Eureka 570B Cordless Boss Upright Vacuum
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Kitchen
    list price: $69.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Weighing in at only 7.6 pounds, this standard-sized but lightweight vacuum is ideal for carrying to pickups either up- or downstairs. The rechargeable vac also has a high-powered 12-volt battery that can handle an entire 1,500-square-foot apartment (or 15 minutes of vacuuming) on a single charge. The telescoping handle has a comfortable grip and extends the unit to an almost horizontal position (measuring 6 inches tall) for cleaning under furniture and for storing. The Boss’s two-motor system uses a revolving brush roll for carpet cleaning and another setting for wood floors that you can control with the flip of a switch. Rather than using bags, the Boss Upright collects debris in a large, transparent dust cup that is easy to empty. Other features of this stick vac include a stair-cleaning handle and a wrap-around furniture guard on the head. Eureka provides a 1-year limited warranty on the Boss Upright vacuum. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Cat's Meow!
I have never loved a house cleaning item of any kind but I can't say that any longer. This little unit has become my new best friend!

We live in the country and between my husband and our border collie I don't know who tracks in more... it's a close tie. I was sweeping the floor daily with a broom but I wasn't keeping up until now.

This is the "greatest" little vacuum. I love that it doesn't have a cord and it's so fast and easy to use. I wouldn't recommend it for the main vacuum of the house but for quick pick up's and for hard floors you can't beat it.

I have to work a little to get all the dog hair out of the filter when I empty it but I haven't had a vacuum yet that I didn't have to work on removing the hair in some way.

If something happened to this one would I buy another ... most definetly. It is worth every cent that I paid for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this thing, I have now bought 3 of them.
I love this little vacuum. When I bought it due to a sale, I thought it would be a neat item for my Mom and grandmother but hated to buy them one until I knew it was a good thing.Well it is a great thing, and availability can be an issue at times. If you are planning on more than one and they are available now, buy it now.

It is simple to assemble.Snap on the handle and slip in the battery plug it in and voilayou are in business. That is after you charge it a day or so.

The cup to empty it clicks off easily and pouring out the dirt and cleaning off the filter simple as can be.The filter cannot be installed backwards, but you should pay attention how to reinsert it, so you don't have to fiddle with it.If you have used other bagless vacuums this can be chore on some.

This little machine will have sufficient enough charge to do 3-4 rooms for a quick pass. Amazing how well it does.

Due to its flexibility due to no cord you will grab it more often and your house will be cleaner for it.Also on stairs it is wonderful. The hand slides in with the push of a button and is very light to use.

The only improvement would be if it had a hose attachment. That would come in handy.

Does it do as good a big vacuum No, but a lot better than you would think.

Only one warning, if you vacumm a lot of dog hair, there is a possibility it will jam in the back where the vacuum bends. There is a little door here to open and unjam.Works great, once you know it is there.

1-0 out of 5 stars Per company, not supposed to be your main vaccuum
Vaccuum runs for only 20 minutes maximum.Have no rugs, only tile.Called Eureka and the customer rep. said it was never intended to be a main vaccuum, that lightweight in the ads mean not a heavy duty vac - and that I can get a spare battery for $47.00.Told her I had paid that for the vac on Amazon.com - she said it was unfortunate that it doesn't say so in their ads. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Why not ZCC-10?
The new model that came out in March 2005 as another poster wrote is the ZCC-10.I am ready to buy this rice cooker, but I want the new model, not the one that is being replaced.I did a search on Amazon and the new model is not listed. As soon as the new model is listed on Amazon I will purchase it.

This item is not worth the money. It takes between 80 and 120 minutes to cook brown rice.My $49.00 Sunbeam steamer that I purchased 5 years ago cooks rice much better than the Zojirushi.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes great rice
This little cooker is the perfect cooking-for-two size.I have had it for several weeks now and have found it to be reliable in producing excellent rice. Am just starting to experiment with using broth, dried mushrooms, etc.My husband's only complaint is that it DOESN'T burn the rice on the bottom like our old (extremely cheap) cooker - he reallly liked that burned part apparently!

This is an expensive cooker but I like it.It seems very well made. The pan is as non-stick as I have ever seen.

I like the little song that it plays when you press the "cook" button too! ... Read more

The Little Pro Plus is an absolutely necessary all-in-one kitchen tool. It chops, dices, shreds, grates, purées, and even kneads dough. Add the super citrus juicer and one of the three juicing cones and there's an automatic at-home juice bar. The base measures only 6 by 8-1/2 inches, so it fits cozily on the counter and is easy to store. Included is a comprehensive booklet detailing the many different ways of using the Little Pro Plus and dozens of recipes (try a homemade hummus). It even has pictures of how to assemble and use for those of us who are visual learners. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works Very Well for the Price I Paid for
Juicer makes only citrus juice, but I was hoping that it would make carrot juice. That wasn't the case. I wish it was written "Food Processor and Cistus Juicer" instead of "Food Processor and Juicer." Other than that, I am very happy wiht the product.

I appreciate the safety feature that does not allow users to turn the switch on without everything appropreately installed. The blade is very sharp and now I feel safe to use the processor even though I can often be absent-minded while I cook. I was worried about injuring myself as I do stupid things, but this processor is safe to use. You cannot operate without all the cover installed completely because it is designed that way.

I was surprised to find how easy cleaning was. I suppose if you put oil or animal product, cleaning can require more detargent and scrabbing, but since I use it only with vegetables and nuts, I don't even have to use detargent. I rinse the parts with a dish washing brush and all the parts gets clean quite easily. I think the key is not to leave them darty and wash them right after you use them.

I have not used it long enough to tell you how long it lasts, but I use it almost every day. Food processor is a must-have if you love cooking. It also helps when you have dental problems that require soft food.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not powerful, but still beats doing itby hand
We have a kosher kitchen and I use this little processor for dairy: grating small quantities of parmesan cheese and vegetables; making tuna salad. It serves its purpose, but has something of a toy-like quality.

These powerful 8-inch kitchen shears are Henckels' premier model. They're balanced in the hand for a comfortable grip and are large enough to accommodate even thick fingers. Blades curve inward so the cutting action is smooth and exact. A steel-tooth inset in the handle opens bottle and other screw caps. I have had these shears for over 10 years - they have withstood everything.I put them in the dishwasher regularly without any problems. They are as sharp as the day I bought them. I have had other less expensive shears and scissors during the same time - they just don't stand up to the use/abuse that these do.

These are wonderful shears. I would never put ANY of my good knives in the dishwasher - including these shears. Handwashing is always recommended for good quality knives because it helps preseve the edge of the blade. (No matter WHAT brand they are!)

    Bodum Assam 2-Cup Tea Press

    Editorial Review

Who knows more about tea than the British? When the British Tea Council asked Bodum to develop a new way of brewing tea, the result was this unique press that's almost as much fun to look at as it is to use. Simply fill the strainer with tea leaves and add boiling water--a slow process, but well worth the time. (You could also use tea bags, but why would you want to?) The clear jug lets you see the tea as it's steeping, allowing you to customize its strength to your taste. When the tea is strong enough, slowly depress the plunger to stop the brewing. You won't have any tea leaves to read at the bottom of your cup, but there's no mess and no need to remove the strainer before you pour. But be forewarned: the Bodum press doesn't retain heat quite as well as a traditional teapot, so you might want to use a tea cozy if you're not drinking the whole pot in one sitting. It's a shame to cover up such a beautiful design, but that's the way the tea leaf tumbles. --Mary Park ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's just so damn cute.
Too bad it's not very well-designed or constructed. The plunger likes to fall as other reviewers have said, and to avoid this I have to put the whole plunger mechanism in at an angle (although sometimes if I am very careful I can get it to float above the water level). I was disappointed to find out that the plunger doesn't "squish" the tea to squeeze the water out of the leaves; it just puts the tea in a special place where it can't mingle with the rest of the water. Finally, it pours badly. I dont' know why because it has what looks like a fine spout, but it dribbles a little bit, even if you don't fill it above the "approximately 1.6 inches from the lip" as recommended.

But all of this doesn't matter becuase it does work, and it's just so cute that I couldn't resist it. 4 stars anyway. Just be sure you're buying it for the right reason (because it's cute, not because it's functional).

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for loose tea and herbals
I keep this pot at my desk at work. It's size is perfect and the brewing insert leaves plenty of room for the tea leaves to unfurl naturaly.I have completely abandoned the plunger.I don't even use it anymore.I simply place my tea in the plastic insert, and pull it out when the tea is done brewing (careful to drain the excess tea by tipping to the side) and set it on a napkin or paper towel.

It's great for filling up right from the hot spigot on the water cooler. Also, if I'm drinking green tea or an herbal, I keep the plastic tea holder to the side and reuse for a second or third pot.

2-0 out of 5 stars Plunger Problems
I want so much to love this item.Received it as a gift.My only complaint is what others have mentioned about the sinking plunger.Even the plastic seal wont prevent it from sinking. The steam from the hot water makes it worse.I've tried drying the seal with a towel, to give it more grab (something I really shouldn't have to do) and it still sinks. My solution (as mentioned by another reviewer) is to put the plunger/cap in at a slight angle.Ridiculous.All in all the plunger assembly is very slipshod.

And as for the capacity, I have pretty large mugs, so for me one brewing equals one serving. But that's just me.Still, I try to enjoy the press as much as possible. ... Read more

Circulon Classic Nonstick 12-Quart Covered Stockpot
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Kitchen
    list price: $163.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

With raised, concentric grooves on its bottom that provide extra protection for the durable DuPont Autograph nonstick coating, this 12-quart stockpot readily releases food and cleans easily over extended use. The pot has many uses, including simmering stocks and soups, poaching a chicken, and cooking a family-size batch of chili. Its "Hi-Low" system of grooves creates narrow ridges to take utensil abuse, leaving low, wider grooves unscathed to release food. The exterior is charcoal-gray, hard-anodized aluminum for easy cleaning and harder-than-steel durability. Synthetic handles stay cool on the stovetop and are oven-safe to 350 degrees F. The domed lid is 18/10 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. This pot is heavy enough to conduct evenly yet light enough to handle easily, and it carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Circulon Classic 12 QT covered stockpot
Recently purchased the Circulon Classic 12 qt. covered stockpot.
After having purchased a wide variety of stockpots, I find this particular one a great buy.I mainly purchased this pot to cook my meatball/crab sauce.I usually cook a lot at one time, so I needed a large pot with a lid so that the ingredientswould not boil over the top. I find the shape of the pot along with the high dome lid exceptional.I also have to mention that I cook on a glass top electric range. This pot stays put.

It does not slide all over the place like my other pots do.I like it so much I am ordering the 12qt pot for my son who also loves to cook. The price of the stock pot was well within my budget.Fantastic buy.I would recommend this pot to everyone.

This could definately be a bit cheaper. It's not a dutch oven, so you can't put it in the oven - for stovetop use only.So for that, it works perfectly. It has a good volume so you can make large quantities of pasta or make soups and broths. It's extremely easy to clean and the lid fits nicely. The list price is absurd and 40 is even a little high.Either drop the price a bit more, or make it ovensafe. ... Pros:
    + It works.
    + Your hands don't smell like grandma's
    + No more unintentional crushing
    + No dangerous knife-slapping

    Cons:
    - After about 4 large cloves, the 'garlic paper' sticks to the inside.(You can shake it out and keep going.)
    - Not as sexy as slapping a big chef's knife
    - Single-purpose gadget

5-0 out of 5 stars Pricey but worth it
Yes, the price is kind of steep considering what this item probably costs the manufacturer but hey...isn't that what capitalism is all about -- figuring out how to inexpensively produce something that's incredibly useful? And that's exactly what the garlic peeler is.We love cooking with garlic, but neither one of us ever got the "whack with a knife" trick to really work.Consequently, peeling garlic was a tedious, time-consuming, and messy chore. No more.Pop the clove into the tube, roll the tube a few times across the counter and voila! The garlic, she is peeled.Having to rinse out the tube after every few peelings is nowhere near as time-consuming as it was to peel garlic the old-fashioned way. This is one of those terrific gift items for anyone who even occasionally cooks with garlic. They'd never make the purchase themselves, but once they have this, they will wonder how they got along without it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars OXO vs Zyliss Susi Deluxe
These two garlic presses seem to be the most popular on Amazon right now, and since I've used both, here's my two cents.

OXO: this is a much easier press to use, requiring far less hand strength. It's also the easiest to clean (just flip it backwards and the red plastic head cleans itself).Mine has done just fine in the dishwasher top rack. However, it can't handle unpeeled cloves, and does have a tendency to break at the hinge every 2 years or so (I used it almost every night). It also leaves slightly more unused garlic residue inside.

Zyliss Susi Deluxe: I bought this after breaking my third OXO.It requires substantially more hand strength to use.It can press unpeeled cloves, but you have to squeeze quite hard to do this.It is slightly harder to clean than the OXO (use an included attachment), but still much easier than other garlic presses. This one leaves practically no unused garlic residue inside.I've only had it 4 months, so I can't comment on durability yet.

Overall, I'd get the OXO if you have arthritis or if your hands aren't strong, or if ease of use and cleaning are very important to you; just plan on replacing it every couple of years if you use garlic every night.I'd get the Zyliss if you have strong hands and don't want to peel the garlic cloves, or if the breakage rate (or leaving behind a tiny quantity of garlic) bothers you.I'll probably stick with the Zyliss, but I'd buy my mom the OXO (and replacements).

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of money
the hinges broke after I pressed to crush the garlic. To the trash it goes. Now I use a small food processor to crush my garlic its easier and can crush a lot at one time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
Rubber handle grips will first accumulate water and later they will start comming off. It's so annoying that you will have to throw them away. At the end the hindge will brake and you will regret that you have spent your dollars on it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice seafood set.
This is a very nice seafood set. The OXO brand is always something you can rely on. The only complaint I have about this set is that the cracker is a little bit on the heavy and clunky side.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for Cappuccino
If someone I know is just starting out or is undecided about a choice for a formal china pattern, I might recommend BIA Cordon Bleu. It is an inexpensive open stock white porcelain pattern, which could be used as extras for entertaining later on.

So if you are ordering BIA dinnerware, I would recommend buying a set of dinner plates, a set of salad plates, and a set of these cups and saucers, all of which come in service for four. You might also like to add 12-Inch platters for entrées or entrée salads. If you add a set of soup/cereal bowls, then you have a twenty-piece set for four, or 4 five-piece place settings.

You might want to mix-and-match the white porcelain dinnerware with Willow Blue open-stock dinnerware. These classic white cups and saucers would be perfect for cappuccino, too. ... Read more
