OXO Good Grips 32480 Salad Spinner Average Customer Review: Kitchen list price: $35.00 -- our price: $24.95 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Washing and drying leafy vegetables has never been simpler or more fun than with this gadget. One hand is all you need to press the soft, cushioned knob to start the spinning; when the built-in brake is applied and the job is done, the basket and bowl can be taken apart and used separately. The knob locks down for easy storage, and the spinner is dishwasher-safe. Use this tool with lettuce, raw spinach, broad-leafed herbs, and greens--they end up clean and oh-so-dry, and the drier your leaves, the better salad dressings will adhere and the less mushy your sandwich bread will become. Puddles at the bottom of your salad bowl disappear... Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro ... Hoffritz Aluminum Garlic Press Average Customer Review: Kitchen list price: $19.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review If your recipe calls for crushed garlic and you dislike handling garlic barehanded, this garlic press will enable you to process "the stinking rose" easily and efficiently. To use, simply place one large clove or several smaller cloves--peeled or unpeeled--in the teardrop-shaped basket and squeeze the handles together. The specialized cleaning tool snaps into the inside of one handle, making it easy to keep track of, and the whole tool can then be tossed into the dishwasher. The distinctive modern styling of the Platinum Series line allows you to coordinate your kitchen accessories, and a large hanging loop allows easy storage. --Jennifer Harris ... The third or fourth time I washed it in my dishwasher, the steel pin that goes through the hinge and holds the whole thing together fell out!Luckily, the pin was not inhaled into the dishwasher's mechanism and I was able to recover it.I hammered it back into place (its a friction fit) and it has behaved itself ever since, but I check it now every time I wash it. Also, every time I press a clove of garlic, quite a bit of it squeezes up around the plunger rather than down through the sieve. This is the first and only garlic press I've ever owned, so I don't know if they all do this, and it certainly isn't a big problem, but it bears mentioning. On the positive side, I agree with the other reviewers. It does a nice job, is hefty and substantial, and is easy to clean. But keep an eye on that pin!

Microplane Stainless Steel Zester Average Customer Review: Kitchen list price: $9.95 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review For uniform lemon rind shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The totally flat grating surface makes it easy to move the fruit across the blades, while the rounded edges allow you to set this across the top of a bowl and grate directly into it. Ginger and all citrus fruits worked beautifully with this zester, and the tiny size of individual pieces means you won't need to do any additional chopping. --Jill Lightner ... It works effortlessly and is therefore very easy to hold.Just grip the sides, rub it over the fruit, and the zest practically falls off.The best thing is that it removes only zest, 100% of the pulp is left behind.Unbelievable! The Microplane makes very fine zest that disappears into your recipe, so there is no chopping up zest-like strings as with my old Henckels zester (which is now just a bad memory).

Cuisipro Stainless-Steel Potato Ricer Average Customer Review: Kitchen list price: $27.99 -- our price: $19.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review If you've never experienced a potato ricer, it's not too late to make up for lost time. This simple implement doesn't have a digital clock, doesn't blink when it's ready, and doesn't have a tiny computer chip imbedded in it to do all the work. It takes a bit of pressing and squeezing, but the light and airy potatoes that result will be both memorable and worth the work. Place boiled potatoes in the bowl of the ricer, set it across a saucepan (using the ridge on the head of the bowl), and press the potatoes through the disk--that's it. Stir in a bit of butter and cream, dust with paprika, and enjoy. And be sure to try the ricer with other root vegetables, such as carrots, yams, and turnips. --C. Whitney-Ward ... Oneida Waiter's Corkscrew Average Customer Review: Kitchen list price: $12.00 -- our price: $9.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review This handsome, hand-polished stainless-steel waiter's corkscrew is a compact, all-in-one tool for home entertaining that fits easily into a pocket. Folded, it measures a little more than 4 inches long, but it's plenty big and sturdy enough to pop wine corks and de-cap bottles. Unlike most wing-style corkscrews, this one also has a folding foil-cutter blade for prepping the bottle before opening. On the flip side, getting the hang of the lever action for pulling corks does take a little practice, but the result has its own rewards. Salute! --Dale Steinke ... Read more Features Reviews (5)
This was my mindset as I tried the Oneida Waiter's Corkscrew. I'm pleased with the sturdiness. The screw seems to be well fabricated and is distinctly heavier gauge than I've used before. You feel the screw turn into the cork. I'm also pleased with the other aspects of design. It fits in the hand. The visuals are clean and simple. It does fine on bottlecaps. The only thing I would ask for would be a bit more length in the handle. One encounters the occasional tough cork. Having the extra bit of leverage can really come in handy. Meanwhile I'll be keeping this one.
