continually return to, after owning it for over 10 years. Its recipes extend to all aspects of the meal, from salads and soup to wonderful desserts, and cover many different techniques. Its real strength is in the approach: solid, well-tested, basic master recipes are presented, followed by a range of variations to them.We end up knowing how, for example, to prepare 32 kinds of cream soup, and a dozen kinds of quiche. The author alerts the cook to pitfalls and how to avoid them, as well as giving advise on how to rescue the situation when things go wrong. For cooks at all levels. My favorite cookbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Book for Beginner or Advanced Cooks
Cooking has been my hobby since I was 8-years old.I own (and use) over 35 different cookbooks, all of which are specialty books by cuisine or food category.A compulsive recipe clipper, I really needed a basic cookbook for times when recipes seemed incorrect (especially those from the LosAngeles Times Food Section!).This is it.Clear, concise and wellorganized.A beginner could teach herself how to cook using just thisbook, yet an advanced chef would find it helpful when brushing up on"rusty" techniques or trying something new to him/her.

It'sup-to-date but not one of those horrid "take one box of cake mix"type of books.Loads of practical info -- I especially like the weight& measurement conversion charts inside the front and back covers, whichcome in handy when you're doubling or splitting a recipe or translatingforeign measurements.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Longtime Kitchen Companion
As a long time cook, I discovered this book about five years ago.Now I use the master recipes for almost everything I make. The recipes are well explained, the procedures tried and true and they all work wonderfully.Having experimented with many souffle recipes over the years, I tried themaster recipe contained here.It produces a consistently perfect souffle -the only one I use.

I have learned many techniques from this book andwith a bookshelf full of recipe books - this is the first one I reach forreference. ... Read more

    All-Clad Master Chef 2 20-Quart Stockpot

    Editorial Review

The second generation of All-Clad's Master Chef line (MC2), this cookware combines brushed aluminum with stainless-steel accents for a contemporary look. Like All-Clad's other renowned cookware collections, Master Chef provides serious and professional cooks with all the virtues that make All-Clad's worldwide reputation unsurpassed. Key to its high performance is a three-ply, bonded construction. Sandwiched between the brushed aluminum exterior and an 18/10 stainless-steel interior lies a thick core of pure aluminum that spreads heat evenly across the bottoms of pots and pans and all the way up the sides. The interior is highly polished so it's stick- as well as corrosion-resistant. Handles, rivets, and tight-fitting lids are all gleaming stainless steel.

This professional-size 20-quart stockpot illustrates the Master Chef line's stylish yet practical design. Though not classically tall and narrow, it simmers soups and stocks and accommodates enough ragu Bolognese to feed the neighborhood. It's also ideal for poaching several chickens or braising lamb shanks under its polished lid. Because the aluminum core extends up the sides, foods cook uniformly, even though the pot is 9-1/2 inches deep (13-1/2 inches in diameter). And because the interior is nonreactive, tomatoes and other acidic foods won't taste metallic. Its lid and stay-cool loop handles are riveted for strength and won't be harmed by an oven's highest heat. A rolled edge facilitates dripless pouring. Master Chef cookware carries a lifetime warranty against defects and should be hand washed. --Fred Brack ... Read more

A gorgeous piece of workmanship and powerful to boot, the Breville Classic Blend Master makes blending sauces, smoothies, drinks, and soups a pleasurable snap. The unit starts with an incredibly sturdy base combining a 580-watt commercial-strength motor and gleaming metal die-cast housing. The 6-way blade system, patented by Breville, is smartly engineered to work with the upward vortex of the pitcher for optimal mixing and consistency. Made from sturdy thick glass with a broad glass handle, the pitcher holds 48 ounces (1.4 liters) and is clearly marked with both metric and imperial measurements. One of the best parts of Breville’s construction is the way the pitcher attaches without screwing on--just nestle it into four slots in the base, and it’s ready to go. A tight-fitting lid prevents splashes, while the removable inner lid allows for mid-blending additions. Leak-proof and handsome, the pitcher’s rubber-rimmed chrome base adds easy stability and makes it suitable for the table. Power settings include three distinct levels--with one specifically designed for ice--and a pulsing function. Perhaps on future versions, the power switch will be upgraded to metal, but its current plastic structure is sturdy enough. Outfitted with raised non-skid feet, the unit also comes with a one-year warranty and Breville’s signature safety plug, which is easy to insert and remove from sockets.--Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well, I figured I owed you guys.
I just wanted to add a review because I thought it was the least I could do considering other reviewers helped me make an educated choice.Early this year I was on the search for a blender and had come across many brands.I almost bought a stainless steel junkster at target, but luckily for me the item was out of stock.I went online and read dismal reviews about the said blender. It got me on the search and I finally narrowed my search down to this blender and I've never been so happy.I've blended walnuts, ice, smoothies galore, and am eager to try new recipes.I even got a great price through amazon rather then another online store that was charging me 15 to twenty bucks more.I got a steal for 69 bucks.Hopefully, it is cheaper now, but I'm not sure.Thank you to the reviewers before me.Sorry, I didn't get technical or anything 'cause I just wanted to praise the item.Try to eat as much fruits and vegetables as possible.Good health comes from a varied diet with nutrient rich organic love.Peace at my fellow consumers.Get outside once and while and stop playing Halo 2.Peace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow..
Now, I already own the Breville's "Juice Fountain Plus" So when I wanted a blender I looked for one of there items. I had high expectations for this blender since its better then there "Moda Bar Blender" With a larger cup size and a stronger motor. With the one year motor warranty I said "What's there to lose?" and I didn't lose anything, this blender was everything they said it would be and better. I work out a lot and regular protein shakes stick to the glass and it's alright to drink. With this bad boy I throw some strawberries with bananas and milk, then top it off with a scoop of protein powder and BAM I have a perfect protein shake and it makes 5 cups of it. Also with the 6 blades it takes 10 seconds for anything in this blender. Ice is done in seconds and on top of all that it's so easy to use/clean. Hot water and some dish soap and blend it, it tells you to do it in the manual and it works! I would recommend with multi-purpose blender to anyone and with the 1-year warranty you can't go wrong with this hot item and it doesn't hurt the wallet that much either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent blender for the price
I love this blender. Granted, I have not owned a decent blender before (all previous blenders have been plastic cheap ones), but my expectations were far exceeded with this blender.

It is very heavy-duty, and I like the simplicity of the controls.Who needs 25 speeds on a blender?

I make fruit shakes every morning, which consist of bananas, apples, grapes, frozen strawberries, kiwi, and soy milk.I fill it up most of the way, put the lid on, and flip the switch.I can then walk away and come back a minute later to a very well-blended shake.

I have never had to stir items, shake the blender, or remove air pockets with this blender.I have not tried any iced drinks in this blender, so I can't say how it does with ice.But judging from what I have blended in it, I don't think it would have any problems making margaritas. :) ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The worst hot air popper I have ever owned
My kitchen became a war zone when I tried to use my new Toastmaster hot air popcorn popper.Kernals shot out of the popper as if someone was shooting an automatic weapon.I had to duck to avoid being hit by flying unpopped kernals that went everywhere, my kitchen was a mess. The kernals that did pop were less than a handful and they were rubbery in texture. It was pretty funny until I returned the popper for a new one, thinking mine was just defective, however, the second one did the same thing.I through with Toastmaster Hot Air Popcorn Poppers.Good Luck! (:

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Air Popper Ever
I'm an air-popcorn popper fanatic, having grown up with it, and I eat it regurally. When my West Bend Poppery II burned out (which, by the way, was cheap AND effective - very few unpopped pieces), I bought the toastmaster (there aren't a lot of choices at local stores).Well, it is horrible - popcorn flies everywhere, and there are probably more unpopped kernals than popped ones. What a waste.Definitely don't go with this one.I've just ordered a Presto 04821 Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Corn Popper and I hear it will be better.I'm hoping!

1-0 out of 5 stars No! No! No!BAD popper!
This was to replace a popper I used for 22 years, but I can't bear to put up with the flying hot kernels of unpopped (mostly) and popped corn this thing produces. It doesn't even have the capacity to make very much, but it can't handle even a reduced amount of kernels correctly.A counter and floor scattered with popcorn is what you buy with this popper.Don't bother lifting this off the shelf, or clicking it into your cart over the internet.Cleverly disguised junk. ...
