Editorial Review

If you've ever wondered why the latest fad diet doesn't work for you... well, there are lots of reasons, mostly the fact that it's a fad diet. But it could also be that you're the wrong blood type for the kinds of foods the diet recommends. Peter D'Adamo makes a persuasive argument that your blood type is an evolutionary marker that tells you which foods you'll process best, and which will be useless calories. He covers the entire range for each of the four blood types, from entrées to condiments and seasonings, and also makes type-specific exercise and lifestyle recommendations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Author explained 'discrepancies' between books on his site
I was in agreement with many of the other people here in that I did not know which 'version' to believe regarding specific foods to avoid versus those deemed beneficial by the author. I noticed in this version cucumber is to be avoided ('acts as a poison' according to the author) and in one of his other books it is 'highly beneficial'. I didn't know which lists were accurate, but I really like the idea of his theory, even though I am a Christian and do not believe in evolution over millions of years (something the author seems to agree with, but I'm still not sure). Also, he speaks of ketosis, which is something that the Atkins diet is associated with (the reason it 'works' at least at first), and remaining in that state of ketosis has been said by many to be dangerous. I have tiny doubts but I really want to believe this blood-type diet stuff could help me feel better!

Apparently a great deal has to do with whether you are a 'secretor' or a 'non-secretor'.

5-0 out of 5 stars My experiences as a "Type O"
"Eat Right 4 Your Type" by Peter J. D'Adamo is an excellent diet and health reference book.I can tell you from my own personal experiences, what is said in this book about people with type O blood is very true for me.My interest in this book was sparked during a conversation with a massage therapist a few years ago when I mentioned eating potatoes makes me have joint pain, and she immediately inquired if my blood type was O and told me about this book.I bought my copy soon after the conversation and was intrigued by the whole thing ... especially the section about type O, my blood type.Several years after having had food allergy testing, it was very amazing to me the type O diet listed in the book was very similar to what I was told I should and should not eat according to my body's tolerance of foods!Another personal experience I can tell you is this book mentions type O people tend to have low thyroid function, and now at the age of 47, two years ago I was diagnosed hypothyroid by my many symptoms!I am one of those people who when I eat the Atkins way, I easily lose weight, therefore I also think it is very interesting that this book says type O people thrive better on a diet that includes red meat.

I have a friend who is type A who has read this book and told me eating for his blood type has been beneficial for him too.He said after having read that type A people should not eat much chicken, he then thought about how his weight gain had correlated with his trying to eat healthier and eating chicken instead of beef. Now he eats chicken much less often and has effortlessly gotten back to his appropriate weight again.

Having gone to see exercise physiologist Teresa Tapp when she came to Houston last year, and now owning some of her seminars on VHS and DVD, I would also like to add that she mentions she worked with Peter D'Adamo's father who initiated these theories about blood type and diet, and their relationship to health.Teresa Tapp says that just as we inherit our eye color and hair color from both parents, if we know what our parents' bloodtypes were, we should take theirs as well as ours into consideration when arriving at the best foods for each of us to consume.Teresa Tapp also mentions that people with type O blood need more B vitamins, and that is one reason for their dietary need for meat.

With my personal experiences, this book puts some light on the subject that we really are "fearfully and wonderfully made".

5-0 out of 5 stars This really does work... amazingly!
I was amazed when I read this book and why different blood types need to eat different types of food.

It explains how the Atkins Diet (high protein- low carb) helps a lot of people lose weight, even though it is against the typical idea of a weight loss diet!

In my case, I realized that what I liked to eat as a child (veggies, fruits, chicken) was indeed what my blood type (A) was designed for.My parents sorta got me into eating meat, which I got used to, but when I switched back to the A type diet that I naturally wanted as a child, I got more energy, and the cold/flu less!

I know that this is antecdotal, but it can't hurt to try it yourself and see the results!

Editorial Review

The idea that blood type plays a role in health, wellness, andpersonality wasn't exactly new when Dr. Peter D'Adamo came out with Eat Right 4 Your Type in 1997. The idea had been around for most of the 19th century, and had gained quite a bit of currency in Japan. But it was a startling idea to most Americans, who made the book a bestseller that was translated into more than 40 languages and spawned a similarly successful sequel, Cook Right 4 Your Type.

Now, Dr. D'Adamo--armed with new studies on genetic links between bloodtypes, disease, and behavior--looks at the psychological and medicalpeculiarities that seem to predominate in one blood type or another. TypeO's, for example, have lower than average amounts of a brain chemical called dopamine, leading to poor concentration, hyperactivity, and temper tantrums. A's tend to manufacture too much cortisol, a stress hormone that can lead to hypertension and has even been implicated in Alzheimer's disease and cancer. Type B's and AB's clear nitric oxide out of their systems faster, allowing them to calm down more rapidly than other blood types when stressed.

Dr. D'Adamo offers detailed lifestyle modifications for each type, including exercise programs, long lists of food to either seek out or avoid, and suggested treatment of specific illnesses. Some of this gets pretty arcane, including his recommendation of bladder wrack (a seaweed) for ulcer treatment of Type O's.

A big part of the appeal of this book series is that anyone reading itcan become a participant by joining Dr. D'Adamo's blood-type registry at www.dadamo.com. Live Right for Your Type is peppered with testimonials from these registrants, giving the reader a sense that a true transformation in health, appearance, weight, and well-being is just a few diet and lifestyle changes away. --Lou Schuler ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Living life according to your blood type
The material contained in this book is simply an extension of the ideas presented in the book, "Eat Right 4 Your Type", by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo.Once again, Dr. D'Adamo presents his case as to why our individual genetic make up should be taken into account before we decide on which diet to follow. The doctor extends this idea further by making the case that our genetic make up should also determine how we live our life.

The ideas presented here are fascinating to me.I have spent many hours of my adult life in gyms and fitness centers. And like most fitness enthusiasts, I have always strived to attain that lean, muscular physique that some people seem to have been born with.Spending that much time at those places will teach you that not everyone responds to exercise in the same way.Why should everyone respond to diet the same way?

I have always suspected that I am what is known as a "hard gainer".I have trouble attaining lean muscle mass. That could partly be due to the fact that I have blood type AB.Whereas those with the lean, muscular bodies tend to have blood type O.I would give anything to be able to live on a diet of high protein and low carbohydrate.I cannot stand tofu.Nor can I stand most of the foods indicated for my blood type.I cannot help but wish that I had a different genetic makeup.Unfortunately, we cannot change our genes. But, at least, now we can find ways to make sure that our diet and our lifestyle are compatible with our genetic design.

Let me add that I do not follow the diet prescribed for my blood type.Again, because I simply do not like the foods indicated for my type.I will be miserable if I had to make Tofu and snails a part of my diet.I must have beef and chicken.I dolike Turkey and Salmon though. But that is about it for meat on my diet list. And I am one of those who will fell unsatisfied unless meat is included with every meal. However, that is not a valid reason to criticize the book. The observations made by Dr. D'Adamo, from the way my body reacts to certain foods to the general personality profile, are accurate. When I read the profile of the typical AB, I cannot help but feel that I am reading about myself.

I highly recommend this book. You may decide not to follow the diet, especially if you are unfortunate enough to be a type AB or A.But atleast you will have additional information to help you make decisions about how to live. This book should simply serve as another source of information for you decide which type of diet and exercise to follow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most important/favorite book I have ever gotten(I have lots)
So much of what I learned the hard way, and conclusions I came to on my own, were validated in this book. Yes, yes, exactly, so that's why, no one ever believed me about exercise affecting me that way, ...etc. No wonder my mom's food never felt right for me. etc. It explained the why behind it. When I first heard about the blood type stuff(very passingly) I assumed it was wasteless quackery, (sorry Peter if you are reading this--but know there are those who might feel this way and, like I, need rescuing too!), so if you are reading this thinking that, boy did I turn out to be wrong.I originally came upon reading this book through his cancer book I saw at a bookstore. I was researching cancer for my dog, and thought I'd see how blood type could enter into the picture. This led me to his Disease Encyclopedia book.Page after page of his disease encyclopedia identified family members and other people I knew with the afflictions described, invariably with the corresponding blood type. Chills went up my spine. What else did he write?,...and there was this book on the shelf.I even got and returned the book once, and only got it again to show a dying relative, only to lose the receipt(which I'm so glad).I've used and used the book.It has helped me immensely. Honestly, as sappy/corny as it sounds,...no one thing or person has ever changed my life for the better than this author/this book, and I certainly do NOT say that lightly. ... Read more

Diet schemes come and go. Successful plans, backed by powerful media machines, become bestsellers with sequels and food-product lines. But with so many diet books on the market, how do you decide which plan is right for you? According to Peter D'Adamo, the answer depends on your blood type. In his first book, Eat Right 4 Your Type, D'Adamo, a naturopathic physician and researcher, makes interesting and unique connections between human evolution, blood type, diet, exercise, and health. Now, in Cook Right 4 Your Type: The Practical Kitchen Companion to Eat Right 4 Your Type, D'Adamo provides readers with:

  • Road maps and charts for each of the four blood types, detailing which foods and beverages to consume and which to avoid
  • Tips for starting and sticking with the diet and matching your menu to your blood type
  • Thirty-day meal plans to help you stay healthy, live longer, and achieve your ideal weight
  • More than 200 healthy and easy recipes keyed to blood type
While D'Adamo's theories challenge common nutrition wisdom and his diet can be difficult to follow, Cook Right 4 Your Type will make his advice a little easier to swallow. --Ellen Albertson ... Read more

Finally a plan that works! I have been able to keep my ideal weight, feel great and still enjoy the beneficial foods for my blood type! This book makes a difference for those out there who have had problems with weight gain or poor health. Try it!

My friend recommended this book highly [...]

4-0 out of 5 stars You need this if you are following D'Adamo's approach....
If you have read EAT FOR YOUR TYPE and are trying to follow it, you will love COOK FOR YOUR TYPE.This companion book includes many recipes that you can follow to create meals anyone (type) can eat (family members and guests) as well as dishes designed to benefit your blood type. This approach is immensely helpful for me as I am a Type A and my husband is a Type B. At a minimum I want to fix food that while beneficial for me won't harm him. Each recipe has a `bar code' at the top that shows blood types classified into three categories: `Highly Beneficial', `Neutral' and `Avoid.'For example, buckwheat is highly beneficial for me and he should avoid it so I will fix pancakes for me when he won't eat them or cook something else like an omelet for him (he can have more eggs per week than I can and many more kinds of cheese). Days we want to eat together or evenings for that matter, I can fix oatmeal. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eat Right for Your Blood Type by Dr. D'Adamo
This is a top medical reference in the alternative medicinal
area. The book discusses dietary implications based upon blood
types. For instance, Type A is the agrarian which is comfortable with grains and livestock. Blood type B people require a
balanced diet of meat and dairy. (B-Antigen)Type AB is the
modern man with an inherited tolerance of AB with enhanced
abilities to manufacture more antibodies. (A & B antigen)
The blood type is key to the immune system. Blood type 0
persons have no antigens. (Anti-A and Anti-B antibodies)
Type B people may have milk ; whereas, Type A people tend
to have systems which agglutinate and reject it.

The author mentions an Indican urine scale for bowel
putrification; wherein, the liver and intestines do not
metabolize proteins. Instead; they produce indols- toxic
byproducts on the Indican Scale. Foods with toxic Indicans
should be avoided.i.e. Bologna which magnifies nitrites

Lactin activity inflames the intestines, causes bloating and
slows food metabolism.Blood type O discourages the
metabolism of animal protein. This type person needs lean and chemical - free meat, fish and chicken. Wheat gluten slows the
metabolism and interferes with insulin efficiency.
Kelp, seafood, liver, kale, spinach, brocolli and red meat
are ideal for metabolism and weight loss/stabilization.
Bacon, ham, pork, American cheese, cheddar and ice cream
should be minimized. Soy may be utilized as a good alternate
to the dairy group. Flax oil and olive oil are beneficial.
Corn oil and peanut oil should be avoided. Type B persons
have stronger immune systems and may eat meat, green veggies,
eggs, liver, licorace tea and ginger. Type AB persons benefit
from TOFU, dairy , green veggies and millet.

Persons with sinusitis and Type B should avoid fenugreek.
Type O persons should avoid alfalfa. Type B persons react
badly to vaccines. Type A persons should avoid cayenne due
to potential nausea. Type O and B should avoid aloe vera juice.

This book contains a wealth of important dietary material.
It should be read carefully. The contents should be placed
in a daily diary for maximum benefit and systematic
measurement of progress. The book is worth the price.
I find the information content of this book nowhere else.
For this reason alone, the book should be purchased and
read carefully.

5-0 out of 5 stars More scientifically oriented than Eat Right...
I admit it: I was suspicious of this diet. Before examining this book, I thought the diet sounded very "fad-like"(and I remain wholly unconvinced by the personality-trait correspondences which are NOT essential to the scientific basis of the diet, just a curiosity). I read negative reviews and their justifications. What I noticed was that most of these reviews sounded a lot like the criticisms leveled at the Atkins diet, a diet that does work for a lot of people (though not all--this book makes clear why) that have since been disproven by double-blind studies.A number noted that d'Adamo's theories weren't backed up by scientific research.Fair enough; this book cites double-blind studies and peer-reviewed research extensively, far more so than the Eat Right and Cook Right books. It also fine-tunes some of the earlier findings. This is ongoing research, something you just don't see in proponents of "fad" diets.D'Adamo has clearly been listing to his critics, and makes every attempt to clarify, fine-tune, and explain how all of this works.

I picked this book--and the diet--up when I browsed it in the store and noted that the medical problems in my family charted almost exactly with the risk factors for blood type.(Blood type correlations with disease have actually been established in peer-reviewed medical journals for a long time, although they aren't much talked about.)I tried the diet.I'm about three weeks in.I've lost 10 pounds, my digestive problems are much improved, I feel more energetic, I don't crave sweets, and -- the most convincing thing for me, because I wasn't looking for it and therefore can't attribute it to the placebo effect -- the morning stiffness I've had for 30 years is gone.It takes at least a week for things to kick in--especially if one has increased intestinal permeability due to intestinal damage--but it does, and for many, myself included, the results are quite profound.

I am not a scientist, nor am I claiming that d'Adamo has everything right. There are some typos in the book, although most misprints are corrected on the website (www.dadamo.com)--hard to find, but worth looking. This is ongoing research, however. D'Adamo also uses that site to update new findings on food compatibility.I think this diet could easily be used in conjunction with others appropriate to type. For instance, type O people will do well with Atkins as long as they cut out the wheat gluten and dairy; people with food allergies may have to limit intake of more foods than he lists. He suggests 70-80% compliance works for most people.

Even the critics suggest that this diet isn't likely to harm anyone.I fully expect some version of this to be exonerated as fully as, if not more than, Atkins. In the meantime, this is a great resource, it's interesting reading even for the healthy, and it is more likely to engage a reader like myself who likes to see detailed scientific justification before jumping into a health plan. ... Washing and drying leafy vegetables has never been simpler or more fun than with this gadget. One hand is all you need to press the soft, cushioned knob to start the spinning; when the built-in brake is applied and the job is done, the basket and bowl can be taken apart and used separately. The knob locks down for easy storage, and the spinner is dishwasher-safe. Use this tool with lettuce, raw spinach, broad-leafed herbs, and greens--they end up clean and oh-so-dry, and the drier your leaves, the better salad dressings will adhere and the less mushy your sandwich bread will become. Puddles at the bottom of your salad bowl disappear... Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked great until it broke
This was a wonderful salad spinner for the several months it worked. Then it broke. In my kitchen, very few things break. The occasional wooden spatula after fifteen years of use is fine but things tend not to break unless I drop them. This is my second Oxo product that broke while I was using it (the other one was a knife--yes, a knife snapped in two while I was cutting).I still love my Oxo peeler but with two out of three of my Oxo products breaking, I'm done with Oxo for the most part.

1-0 out of 5 stars worked well until it exploded
I bought this item and used it for about 2 months, then It exploded while I was spinning a salad and was impossible to repair. I went on to buy a Tupperware salad spinner (green) and have been using it for four years with no problems at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Agree it's great ... but it has 1 huge problem
This has got to be the best salad spinner ever, on that point I agree with all the other rave reviews. But just try picking this unit up off a shelf when you have wet hands--or even dry hands!!!!!!! It's difficult!!!! Just wish they would put a small, very small, handle, ridge or inset on the bowl!!! Please!!! ... Read more

I love these cutting boards -- clean up a breeze too. Rock solid quality boards won't slid when you use them. Quick cleanup. And unlike the wood boards, these won't get "greenish" -- since they're make of plastic. I used a coupon from UnderTag.com, so it was almost free for me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but flawed
In general I like the set but the biggest board in the group came warped.Ok if you have it resting one way but put it the other and it makes a great lazy Susan.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst blender EVER
I can not believe these 5 star reviews. I fell for it and bought the blender.
Save your money and don't buy this. I followed the manual recipe for
chocolate mousse to the letter.
The first try, the entire amount of milk spilled through the base despite
the "lock" in the safety base... So I tightened it and this time it didn't spill.
However - after the mousse was done, the safety base would NOT open for cleaning regardless of what we tried.
For an entire week - myself and my girlfriend labored to open this, we used
warm water, vinegar, soaking overnight, twisting in all different directions
in 3 diemsnions, brute force, pliers, sharp knife to clean in between the
cracks (just in case there was something there) - you name it and we tried it
but to no avail. The darn thing was permanently cemented.
Despaired, I then broke the safety base lock with a hammer (smashed it) and
inspected the internal ring to see what was cementing it - and guess what ?
NOTHING, absolutely no dirt or food stuck. It was white clean.
This is the worst blender I ever owned, gone after the very first usage and its
absolutely the last Hamilton Beach product I will ever buy.
Save your money and RUN away from this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars But the shipping
A great blender, and I hoped to order from Amazon. But it isn't shipped from Amazon. It is from some wholesale club that Amazon fronts for.Shipping was quoted at over $17.00!More than 55% of the price of the item!So much for the lovely discount. So, I bought it at a mall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great smoothie blender
Got this blender a month ago - almost paid full price for it before Xmas. Now it is a bargain at <$30. The "BlendSmart" feature is pretty nifty - just dump in your fruit, yogurt, ice, etc., hit one button, and it goes thru an automaticpre-programmed cycle of pulsing and blending that makes a perfect smoothie everytime. Also makes good frozen drinks too. Seems pretty powerful and the heavy glass pitcher has ridges in it that must help create the desired turbulence to assure an even mixing and chopping. ... Panasonic SD-YD250Automatic Bread Maker

Editorial Review

Providing myriad options, this automatic bread maker embodiesthe marvels of 21st century electronic convenience and choice. Yes, itmixes, kneads, rises, and bakes bread in three loaf sizes up to 2-1/2pounds. But its digital controls go much further, offering settings forwhite, whole wheat, multigrain, and French (crisp crust, open texture)breads, each made according to what's best for that particular style.Other settings permit rapid baking and baking sandwich bread with asoft crust. For raisin (or other dried-fruit) bread, a beeper signalswhen to add the fruit so it's not crushed during kneading. Crustcolor--dark or light--can be selected as well.

The machine automatically adds yeast at the proper time from adispenser on the unit's lid. It also bakes non-yeast, quick breads-- like banana and gingerbread--and sweet cakes. And it mixes, kneads, andrises doughs for pizza, focaccia, croissants, and other pastrieswithout baking them. A timer permits the machine to be programmed up to13 hours in advance so fresh bread or cake is available for breakfastor dinner. For cleanup convenience, the baking pan is nonstick. Clad inmetal and packing 550 watts of power, the machine measures 13-1/2inches wide, 13 inches high, and 10-1/4 inches deep. Its instructionbooklet is exceptionally easy to understand and includes recipes for 40breads and doughs along with an insightful guide to baking basics andillustrated tips for making pastries. --Fred Brack ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Burnt Bread
I purchased this machine with high hopes. The first few loaves turned out well. After three weeks, the loaves and the bread bucket began to get scorch marks and the bread too had black marks.I was getting nervous that this was going to cause a fire.

Panasonic pre-paid to have this machine sent for repair after I used this machine for three weeks. The repair shop kept it for 10 weeks. When it was returned, they did not replace the burned bread bucket, and it was still scorched. After baking bread again, the burning was getting worse on the bread, and it looks like burnt toast on the crust.Panasonic is sending the machine back for repair again. It has been four months now, and I have only had this machine for use for three weeks. After it is repaired this time, I am going to put it up for sale on amason.com and purchase a Zorishee...or however it's spelled.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like Mom used to make
We have had this bread machine for about 6 months and it has performed beyond expectations.I had spent several years trying to make bread by hand but couldn't achieve the results I wanted and couldn't even come close to the texture and flavor that my mother achieved. The bread from this machine is consistently of excellent texture and flavor.I would swear it was Mom's in a blind taste test.We also make our pizza and dinner roll dough with this machine and haven't looked back. The only minor gripe is that the XL size for bread is pretty much useless, when we have tried to make that size, it ends up smaller than the L size loaves. It seems the machine isn't large enough to allow a full rise.Otherwise an excellent machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Never a bad loaf
I was going to start out by saying this bread machine is idiot proof but that might shine a poor light on all those folks that wrote reviews that started with something like "Can't make bread!" :-)

This is BY FAR the best bread machine I have ever used.I have NEVER made a bad loaf of bread (I know that sounds grandiose, but it is true!).The yeast dispenser is worth the price all by itself (the first time it makes the POPPING sound as it dispenses the yeast is a bit startling, though [be prepared for it!]).You will need to get a digital kitchen scale for measuring, but most cooks worth their salt (pun intended) should probably look to get this particular gadget anyway.

If you plan on buy this machine I would do four things in preparation of its arrival:

1) Start looking for sales on digital scales.
2) Start looking for recipes online and books that give weights as measurements for the flour.
3) Start laying out the butter and bread knife so that you can slice into your first perfect loaf (you can never be TOO prepared to eat!).
4) Start salivating NOW! (I have a loaf of french bread in the baking phase as I type so if this review suddenly stops in mid sentence you'll know the drool hit the keyboard!) ... Read more

KitchenAid KTT460ER 2-Slice, Single-Slot Digital Toaster with Bagel, Warm, and Frozen Functions, Empire Red
by KitchenAid
Average Customer Review: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $69.99

Editorial Review

This single-slot digital toaster from KitchenAid not onlytoasts most widths of bread to perfection but also warms pastries, getsbagels just right, and handles frozen items intelligently. A simpleuser-friendly display governs all these functions, with a dial forbrowning preference and three buttons for the "warm," "frozen," and"bagel" options. The "warm" function heats without toasting, while the"frozen" function gently thaws, then toasts. The "bagel" functiontoasts the cut side 100 percent and the crust 50 percent. Each functionincludes an indicator light, and the digital display shows the selectedbrowning level. If you toast several servings in a row, KitchenAid'sEven Heat system adjusts cooking time to ensure consistent results.

Structurally, the toaster is sound and accommodating, holding twoslices at a time. The toasting rack automatically centers bread betweenthe elements, and the Soft Rise feature raises finished toast high foreasy removal. The toaster also features heavy-duty heating elements, afull-width dishwasher-safe crumb tray, a stainless-steel interior, andstain-resistant polycarbonate housing. The power cord has an especiallytidy feature--it wraps out of sight underneath the toaster for storageor shortening. The unit measures 5-1/4 by 14-1/2 by 8 inches and wipesclean easily with a damp cloth. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Only If
This would be a great product only if it did what it promised. IT DON'T! Memory, HUH! It will not give uniform results. The settings are not close enough. But, the worst is you never know how the toast will come out. When it does give you the shade you want the setting will be up around 7-8, but, sometimes it will come out too light. So, you have to plunge the toast down again and manually stop it. The most uniform results come when you set it around 3-4, and, as a matter of course do it twice at that setting. Great idea, lousy execution.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointment, typical of now-made-in-China Kitchen Aid
Having been a long-time fan of Kitchen Aid, an owner of many Kitchen Aid appliances, and the recipient of amazing first-tier customer service from the company, I am shocked at this item.

Kitchen Aid's new line of products, manufactured in the People's Republic of China, are a far cry from the quality to which Yanks are accustomed.

The toaster is attractive to look at.Excess cord length can be stowed underneath. The removable crumb tray is great. However, the plastic is chintzy, and the lever which lowers the toast has a decided rattle, an early "I'm going to break" warning.

Most important in a toaster: How well it toasts. And this is the first toaster I've ever encountered that does not toast evenly! It's 2004, people! The right- and left sides of every piece of bread are overly brown, and the middle of every slice, toasted in this appliance, remains blonde or out-and-out white.

I would not recommend this appliance.I wish I had kept my old, dented, similarly-styled, single-slot Oster toaster circa 1980.It's 24 years old, cost half as much, and it did a better, more uniform job of toasting bread.

I expect more from Kitchen Aid.Previously, Kitchen Aid products were worth their premium. That's no longer the case.

2-0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Aid KTT460WT 2-slice tpaster
Very poor performance.Does not toast evenly.Very disappointed in this product.Would never buy one again.Warming Bagel function is the only part of this toaster that is worth while. So, if you only warm bagels, it's fine. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Great pan...but
This was my favorite pan for about a year. It is very versatile and cooks well.I always used plastic utensils, and a non-abrasive scrub brush, but, nontheless, after a year of use, the coating is coming off the pan.I'm going to pitch it because I don't want to be eating the coating. This is the second Calphalon pan that did this to me. I think you may have to spend the big bucks to get a decent pan that will last.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Everyday Pan in this household
This pan truly fits its name.I use it for everything. On the stove or in the oven, it works great!Cleanup is easy as well.I haven't had any problems with the non stick surface and I've owned it for two years.I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if and when the non stick surface wears off.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Pan, but ...
When I first purchased it, I loved it.We used it about 2-3 times a week.I am very careful as to use wooden spoons or rubber spatulas so as not to scratch the surface of the pan. After about 7 or 8 months of use, the non-stick surface started to wear off.I still use it, however, but am looking for a replacement.I cannot find this exact same pan anymore. ... Editorial Review

Le Creuset's brightly colored, virtually indestructiblesilicone spatulas created a buzz when they were first introduced. Nowthis set combines six flame-colored ones in a complementary stonewarestorage crock. Not only will these spatulas serve every cooking need, but they'll add a splash of color to any kitchen. Durable, flexible, and stain-resistant, the spatulas endure incredible temperatures--800degrees F and 425 degrees C--without melting or discoloring. Thespatulas: one tapered, slotted spoon spatula (3-1/2 inches long and2-1/2 inches wide at its base); two solid spoon spatulas (3-1/2 inches by2-5/8 inches and 2-7/8 inches by 2-1/8 inches); and three scrapingspatulas of different widths (2 inches, 1-3/8 inches, and 1 inch). Thehandsome crock stands 5-7/8 inches high, and its flared mouth is 5inches in diameter, providing plenty of room for tools other than thespatulas. 4-0 out of 5 stars You probably don't need all of these!
I bought this set about three years ago and I simply would not cook without them. I am as enthusiastic as other reviewers who have given this set five stars, except that I only really use two out of the six pieces.

If I had to do it over, I would buy the very attractive pot and three each of the medium sized spoonula and the small spatula. I simply do not use the others. They are gathering dust as we speak.

Now if your cooking is a bit different than mine, you may have different needs, but I cook or bake four or five times a week, and I simply do not use 2/3 of this set. And, it is only the spoonula which gets used in high heat environments.

For room temperatures, I often find more use for a spatula which is a lot stiffer than these silicone plastics.

I recommend you find some way of buying only the pot and six of the medium spoonulas! Even these wear out from small nicks and cuts over time, and you do not want to find yourself without one at hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Set
I bought this same set at an outlet mall (much better price, but same product).

They are very well built and have stood up to just about anything I can throw at them from heat to various sauces. They have never melted, scorched or stained so far! Even though they have wood handles, there is a protective finish that keeps them from staining. I did place one through the dishwasher (not recommended) and it came out fine too.

They have replaced all of my miscellaneous pieces I have had laying around and now I have an attractive addition to my kitchen as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait...
I saw this set in the blue on Amazon just before Christmas for the amazing price of $34.99. Knowing how much these normally are I quickly ordered them and was told they were on backorder and would be shipped to me when they were available. For that price, I would wait as long as it took to get them! I finally got them early February and they are worth the wait. I have used them everyday since receiving them and I wonder how I did without them. I wish I'd ordered my mother a set at the same time I ordered my set. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mighty Little Chopper
I just received the KitchenAid KFC3100ER Chef Series Food Chopper and LOVE it.It is very powerful, doesn't leak while making dressings and the red color is very nice also. One draw back...... while it chops, or blends, stuff flys out of the top of the lid where you pour in fluids.I was surprised that there was no cover for it I even checked the box it came in again to make sure I didn't miss it.Hopefully KitchenAid will realize this and make one available for this mighty chopper. In the mean time I suggest using something like foil to place over the lid opening so you don't wear what you are blending or chopping. With that little issue I still give it a 5 star rating you won't be disappointed with it's usefulness and power.Someone mentioned the noise I didn't find it to be an issue, at all.

Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars So Easy to Use and So Poweful too!
I literally threw out our larger Hamilton Beach Food processor because the lid was so hard to get off, almost impossible. We downsized with a bit of apprehension to a 3 cup size and it's perfect! The first culinary delight I made was some ham salad, everything was processed quickly, quietly [not an issue at all] andevenly. Then of course onions, carrots, relish items, all made in short order. This is an awsome machine that we can easily get the lid on and off and processes powerfully without a problem.I am so thrilled with this machine. There is just the two of us now but we entertain alot. Also so easy to store.I only used a few speeds on the big processor so hitting pulse a few times isn't a big issue at all.We love this little giant!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Nice Well Built piece of Equipment
Finally- a product that appears to be well made & works well.My only complaint (and it's not really a complaint - I just didn't know to expect this) is that when you chop items like onions or cucumbers, they get really watery. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended for Brown Rice
I purchased this rice cooker to cook brown rice.Everytime I have made brown rice, the water boils up thru the vent on the top lid and down the back of the machine.Which then leaves a puddle of thick rice water on the counter and a mess to clean up.Because some of the water boils out, the rice is hard and not soft like it should be.
After contacting Zojirushi and asking for their help, they said that you can only make l cup of brown rice in this rice maker.I hardly think a rice maker is worth the money spent if you can only cook l cup of rice at a time.I was really disappointed with this rice maker. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Kitchen Appliance, even for starving college students:-
This is the best kitchen appliance in the world. I am a master kings chef now, because of this steamer. My specialty is chicken, rice and a whole lotta veggies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Present for healthy eaters
I received this as a wedding gift in June 2004, and I must say that is little machine is very good. You don't have to wait for a long time when cooking fresh or even frozen veggies. Also, I used it to steam some shrimp, so it can be used for various foods. Great for people watching diets, you can add as much salt or seasoning as you like in the little area they have to steam and season the food at the same time. Since I am on a Sodium control diet, it is very important to watch my salt instake and with this steamer I can add it myself with fresh foods (instead of the packaged foods).

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for almost everything
I just got the steamer in last week because my old rice cooker died on me.I thought I would try steaming, and this seemed like a good opportunity.

So far, I've tried rice, broccoli, salmon, and chicken.I messed up the instructions on the rice (didn't see to add water to the bottom part so it didn't cook :( ), but the broccoli and chicken came out perfectly. The salmon was simply awesome, almost as good as grilled.I expect the rice will turn out fine also, after some experimenting.I like to mix brown and white rice because my husband won't eat straight brown rice, and the instructions don't cover that.

The steamer is very easy to use, but the instructions say to hand wash it.With the chicken and fish, bits of fat get stuck in the holes of the clear portion of the steamer, and I had to use a brush to get it out.Kind of a pain, but I think it's worth it.Just make sure you have some kind of brush on hand if you plan on cooking meat.I would like to put some of the pieces in the dishwasher, but I'm afraid that they will melt.

The instructions say to get food stains out of the bottom part (the heater area) with baking soda. The heating element had turned brown after cooking with rosemary, and that did not do the trick.I put some water and vinegar in there, and it came off much more easily after soaking for about 15 minutes.(Don't mix baking soda and vinegar, of course, unless you want a mess.)

All in all, I'm happy with the purchase.I may go out and get another rice cooker, though, because you can't make both the steamed meat or veggies and rice at the same time. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Love the product not the cups
I am a big fan of pyrex and was really excited to see such a diverse set for a pretty low price. However I am not at all thrilled with the glass measuring cups. All three of mine constantly spill when I'm trying to pour something out of it and into a bowl or container. It's like the mouth of cup is too small or something.Everytime I use them something spills out and onto the counters.I would have thought pyrex brand would have been much better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great starter kit, and more!
I LOVE THIS SET!I never realized how nice it would be to have so many measuring cups - I used to have one and just wash it in between each use when measuring ingredients for cookies (or whatever else I was cooking/baking).This saves me so much time!I use the cup, rinse it out, stick it in the dishwasher.

The bowls are great - I use mine for everything from serving chips in them, to microwaving soup, to mixing, to storing.. they are wonderful and the fact that they are seethrough is a great benefit. They also do well in the dishwasher, I've had my set for many years and they still look brand new.

The measuring spoons are ok.They work, and I stick them in the dishwasher too, but I don't like the keyring design (it's good for keeping track of all the spoons though!).

Overall, 5 stars. Can't beat this great deal - where else will you get a set this good for $25? ... Read more

I've found it doesn't make a mess in the microwave, heats faster, and is cool to the touch to pick up by the handles.Well worth the money!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A step above
I bought these for my wife as she our old collection was needing replacement. The nice thing about this set is the containers are color coded like the lids. With two small children we often find ourselves running out of storage containers and we have many. When you have a large collection it is often hard to find the lid you need to match the container. This set helps speed this up and makes it simple enought that our 3 year old can even help out when we need a container. ... Read more

Tupperware Garlic Wonder Gadget
by Tupperware
Kitchen
list price: $21.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Most garlic presses mince cloves of peeled garlic, but this clever gadget does more than that. An integral stainless-steel lever helps peel cloves of garlic in two ways: the metal edge neatly snips the end off a clove, and a clove placed under its widest part is lightly smashed. Both techniques render the garlic easy to peel. Then the garlic is placed in the metal cage, the large ergonomically designed handle squeezed, and the garlic is minced through the cage holes. Toss the gadget in the dishwasher for easy cleanup, or swing open the parts and give it a quick once-over with a dish brush. The garlic press measures 6-3/4 by 1 by 3 inches and comes with Tupperware's lifetime warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

This high-speed kettle employs 1,500 watts of electric power tobring 1 cup of cold water to a rolling boil in one minute. With thekettle filled to its 7-cup capacity, a full boil is achieved in fiveminutes. That makes the kettle ideal for instant coffee, tea, hotchocolate, or instant soups. To ensure that the water doesn't boil awayif attention is diverted, the kettle shuts off automatically once thewater reaches full boil. For convenience, it lifts off its corded powerbase for cordless pouring, can be set on the power base in anydirection, and turns on (or off) with a simple push of a button on thehandle. Inside the spout there's a removable and washable antiscalefilter that extends the kettle's life. With an exterior of hard, gleaming plastic, the kettle wipes clean easily. It's pleasingly plump, has water-level windows on both sides and a cord wrap underneath, andcarries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really great electric kettle
I purchased this kettle as a replacement for my Kraps. I purchased Kraps kettle a few month ago and enjoyed it for a short period of time until it started leaking. When I was thinking to purchase T-Fal I was suspicious that I would encounter the same problem as my previous kettle.
Now I've used T-Fal kettle for a while. It is just perfect. First of all, it is very well designed. It looks fine in the kitchen and does not occupy much space. It boils the water within 1-2 minutes and shuts off automatically. This feature is particularly important early in the morning when you are rushing to work. You never have to remember if you left the kettle on.
Conclusion: I love this kettle :)

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good choice
This kettle has all the features I wanted - large capacity, heats fast, turns off automatically.Works great. Now I'm getting one for my parents!

5-0 out of 5 stars Super kettle
I purchased my first T-Fal Vitesse kettle over a year ago, and it is still going strong, no problems.I love it so much I bought two more, one for the office and one for the breakroom. As many have written previously, the buttons are grey, not yellow, but if you can get past the design change, this is a kettle to love. ... The first bowl you'll reach for when mixing morning pancakes or banana bread, this stainless-steel bowl is especially useful when working with ingredients that should stay chilled. Simply pop the bowl in the freezer for a few minutes before using, and your cream will whip much more quickly. The sturdy lip of the bowl makes a firm grip easy to maintain. This bowl is really designed to be a true kitchen workhorse. It holds up well to a variety of temperatures, and you can pop it in the dishwasher as necessary. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great deal, nice bowl, sturdy construction
While I wasn't willing to plunk down $80 for an overpriced All-Clad mixing bowl, I was looking for a stronger than usual, commercial-style mixing bowl, sturdier than what is typically sold at say, Target or Bed Bath & Beyond.

This mixing bowl is easy on the wallet, and is a strong little number as well. The steel is definitely quality, and fairly thick, and the bottom is also flat for a better grip on one's countertop.I also purchased the smaller 2-quart bowl as well, and the bottom of that is sheathed in an attractive blue rubber, that also enhances traction on countertops.

My only gripe is that now I need to buy the 6 quart as well, for larger jobs such as cake batter or salads.Really a nice set. But, I'd say save yourself some money and get the bowls individually, rather than the set of 3 bowls for $49.99 that Amazon is also offering.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great design...great price...great all around
This is a wonderful item. Before I had this one (and the same one in another size)I only had plastic bowls. This one is so much better on alot of levels.

First it is a wonderful, all around great size. Its substantial size makes it great for alot of mixing chores. Its easy to clean and maintain. And great for salads as it holds the temperature and the salads stay cold.

My old plastic bowls werent as study and had a tendancy to tip, didnt help with temerature reculation and were harder to clean (tomato would stain it , you couldnt use plastic as a make-shif double boiler, and it was hard to ever be sure any grease was off it, essential for whipping egg whites.

this is a great item. They arent bad for storage either as they nest.I wouldnt get any other bowls, at this point...

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Bowl
I never thought I'd gush about a mixing bowl, but this one is great.I bought it as part of a deal with the Whirley Pop popcorn popper and I love this bowl. This is a thicker and heavier stainless steel than all my other bowls.Because it is heavier, it is less prone to move or tip over. All mixing bowls are not created the same, and this one is clearly one of the best. ... Editorial Review

Juicing is a healthful way to eat fruits and veggies, and the Waring Juice Extractor takes juicing to the next level. A high-speed 400-watt motor makes the extraction process efficient, and makers of carrot juice will especially appreciate the brushed stainless-steel housing--the extractor won't turn orange with age.

Everyone who's ever owned a juicer knows that cleanup is the biggest downfall of home juicing. With the Waring, that won't be an issue--the compact strainer, pulp collector, lid, and juice collector are all dishwasher-safe, and the stainless-steel body wipes clean with a sponge. The extractor's die-cast base stays steady on the countertop, and its cushioned feet will minimize vibration, protecting the countertop from scratches. The extractor comes with an instruction book, a five-year limited warranty on the motor, and a one-year limited appliance warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor extraction of Juice...lots of pulp
Bought the Jex328 Waring Pro.This machine works well except that the juice is full of pulp.I have to use a strainer to remove the excess pulp before I can enjoy the juice.I am now looking for another juicer...and as this is the first time I am using a Waring, should I stick with the brand or search somewhere else.

1-0 out of 5 stars PULPY AND WASTEFUL
Motor sounds great, but juices are kinda pulpy.
Plus the accumulated pulps have plenty of juice in them.
The pulp should be somewhat dry with no juice comming out when squeezed, hence 1 star rating.

4-0 out of 5 stars QUICK & EASY!
This juicer is super simple to use and best of all VERY easy to clean !We have a old champion juicer that is complicated and inconvenient for everyday juicing, but the Waringis small enough to leave out for everyday use. ... Read more
