Editorial Review

The perfect set to kick off a Fiestaware collection, equip a college dorm room, or pair with other Fiestaware pieces for a larger set, this four-piece place setting from Fiestaware consists of a dinner plate, salad plate, bowl, and mug. Celebrated in the 1940s, '50s, and '60s for its streamlined art deco look and colorful glazes, Fiestaware is enjoying a remarkable comeback today. All pieces in this set have the signature Fiestaware rings and match Fiestaware pieces in white or bolder colors such as persimmon or juniper. With over 50 Fiestaware dinnerware and accessory pieces to choose from, you can build your collection over time starting with this one-person set. The 100 percent lead-free glaze is nonporous, so it won't absorb foods, and it's durable enough to withstand the microwave and dishwasher. Some stainless-steel flatware may leave marks on the plates, but these can be easily removed with a nonabrasive cleanser. --Emily Wolf

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great set of dishes!
Hi! We love these dishes. With each bonus from each quarter, I have been treating myself to a new color of the 4-piece sets. Previously, I had a "starter" set from Target that lasted 10 years. I wanted something fun that didn't cost a fortune for 4-5 pieces. Everything else I liked cost $45-$75 per setting.

My two kiddos love to choose the color of dinnerware to eat from. When I have guests over, we serve just about anything with this set, mixing and matching colors to make it fun. I truly have people arguing over what color they are sitting down to at the table! These are reasonable, intelligent adults...hence the mixing and matching.
Interestingly enough, people (and kiddos) go for the lighter and brighter colors. I have the plum and cobalt blue, but they are rarely requested.

I have one of those plate racks over my sink, and these plates display beautifully. I get compliments every time. You'd think it was a decorating scheme instead of convenience!

The smaller sized plate is perfect for sandwiches and small portions of a regular meal. My kids love eating from them. The bowls are great for soup, ice cream, salad, pasta...you name it. They stack perfectly fine too.

I was worried about putting these dishes into the dishwasher and diminishing the beautiful colors, but that was for nothing.

Above all, my husband, who is usually tighter with money than I am is getting actively involved in ordering the colors, and getting excited about getting some of the non-essentials.

On a side note, we have already bought a tea-pot and a pitcher. His sister loved the tea-pot so much, we bought one for her birthday last year. It was one of the few things she brought with her when she moved to Europe. She has some of the original fiesta-ware that was passed down from her grandmother. These pieces are keepers, which I hope to pass on down to my children as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fire Engine Red!
This is the most gorgeous color and it goes with all the other colors of fiesta so well.. It is a perfect gift idea to start someone off with a set of Fiesta.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple & solid. The food is the art instead of the plate.
Over time, I've come to appreciate simpler, less busy-looking dishes.I like letting the food be the art instead of the plate-pattern.My parents have had the yellow Fiestaware for at least 10 years. The yellow was discontinued in 2002, but the sunflower is close--a bit deeper and brighter while the yellow is more pastel. They are solid, sturdy, not prone to chipping or cracking, and I've been told they're forgiving when dropped. My parents' dishes still look as good as new.I've never noticed any knife scratches on the plates.(FWIW Most of the reviews complaining of this seem to be in the darker colors.)Just about all food looks good on this cheerful yellow plate, which of all the Fiestaware colors, is my favorite for serving food. However a friend has a wide variety of Fiestaware colors and I also enjoy being able to mix and match, and to select dishes according to my mood. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Astounding
I certaily won't be using that C*lph*lon brand again! After two or three of the aforementioned brand's pans non-stick surface fizzled out in less than 2 years, I decided it was time for a change. This pan is phenomenal. I use PAM for cooking omelettes, potatoes, and even burgers and they come out great. It has a great feel to the handle which remains cool, it's easy to manage due to the professional thumb detent in the handle, and the aluminum clad bottom heats very evenly while remaining durable. What a great buy. ALl of my cookware will be replaced by Scanpan products as needed...

5-0 out of 5 stars Scan Pan is the one!
Hi,
I had been reading about scanpan on all the cookware forums I browse and it had consistently good reviews. Also I am not a fan of nonstick as I find that, ease apart, food just doesnt taste good cooked on NS.
When I read abt Scan pan, I thought it would be good to try a piece. Well, I did taking advantage of this deal on Amazon!! I am happy to say it is the wisest decision I made.

I cooked eggs in them and washed the pan and found no trace or smell of the eggs! I usually hate the smell that you get from frying eggs, so I was pretty pleased. Then I sauteed veggies and that was great tasting and cleaned up real quick. No elbow grease.
I think this pan is a great buy. The one piece we shd really invest in for eggs.

Reasons
1. does not stick
2. u can wash it when warm whcih you cannot wth NS
3. u can use metal utensils
4. you still get some browning

do you want any more?? well, will come up with some after a while, I guess:))

To sum up this is a great introduction to the world of scanpan.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really works

I just got one. I tried cooking an egg with no oil in it on medium heat. It stuck a little, but I could clean it off with one wipe of a paper towel. I can't do this with any other pan I own. With just a slight amount of butter (a pat cut 1/16th inch thick), I repeated the test and was able to flip the egg with ease and there was NO stcking at all. It cleaned off with just dabbing a paper towel along the surface. The outside of the pan also has non stick sides, so if you get some slop on the sides on the outside of the pan, it wipes off as well. The heat distribution was superb as evidenced by the changing pattern from clear to white of the egg white and the uniformity of browning of the egg surface. I intend to use this pan for omlettes and crepes. It exceeds any other fry / saute pan I've used.

You can use metal utensils on this pan: amazing. The handle is suppossed to be good to 500 deg F. I finally found a non stick pan I can use!

I have Le Creuset, multiple stainless, plain cast iron and several (retired) non stick (including Corning and Analon). The eggs are cleaner than from cast iron. In the Le Cruset or stainless, a soaking is required for the same test. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful and durable but needs some design changes
I do love this bakeware for ease of use and cleaning.I have not had any trouble with breaking or food sticking to them....not even potatoes au gratin. They are pretty as well as practical. The only change I would make would be to put the handles back on the sides like the older Corning Ware that my mom used to have.I still have one of her pieces and it is much easier to get out of the oven while hot.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that great
These dishes, first of all, are just beautiful. The white looks so wonderful on the table and the presentation is just fabulous. That said, be prepared to buy and buy and buy these if you like the looks of them. They break horribly easily and the cleanup, well, we just won't go there.I've had mine for 10 years and now I'm down to just two of the serving pieces. They break very easily in the oven, in the cabinet, you name it, it's gone.If you're looking for a better one, go for the Le Creuset La Poterie line, or just grab a Longaberger one. They're definitely worth it because you'll just have to keep buying these to keep them looking good and in one piece.I hate trying to clean these after using them so I just don't use them anymore for anything but to mix items. That way, nothing gets baked on them and I am not breaking nails scouring off the mess.I definitely recommend getting something else.

3-0 out of 5 stars So-so, I suppose
I had high hopes for this product. It's definatly not as good as I expected. I had one of these years ago from some no-name company and it worked great. After years of use and abuse, it finally broke. So I replaced it with this, thinking it would be better because it's KitchenAid. This is difficult to take apart after using-I feel like I'm going to break it. It doesn't hold very much. It's also a pain to clean, almost impossible if you don't clean it IMMEDIATLY after you use it. I used mine to chop garlic about 2 months ago and it smells like it still. In my opinion, it's just easier to use a knife.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gadget
Be sure to buy this one over the Zyliss - I couldn't get the Zyliss to do anything but mangle onions just a little. This Kitchenaid chopper is just fantastic. It chops very easily and very quickly, and the cleanup is just a breeze.I usually wash mine on the top rack of the dishwasher and it has always done just fine. It's fabulous for nuts too!

For some of us, salt-and-pepper shakers just don't cut it. We need grinders, so we can shred our spices fresh and know for certain that the pepper in our cabinet hasn't been sitting in ground form for years. That's why the Chef 'n Lab 921 dual grinder is such a revelation, as it not only looks stylish, but it lets you grind both salt and pepper in the same device. Merely twist the soft SavvyGrip handles to "P" for pepper or "S" for salt. When fully filled with medley peppercorns and coarse sea salt, the grinder modestly produces great-tasting spices for your palatable pleasure. It even comes with GrindTune levers, so you can adjust the coarseness of the salt and pepper. --Rivers Janssen ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars o.k. butflimsy
I loved this for the 6-8 months I had it. But, its flimsy and the thing broke while i was using it. I think I'm going to buy another one though. It's pricey and cheaply made but works great.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap, cheap, cheap
This is the worst kitchen tool I've yet purchased.I had it about two months.First off, it gives your hand quite a workout to get enough pepper on your food.Second, aiming the pepper/salt takes some getting used to, as it doesn't land exactly where you expect it should.

Last, the materials are cheap and flimsy. After what I would consider minimal use, the handles broke while dispensing pepper.Again, the device broke within two months of purchase.

Buy this, and you'll most likely regret it.

4-0 out of 5 stars I really like this grinder!
This duel S&P grinder is a great tool for the kitchen. I just got it last week and have already used it quite a bit. It's easy to use and you can even get by with a one-handed grind which is helpful when you are seasoning raw meat or have one hand otherwise food covered. I'm actually going to be getting a couple others to pass along as gifts. ... Read more

Misto Gourmet Stainless-Steel Olive Oil Sprayer, Black Band

For spreading olive oil evenly on bruschetta, focaccia, and grilled or roasted vegetables, and for spraying muffin and cake pans with vegetable oil, this dispenser is a nifty tool. A plastic cap underneath the sprayer's top twists off so the sprayer can be half-filled (1/3 cup) with oil. Inside the top is a plastic tube that fits over the spray nozzle. Push the top up and down to pump air pressure into the canister. Then spray for 10 seconds and pump up again. It's simple, ingenious, and practical. With its cap on, the sprayer stands just 7-5/8 inches high, so it tucks away easily on any countertop. Made of satin-finish stainless steel with a black-band accent, it's sleek as well as utilitarian. --Fred Brack ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars crap - useless crap

1-0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money
I have owned a Misto for a while and, as others have, I noticed the way the quality of the spray deteriorated over time so that you would only get a stream of oil, instead of a mist. Well, this morning, my Misto exploded while I was using it to make pancakes (periodically spraying the pan during the process). Luckily, no one was hurt, but there is a dent in my kitchen ceiling where the top hit it, upon being expelled from the base with great force. I would estimate the BANG that accompanied the explosion was 85-90 decibels. I will definitely not buy another Misto based on today's explosion, but even before this, I was rather ho-hum about the product anyway. My advice: save your money.

The reason I am giving this product a 4 out of 5 is because it does what I want. I am not looking for it to froth milk but to mix my protein drinks. It works like a charm and I never have lumps in my protein drink.

If you want to froth milk get something else. If you want to mix a powder in liquid use this.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
I bought this trying to find a cheap way to froth milk.No matter what I tried (hot, cold, low-fat, half & half) it never made anything close to froth.I've had better luck just using a small shaker. If you use a shaker with a capacity about double the amount of milk you put in, and shake for about 30 seconds, you will get results as good as any manual or electric frother.I ordered a Hamilton Beach espresso maker based on good reviews and low price, and I am looking forward to real steam generated froth.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clean and effective
This grinder is the cleanest one I've used.My only complaint was that I couldn't get me coffee fine enough for my espresso maker. That was easy to solve.I unscrewed the top, and there was a little plastic stop that kept me from adjusting the grind even finer.I filed that down within 30 seconds, and now I have unlimited adjustment to my grind! Now it's a wonderful product!

Editorial Review

Who knows more about tea than the British? When the British Tea Council asked Bodum to develop a new way of brewing tea, the result was this unique press that's almost as much fun to look at as it is to use. Simply fill the strainer with tea leaves and add boiling water--a slow process, but well worth the time. (You could also use tea bags, but why would you want to?) The clear jug lets you see the tea as it's steeping, allowing you to customize its strength to your taste. When the tea is strong enough, slowly depress the plunger to stop the brewing. You won't have any tea leaves to read at the bottom of your cup, but there's no mess and no need to remove the strainer before you pour. But be forewarned: the Bodum press doesn't retain heat quite as well as a traditional teapot, so you might want to use a tea cozy if you're not drinking the whole pot in one sitting. It's a shame to cover up such a beautiful design, but that's the way the tea leaf tumbles. --Mary Park ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Teapress OK but perfectible
Just got my 1 litre teapress. Did not come with a pad like all Bodum coffee presses; that's disappointing, and sorely missed. I don't find the user-friendliness quite optimal... The press is okay, sort of, but I would just as well like to have the option of another cover to go and serve the tea without that whole column apparatus flip-flopping around the pot's opening, into which the tea press does not fit snugly. Cleaning it is also somewhat of a clumsy affair. I have used loose herbal concoctions and not had the press's holes clog up so far, as a previous reviewer alluded to, but I'll be trying finely cut Russian Kousmichoff tea soon, and will keep my fingers crossed. Finally, while the coffee presses have metal filters and spring-loaded O-rings, the tea press has a silicone O-ring seal and I have my doubts as to its longevity. Voilà! Bonne chance...

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice modern look but difficult to clean after using
I really like the appearance of this Bodum teapot, and the ability to see the brewing in progress.

That's a plus when using loose tea, but I found that the little leaves got caught in the holes of the steeping insert. Removing them took quite a bit of extra time and attention to detail. Plunging or not plunging made no difference to the problem as the leaves seem to get stuck during the steeping process as the water slowly circulates.

I am surprised I am the only one to have mentioned this drawback to date, but perhaps others are not using bulk leaf teas. I suppose using tea bags will solve the problem.

This item is now retired from daily use and will be sure to be offered for a dollar at my Spring yard sale. In the end, I found that a Chatsford teapot with plastic mesh filter insert is the best on the market. Finding a Chatsford requires the patience of a Sherlock Holmes. I do wish Amazon would carry them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product.
Pair this 6-cup beauty with a mug warmer and you have tea for an afternoon/evening of reading or computer work. Well designed, practical, it works! Buy this! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Often homemade pizza never tastes the same as a pie from your local pizzeria. However, this baking stone is made of the same firebrick material that lines kilns and blast furnaces and duplicates the results of old stone ovens to produce superior-quality and crispy pizza crust at home with all of your favorite fixings on top. The stone heats evenly and retains heat well so pizzas stay warm for a while after they come out of the oven. The material also withstands thermal shock so uncooked pizzas prepared earlier in the day move from the refrigerator to the oven without producing cracks in the stone. The baking stone has a 16-inch diameter, which is large enough to make a family-sized pie or can also bake rolls, biscuits, or circular-shaped breads. A flat surface area makes it easy to cut and remove slices right from the baking stone. Eight circular stone feet keep the pizza stone uniformly balanced on an oven rack so cheese or toppings won’t slide off. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavy, Well Built, Great Pizza Crust
I bought two of these, despite their relatively high price.I wanted to be able to cook two large pizzas at once for entertaining, so nobody waits slobbering while others eat their pizza.

I've made pizza twice and have not been disappointed. The stones are fairly soft and would scratch easily with sharp steel implements, so I'd avoid using them. The sone's porosity means it will stain easily.Spilled tomato sauce and cheese will bake right into the surface.I expect my pizza stones will quickly develop a patina. If you want clean looking pizza stones, the maintenance would be nearly impossible.Otherwise, maintenance is easy.Wash in hot water (no soap) and air dry.Use a belt sander or orbital sander if you ever want to renew the surface.

I'm surprised another reviewer received a broken pizza stone. The manufacturer packages these heavy and moderately fragile items very well with lots of corrugated cardboard. Both of mine arrived in perfect condition. They were shipped separately, like apparently everything from Amazon.

The crust is much better than the pizzas I was making in glass pie plates. It's crispy on the bottom and tender in the middle. The toppings are better too, because they are cooked at higher temperatures and have more of a roasted flavor. Before, pizzas cooked at 350 F for 25 minutes. The crust had good flavor but tended to steam under the vegetables and cooked very slowly. Now, I cook pizzas in ten minutes (!) and the crust and toppings are perfect. For entertaining, you could easily bake a pizza in the time it takes to assemble the toppings for the next pizza.

I just received the peel. For the uninitiated, a peel is the flat wooden pizza assembly station used to transfer the pizza to the stone in the oven.So far, I have made four pizzas without the peel and it's frustrating, and possibly dangerous working in a 500 F oven.Get the peel. It's not an option.

A tablespoon of corn meal on the peel and the stone will prevent the dough / crust from sticking.

The pizza stone is requiring a new learning curve, and I'm fairly sure it'll end up being a bit more effort than the pie plates I was using, but the much better pizza will be well worth the little extra effort. The peel and stone make it possible to have gourmet restaurant pizza at home. It's much easier than most people would think, and much less expensive than eating out. With no prior experience, expect 4-5 attempts to work out the tricks. After that, homemade pizza is fast and easy.

Pizza Dough:

1 1/8 cups of warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 cups bread flour

Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl in the order listed.Mix by hand until liquid is absorbed.Use a heavy duty mixer (Kitchenaid, etc.) and a dough hook to knead the dough for ten minutes (highly recommended), or knead by hand on a floured bread board until the dough has a silky sheen (the labor intensive method).Spray with olive oil in the mixing bowl, cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and let the dough rise until doubled in size. This takes 20-30 minutes in a 200 F oven (lowest setting) or on the stove top as the oven below is preheating.Makes two 14" pizza crusts.

1-0 out of 5 stars Barely gets one star
Last year, I bought a Pizza Stone from Pampered Chef.It was a rousing success with my family. For the 5 of us, however, one stone was not enough and I wanted a companion that would help provide two delicious pizzas at one time.Sadly, the product did not come through. My pizza stuck to the stone and had to be scraped off.I tried going against the directions and didn't preheat the stone the second time.It stuck even worse! The pizza didn't get fully done in the middle, while the Pampered Chef pizza was perfect both times.I will be throwing the stone away and ordering the higher priced alternative from Pampered Chef. You get what you pay for!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding for the price
13 knives for 40 bucks,WOW! I've been using mine for 6 months and find them dependable and easy to care for. No, they are not professional quality, but come on kids, they cost 40 dollars. I like the plastic handles, they look good and if they sit in a sink of water too long, or aren't cared for like they should be, it's o.k. 'cause they don't turn into trash. I bake my own bread and the bread knife is outstanding because of the eversharp edge. Well worth every cent if you need an inexpensive set of knives that will tolerate moderate abuse.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont fall for it
This product is a ripoff for the money. Henckels is abusing people's trust in the brand by foisting a lousy product like this.
Buy this product and Iam sure you will never look at a Henckels knife again in your life. (I bought a Wushtof instead)

Editorial Review

Bodum’s Brazil press utilizes unbreakable polycarbonate for its carafe, which makes this model an excellent choice for campers, students, or travelers who like to make fine coffee on the road. The press method is considered by many aficionados to be the best way to make a perfect cup of coffee, since no paper filter absorbs and removes the essence of the flavor. To make coffee with the press, remove the plunger/top ensemble, add coarse ground coffee to the glass carafe, add hot (but not boiling) water, stir with a spoon, and position the top and plunger in place. Allow the coffee to brew for about four minutes before slowing pushing down on the plunger. Pushing too hard or too quickly may cause hot liquid to squirt out. The domed lid features a slotted spout cover for pouring. To clean, simply scoop out the used grounds and pop the entire unit into the dishwasher. This 32-ounce model makes eight four-ounce dessert cups of coffee. Made in Denmark, the press measures 8-3/4 by 5-1/4 inches and comes with a plastic coffee measuring spoon. --Ann Bieri ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I just bought the Bodum Brazil 8 cup coffee press. This is WAYYYY too cool! The coffee came out great! I bought it to use at work because I am sick of the crap coffee here, so I thought, this might be easy to use at my desk and sure enough it was. I just used the hot water button on the water cooler, and brought in my own course ground coffee (Pete's Coffee) and followed the directions. It is awesome! I would recommend to anyone! I bought mine at Target for $14.99.

5-0 out of 5 stars You can microwave it!
I bought this item several months ago because I am clumsy and I didn't want to worry about breaking the carafe.I am so pleased with it.After heavy use I have had no problems, and I actually really like the way the screen is one piece. With the original press that has the coil and screen the grounds would always get stuck in between when I tried to clean it.The biggest advantage for me was when I discovered I could pour the water into the carafe and put it into the microwave. It is so easy, and eliminates the need for an extra measuring/microwavable cup!I just marked with a permanent marker on the carafe where the 12 oz. of water should come to and that was it.And of course the coffee is consistently wonderful.

5-0 out of 5 stars super press
This is the 5th french press I have owned.I use it every day at work,on the railroad,so the unbreakable is needed.I had a bonjour unbreakable that was complete garbage. The Bodum is cheaper and has lasted through various conditions,I use mine for yerba mate, which is harder to clean out,but the Bodum has lasted and lasted very impressed with this model. The plastic press is usually not as good as wire mesh and glass models, but if you need unbreakable, this is a very close 2nd option. ... From the outside, this looks like an average ice cream scoop. It's crafted from durable, polished nonstick aluminum, has a classic design, and fits comfortably in your hand. The secret ingredient, however, is so radical that Zeroll products have been displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City: The handle is filled with a permanent, safe defrosting fluid that responds to the warmth of a hand. Hence the scoop cuts into even the hardest ice cream--and the ice cream will slide right off. So, stop bending spoons and start enjoying your dessert! --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars best ice cream scoop till the finish comes off
I also have had the ice cream scoop for around five years and noticed the finish comes off on your hands and ice cream. It worked better than any other scoop but it worries me about the way it doesn't last.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shipping prices are ridiculous
$9.95 on shipping for this item.I wish I would have realized that before I purchased, but it was in a large order.Give me a break.I won't buy from them again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best
I have one of these ice cream scoops too (I have quite a collection, but I am a self-proclaimed icecreamaholic) and while I do like it, it's far from my favorite.I personally like the KitchenAid scooper much better.

This one is good too though, and does slightly melt the ice cream which helps in scooping.I run mine through the dishwasher all the time and never had an issue. The nonstick surface is also really nice, it makes the ice cream slide off the scoop easily in to the bowl. Also, the feel of the handle is nice, though the grip isn't as good as some other scoopers - mine is slightly slippery while my KitchenAid scooper has a much firmer grip!I still give it 5 stars, it does its job well! ... Editorial Review

KitchenAid's stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 250 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough; the 4-1/2-quart bowl can hold up to 8 cups of flour, which translates into as many as 192 sweet treats.

This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solid in construction and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist; untwisting them is a bit trickier because the attachment stems are short and can be hard to grasp, especially if they get the least bit greasy. The bowl itself locks tight to the base.

Standing 14 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off.

To complete the package, KitchenAid includes a spiral-bound guide with instructions, mixing tips, and 67 recipes, from crispy waffles to a caramel walnut banana torte. --Betsy Danheim ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Believe the hype
I have this unit. I dont use it a lot...but at least once or twice a week. It sure does a good job.
Cookies etc. I make pizza dough. Prefer one mix at a time..ie 1 loaf of bread or pizza dough for a 12" pizza. One trick for the rising dough on the hook...spray or oil the hook.
I have a disability and could notdo many of these mixing tasks without a good mixer. Todays price..April 6/05 with the bonus is excellent. Worth it as a backup.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most fabulous mixer ever...plus it looks cute too!
I love my mixer.I bought it five years ago after wanting one for about twenty years.I bought it at Christmas time and was inspired to make loads and loads of cookies which turned out beautifully and perfectly mixed. That baby could mix up a giant batch of gingerbread in what seemed like seconds! If you have ever mixed a gingerbread recipe by hand, you'll know why I'm so excited about it!It incorporated five cups of flour with no effort.WOW!Now, I know that one lady who reviewed this mixer before gave it only two stars for the motor and the warranty, but possibly she got a lemon.I don't use mine for bread very often, because I was brought up baking bread and kneading the dough by hand, but perhaps if it is used every day, the motor would wear a tad.I know that I've always been happy with mine and I use it often.I love the way it looks on the counter and it's extremely easy to clean. The bowl, dough hook and paddle are all dishwasher safe. The only hand wash item is the wisk, which is no big deal. The body with the motor wipes clean in a snap and it's always easy to whip together a recipe in no time.I love it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new stand mixer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the hype
Granted, I am not a professional cook (I only cook for my family and for the occasional guests), and there are many glowing reviews of this appliance, but I would not buy this KitchenAid mixer again.

1) It is very heavy. That's good for not bouncing around on the counter, but I have to move mine from the pantry to the counter, and it is extremely heavy.2) I do not think that it mixes ingredients well.I always have to scrape the sides and get under the dough because there is often unmixed flour at the bottom.3)My kids (5 and 7 years) like my old-fashioned MixMaster because they can see through the clear bowl and enjoy watching the ingredients mix.The KitchenAid has a metal bowl that is obviously not see-through and has to be hand washed.4)The beaters must be hand washed.5) Reaching into the bowl is a task, unless you don't mind being covered in batter. The bowl is narrower at the top, so there is not much room to get a spatula between the sides of the bowl and the beater.6) Adding ingredients while the mixer is going is also a pain because of the narrow shape of the bowl. 7) You can get a splash-guard sort of plastic device through which to pour wet or dry ingredients. But why should I need a device for a mixer? There should be room enough to pour ingredients directly in.Also, then I have to store these plastic pieces, and they do not fit into the mixer.

My mother says she likes making bread with her KitchenAid which I haven't tried. But for making cookies, cakes, mashed potatoes, etc., I would not recommend the KitchenAid.

It blows my mind that so many people have bought into this mixer with its many inconveniences.I just pulled out the KitchenAid to give it one more try making cookies and was again disappointed.Next time, I'll stick to my cheap old MixMaster.Besides, my 2 girls each get to enjoy a beater a-piece with that one! ... Ideal for dinner parties of two or four, this breadmaker produces aromatic, piping hot fresh bread in 45 minutes. Compact enough to easily fit on a countertop (or table!), the appliance produces loaves that are 3-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches and 4-1/2 inches tall, just the right size for intimate dinner parties. The oval bread pan gives the loaves a distinctive shape and a little dimple. Operation is as easy as putting the dough into the breadmaker and pressing two buttons, and several recipes are included, such as sunflower oat wheat, Swiss-jalapeño, and feta cheese--and nutritional information for each recipe is also included. The directions are extensive, complete with a troubleshooting guide. The breadmaker's viewing window is especially nice, and lets you watch your bread take shape. 5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC MACHINE
I have used bread machines for 15 years. My favorite thing about them:The ease of making fresh bread (my favorite food) and how it tasted freshly made; and the smell when it is baking. My least favorite things: the often large and oddly shaped loaves, and how it tasted a couple of days later.

Until I bought this machine, my favorite machine bread was "the 58 minute loaf" that my present machine makes.I love the quickness and the lovely somewhat yeasty taste.

So as you can imagine, the Just For Dinner Breadmaker is a combination of all of my favorite bread machine aspects. It is fun, it is quick, it is delicious, it is eaten in two days, then I get to try a new recipe.

I ordered my machine on Saturday, May 14th and opted for the free (slower) shipping. My machine arrived at 7PM on May 19th.At 8PM I had my first loaf, perfectly shaped and browned, wheat bread cooling on the rack.My husband and I ate almost the entire loaf, it was so good. The next morning I made the buttermilk wheat loaf.It was JUST as perfect.

I highly recommend this excellent machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Go ahead, experiment!
I have been using my little guy at least a couple of times a week for months and have NEVER made a bad loaf of bread. That said, I stopped using the recipe book after the first two loaves.I use the generic formula of flour, liquid, fat, sweet, salt and yeast as a springboard for the imagination.I have used many varieties and combinations of whole grain flours whithout cutting them with white flour. I have added cooked whole grains and raw or cooked seeds, nuts, and fruit.I don't bother with milk powder; instead I use milk, sour milk, buttermilk, soy milk, or the whey from yogurt as the liquid. For the fat I have used a variety of vegetable oils, melted butter, and melted shortening.I have succesfully used a teaspoon of sugar instead of a tablespoon. I have substituted brown sugar, honey, molassas, even a fruit reduction for the sweetener.

I add all of the wet/moist ingredients together in a bowl, microwave to reach the recommended temperature, then transfer to bread machine insert. Then I combine all of the dry ingredients and microwave for a few seconds to take take the chill off as I store my grainy things in the freezer.Dry on top of wet, jiggle it down level, and into the machine.Use that opportunity at the initiation of the continuous mixing cycle to check on how the ingredients are coming together and adjust the wet/dry ratio accordingly.

One reviewer complained that you can't make rolls or buns; not so!Preheat your oven when you start the machine. (I get it to ~400 degrees F.)When it beeps that it is ready to begin the bake cycle, turn the bread machine off, dump the dough out onto a floured or oiled surface, make whatever shape you want and pop it into the oven. (I use a baking stone.)I have made dinner rolls, sandwich rolls, flat bread, bread sticks, even crackers!I am going to experiment with bagels next.

Use your common sense. If you have ingredients with inherent moistness, fat, sweetness or saltiness, cut your liquid, fat, sweetener or salt. The more you play, the better you will get at making bread products customized exactly to your personal tastes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Perfect
I wanted a small-scale machine that would make a modest size bread of good quality. This machine totally fits the bill.Foolproof (I never used a bread machine before at all), quick, quiet.I have nothing I would want to be different about this item.I'd highly recommend it for singles and couples who want to make high-quality bread at home. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Well bowl me over!
Hello there! I'm Frank, and I'll be filling in for Zaggy while he watches the big dance at his favorite pizza joint! Speaking of which: I decided to celebrate the Super Bowl by reviewing a truly *SUPER* bowl! Ha ha, a super bowl for the Super Bowl, get it? I just made a funny...

Anyway, I remember my dad using somethin' like this on me back in the day as a hair-cutting aid... only smaller. And without those measuring mark things. And when I say "back in the day", I mean "about two weeks ago". Speaking of measuring marks, I love using them to see how far I can stick my head into this here bowl and find out how long it is (about seven quarts last I checked)! This thing's also highly effective as an alien transmission-deflecting helmet! But I don't walk around too much when I wear it, because I have a really hard time seeing out of it, and bump into walls a lot. And it's not so fun to have on when someone's hitting it with a metal implement. And I should know, because my dad would clang me every time the Red Sox scored a layup in the Super Bowl! Boy, I sure hope the Flyers can cover the spread...

Oh yeah-- you can also use this to mix stuff together for baking. In fact, one of my teenage cousins used it several hours ago to bake brownies for the Super Bowl party. He made them out of some ready-made cake mix, milk, an egg, and... well, I THINK it was oregano, but I couldn't tell for certain. Although that last ingredient didn't seem all that appetizing, I decided to give his brownies a shot. Boy were they good-- addictive, even! After choking down a few of cuz's primo brownies, I had a bag of potato chips, some Fritos, two extra large pizzas, another bag of potato chips, a can of bean dip, three jars of those pickled pigs' feet my mom canned last year that I swore I'd never eat on a bet, and two gallons of Bud Light. And after I had that light snack, I-well, I won't bore you with the details. Besides, I think it's time for me to say...

...Byee

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS CROCK ROCKS!
I just received this crock as a birthday gift as I have never owned one before. I like the design and the display/control panel, very easy to use. The first meal I cooked was a whole 5lb chicken. I filled it to the top with with all my ingredience, set the crock to LOW for 10 hours and walked away. I came back about 9 1/2 hours later and the chicken and most of the potatoes were submerged in the natual jucies, it was an awesome site. I grabbed a fork to check the chicken and when I stuck it in..... the whole chicken just fell apart. Right off the bone and all, it was great, so tender and moist. I used a slotted spoon to transfer the potatoes, green beans, chicken meat to a serving dish and that was it!!! I took some of the juice to use as a herbal base for more intense flavoring if needed. At the bottom of the crock all I could see was a pile of bare chicken bones, cleanup was a breeze!!! Like I said, THIS CROCK ROCKS!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Is everyone crazy? this thing is great!
The first time I used it worked flawlessly with a 5lb chuck roast cooked 10 hrs nothing burnt it was perfect! now it did overflow a bit but i added a bit too much water which you pretty much dont have to add the meat cooks in its own juices. Also people complained of smoke and smell if you read the book that came with it that is normal for the first couple of uses I highly recommend this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money!
I have wasted my money buying this crockpot.I have owned a Rival crockpot previously and liked it.
This one cooks far too hot and the ceramic insert also stains badly.
I will be buying a new crockpot but it probably won't be a Rival.
Don't waste your money on this one. ... Perfect for potlucks and picnics, this set makes it possible to transport and serve baked ziti or apple crisp. First, cook your dish in the set's 7-by-11-inch glass baker. Then, when it's hot from the oven, cover it with the snap-on plastic lid. The covered baker then goes into the set's bright red insulated carry bag, along with utensils and napkins. Two carrying straps on the bag ensure that the baker stays level. Heat the included hot pack in a microwave oven and slip it into a pocket in the bag's top to keep the food hot until serving time. You can also substitute a frozen cold pack for the hot pack so you can transport fruit salad or any chilled food. The baker is made of Pyrex, a special glass that withstands the shock of going from hot to cold, or vice versa, without breaking. It's nonreactive (useful for acidic marinades) as well as stain- and odor-proof, and comes with a two-year warranty against breakage from oven heat. --Fred Brack ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great to take to pot lucks!
I like being able to pack either a cold or hot dish to a pot luck dinner, having it arrive close to the temperature in which it's meant to be. My Pyrex 5-piece Portable allows me to conveniently do just that. The lid is easy to attach to the glass dish; removal is just as simple. It is attractive and large enough to help feed a good-sized group. ... Editorial Review

Tackle tough batters with this set of three oversized silicone spatulas. Silicone is a soft, pliable material that smoothly removes food from the sides of bowls. Yet its amazing properties include not only strength but heat resistance to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. That means the spatulas can be used to scoop portions of casseroles hot out of the oven, or to stir-fry a meal or mix a sauce in nonstick pans right on the stovetop. Strong Lexan handles won't break on that double batch of oatmeal cookie dough, and each features a guard that allows the handle to rest on the bowl without slipping into it. Dishwasher-safe, the set includes a 13-3/4-inch jumbo spatula, 13-inch spoon spatula, and 11-1/2-inch narrow spatula.--Ann Bieri ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful!
This set is very useful. The smallest one was still a little too big for some uses, so for me, I purchased a mini Le Creuset spatula, also on Amazon. The midde spatula with the scope is the most useful of the set. I have not had the problem with stuff stuck in between the handle and the head. I toss them in the dishwasher and it seems to be fine for now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just okay for the price
As other reviewers have mentioned, these spatulas get "gunk" in the cracks where the handles connect and they are not comfortable to hold for long.

3-0 out of 5 stars missing spatula
I'm sure my sister will enjoy these but both of us were expecting to receive all three spatulas advertised as the set, not just two.The medium sized one, probably the most often used, was missing from the package with no replacements available.A disappointment! ... Read more
